FA Cup Quarterfinals Live!
It's FA Cup Quarterfinals weekend. There may be no action on the box but, no matter, we know where to find it, don't we? It all starts with Pompey v. Brum in a few moments followed by Fulham v. Spurs at noon. In between is the usual league action. Join me for the usual Saturday morning LOB banter, won't you?
700 Comments:
Only three fixtures today in the Premiership:
Arsenal 2 Burnley 0
West Ham 1 Bolton 0
Wolves 0 United 3
Classic - I've got Soccer Saturday going and Jeff is comparing David James' haircut to that of "Fifi" from Fifi and the Flowertots. Have a look:

Channel 1 of VSS is going straight into the Pompey v. Brum Cup tie. Terrific!
Meanwhile there's championship fly fishing on ESPN2. Typical idiocy.
Good Morning from sunny England .
We actually have all four FA Cup
games this weekend live on ITV .
Lovely Jubbly .
And FSC has got an infomerical on the "Titan Peeler" on. Ridiculous!
Ah well....I've got a super link for the ITV coverage of the Cup going. Round of applause for Keith Alexander of Macclesfield Town now.
Are you there, Tony? Everyone this side of the Pond seems to be sleeping in this morning.
Morning, Tony! Lovely jubbly indeed. Kick off time!
Piquionne has made a quick start to the match, testing Joe Hart in the early moments.
Good tribute to Keith Alexander .
Hi Bob . Where is everyone ???
Good Morning Tony and Bob.
I am here!
I don't know why FSC aren't showing the Cup this weekend. They have shown all the other rounds! Maybe it is their new FSC Plus that is showing it. Buggers!
I did see that they are showing the Reading Villa game tomorrow but I don't think live
Today, we have West Ham Bolton on at 10 and Wolves United on at 12:30
Off to find some links
Morning, Dave! You can't do better than Channel 1 of VSS this morning. It started with SS and then straight into the match.
I have the match link and SS going
I will be back in a tic. Taking Matt to ref
Good Morning Dave .
Did You see we get all four games ?
I can't remember them doing that
before .
No - we're not getting either match today on the box. Two Prem matches instead. Thank goodness for the on-line speakeasies.
False alarm. I don't have to go to a little later
The Rec Tiddlywinks is off today?
I did see that Tony. I am glad the FA Cup is getting some love. Are they all on ITV?
My match was a little jumpy because of the SS window open. I have turned off SS for now
What is going on in League 1 today?
Rec Tiddlywinks doesn't start until 8:30
It does seem as if ITV has made more of a commitment to footie this season.
Yes . After this match we have
Midsomer Murders and then the next
match . Tomorrow they are back to
back .
I can't believe the winner of this match is in the semi final and going to Wembley!
Did you see they are relaying the pitch again??
What a palaver!!
I saw two somewhat interesting things yesterday
#1 I saw good old Max Bretos on ESPN News yesterday. He must have left FSC for ESPN. Wonder if he moved for the World Cup?
#2 I read in Newspaper that ESPN2 are going 24 hours soccer before the first match of the World Cup and ABC are expecting big ratings for the USA England match
Thanks for asking, Dave:
We've got a relatively easy home match against Brentford. Three points a must there.
Norwich are at home to Yeovil. Three points for them there.
Here's where it gets interesting. Charlton are at home to woeful Stockport and Colchester aren't playing today. And then Huddersfield are away to Gillingham and Swindon are at home to Bristol Rovers. Should be an interesting day.
I hate that the FA Cup has not had much press... it's the QUARTER FINALS!!
I heard they are discussing playing the games Midweek to make them more relevant. How would that be?
The other interesting aspect of ESPN2 World Cup coverage is that they've grabbed up Martin Tyler for the commentary. I hope he's bringing Andy Gray with him.
Brown and Boyer have some handbags
Also, ABC and ESPN crews will actually be at the venues for the matches
Have you had any luck finding the new Fox Soccer Channel, Dave?
I am pleased that ESPN are actually making a big deal about Tyler commentating.
I don't quite see why this is such a high-stakes match for Pompey. It doesn't change anything for them in they get through to even the Cup Final.
Nearly half an hour gone now. Pompey have had the better of the match but precious few chances or decent footie as of yet.
The only thing that makes a difference
is the prize money for each round .
I can see that, Tony. But it's surely not enough to clear their debts, right?
No , but it might pay the players for
another week or two . Things are that
bad .
I am now really have to take Matt to Tiddlywinks
Coming to the end of the first half now. Lots of Cup blood and thunder. Very little product though.
And as I type that, Utaka has the best chance of the first chance and decides to balloon it over the top.
