Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

First Up
The Arse vs The Brums
Come on you blues!! Okay, I will wake up!!!

United take on the managerless Toon. I hope it doesn't make the men in stripes play up.

No game for Leeds today. They take on Crewe on Monday.

Becks and kid at the Emirates.
Brooklyn or Romeo?

9:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

According to the Beeb, that was Brooklyn.

9:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Morning, Dave. Happy Tiswas Day to you. I'm just back from an early morning run to the post office and settling in to enjoy the Arse vs. Brum.

Just exactly why is Becks in London? LA training facilities not good enough?

10:03 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It'll be interesting to see how Eduardo, who's bang in form, and Walcott fit into the first eleven today.

10:03 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Eduardo with his first chance, a very un-Arsenal looking move with an early ball whipped in and he probably say that late and just couldn't make the connection he'd wanted.

10:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

All Arsenal to start. I guess Birmingham don't want to try as hard as they did at Old Trafford!!

10:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I wonder if the other two Nocito boys are reading this blog. Last weekend, Mike and Tony were watching the FA Cup on the BBC and following LOB on Mike's iphone. Hi guys if you are out there.

10:07 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Probably the most interesting game today is Citeh vs. Everton, fourth vs. sixth, both of whom have a shout in that last Champions League spot. I'd luv it, luv it, if Citeh claimed it. They're playing really good football these days. I wonder if Nery Castillo will get into the side today.

10:08 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Hiya to Mike and Tony! Should I send an invitation out to them so that they can participate? I luv it!

Sorry, I've got King Kev on the brain this morning. I'd luv it if he came back to St. James'.

10:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Of course, we'd have to rename the blog Lakenheath Older Boys, right?

What were they're dates of graduation from LHS - 78? 76? Crikey!

10:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

iPhone, eh? Well that's very nice. And how'd you get that, then? By exploiting the workers, by hanging to on to outdated imperialist dogma....

10:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Fulham have taken the lead at Upton Park!! I guess West Ham are going trying as hard they did against United.

Should I just keep this theme going?

10:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Mike graduated in '77 and Tony was WAY BACK in '71

10:13 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Go on, then. That's the other big game of the day with Fulham really needing something. That goal pulls them out of the relegation zone.

10:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Cor dear! 71. Make that Lakenheath Oldest Boy! Hiya Tony!

10:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Brum nearly threw away a goal there but Adebayor made a mess of that. He should have hit it early.

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

With Leeds not playing today, the rivals around us are taking advantage. We're down to sixth.

10:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Jerome with Brum's first chance but Almunia does well to tip that aside and behind. Can we sign him up for England?

10:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Swansea have extended their lead at the top with an away goal at poor old Luton. Come on, the Hatters!

10:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Free header there for Eduardo and he should have scored. Put it straight at Taylor.

10:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And it had to come, didn't it. Penalty to Eduardo, who was pulled down in the area. I'd like to see that again, but my immediate reaction was that it was a penalty.

10:23 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Adebayor to take and he just snuck it in the corner under Taylor.

Arsenal 1-0.

10:23 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Juliano Belletti has driven in a thirty yarder to help Chelski take the lead against Spurs. 1-0 to the Blues.

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Carew has put Villa into a valuable lead against Reading.

10:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am back from my first trip to basketball. I had to leave right at the penalty. What did you think?
West Ham tied it up.
Chelski are winning, Everton have taken the lead against Citeh AND Boro are beating Costa. Lovely jubbly

10:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just saw the replay. I am not sure about the pen.

10:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forest have taken the lead at home to Orient

10:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I guess the guys at FSC and the color man at the Emirates agree with me.

Let's hope Birmingham take on Arsenal in the second half like they did at Old Trafford

10:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I seem to be alone now. The second half has started.
Are you there Mike and Tony?

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

AND BIRMINGHAM HAVE SCORED!!!

From a corner!! What a shocker!!!

11:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a job Neil Warnock is doing at Selhurst Park!!
They are winning again. They are two up at Wolves

11:11 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Just finished chatting with the Gooner. He's not very happy with the marking on that goal. They're really missing Toure there.

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I expect Arsenal to absolutely throw everything forward now.

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forest have scored a second. This will keep Leeds ahead of Orient in fifth place

11:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, we'd still be in third with a win against Crewe on Monday.

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Here comes the Arsenal storm

From the Bridge.

1612: The Chelsea fans are on their feet to greet Nicolas Anelka as he begins his warm-up.

Will he be a Chelsea hit?

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree with this.

1613: "Too early Birmingham! Have fun being parked on the edge of your own penalty area for the next 40 minutes..."
nunChucker on 606

11:15 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm not sure that Anelka will fit in to the system at Chelski. They're still trying to buy trophies. Don't they have any youth system at all?

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Villa have scored a second against Reading.

Our Weekly Red Card has occurred. Pride Park this time. Derby down to ten men

11:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Villa have extended their lead over Reading. What do you think is going wrong for Stevie Coppell?

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Anelka is coming on

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I just don't think Reading's players are that good.

11:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on you SPURS

11:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

They were good enough last season? Second season in the Prem syndrome?

11:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nic Anelka has come on at the Bridge and has alraedy had one half chance saved.

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think that is the case with Reading.
I am please Appy Arry is staying at Fratton.

Some dodgy defending there by Arse.

11:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bendtner is thrown into the action for Theo. It hasn't been his best game, admittedly. Fabregas has also been out of sorts. Good change.

11:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bendtner on for The Arse.

He scored with his first touch against Spurs

11:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What was your feeling about the Allardyce sacking, Dave?

11:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why didn't Eduardo shoot?

11:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Swansea are two up at Luton.

Are the top two starting to pull away.
Could it be that Leeds will have to go through the playoff route?

11:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Hammers have taken the lead through the OTHER Ferdinand

11:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think Big Sam was given a lot of time but I don't think he is that good anyway

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

All we have to do is keep up the pace that we started the season with and we'll win the title. We'd be on 55 points and eight points clear of the Swans without the points deduction.

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Who do you think will take over for the Magpies? Shearer?

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Costa Del Pool have equalized. There's a shocker.... it is a Spaniard who scores. TORRES AGAIN

1630: GOAL Middlesbrough 1-1 Liverpool
Give that man the freedom of the city. Fernando Torres picks up the ball 40 yards out, advances a few yards and powers a rasping shot past Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer.

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Scores from Coke Norwich have come from behind to take the lead at Barnsley.
Sheff. Utd have come from behind to take the lead against London's newest BILLIONAIRES!!!

11:35 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What would Liverpool be without Torres these days? He is quality.

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forest are three up

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have no idea about Newcastle.

I have heard Van Gaal.
How about bringing back Kevin Keegan withe Shearer in as coach?

11:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Motherwell's first game since the death of their captain. They fell behind two nil but have tied it up in the Scottish Cup

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Norwich have scored again. Dion Dublin. I can't believe he is still playing

11:38 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Full-time: Arsenal 1 Brum 1

You'd have to call that two dropped points. I'm surprised that Bendtner couldn't make the difference at the end.

12:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am a happy chappy. Let's hope I am even more happy in a couple of hours!!!

12:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Half time at OT.
United should have had a penalty but Michael Owen was not offside!!!

Good to talk to you Bob

1:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What's going on with the TV Angle??
Twice off the line in the first minute

1:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Interesting angle to watch it from

1:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good start to the second half

1:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Free kick chance

1:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!!!!!!!

1:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That was horrible defending. You can't let the wall break like that. Did Ronaldo predict that they'd do that or was he lucky? We'll never know.

1:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

20th goal for CR this season

1:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It seemed like he meant to keep it down.

1:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Mickey Quinn just had a good line.
He thought that Ron meant to do it but complained about the Newcastle wall. He said, "Why not just stand there and take one in the Niagaras"

Niagara Falls... Balls

1:27 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You've got to be a happier chappy now. I can't see Newcastle coming back from that. Owen's been completely anemic.

