Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Euro 2008 Group C

The Group of Death!
France
Italy
Netherlands
Romania

This is the one we'll all be watching and it's likely to be tight as a tick. Based merely on tournament mentality, I'm picking Italy to go through, although I can't predict that they'll necessarily top the group. France, who probably have the most impressive squad on paper, will join them. Romania are the dark horses and I expect the Dutch to self destruct as usual.

You?

To my mind, the injury to Patrick Vieira is a blessing in disguise for the French side, since it's allowed Matthieu Flamini to get a call up. Still, the French are so strong they've left out David Trezeguet and Philippe Mexes, both of whom would certainly claim spots on all of the other squads.

Meanwhile, Dutch coach Marco van Basten announced today that Robin "Sick Note" van Persie's thigh strain will keep him out of the opener on Monday.

Unbelievable about RVP. I hate to even think that he'll recover in time to injure himself and sit out the whole year for us.

The French players seem to think that Paddy is a key to success, but having watched a few of his performances this year, I think Flamini is a much better option.

I will put my two cents on Italy and Holland.

The French are getting too old. They almost didn't make it out of the group in the last World Cup and then made it to the final.
