Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Mountaineers!

West Virginians have the ability to deal a death blow to the Clinton campaign tonight by voting in large numbers for Barack Obama; yet all polls seem to suggest that the hillbillies will vote to give Hillary some fresh, false hope (sigh).

It's another big primary night - join me if you're still awake.

It's notable that Barack Obama is staying well away from West Virginia tonight where he's likely to be mullered. He's in Missouri, likely to be a swing state in the fall. So he's in fall general election mode.

Wow, Clinton hack Terry McAuliffe has just promised that Hillary will deliver "one of the greatest speeches in history." As Keith Olbermann quipped, "in 2000 years of oratory? That's a lot of speechifying." Stayed tuned - she'll be up between 8 and 9 o'clock.

MSNBC has just declared Hillary Clinton the projected winner of West Virginia by a 2/1 margin. Big surprise there.

Russert just laid out the implications. If she beats him as projected by 66-33, she'll pick up about 19 of 28 delegates and he'll pick up 9. Big deal. Before this evening, Obama needed 151 delegates to win the nomination. Nine delegates would put him down to 142, while Hillary is way behind, needing about 170 to catch up.

Hillary Clinton is scheduled to address her faithful in Charlottesville in the next few minutes. It certainly won't be a concession speech, given her big but but moot victory tonight. We'll be on to Kentucky and Oregon next week for sure.

Coming up on 9 p.m. and Hillary is definitely keeping us hanging for this "greatest speech in the history of the universe" that's been promised.

And here she comes to the robotic chanting of "Hillary-Hillary-Hillary" She starts with a reference to that crap John Denver tune "Country Roads" And then a couple of Biblical references. She is the queen of pandering. I half expect her to take a swig of moonshine out of a jug and pull out a washboard and knock out a jig or two. Sheesh!

Did she really say that "we're in the home stretch?" Home stretch of losing, y'mean, right?

This ain't exactly Cicero speaking at the Forum or Robespierre on the barricades of the Paris Commune. It's the usual campaign hackery.

"Pander. Florida and Michigan should be counted. Pander. We're on the brink of winning. Pander. We won't give up."

Yuck.

Best comment of the night on Daily Kos:

"It's gonna take a wooden stake, holy water and a string of garlic."

Oh dear, the bottom line of that speech was that she's not bailing out until Denver and that she may well engage in a floor fight for superdelegates at the convention.

It seems inevitable now that this will be a brokered convention. I'd say that Obama will prevail but I really wonder whether she and Bill will continue to be a poisonous presence on cable news through the campaign.

I'm afraid that you're right. I was holding out the hope that Billary would drop out after Puerto Rico but it seems that was naive. She's in it to the death.