Half time interval, then. I'm off for a half time shower.
I'm back for what I hope is a more attractive and less industrious second half. The Pompey chimes are sounding good.
I am back for little bit before I take a second son to soccer. This time to coach
PLAY UP POMPEY!!
Very weird that Pompey and Birmingham were scheduled to play today in the league!
It happens a lot
I thought you just took second son ?
It's the "other" second son.
WHAT ???
I suppose a replay would give Pompey some extra revenue from their share of the gate receipts and the ITV telly money. That's something. Might keep David James in hairbands for another week.
Pompey knocking on the door now.
Should have scored there
Larson through on goal but James tipped over. Ref didn't see it though. Goal kick.
Where has Dave gone ? Is he out
counting his sons ?
Blimey - I've just noticed that Bristol Rovers are 0-3 up at Swindon. Where did that performance come from. It'll do Huddersfield's chances no end of good.
He's off collecting random children from the neighborhood (his "sons") to take them to their various "Rec" activities this morning.
Still no score
Jamie O'Hara pulls a great save out of Joe Hart.
1 - 0 POMPEY
I said I took A second son... not my second son.
I actually dropped off son #2 first and then I just dropped off son #1 and #3
POMPEY SCORE!!!!!
WEMBLEY WEMBLEY!!!
That Swindon score is good for you?
GOAL! After a mad scramble in the box, it's Frederic Piquionne who stuffs it in.
Pompey are 1-0 up!
Sounds right Bob .
I'd like to think that Swindon don't have anything to do with us. If we start worrying about 5th v. 6th place, I'm not going to be happy.
TWO NIL!!!!
"Don't have a penny might have a Cup"
Good line
Dave , if you also dropped off sons
1 and 3 that would mean third son .
2 - 0 Unbelievable
GOAL! Piquionne gets his second. Great commentary line there.
"Portsmouth might not have a penny, but they might have a Cup."
JINX
Or perhaps the "third" second son once removed?
Point taken Bob .
But he's the math teacher . He should
know .
I forgotten how many sons I have!!
Uncle Tony needs to come over and help me sort them out... don't you agree Bob?
He hasn't been over here since my wedding!! 19 years and counting!
Working on it Dave
Brum have a chance here. A slight chance, from a free kick.
Larsson takes and....into the stands. Woeful.
I do agree - your obviously in desperate need of a census. World Cup trip, Tony?
Goal for Birmingham but not given... that was surely over the line before flower head saved it
I don't believe you Tony!
Ridgewell is claiming that he's nodded it over the line. It certainly looked like that on the replay but the ref isn't having any of it. It's definitely Pompey's day.
Still 2-0.
Cue goal line technology debate!
Any thoughts about that LHS reunion in the Boston-area, Dave?
Less than five minutes now....
I did see that post
I am not sure about it
When does your 10/11 school year start? Do you know?
4 added minutes
After Labor Day
I'm thinking about buzzing in for a day or so. I could pick you up and we could share a room?
That's it!!
Well done Pompey!!!
I am off to walk the dog with Kath
Be back soon
Have a good walkies - see you in a bit for the main action of the day.
Leeds team news for today's match:
Richard Naylor is out through suspension, so Leigh Bromby pushes into the middle and his place is taken by Aidan White. Otherwise, pretty much a full strength side with Howson and Doyle pushing through the middle, Becchio and Beckford up front and Snoddy and McSheffrey providing width. New boy Paul Dickov on the bench.
Warren Barton really looking the part of the Cockney spiv today in an especially shiny suit. He looks like an extra from "The Italian Job."
...no, no, the CHINESE watch...mother....
I've switched over to Channel 2 of VSS for Soccer Saturday. Channel 1 had switched to some kind of Neighbors style soap.
Swindon have lost 0-4 to Bristol Rovers in the end. They're still in 5th but Huddersfield could leapfrog them with a win today against Gillingham.
Arsenal welcome back midfielders Andrey Arshavin and Abou Diaby to the squad as they look to go top of the Premier League against Burnley.
I don't see a link for that match, although perhaps the Gooner can find one.
For once the FSC match has kicked off on time. West Ham v. Bolton on the box.
I am back and have a Justin link for SS
Morning chaps. Still looking for a viable feed from the Em. Any ideas?
Morning, Gooner. I'll take a peek.
Couple on this site and one worked for a second
http://www.justin.tv/directory/sports/soccer?kind=live&order=hot&lang=en#r=4T1xzqE~
Norwich take the lead
This one works
http://www.justin.tv/sd_cricket#r=4T1xzqE~
This one seems to have an ESPN stream working for the Arse v. Burnley:
http://hqsportz.net/chan1.html
Morning Gooner
no commentary but I've got freedotv.com up. Just in time to see Rosicky flash one near and then Bendtner screw one wide.
