FA Cup Quarterfinals Live!

It's FA Cup Quarterfinals weekend. There may be no action on the box but, no matter, we know where to find it, don't we? It all starts with Pompey v. Brum in a few moments followed by Fulham v. Spurs at noon. In between is the usual league action. Join me for the usual Saturday morning LOB banter, won't you?

Classic - I've got Soccer Saturday going and Jeff is comparing David James' haircut to that of "Fifi" from Fifi and the Flowertots. Have a look:

Meanwhile there's championship fly fishing on ESPN2. Typical idiocy.

Good Morning from sunny England .

We actually have all four FA Cup

games this weekend live on ITV .

Lovely Jubbly .

7:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And FSC has got an infomerical on the "Titan Peeler" on. Ridiculous!

Ah well....I've got a super link for the ITV coverage of the Cup going. Round of applause for Keith Alexander of Macclesfield Town now.

Are you there, Tony? Everyone this side of the Pond seems to be sleeping in this morning.

Morning, Tony! Lovely jubbly indeed. Kick off time!

Good tribute to Keith Alexander .

Hi Bob . Where is everyone ???

7:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good Morning Tony and Bob.
I am here!

I don't know why FSC aren't showing the Cup this weekend. They have shown all the other rounds! Maybe it is their new FSC Plus that is showing it. Buggers!

I did see that they are showing the Reading Villa game tomorrow but I don't think live

Today, we have West Ham Bolton on at 10 and Wolves United on at 12:30

Off to find some links

7:38 AM

Morning, Dave! You can't do better than Channel 1 of VSS this morning. It started with SS and then straight into the match.

Good Morning Dave .

Did You see we get all four games ?

I can't remember them doing that

No - we're not getting either match today on the box. Two Prem matches instead. Thank goodness for the on-line speakeasies.

I did see that Tony. I am glad the FA Cup is getting some love. Are they all on ITV?

I can't believe the winner of this match is in the semi final and going to Wembley!
Did you see they are relaying the pitch again??
What a palaver!!

7:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I saw two somewhat interesting things yesterday

#1 I saw good old Max Bretos on ESPN News yesterday. He must have left FSC for ESPN. Wonder if he moved for the World Cup?

#2 I read in Newspaper that ESPN2 are going 24 hours soccer before the first match of the World Cup and ABC are expecting big ratings for the USA England match

7:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Thanks for asking, Dave:

We've got a relatively easy home match against Brentford. Three points a must there.

Norwich are at home to Yeovil. Three points for them there.

Here's where it gets interesting. Charlton are at home to woeful Stockport and Colchester aren't playing today. And then Huddersfield are away to Gillingham and Swindon are at home to Bristol Rovers. Should be an interesting day.

7:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I hate that the FA Cup has not had much press... it's the QUARTER FINALS!!

I heard they are discussing playing the games Midweek to make them more relevant. How would that be?

7:52 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The other interesting aspect of ESPN2 World Cup coverage is that they've grabbed up Martin Tyler for the commentary. I hope he's bringing Andy Gray with him.

7:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Brown and Boyer have some handbags

7:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Also, ABC and ESPN crews will actually be at the venues for the matches

7:54 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Have you had any luck finding the new Fox Soccer Channel, Dave?

7:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am pleased that ESPN are actually making a big deal about Tyler commentating.

7:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I don't quite see why this is such a high-stakes match for Pompey. It doesn't change anything for them in they get through to even the Cup Final.

8:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nearly half an hour gone now. Pompey have had the better of the match but precious few chances or decent footie as of yet.

8:03 AM
Blogger Chelskilad said...

The only thing that makes a difference

is the prize money for each round .

8:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I can see that, Tony. But it's surely not enough to clear their debts, right?

8:12 AM
Blogger Chelskilad said...

No , but it might pay the players for

another week or two . Things are that

bad .

8:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am now really have to take Matt to Tiddlywinks

Coming to the end of the first half now. Lots of Cup blood and thunder. Very little product though.

8:21 AM

8:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

PLAY UP POMPEY!!

8:45 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's the "other" second son.

8:48 AM
Blogger Chelskilad said...

WHAT ???

8:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I suppose a replay would give Pompey some extra revenue from their share of the gate receipts and the ITV telly money. That's something. Might keep David James in hairbands for another week.

8:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Pompey knocking on the door now.

8:51 AM
Blogger Chelskilad said...

8:54 AM

I don't believe you Tony!

9:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ridgewell is claiming that he's nodded it over the line. It certainly looked like that on the replay but the ref isn't having any of it. It's definitely Pompey's day.

Still 2-0.

Leeds team news for today's match:

Richard Naylor is out through suspension, so Leigh Bromby pushes into the middle and his place is taken by Aidan White. Otherwise, pretty much a full strength side with Howson and Doyle pushing through the middle, Becchio and Beckford up front and Snoddy and McSheffrey providing width. New boy Paul Dickov on the bench.

Bolton 0-1.

I still think he has scored in all three decades too

Huddersfield have conceded a goal

10:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Tranmere 1-0 up on the Saints. Soton seem unable to build any kind of campaign toward a play-off spot.

10:12 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I stand corrected. That Bolton goal was a free header. Comparatively, Burnley's chance was well policed.

10:12 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Gillingham have taken the lead against Huddersfield, so they're not taking advantage of Swindon's loss.

And Charlton have benefited from an own goal. They're 1-0 up and now only two points behind us. I'm not happy with that at all.

10:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Struth... Bolton are two up!!

10:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Elmander nearly glanced in a header in the near post from a long throw.

And that's #2 for Bolton. What is happening to the Hammers defense!

0-2 Bolton!

It's the Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere with the Bolton goal there.

10:16 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Walcott = Ouda Allason.

Bags of pace, but no final product. I'm losing faith. He's had two clear chances to simply square the ball to first Nasri, and then Fabregas. Under no pressure, he puts both behind our guy's run, straight to a Burnley defender.

1-0 at the half. They're really hanging crepe over Fabregas and his injury. I didn't see what happened to him, but I hope this is precautionary.

Picture on Soccernet shows a picture of the Arsenal players before the match. They are all wearing a t-shirt saying Get Well Aaron

I wouldn't know about recalling Wilshire. It wouldn't completely surprise me if he didn't return and we cashed in on his potential.

We've got Fran Merida who could fill in if necessary. Keeping Diaby fit will be key if Fabregas is out for any amount of time.

Kick-off in the second half at Upton Park. The Hammers have a big hole to dig out of.

Dyer nearly in there for the Hammers. He seems to have gone all Yakuza with the tattoos these days.

Sounds like Theo's just stuck one on Bendtner's head but the big Dane has put it wide. Nearly 2-0 there for the Gunners.

JB has had a shot stopped by the tubby Brentford keeper. Early chance there for our top scorer.

In the first minute of the second half, Nik again misses a sitter.

He and Theo took a right kicking from the studio commentary team. Nik described as not quality enough for the Premiership. Unfair, but he needs to finish those.

Thank you, mate! Any advice on the lucky Leeds shirt? I just gave it a well-needed wash the other day.

Jesus! How do you bash a ball over the bar from 6 yards? Ask Nik. What a 'mare he's having

Andy Hughes has limped off for Leeds to be replaced by big Lubomir Michalik.

Ridiculous! Burnley recover a hoofed clearance. It bounces past Silvestre who watches Nugent score.
