Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Heeeeeeee's Back!

The Champions League tie between United and Milan was virtually settled by one Wayne Rooney last week, so the main narrative behind today's clash is the return of Goldenballs to his Old Trafford stomping grounds. Will the crowd boo him? Will Fergie give him a ceremonial boot in the face for old time's sake? Will see in a few moments. Join me for this afternoon's activities from 2:45 pm onward.

The teams are coming out of the tunnel at OT now. I've got a lovely link for the FSC coverage up through Atdhe.

The team news is in and there's a shock - Beckham is on the bench!

Flamini takes his place on the right.

2:45 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Meanwhile Fergie's gone with experience by putting the Neviller in instead of Rafael.

And the Rooner is back up top for United. That's a plus!

Nani running down the left side, Valencia on the right. Fletcher running down the middle.

Park is in as well. That is an attacking line-up from Fergie.

First chance for United. Roon spins at the top of the D and shoots just wide. He might have played Nani in there but who's going to argue against Roon having a pop in this form?

2:48 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oooooh - The Neviller has a pop and isn't that far away from the opener from United. It's all Red Devils attack right now. Milan look like the creaky old superstars that they are.

2:52 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - that's close. Ronaldinho thought he had scored there from the header. VDS was rooted to the spot. Great opening to this one.

2:54 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Former Old Trafford hero Cristiano Ronaldo has opened the scoring for Real against Lyon. That ties up that fixture 1-1 on aggregate.

2:54 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Guess who? Roon - that's who!

Another quality cross in, this time from the Neviller, proving his manager right with his selection - and Roon just glanced it past Julio Cesar with ease.

1-0 United! (4-2 on agg!)

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

So that's this tie over. What more is there to play for now? No Becks on the pitch either for the OT crowd to either boo or appreciate. Not sure why we're watching anymore.

Burnley could certainly put some pressure on the fellow relegation strugglers with a win against Stoke today. That would put them on 26 points and drop Wolves into the drop zone.

Why does David Platt sound like the pie salesman has crept into the studio?

Hi,
I am finally home
Great score but I see Milan have had the most possession.

How has the game gone?

3:15 PM

Stoke winning
Real winning

I've lost my link for the match and am searching for an alternate.

Boom boom

From Richard in London, via text on 81111: "Re 2002. The pitch is lacking grass at Burnley? Do they need Moor Turf?"

3:20 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Heya mate - welcome! I've lost my link so I can't comment. Milan have come back into the match since Roon's goal but I reckon that the ties over. They need to score three at this point to win the time. Even two goals would see United through on away goals rule. Don't worry!

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I know, but I want another goal!

3:22 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm back up on a VSS link that has the ITV coverage.

3:23 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Of course you do - you're never satisfied! If United were 18-0 up away from home, you'd want the 19th!

3:23 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Really having trouble with the links this afternoon. That tends to happen with United.

3:27 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Too many people watching!!

Half time!!!

Satisfied!
Of course, Milan were winning in the first leg

3:32 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half-time at OT then - 1-0 to the United. Beckham coming off looked pretty angry. He'd like to be out there, for sure. I hope that Don Fabio is watching and notes that Goldenballs can't even get a match at Old Trafford for Milan!

3:32 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Marcel Desailly is disappointed with the Milan performance. And no wonder - they've been pants!

3:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have the ITV link on too, those were two big chances for Milan!

3:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Seedorf, not Becks, is coming on

He scored last time

3:51 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Blimey - I'm just back from setting up my class and Roon has scored again. Fantastic!

Now do you think that the tie is over?

3:51 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This again shows the sheer dominance of Premiership clubs over Serie A clubs. Milan are currently in second place in Serie A four points behind Inter. That is, they're essentially in the equivalent position as United. But United have demolished them home and away now.

3:53 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That was interesting from Fletch!

3:53 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nani made a great outside of the foot pass to Rooney to knock it in

Of course, Milan needed 3 goals to win it. Now they need 3 to tie it

3:54 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As for Becks on the bench, it wasn't much of a shock. He hasn't started since the first leg

Have United score another, have Becks come on and have him BEND ONE

3:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Milan get a chance
He should have put it in

3:56 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't want to hear essentially!!! United are TOP

3:58 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dahlgrenish sliding tackle there by Valencia!!

3:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not exactly Dahgrenish speed to almost score twenty seconds later

4:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dido has lost his place in the team after the first leg too

4:01 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!

PARKY!!!

Nice pass by Scholesey

4:01 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It's not 19-0 but I am safe now!

4:03 PM

Old Trafford....'There's only one David Beckham"

Then he is booed when he gets the ball

4:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Classic... cheering for him and then booing him every time he gets the ball

Martin Tyler wants to see a Scholes crunching tackle on his mate Becks

Rooney going off and being replaced by Berbatov

Neville off too

4:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As he goes off, Neville runs past Becks and Scholes and giggles

Scholes fouls Becks and gets a mindless yellow

4:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Scholes yellow wasn't for a foul.. he kicked the ball away. Come on Ref.... United aren't time wasting!
VDS saves a deflected shot by Flamani with his feet

4:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Gibson coming on... probably for Scholes

4:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Scholes it is

4:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh... Becks has a brilliant volley!! Saved by VDS

Great it.... OT cheers the shot

4:17 PM
