Morning, MUR! Thanks for posting the thread. I've taken the liberty of attaching an image to it. Hope you approve. Looking forward to this morning's clash.

We have another example of what The Guardian has dubbed "Playstation Football," where a team racks up a cricket score against another, this morning. On the heels of Arsenal's 5-0 drubbing of Blackpool, who in turn hammered Wigan 4-0 last weekend, and Chelski's 6-0 mullering of Wigan, Newcastle are currently 5-0 up on Villa - 3-0 winners at home to West Ham last weekend. What is going on in the Premiership this season?

10:24 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The image is excellent!!! Ta very much. I attempted to add an image, but was unsuccessful. I noticed that Newcastle United is defeating Villa 4-0. I did not expect that.

10:24 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Just a reminder - United will need to knock Fulham for ten goals today to surpass Chelski's +12 GD so far.

10:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I need to update.WOW!!! I did not expect a 5-0 score. I it is the haves vs the have nots.Perhaps, some teams are not good enough to be in the EPL.

Hey guys.... FIVE NIL!!

STRUTH!!

Nice image!

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Some teams not good enough? I see what you mean by WBA and Wigan but Villa beaten by a promoted team!!!

10:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

As much as I believe in United, I do not see them scoring ten at the Cottage. They are tough at home and Hughes will want to prove something to us. Chelski played two of the strugglers. Let's see how they do against a decent team. With our luck, Martinez will be gone by the time we play Wigan.

Andy Carroll completes his hat-trick. The Magpies have matched Chelsea and Arsenal!

I agree. I guess the Toon are for real. That makes our victory on Monday that much more impressive. We beat a decent comfortably, not one of the relegation candidates.

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Where is Rooney?
Not an injury?

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well said... maybe we will score ten!

10:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW!!! It is rare for a newly promoted team to score like that so early in the season.

10:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That does seem a strange result. I expect Newcastle to be able to survive in the Premiership because they have a fearsome home support at St. James's but I don't expect them to knock decent mid-level sides for six! And only a week after Villa looked so impressive against the Hammers (and in mid-week in the Europa). Weird.

Did Rooney get the Fergie "boot in the eye" treatment after last weekend's performance?

10:33 AM

Apologies from me too
Good morning BD and MUR

Sheffield United rock bottom of the Championship - me likey!

10:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That is the third 6-0 score this weekend and the fourth of this young season. I believe this occurs on a regular basis in the Eredivise.

10:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I wonder if there has been a falling out OR is Fergie just taking a calculated dropping

10:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, lads!

10:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Me like too. May the Blades continue to struggle.

10:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

You lot don't have anything mid-week, do you?

10:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am not sure why Roon was dropped. I would guess that it was a drop due to his performance, but you never know.

10:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nope. It is just Europe
Again, I said last week that I was surprised that there are NO midweek Prem games until November

10:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spurs did make an incredible comeback against Young Boys. They are still in it. I thought they were out once they went 0-3 down.

10:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Toon won 6-0. EVERY scorer was English and Crew missed a penalty two minutes before Joey Barton put Newcastle 1-0 up. That must have been an incredible match.

10:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well, this is the perfect opportunity to show that United aren't as dependent on Rooney as they were last season.

I still can't stop thinking about that Blackburn match. All we needed to do was put one of those chances and we would have been Champions!

10:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yep - I reckon that Spurs will go through to the group stage and that all three Europa League sides will go through as well. Liverpool are the only ones in a spot of bother.

10:42 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Morning lads,

It's early enough in the season that I'm hoping that Man U absolutely hammer Fulham today. 10-0, that would be sweet. Something to teach Sparky a lesson and to lower the axe incrementally down upon him.

I'll have to dash away before the end. For some reason, our match against the Union is at 2pm and the trains are all bollixed up going that direction.

10:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well - if Chicharito really turns it on today, it's going to be difficult for Rooney to get his spot back in the side. That would then put his England spot in jeopardy. Is Rooney the new Michael Owen?

10:43 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Spurs probably will advance to the group stage. I hope they get Barca, Lyon, and Munich in their first round group.

10:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning Gooner. I second that. I wish DC well against the Union.

10:44 AM

Rumor Central

Manchester United are planning a £15m bid for Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon next summer as current number one Edwin van der Sar prepares for retirement.

Real boss Mourinho is ready to launch a £20m move for Adebayor, which may free up Real striker Karim Benzema to join Manchester United.

10:44 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Rooney is going to be the new Gazza if he's not careful.

10:45 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, Gooner!

10:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rooney is looking the part,BD. Each newly promoted side has won a match two games in to the season. I did not expect that, and two of those sides have scored six and four goals in a match. That is unusual for newly promoted sides.

10:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm not sure United need a Benzema. The real holes that you need to fill are at goalkeeper and center back with VDS and Rio getting older.

Buffon is a smart move. At 32, you could easily get five years out of him.

10:47 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Thanks Davy. It's all over for DC bar the shouting. I almost wonder if the management behind the team is willfully tanking things so that they can up sticks and go to another town where they can get a new stadium. It's been rumored that Baltimore would welcome them and there's lots of spare ground around the stadia that the Orioles and Ravens play at.

10:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

By the way, after Wigan yesterday, Chelski's next two opponents are Stoke and West Ham, not coincidentally the other two sides along with Wigan in the dropzone with nil points. Anyone else smell an FA conspiracy?

10:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

D.C. United to Baltimore?! Perish the thought!

10:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Football 365 is reporting that Rooney's absence is due to a "stomach upset." Late night kebab with Rod Stewart?

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good morning Gooner
Thanks for the well wishes today

10:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Glad to hear he is sick and not that him and Fergie have done a Beckham!

