Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I haven't seen enough movies that are in with a shout, but if there's a better performance than Streep's or Langela's, I'd be surprised.

TBF, I haven't really trusted the Academy ever since they blanked "Sexy Beast" years ago.

Langella and Streep are probably locks for those two awards, but I'd love to see Richard Jenkins win for his brilliant performance in the underappreciated "The Visitor," and it's a shame that Sally Hawkins didn't get the nod for the latest Mike Leigh triumph "Happy-Go-Lucky."

Both of those movies were under marketed. I don't understand that kind of thinking where you put so much care into making a film, and then just throw it out there hoping for lightning to strike. Positive reviews in the New Yorker are all well and good, but for chrissakes, set a little aside for marketing.

Another question. Does Mike Leigh have a passport? I don't think I've seen him show up on any chat-show or even in the audience of any award show.

Fair point. I do seem to remember his being in the audience for the Oscars when "Secrets and Lies" was nominated a few years back. But you're right - he doesn't seem so keen to be on this side of the Pond.
