The Window is Closed
The transfer window slammed shut again yesterday at 5 p.m. GMT so it's about time to evaluate the comings and goings. First, it was a fairly underwhelming period. Citeh missed out on all the glittering stars (most notably Kaka) but ended up settling for the likes of Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy and Nigel DeJong. Other sides followed suit picking up workmanlike players (Beattie to Stoke, Heskey to Villa, Mido to Wigan, a crocked Jimmy Bullard to Hull). And in the end we had a bit of a flurry on the last day of action with Arsenal finally landing Andrei Arshavin, Chelski signing Ricardo Quaresma (another winger?!) and Robbie Keane joining up with his mates at White Hart Lane again.
So who did the best business?

I don't know but I had to laugh at the SKY interview of Arshavin outside of the Emirates. Did you see him?
SKY - "Andrei, what are you thinking about this move?
AA - "ehhhh, I'm verryheppy... I.... I am happy I am Gooner now."
Assembled Arsenal Fans - "Gooonah, gooonah, goooonah!"
AA - (looks a little concerned and gives camera a nervous smile)
I'm sorry I missed that one - it sounds like a classic. Correct me if I'm wrong, though; a "Gooner" is a fan of the Arsenal, while the players are "Gunners," right?
In any case, it's a good thing that Lumper, Razor and the Merse aren't around for the traditional initiation rituals. Andrei sounds a wee bit skittish.
You're right. Just look what that lot did to Sagna's hair.
The papers are reporting that Arshavin will where #23 for the Gunners. Any significance in that? Will they call him AA-23?
I wondered that too. The first number available from zero is 13 and he might not have fancied it.
23 was Sol Campbell's # so it's not without a bit of hoodoo associated with it.