So that's Norwich seven points up on L1 with a five goal advantage on us.
Try that ESPN stream I posted. It's got the usual English commentary.
Cardiff lead Boro
Wednesday lead Leicester
Tranmere lead Sotton
Lovely feed Bob. Tah very much
The Upton Park pitch doesn't look too good and Bolton take the lead!!
Sounds like we're on top against Brentford. Two early chances from Snoddy and Becchio. It's surely time for JB to end his goal drought.
Classic header by Davies
Burnley got a feed header so defensively it's no change--scratch that, Silvestre in for Campbell. Gallas still out.
GOAL! Gooner's favorite striker Kevin Davies rises to meet a nice cross and the Hammers are 0-1 down at Upton Park.
Bolton 0-1.
I still think he has scored in all three decades too
Huddersfield have conceded a goal
Tranmere 1-0 up on the Saints. Soton seem unable to build any kind of campaign toward a play-off spot.
I stand corrected. That Bolton goal was a free header. Comparatively, Burnley's chance was well policed.
Gillingham have taken the lead against Huddersfield, so they're not taking advantage of Swindon's loss.
And Charlton have benefited from an own goal. They're 1-0 up and now only two points behind us. I'm not happy with that at all.
Struth... Bolton are two up!!
Elmander nearly glanced in a header in the near post from a long throw.
And that's #2 for Bolton. What is happening to the Hammers defense!
0-2 Bolton!
It's the Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere with the Bolton goal there.
The Gunner Wilshire with the goal
Charlton are two up!
Come on Leeds
Walcott = Ouda Allason.
Bags of pace, but no final product. I'm losing faith. He's had two clear chances to simply square the ball to first Nasri, and then Fabregas. Under no pressure, he puts both behind our guy's run, straight to a Burnley defender.
Sotton have tied it up
Palace with odious new manager Neil Warnock are one goal up. Warnock is their fifth manager this season!
Millwall losing to Walsall
Better, lovely interplay between Eboue and Fabregas. Just THAT wide. Shame.
How many goals do the Arse need to go top?
Crikey - Elmander nearly had Bolton's third there. Hammers defense seem to be still in bed having a lie in.
Nasri, all alone adjudged incorrectly to be offside.
Just took a look. They need to win by 4
Jeff's Hartlepool side are one up against the struggling Southend. The Shrimpers are going down.
Lots of goals flying in in L1 but I want one for the home side at Elland Road. We're completely dominant right now.
4 goals Davey. But you're up against Wolves so you'll be able to time our time at the top with an egg-timer.
West Ham can't really afford to lose this one!!
They have Chelsea and Arsenal up next both away from Upton Park
I hope so but Wolves deserved something against Chelsea a couple of games ago
Bloody Hell... Neil Warnock's new team QPR beating WBA 2-0 already
QPR now 2-0 up against WBA. Great start for Darth Vader.
Any news from Elland Road Bob?
Total domination by the Whites, Dave. Five shots so far against nil for Brentford. I'm hoping that it's a matter of time. I've counted this one as a definite three pointer for us.
Great save from Jaskelainen from a West Ham free kick. Still 0-2 Bolton.
It will be my son... it will be
Cheers, mate!
Palace beating the Blades
Leeds old-boy Paul Hart is the new manager at Palace.
Decent penalty shout for Walcott--not given. Eduardo embargo.
Wonder if Roon will play today
The news this morning says that SAF is blaming Roon for playing 86 minutes on Wed after hurting his knee in the Cup Final.
Hope he is okay... we haven't got Owen as back up
Jeff S saying that Arsenal have been edgy at the back
Do you agree Gooner?
Suicidal clearance from Almunia, but Burnley undo the pressure by clattering Rosicky. Yellow for them, and an escape for us.
Apparently Roon is out for today. Fergie's been having a whinge all week about the Wembley pitch after wee Mikey did his hamstring at the weekend and then Roon played 90 minutes on it for England in mid-week.
Saints have equalized against Tranmere.
Is it definite that Roon is out?
Huddersfield are 1-0 down and now down to ten men.
Walsall are 2-0 up against Millwall now.
Rangers losing at home to St. Mirren... they'll still win
Not particularly. A hack by Clichy opened up a free kick opportunity and then of course, the Spanish waiter's contribution.
Otherwise, we're mostly in control. Nasri is down right now colliding with Denmark's answer to Fatty Fowlkes.
We may have lost one Owen but we are getting one back
Owen Hargreaves is playing for the reserves this week
That's what 365 said this morning.
