Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The FSF Petition

Davey and the Gator mentioned this in passing in a post a while ago, but we haven't given this the airing or indeed the shoe-ing that this obvious money grab represents.

If you don't like this idea, click this link to add your name to the Football Supporters' Federation's petition to the FA to have this plan scuttled.

Done. I was the 1027th person to sign on. Well spotted, Gooner!

Just how many people do they reckon will line up at Giant's Stadium to watch Bolton vs. Wigan?

I still wonder if that's the plan. I can't see that. I really think this if it ever goes through will mean that top 6 or 7 clubs will be the ones coming over to North America, then maybe the next 6 will go to the Emirates, and the ilk of Bolton and Wigan will get the rainy away night at Landsdown Road!

Otherwise, you're right. No way will it work.

Scuddamore keeps banging on about what a success the NFL has had doing a marquee game abroad, but I don't remember the Titans and the Bengals doing the trip to Tokyo.

Americans have access to the Prem and know better than to pay $60 a throw to see Bolton v Wigan.

It's bound to happen somewhere. The Scudamore plan as I've seen it in the press is to have a regular season match with points attached in LA, Tokyo, Dubai, New York, Sydney and Singapore. Presumably some cities will host more than one match.

Now, let's be honest, there are only about six clubs - Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle that anyone really wants to see. If you're being generous, perhaps you could toss in Everton and Citeh. If they're being smart about it they would have to make sure to not any of those sides playing each other, so the dream of a United-Liverpool match anywhere is right out. Even if you match up those eight with eight duff sides, that's only sixteen teams covered. Someone's bound to shell out to see one of promotion sides against one of the perennial losers.

It's a stupid idea in terms of football and even if you're just thinking about money, it's a non-starter. The best they can do is exhibition matches in the summer with some decent sides.
