Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

She's Baaaack!

Eight months after she threw Brianna Scurry under the bus after being benched in the World Cup semi final, U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo is back in the fold under the new regime of Swedish coach Pia Sundhage. According to yesterday's New York Times piece, Hope will start in goal in the upcoming Olympic campaign in Beijing but that won't mean that she'll be sharing a lot of laughs with her teammates on the team bus.

What do you reckon - will Hope's exceptional record work in the U.S.'s favor or will her presence wreck the team spirit?

Your thoughts?

We can "Hope" that Solo prospers in goal for the "Mean Girls" under Sundhage's leadership. A whole lot of hypocrisy on that team about who threw whom under the bus besides Solo. I would say that she has a few tire tracks and there is plenty of self righteousness and failure to look in the mirror among many of the women on that team.

Thanks for the input, Anon. I'm hoping for the best for the sake of the side, but I have my doubts.

It's a good move for the team. Hope is clearly better than Brianna and the whole episode could and should have been avoided by just realizing this fact. The women have succeeded in spite of Scurry and Solo offers a real foundation of quality to build upon. The other players need to grow up and accept that it's only soft sentiment that would have Solo benched in favor of the simply awful Scurry.
