Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

As predicted, Arsene has gone for a collection of the superkids:
Arsenal have against named a young team in the Carling Cup, here it is: Fabianski, Hoyte, Song Billong, Djourou, Gibbs, Wilshere, Randall, Ramsey, Merida, Simpson, Vela. Subs: Mannone, Bischoff, Coquelin, Fonte, Lansbury, Ogogo, Frimpong.
Some cracking names there. I particularly like Coquelin, Ogogo and Frimpong.
Steve Bruce has gone with a more recognizable Wigan side:
Kirkland, Cattermole, Boyce, Bramble, Melchiot, Valencia, Koumas, Palacios, De Ridder, Figueroa, Zaki. Subs: Kingson, Taylor, Scharner, Kilbane, Brown, Cywka, Camara.
Brilliant - Jeff Stelling in the commentary booth alongside SuperScot Charlie Nicholas. Hoots, mon!
Looking forward to seeing Jack Wilshere tonight. He looks a bit like the kid who played the Artful Dodger in Oliver. He'll be looking to "pick a pocket or two" tonight against the Wigan defense - boom boom!
Our opponents today Derby couldn't buy a win last season or early on this season for that matter, but they've been on a tear recently. I'm more than a bit worried.
Looking at the Arsenal side in the tunnel, you'd think that they're bunking off school for the afternoon. Surely this is some violation of child labor laws?
Zaki looks to be a handful for the young Arsenal defense tonight.
Not a lot going on at Pride Park so far.
Bramble trying to pull a Thierry Henry by stepping over the bye line on a throw in and then stepping back on the pitch to nod it on.
Bugger! Derby are 1-0 up in the 6th minute. Come on, you Whites!
ManYoo vs. QPR is about to start at 3 p.m. EST.
Ah, Vela was nearly through there. He just got hung up rounding Chris Kirkland.
Loads of pressure now from the Arsenal whiz kids.
Bloody hell - a student interrupted me and now we're 2-0 down!
Stoke have scored against Rotherham while Watford are 0-1 up away to Swansea.
Dazzling stuff from Wilshere!
YESSS! The come-back has started. Becchio in the 41st minute.
GOAL! Fantastic stuff from Wilshere once again, threading a beautiful ball through to Simpson, who finishes well.
Arsenal 1-0
Half-time: It really could have been two or three nil to the Arsenal but for some effective keeping by Chris Kirkland.
I am here
I have Gillette Soccer Special on and I am going to tune in the Arsenal link as well
Second half starting up again...
Hiya, Dave!
What's going on with United? Surely they can see off QPR at home?
Our old boy Rob Hulse is ominously on the bench for Derby today.
We have a history of losing to QPR at home.
Half time no score.
There wasn't a United link this morning but now there is but can't be connected. I will now watch the Arse with the sound down and listen to Gillette Soccer Special. They just said it is all LEEDS!!
Leeds were just very unlucky according to GSS
It's got to be humiliating for these Wigan players to be outplayed by a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds.
Come on you Whites!
I don't even know who is in the United team. On GSS I heard them say O'Shea and Tevez
United's team
Kuszczak
O'Shea
Neville
Rafael
Evans
Nani
Gibson
Anderson
Possebon
Park
Tevez
Not all kids
Stoke are two up
Nice move there by the Arse and nearly a second goal through Gibbs.
It's probably just about time for Chumbawumba.
Carlito's got to be feeling bad that he can only get a game in the Carling Cup. Honestly, we'll take him!
I'm sick of Stoke - they're rubbish!
GSS just said that Leeds almost scored again. They are all over them.
Jermain Beck.. is coming on
Two nil to the Arse
GOAL! Cor! What a burst of pace there from Vela to win that ball, then cross for Simpson to score easily.
Arsenal 2-0.
Go on, Jermaine!
Just wide by Beckford - we're all over them. Come on!
GGS show the Arsenal goal. I didn't know they did that
How are you following Leeds
Wigan are still having a go. There could be more goals on offer here at the Emirates.
Just the text read-out on 365.
Three nil to the Arse
All these goals are stopping me from grading my exams!! I have class in less than two hours!!!!
Why not GGS
GOAL! Oh, that's a delicious chip from Vela. Boy, this kid is good.
Arsenal 3-0!
Can't be bothered.
Did you see that Hargreaves is out for the rest of the season after a knee operation?
Okay, I'm on GSS now. Arsenal have this one in the bag.
Yeah, apparently he's in Colorado visiting specialists. I'm not sure that you'll ever see him again in a United kit.
Well done lad
We've got fifteen minutes left to rescue a replay at Elland Road.
Do you have a white box on the top left of your screen?
This guy needs to click OK!!
There are no replays. GGS said that is extra time and pens tonight
They've definitely got the "B" team of pundits on for the midweek matches. John Salako? Honestly!
Really!?
Yeah, I do - it's a bit irritating. What a nob!
Aidan White on for Leeds. No Chumbawumba yet. Rob Hulse is on for Derby - booooooooo!
I like the sign of that - "It's all Leeds!"
Shame that Frimpong hasn't got a match at the Emirates - excellent name.
That's what they have been saying all night!
Who's the wally reporting on United?
Looks like Leicester have knocked us into third place in the league. They're on top now.
Ten minutes left...
I notice that there's a link now for the United-QPR match. There wasn't one there earlier.
The link for United uses some program I don't have
As for the wally who is covering, I DON'T KNOW.
What the hell is 'defensing'
Uh oh, there is a wave at the Emirates
Do you fancy penalties at OT?
It's better than the usual Library atmosphere at the Emirates, eh?
I have a sinking feeling that Rob Hulse will score. He's just put a header wide.
The pillock doing the stream finally checked the OK box. Well done, lad.
Wigan just hit the crossbar.. should have scored
Ian Dowie looks a bit chilly.
Come on, you Whites! We need a goal!
I'm waiting for you to say it...
It was a great save that put it on the bar
It LEEDS TIME... sharpish
What a save from Fabianski but I don't want to hear anything about Jim Bloody Montgomery.
Thank you.
Come on, Ian, give us a goal!
Stoke are into the quarterfinals.
Arsenal too.
Sorry mate
Bugger - we're out. Ah well, concentrate on the league, eh?
Cheers!
Penalty to United?
Is there a pen at United???
Yes
COME ON TEVEZ......YES!!!!!!!!
Carlito to take....
And scores...1-0 United. That should do it, mate.
Watford into the quarterfinals too.
Right, I'm off home now. I'm off to Houston tomorrow but I'll try to check in with you on the blog. Take care, mate.
Aren't you a globe trotter!!
Take care
Cheers
Sorry about your result Bob.
I'm glad you enjoyed the the way that the boys took down Wigan. Vela is very ready for prime-time in my opinion. The way he finishes, his speed, and he's tougher than he looks.
Wilshere looked great, Ramsey too, and Mark Randall looked very steady in the middle.
That double save from Fabianski caused me to yell out loud, breaking any hope that I had of sneaking my game-watching in the office. But bloody-hell, that was something.
I watched it again and I thought Steve Bruce was pretty classy in defeat.
So, good luck in Texas and may your visit be short and successful. But mostly short. Texas sucks.
