FA Cup Sunday

Wakey, wakey. I'm watching the Arsenal reserves play Cardiff.

the best link I've found is on Davey's ATDHE.

So far, Cardiff are on top of us. 3 opportunities spurned so far. They're catching us on the break pretty easily.

Toure and Djourou are being exposed from the flanks because Gibbs and Sagna are trying to get forward and Ramsey's been coughing up the ball, Song's been passing the ball to the Bluebird midfield, and well, Eboue...

Bendtner and RVP up front.

8:44 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Another chance for Cardiff. Every time they launch it from the back, Toure and Djourou look second to it.

Unless we settle quickly, we're in for it here.

8:45 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Boothroyd for Cardiff is one of our old-boys we let go some seasons back. He's had a chance against us today.

Ramsey's taking a lot of stick from the Welsh fans.

8:47 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That's something you don't see often. The ball went into the stands and was not returned. WTF?

8:49 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ooh, two quick chances for Cardiff.

The first was a difficult bit of skill and a full volley wellied behind, and the second was a shot over the bar after their player went unchallenged outside of the box.

We're getting beaten all over the pitch here. Nasri just gets hustled off the ball by two players at a minimum.

8:51 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Dammmit, Nasri found himself open, running onto a pass but hit it too close to their keeper who parries it away to safety. Good pass from RVP to give him the oppo.

8:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am here Gooner, Good morning
Cardiff have been on top?

8:54 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That chance was just what the doctor ordered because it's pushed Cardiff back to defending for a moment.

8:54 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Hiya Davey,

Oh yeah. For 20 minutes now, Arsenal have employed all 11 to defending and they've had eight or night chances.

They've just been tearing away at our midfield. Ramsey and Nasri are being bullied, and Song and Eboue have been passing the ball either to Cardiff players or playing the ball short to let the Cardiff players snap in for the tackle.

At 22 minutes or so, Nasri should have scored but we could easily be 2 down now.

8:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

When you say bullied, are you saying they have been Boltonish? Wenger will not like it?

8:58 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

It's a bit more even, but I do not like the way we've set up today. It's more or less a first team, no Clichy, Adebayor, or Almunia. Song is very poor.

8:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are any of the same players that played in the 1927 FA Cup Final on either team?!?!?

should I say, are any still alive!

9:01 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

No fouls like Bolton. More like they swarm our little-ish string pullers like Ramsey and Nasri.

Ramsey looked all at sea because they were keying two guys on him that set upon him everytime the ball came to him.

Gibbs has the beating of his man on the left, but his cross has missed Bendtner and then Cardiff launch from the back and Toure and Djourou are in trouble.

9:01 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

You what???

9:01 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Why doesn't Cardiff play in the Millenium stadium?

9:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are Arsenal going to bring anyone in? They only have just over a week!!
On the BBC rumors from different papers, it says that Zenit are going to close the window tonight at midnight if they don't offer the asking price
Another is that Arsene will make a bid of 7 mil for Micah Richards
Your thoughts

9:05 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Nice from Gibbs there. He's young, but he looks very comfortable in Clichy's position and has done so whenever called upon.

Clichy needs the competition too. He's been poor by his standards this year.

9:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just trying to be funny with the 1927 Cup Final. They always say about it being a repeat of that final.... as it has ANYTHING to do with today

9:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think they should play at the Millennium? They would play in front of an empty stadium

9:07 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I don't want to tempt fate, but ever since that Nasri chance, it's been quite even. It must have scared them and they've put 10 men behind the ball since.

9:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Chance for RVP. I thought he should have done better there

9:10 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

You're probably right. The Millennium is such a magnificent stadium with a perfect pitch. The surface here has lots of dips and the ball has bobbled more than it should.

9:10 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, weak. Didn't get all of it for sure.

9:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Keep your 'weak' comments to yourself fish face!!

Yellow card for Eboue for a dive.

9:12 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Song surprises with a completed pass to Sagna and a scramble.

Eboue gets a card for his theatrics. Rather woeful is right.

9:12 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

A weak effort from RVP. Calm down la, eh?

9:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh, you were talking about RVP's effort and not my '27 joke!! I take back my fish face comment

9:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I figured it out before you sent it

Eboue should have done better there

9:15 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

See what happened to Nasri there? He collects the ball, and there are three guys harrying around him. That's what Cardiff have done to him and Ramsey who are clearly the perceived threats.

9:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Almost half time, are you pleased to be level at half time

Struth, Arsenal almost fall behind and break quickly and Bendtner screws it up and then again from the corner!!

9:18 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

The boards this week were full of some 8million pound offer from Real Sociedad for Eboue. If it were true, we would have taken it but it did get people excited that we were rid of him.

Chances for Nick here and nothing from it.

Half time and on the face of it, Cardiff a little on top, but we've fought our way through to have a few chances ourselves.

We can regroup and maybe find our way through in the second half.

I'm off for a brew-up and will be back soon.

9:19 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Relieved to be on level terms, not happy.

9:20 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Hilarious! An all-Scouse crew with Robbie Fowler and Stevie Macmanaman in the studio.

9:27 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Have you noticed that the links from my2p2 are mostly closed down recently? I've been more successful with Iraqgoals and ATDHE than myP2P these days.

9:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, lads. I had a bit of a lie-in but I'm here at half time with you.

9:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Morning Bob

I agree with Steve. The p2p links are non mac ones

9:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bugger, Arteta is out of the Merseyside derby

We are off again in Cardiff

9:35 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Right. If TVAnts or Sopcast was compatible with a Mac, I'd be all over it.

9:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I have noticed the same thing about myp2p that you have. The Sopcast links are still there but the ones that are Mac compatible are nearly gone. I have more luck with just going to Justin.TV itself if adthe doesn't work.

9:38 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Arteta is faking and putting his stereo into foam peanuts in anticipation of his dream move to the Emirates.

Or is that my dream of his move to the Emirates?

9:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have a simple question, why are Arsenal wearing yellow? Blue and red don't clash!

9:40 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Iraqgoals.com and then clicking the English link has worked for me a lot of the time

Can't complain too much about thie ATDHE link today, though.

9:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The Cardiff natives look a wee bit restless. What is it with that club that makes them so thuggish?

9:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Do Arsenal ever wear the red shirts and any other color shorts other than white? That is, maybe it's the shorts that would clash, right?

9:42 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I agree. It's possible we'd have had to wear contrasting shorts though and just decided to do the away.

I'm wearing this shirt right now. Nothing else though.

9:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What's happening with the Arshavin move?

9:43 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

9:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Put some pants on, mate. Honestly!

9:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The only issue I have with adthe is that it does make typing on LOB a bit more challenging as if it's sucking more memory out of my laptop than the others. Anyone else have that issue?

9:45 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Who knows? I'm bored of it already. He moves, he doesn't, who cares? It's not like he's as good an answer to our problems as a world class center back or central defending midfielder would be.

9:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I really want teams to wear their main colors as often as possible.

9:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Looks like Diaby's being prepared to come on.

9:47 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

No pants until we score.

9:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'd like to see United wear the grey kit as often as possible.

9:47 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I don't have that issue on my desktop.

Jesus, we're a bit luck there. Fabianski nearly fumbled too.

9:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't have problem with that. The one issue is that the screen small. It I make it full screen it is great but then I can't blog

9:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will let you wear my grey shirt the next time you come here

9:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ramsey off. He seemed a bit overawed today. Or perhaps some Cardiff thugs to stick a leek up his arse.

9:49 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I never can see them when they wear the grey.

Aaron not at his best today. Diaby on. Percentage of completed passes will suffer now.

9:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice hit my McCormick

9:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, my laptop is five years old and has been through the wars for sure. So I mustn't grumble.

9:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ref, it wasn't a penalty, why wasn't he booked? Eboue was.

9:51 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Jay should be ticketed for that fall like Eboue did in the first half.

Didn't take Diaby long to get a knack. The most brittle footballer in the game.

9:51 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

RVP with a very tough angle there.

9:53 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Nick with the spectacular there.

9:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I've just noticed that it's Peter Enkelmann in goal for Cardiff. Love to see a repeat of that throw in that he let under his foot in the Brum derby a few years back. That was quality goalkeeping.

9:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ade coming on

9:55 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I can't think of why Davey doesn't like it when we play in yellow and blue? What ever happened I wonder when Arsenal played Man United in those colors?

9:55 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

OMG, how did they escape that scrappy episode without a goal!!!!

9:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will have to leave you Dahlgren brothers to finish up the game. I have to take the boys to flag football

Parenting!!!

I will be around for the second half of the derby

Good luck Steve

9:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Scrappy will do right about now.

9:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Cheers, Dave. Talk to you later.

9:58 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Do they wear the flags so you can see them in the snowdrifts? Maybe a blinking light too in that case.

Cheerio Davey, thanks.

9:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't like it, all these Yanks take over this indoor soccer facility and change it into A. Football

Cheerio

10:00 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

So how did you rate the U.S. performance, mate?

10:00 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Surely Nick is going to come good soon enough.

10:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Someone pop a stick of dynamite under Ridsdale's seat for me then. Ta!

10:04 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

3 out of 5.

I thought Sasha did really well, I thought that Ching's take for Sasha's third was nothing short of breathtaking, but other than them, I don't think there's much point having any of the rest in the squad.

The new Nigerian was particularly poor when the Swedes scored their second, but really Perkins should have kept that out. He was always doing that at DCU too.

Oh, crap Manu. Finish that up, yeah? What a chance.

10:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Fifteen minutes left now. I asked this of Davey yesterday. If you had the option of extra time before a replay would you go for it?

10:05 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Sniper's bullet would have less collateral damage.

Nasri needed something less ordinary there.

10:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Agreed. Perkins was poor and I was unhappy about Wynne's positioning when he had to defend. He's quite good at providing overlapping attacks but he's vulnerable when tracking back. That cross should never have come over for their second.

10:07 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Today I would. We can grind down a team like this who have been dependent on their energy to keep up with us.

If it was a footballing premiership team, no.

10:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I put a status update about wanting a return of the guillotine on Facebook last weekend and got howls of protest. I meant it to be tongue in cheek but honestly that bloke at Merrill who used the TARP money to redecorate his office - off with his head, right? Same goes for Rids for me.

10:10 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Brian Carroll was rubbish too. I thought that the Swedes immediately looked brighter the second he was on and not keeping up with the game.

Sasha and Ching. Even Kenny Cunningham was awful. I despair of that guy. He's not even a 20 minute man that guy. What did he do at Old Trafford? Make the pies?

10:10 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Aha, wondered what that Robspierrian reference was about.

10:11 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Rids in the tumbrel suits me.

10:12 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The steam's gone out of the game. It's as if they've settled for the draw.

10:13 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Actually, I'm going to take that back. We've got Everton on Wednesday. I'll take a draw and a replay to conserve our energy for that.

10:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I think I mentioned that I saw a bumper sticker in my unit down in Gville that read "Don't Blame Me - I Voted for Robespierre" with a wee guillotine on it. I've been looking for it ever since with no luck. Must have been homemade. Genius!

10:15 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Nick's really trying still. He is collecting the ball too deep and running with it. That's not his strong point. He's best as a 6-yard merchant.

10:15 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Jesus, that looked pretty dangerous. Wilshere? We look like a bunch of Hobbits in the midfield today.

10:18 AM

Blogger gooner71 said...

C'mon, get the head on that!

10:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Blimey, it's Eddie Johnson! I had no idea he'd gone out to Cardiff.

10:22 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Atkinson is a petty referee. He's one of the worst for cracking down on the petty and ignoring the physically reckless.

And he's a quick-draw on the weak pen too.

10:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Who do you fancy in the draw coming up?

10:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's it. It'll be settled back at the Emirates.

10:24 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

0-0 is a weak result for us.

More than a bit disappointing.

Ah, well. Have a good Sunday. Cheerio.

1731: Steve Bennett decides to keep it 11 v 11 after Javier Mascherano falls theatrically to the floor after a half-hearted challenge from Tim Cahill. 12:34 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah, where did that league come from? They couldn't sustain one after the 1999 World Cup win here, with the league loaded with the likes of Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain. How are they going to do that now? The only one I know is the blonde bint who flogs the Kickmatics with Double T.