1:29 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Tevez - 2-0 Game over.

1:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Awful defending. COMICAL

TEVEZ!!!!

1:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What did you say about my 3-0 prediction?

1:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It's looking good now...

1:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United putting on the tricks now!!!
We're going top!!

1:32 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great shot and save and then Owen should have done better.
Talksport was just saying he is so overrated.

Come on United. Don't give away a silly goal

1:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Old Trafford sounding good.
Sir Alex should be pleased

1:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rooney should have scored his SIXTH!!

1:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Uh oh, here comes Viduka. He always hurt United.

Come on, get number three

1:40 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

uh oh, Evra hurt and being replaced

1:41 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Homer Simpson coming on...

1:42 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

D'oh! I meant OJ...

1:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sir Bobby has turned Russian

1:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHAT A GOAL

RONALDO!!!

1:45 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Tremendous goal. As they said, that wasn't the easiest ball to control but he made it look easy and then waited for Given to commit.

1:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Time to rest Ryan

1:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A comment from a member of the Toon Army

1844: "Pearson out! Sack the board."

1:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

My prediction may be wrong!!

Hull just scored to make it 2-1 with WBA and then WBA are down to 10 men

1:50 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You can tell that a game's over when the commentary team starts deliberating the history of French furniture.

I had a feeling that this match would go like this. Newcastle are a shambles.

1:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great play again. Just as good as the Arse.

SIMPSON ALMOST PUT IN BY ROON

1:54 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rooney will not score!!!

1:54 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What about Ince for Newcastle?

1:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great shot by Carrick. Saved off the line.

UNITED LOOKING FANTASTIC

1:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good run from Newcastle. Great tackle

1:58 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dahlgrenish

1:58 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Absolutely stunning attacking football.
Simpson almost in again.

Wait a minute

RIO!!!!!

2:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great pass by Roon and a great finish by Rio

2:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not just me.

From the Beeb

1859: GOAL Man Utd 4-0 Newcastle
Dazzling from Manchester United

MAKE IT FIVE!!
Hat-trick for Ron

It was nil nil at half

Big Sam is probably happy not to be in charge

2:04 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bloody hell - it's five! This is embarrassing for the Toon.

2:04 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That finish from Rio was exquisite.

2:04 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

How did Roon not get on the scoresheet today?

2:05 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on Roon, get a goal.

2:05 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Surely that was in! Six!

2:06 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

All ball over the line? I think so. Fair enough. Who would want the Newcastle job now?

2:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

MAKE IT SIX!!!
Tevez with another.
I will say it again.

BRILLIANT

I will say it again. It was nil nil at half time

2:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Was it in?

Alan Smith has been sent off????

2:08 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Is that a red card for Smithy? Yes, he's off. What a sorry day for Smithy. Gets the captain's armband, sees his side walloped and then talks his way into an early bath. Well, not that early as it turns out. Full-time whistle - 6-0. Blimey!

2:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No time to kick off

What a second half display!!!

I hopeless at predictions!!!
I said three nil

Great to spend the morning with you Bob

Take care

2:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What do you have to say to a referee in order to get a straight red card? Must have been XXX.

Good day chatting with you, Dave, but that's enough faffing about from me. I've got to get back to Chapter 3.

Cheers!

Oi! No dissing the iPhone . . . it was my only and favorite Christmas present . . . I love it . . . I read all of Saturdays comments on Sunday from the park with the kids . . .

Big win for the Hammers!

9:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

No worries, Trev. I'm an iFanatic, as you know. I just saw Dave's comment as an entre to trot out one of my favorite Python lines. KC will tell you that that's one of my worst habits. Whenever she'll ask what's on tv, I'll invariably say - in a squeaky British voice - "looks like a penguin."

I'm waiting for them to work out the kinks on the iPhone before jumping on board, but it's good to hear that you're loving it.