Told you
Rangers have tied it up within a minute
Everybody is up. Nasri's grimacing though. Getting booed by Northern Orks when he comes on.
Walsall leading Millwall 2-1
Are the London side still a factor?
Hartlepool now 2-0 up and Jeff is rather smug about it all. The James Brown statue may be coming up.
The Arse scores!!
Fab with the goal!
GOAL!
Well, yes. Because Swindon lost this morning and Huddersfield also look like losing today, so Millwall are still on the margins of the last play-off spot.
Cesc with the goal
Sky Sports have his name as
Francesc Fabregas... I didn't know that
Just as I was ready to have a real go at Nik for being second best to a tap-in that Jensen got to, Rosicky recovered the pass plays it back, Nasri spots Fabregas with the run and 1-0.
Right after, Walcott jets down the wing and..... puts it behind a waiting Nik. Honestly.
Oh dear - Carlton Cole was straight in on goal but he was slower than his granny in getting the shot off.
I agree with Bonnie Charlie... took too many touches!
The Baggies score at Loftus Road
I would rather see Forest go up with Newcastle rather than WBA. WBA will just go straight back down
Agreed. West Brom are no hopers in the Premiership.
Struth... Bolton should have put another one in... I would have burried it!
Fabregas injury worry now. He's continuing, but...
Now Walcott gets sliced down by Fox, and there are a few handbags waved. Walcott saw the two footed, aerial arrival of Fox and jumped out of the way.
Diaby on for Fabregas. That's a worry for Wednesday.
Fab has gone off injured? What is up?
Fabregas has limped off to be replaced by Diaby.
Llanelli are five one up to Elements Cefn Druids!!
What is the score in your CL tie?
Today's match at Molineux worries me with what team Fergie will put out with the CL in midweek
Eight shots to two for Leeds at Elland Road. Still no goals, though. I'm very frustrated as the interval comes up.
I've been following your advice of not wearing the lucky Leeds shirt durign matches, Dave. What should I do? Put it on at half time?
Keep it off... three goals by the team in white in the second half.... mark my words!!
Bolton should have scored again!!
2-1 for them at Stadao Dragao.
How did Elmander miss that one? What a sitter - he could have had a hat-trick today.
No goals but creating chances.... as I said... three goals
"Leeds well on top with loads of chances," according to the SS reporter.
That's right... the bogus goal from the back pass
Bob changed my mind!
Half time at UP 0-2
The LLS gets washed everytime there's a loss right? And not washed if there's a win. Respect the MOJO.
Six goals in the first half at Ashton Gate. 2-4 Doncaster there!
Can Arsene recall Wilshire back from Bolton because of Ramsey and now Fab?
0-0 at half time at Elland Road.
Newcastle take the lead with a pen and Barnsley's keeper sent off for the foul
1-0 at the half. They're really hanging crepe over Fabregas and his injury. I didn't see what happened to him, but I hope this is precautionary.
Picture on Soccernet shows a picture of the Arsenal players before the match. They are all wearing a t-shirt saying Get Well Aaron
I wouldn't know about recalling Wilshire. It wouldn't completely surprise me if he didn't return and we cashed in on his potential.
We've got Fran Merida who could fill in if necessary. Keeping Diaby fit will be key if Fabregas is out for any amount of time.
There are Rambo tributes all over the ground as well.
Kick-off in the second half at Upton Park. The Hammers have a big hole to dig out of.
Dyer nearly in there for the Hammers. He seems to have gone all Yakuza with the tattoos these days.
Sounds like Theo's just stuck one on Bendtner's head but the big Dane has put it wide. Nearly 2-0 there for the Gunners.
JB has had a shot stopped by the tubby Brentford keeper. Early chance there for our top scorer.
In the first minute of the second half, Nik again misses a sitter.
He and Theo took a right kicking from the studio commentary team. Nik described as not quality enough for the Premiership. Unfair, but he needs to finish those.
Okay, here it is
IT'S LEEDS TIME
Bendtner's missed another one! He could have had four today!
Thank you, mate! Any advice on the lucky Leeds shirt? I just gave it a well-needed wash the other day.
Jesus! How do you bash a ball over the bar from 6 yards? Ask Nik. What a 'mare he's having
"All Leeds at the moment," according to the SS reporter. We need a goal!
Burnley have tied it up!!
What is going on??
Sorry Gooner
Oh dear - Burnley have equalized! How did that happen?
Andy Hughes has limped off for Leeds to be replaced by big Lubomir Michalik.
Ridiculous! Burnley recover a hoofed clearance. It bounces past Silvestre who watches Nugent score.
