We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Really, Dave? You want to punish yourself with another match like 1999, where United is 1-0 down for almost 90 minutes and then pulls it out in extra time? I'm not sure that your middle-aged heart can take it!

Teams in the tunnel coming out onto the pitch now. I've got a decent link through P2P, although it's in German.
Good news for United - no Arjen Robben to deal with. Franck Ribery does come back in after injury but it's a depleted Bayern side with no Pigsticker either.
Rooney does play tonight alongside Nani and Park up front, Fletch, Carrick and Scholes in the middle and Vidic and Rio anchoring the back four.
That's better. I've got Martin and Andy doing the commentary now.

The Phantom of the Opera guy goes into hard on Nani and gives away an early free kick to United out wide right.
GOAL! Bloody hell - it's Rooney again. A controlled volley from abotu two yards out. And United are 0-1 up already after less than two minutes!
A dream start for United!
That's #34 for the season for Rooney. What would they do without him? A crucial away goal already.
The Bayern crowd were in full roar in the opening minutes but not so much anymore. Much more muted response for obvious reasons.
United have never won a two-legged European fixture against a German side but they're off to a flier here.
The game hasn't really found its rhythm yet. Bayern have really been rocked back on their heels by Roon's early goal and they're finding it difficult to respond. United honestly don't need to push it much at this point. They'd be more than happy to take a 0-1 back to Old Trafford.
Nani's causing all sorts of problems for the Bayern defenders out wide right.
A moment of minor panic at the United back there but VDS cleared well in the end.
So 15 minutes gone and it's all going rather swimmmingly for United at the moment. Bayern really haven't had a sniff yet.
That Rooney goal is still the only strike so far in a day full of footer.
Nani was nearly in there but scuffed his left foot shot.
Scholes gets a bollocking for a typical Scholesy tackle, almost waist high. No booking yet, though.
Bayern starting to put some passes together now. Still no cutting edge but United's midfield will have to start breaking things up a bit more.
VDS jumps in ahead of Olic. Awkward but meat and drink for the keeper.
Ooooh - Nani crosses, it's deflected and jumps off the top of the bar. Close call.
Great ball in from Ribery but Altintop couldn't latch onto it.
There's a danger sign. The Neviller was completely burned for pace by Ribery and put a dangerous cross over that VDS was forced to punch. United need to get the momentum back.

Half an hour gone now. Still no word from the United boys on the LOB, but I'm sure they'll be pleased by the scoreline when they see it.

Heya, Dave! I was just wondering where you were. Very early goal but United have somewhat allowed Bayern to play themselves back into it. A few danger signs in the past ten minutes. But you could definitely see Roon scoring another (or two) on the break as well. My boy Nani has been excellent!

Sorry, mate. That sounds like a cruel ending to the match. Still, I fancy United to go through given they have the away goal and have Fortress Old Trafford in the second leg.
