Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Beginning of a Big Weekend

The big four square off tomorrow, so today feels a bit like the calm before the storm. Citeh and Bolton kick off on FSC in a moment, with Fulham vs. Newcastle to follow. As always, I'll have one eye firmly planted on Division One, where Leeds travel to Walsall.

If you're not doing the Christmas shopping, do join me...

Did Christian Miles just call Citeh vs. Bolton the true Manchester derby. A bit cheeky for this early in the morning. What say you, Dave?

I am here Robert.
You can keep your Manc derby comments to yourself.
There is only ONE real Manchester team
THEY WEAR RED!!!

Citeh with an early goal.
Terrible defending!!

What were you up to 17 years ago RIGHT NOW?!!!!

10:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Morning, Dave. So, an early goal in the derby match. Comical defending there from Gardner, Niemi and Mayte and Bianchi only had to stick a foot out to score.

10:11 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, bloody hell, I've missed your anniversary again, haven't I? I'm a terrible friend.

Seventeen years, eh? Time flies. We're at ten this next summer.

Wigan have scored against Blackburn. Two United old boys against each other. Another United old boy doing well. Sunderland have scored against Villa. Brum are beating another United old boy Coppell

10:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I was just Skyping you because your icon popped up and I wanted a prediction for tomorrow's matches. I'm thinking two draws.

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That doesn't help us - come on, Northhants!

10:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, our attendances have been smashing this year and there's been good feeling about the club. Did you hear that the Bremner statue out in front of the ground was vandalized last weekend by visiting fans? Sacrilege!

10:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Why aren't FSC showing Pompey vs. Spurs - a much better game on paper than this one!

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

As predicted, Pompey and Citeh have leapfrogged Liverpool, pushing them down to sixth, where they could be at the end of the weekend if they lose at Anfield to United. Rafa's job could be on the line again.

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Leeds dominating in their match vs. Walsall. It's only a matter of time, methinks.

10:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sorry, I had to go shoot some baskets with Matt in his bedroom. Tom told me Anelka missed a sitter

10:29 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You haven't missed much in this match. Swansea have taken the lead over Southend and claim top spot in Division One again. Remember those Swansea lads?

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree, these big games always seem to end in a draw.
At the beginning of the season, I was able to listen to United on manutd.com but now I can't for some reason. I was wondering how I was going to listen to it. I then had a brainwave. I am going to call sister Debbie on Skype and have her tune in Five Live on her computer or radio and let me listen!!!

10:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, it seems that championships are won and lost on the road to places like Blackburn, Villa and Pompey.

10:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Four goals at Portman Road already - it's 3-1 Ipswich!

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Blackburn missed a penalty.

Didn't you guys go to some game at the Vetch Field? You took some trip but I didn't go

Goal for Bolton

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice mover from Bolton and good finish by Greg Louganis

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Spitty Diouf did benefit there from Micah Richards getting pulled well out of position. He had miles of space and turned it in well. 1-1. Not a defensive clinic here today, is it?

10:35 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

We didn't play at the Vetch, but we did take in a game there. We played on an ordinary pitch and held them fairly tight, something like 4-2.

Then they came to Lakenheath and shellacked us 25-0. I can still hear the ball fizzing by my leg on the way into the back of the net. Even their goalkeeper scored from a corner!

10:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Four goals shared at Portman Road already!!!

10:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wigan have scored a third against Blackburn

10:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Swansea may be winning but they are now down to ten men according to my skysports window

10:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Boro have scored against hapless Derby

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bolton with a second. This is a good match

10:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

2-1 Bolton! More hopeless defending from Citeh and Kevin Nolan pops up unmarked in the area to stab one home.

10:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Millwall score to tie it up against Oldham. The scorer is Simpson then Simpson gets sent off for a second bookable offence. Taking his shirt maybe? What a plonker!!!

10:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It is a good match although one that reinforces the stereotype of the Premiership as exciting but tactically naive. I don't expect the same thing tomorrow. Can you imagine Vidic sticking a toe out like Richards there.

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree, the lack of defending his helping the excitement

10:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What on earth is happening with Blackburn - Sparky won't be pleased!

