Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Who Should Get Into the R&R Hall of Fame?

As we're heading to Cleveland this weekend, I was interested that the nominees for this year's admission to the Hall of Fame were announced yesterday. So which five of this lot would you give the nod to this time around:

1. ABBA
2. The Chantels
3. Darlene Love
4. Donna Summer
5. Genesis
6. Jimmy Cliff
7. KISS
8. Laura Nyro
9. LL Cool J
10. Red Hot Chili Peppers
11. The Hollies
12. The Stooges

I'm going with the five that are currently residing on my iPod - Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS and The Stooges. What about you?

Five of that lot?

Darlene Love: Yes, for her vocal influence. One of the great singers.

Laura Nyro: Not necessarily for her solo work, but like Carole King, one of the finest songrwriters of her era.

KISS: Never liked them, but hard to ignore.

Genesis: Only if Peter Gabriel's with them.

And that's it for me.

Totally agree with you on Genesis. Those geezers have to bury the hatchet and get Gabriel back in the fold for an epic jam on "Supper's Ready." Bring back Steve Hackett and all.

Basically, I'd go with just about anyone on the list bar ABBA - they are the anti-rock 'n' roll.

KISS, Darlene Love, The Stooges, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis with Gabriel.

Did you slip the RHCP's in as a joke? They're contenders?

I'm afraid so. I suspect that Jann Wenner and co. are expecting that if they're inducted, the boys will liven up the proceedings with the socks on cocks routine.