10:46 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I hear that you're going to get slammed by a Nor'aster tomorrow - snow day on Monday for you?

It's a sweltering 78 degrees here today. Doesn't feel festive at all.

10:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Everton have taken the lead at Upton Park.

Of course the game you wanted to have on FSC is the only game with no goals!!!

10:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you seen Everton's late winner in the League Cup at West Ham? Comical defending again.

Leeds reach half time goalless. Still dominating?

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Blackburn get a late goal to get back into it.

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

1548: GOAL Wigan 3-1 Blackburn
Roque Santa Cruz chests the ball down and unleashes a delicious 25-yard half-volley with the last kick of the half. Brilliant goal.

10:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, Pompey struggling at home. They score for fun away from Fratton Park bt can't seem to do anything at home

10:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Citeh with an early second half goal

11:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No goal for Hamann. OG?

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Blackburn with another goal. A late first half and early second half goal to be right back in it. Brucey must be fuming.

11:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Carlisle have scored against Orient.

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Reading have equalized against Brum

11:12 AM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Hey, lads, made it to the local park at 8 am this morning for old men pick up on a frost-covered field . . . every Saturday should start this way . . . West Ham concede a late first half goal . . . Everton always gives seem to give us trouble . . . Cal's ManYoo jersey arrived for Christmas . . . sixty bucks to Nike and more support for Red Devil empire.

11:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Blimey, I was in the shower and I missed Citeh's equalizer. An OG, eh? I'll forward to seeing that. I like a good own goal, unless it's scored by our lot.

11:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Hey Trev! Happy Saturday to you. Good to hear that you're still getting the boots on; I haven't had the chance this fall. Hoping for some five-a-side action this "winter."

11:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dietmar took a shot and it was going wide but it went off a defender's head

11:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice one! With current results, a similar goal for Leeds would put us in second today.

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the Beeb

"I'm upset about the Blackburn scorer. There are going to be some horrendous 'Santa' jokes."

ooh, Blackburn are down to ten men
Don't know who yet

11:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

My bet's on Robbie Savage.

11:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Emerton is the one that is taking a shower as we speak

11:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Of course we should be on forty eight points and streets ahead of the pack!

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

1615: RED CARD Blackburn
That could scupper the comeback. Brett Emerton gets his second yellow card from ref Mark Clattenburg for bringing down Ryan Taylor. Seemed a bit harsh. Mark Hughes is a very angry man.

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Northants have equalized at Forest

11:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Early shower, eh? Doesn't quite have the same ring as "an early bath." Do they still take the communal baths? I doubt it. Somehow I can't imagine the likes of Ronaldo jumping into a muddy bath with Rio and Roon.

11:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Santa has scored a hat-trick for Rovers

11:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

How many Santa headlines will there be????

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Roque Santa Cruz to complete his hat-trick. The Paraguayan obliges the headline-writers by putting on a Santa hat to celebrate.

11:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ho, ho, ho. Santa's got his hat-trick. He's bringing the toys home for Blackburn fans. He's found out who's naughty and nice in the Wigan defense. Stop me when you get bored...

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forest are now losing!!
Come on LEEDS!!!

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yikes, what a attempted clearance from Dunne.

Wigan back in front!!!

11:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the Beeb...

1624: GOAL Wigan 4-3 Blackburn
This game is officially bonkers. Stephen Warnock has all the time in the world to clear but passes straight to a Wigan player. The ball ends up with Antonio Valencia whose cross is headed home by Marcus Bent.

11:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, Wigan have scored a fourth. That won't please Santa after all of his hard work steering Rudolph and his sleigh into the back of Wigan's net. Perhaps it's a coal delivery for Blackburn's fans after all. Sorry, I can't stop meself...

11:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs dominating at Fratton Park but neither keeper has been tested much.
This is the type of game Spurs end up losing

Curses - a goal for Walsall against the run of play. We're back down to fifth.

After that earlier five-goal thriller, Fulham vs. Newcastle was a real bore, with lots of grim determination but little skill, finally won by that reprobate Joey Barton from the penalty spot. Fulham are in real trouble.