DC need a new stadium. A lot of other teams have soccer only stadiums. RFK is huge and not right for the MLS

10:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What would RFK be used for if D.C. United left? I don't think it has any other clients, right?

10:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Did SAF have anything to do with the stomach problems? Becks had an optical problem when he ticked off SAF.

10:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a ridiculous start for Chelsea!
You forgot to mention their match after West Ham... Blackpool at home!!
FINALLY on SEPTEMBER 25 they have to go to the City of Manchester Stadium!
What will their goal difference be when they go up North? Goals for 30 goals against 0

10:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How far is Baltimore from DC?

10:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It should be taken down. Giants Stadium, Shea and Yankee Stadium are all gone!

10:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

COME ON UNITED!!! (Manchester not DC)

11:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree,UWS. They may have trouble adjusting to playing real EPL opponents. It may back fire on Chelski.

11:00 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Surely Vidic could kadoomph the ball into the Thames today

11:01 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wow, United would be, along with Chelsea, the only 100% teams after TWO games with a win

11:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

When the ball hits your head and you're sat in Row Z...that's Zamora!

La la la

11:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And United get us underway at the Cottage.

11:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

My daughter and I observed that. We begin as United begin their quest for victory along the River Thames.

11:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Anyone taking wagers on the minute that Paul Scholes picks up a yellow card for a rash tackle back in midfield? I'm going 52nd minute.

11:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

This stadium is not designed for route 1 football. I am sure plenty of balls have landed in the river over the years.

11:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Late, clumsy challenge from John Pantsil there on Park.

11:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pantsil should have been booked. He did not have any intentions of going for the ball.

11:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Simon Davies with an interesting and ambitious overhead attempt there. Not quite ready for the Olympics gymnastics tournament.

11:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good steady start from United. Nice possession

11:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

VDS played several seasons at the Cottage.

11:07 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am surprised that Giggs didn't get the start

11:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

United have jumped into third place after having merely kicked off here. The top of the Premiership has an ominous look to it:

Chelski
Arse
United

If Liverpool were to win at Citeh tomorrow, they'd slide into fourth.

11:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zamora is down holding his head. He is back up.

11:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Giggs only has about twenty minutes in him before he needs to return to the bath chair for a bowl of porridge.

11:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

And only two games into the season.

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am ignoring BD's Gigg comment!
I don't like what FSC do with the sound of the crowd. They seem to drown it out!

11:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice interplay there between Park and Drac.

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great passing by United there!

11:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United win a corner after Park won the ball of Pantsil.

11:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

You're ignoring me because you know I'm right, UWS.

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great attempt by Berba and great save. Keep it up Dimi

11:12 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great save from Stockdale from Drac. Chicharito set up that chance with a lovely knock down.

11:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What a rocket from Scholes!

11:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCHOLES THUNDERBOLT!!!!!!!!!!

All from a short corner... I luv em

11:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nearly 1-0. Stockdale brilliantly tips over a volley from Drac!

GOAL 1-0 AS SCHLOES SCORES FROM THE CORNER!!!

11:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice lay off by Berbatov

11:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dempsey takes a pop but Green isn't in goal this time

11:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Simon Davies has a half chance on the edge of the area but it wouldn't come down for him.

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Keep it tight

11:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Davies shoots just over.

11:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

9 more to go for United today.

11:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was a textbook example of how to execute a short corner. What a way for Scholes to score his 150th goal for United.

11:16 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What do make of those comments about Scholes v. Carrick?

11:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Carrick isn't getting a sniff lately
He was our best player a few years back

11:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United are really passing well and look hungry on a difficult pitch against a REAL opponent.

11:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oooh - Chicharito close to finding the bottom corner. Still finding his range.

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Another great set of passing by United

Seven losses last season! I can't believe that we lost the league by one point

11:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with UWS regarding Carrick. Just wide by Hernandez. I hope he opens his goal scoring account today.

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I beat Ian Stark to the Green comment

11:20 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

United bossing the midfield now. What is Danny Murphy playing at?

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Chelski received some help from the ref in their EPL matches against us. I would say that we could have won the title if the decisions against Chelski had gone our way.

11:20 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well in there, UWS!

11:21 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The announcer stated that Danny Murphy is supposed to be marking Scholes. I don't see it.

11:21 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Arsenal are linked with Stecklenberg. If he featured in their playoff match on Tuesday like he did, wouldn't that rule him out of CL group games?

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I want another goal to cement our dominance

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

70% possession.... You're supposed to be at home!

11:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Stecklenberg would be a great pick up, even if you'd lose him for the CL matches.

11:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We have 70% of the possession. That shows how well United are keeping the ball.

11:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Stockdale beats down another Dracula shot.

11:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great play by Fletch to win the ball... shame

11:24 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Stockdale saves from Drac after Aaron Hughes lost the ball.

11:24 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I don't really get where Clint thinks he's playing today.

11:24 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I really like how Chicharito always looks like he wants to pull the trigger when he gets the ball. Very direct.

11:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We do need a comprehensive victory to keep up with those teams that are running up the score.

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well done Z

11:25 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Rubbish header from Zamora. Why on earth is he even sniffing around the England set up?

11:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zamora heads wide after a great cross by Konchesky.

11:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Of course, FSC are behind the Beeb!

I don't like United's tracksuits.... from the 70s! I like the shirts. I wore mine yesterday... looked lovely!

11:27 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Agreed, UWS. The new United shirt looks like it would be really handy for washing the car.

11:28 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Murphy with a shot into the Thames.

11:29 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We finally saw Murphy. Did that end up in the river?

11:29 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Drac shoots at Stockdale off of the goal kick.

11:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Zamora goes down really easily under the challenge of Evans. Nothing doing from the ref.

11:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Drac heads just over the bar.

11:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Headed just over from Drac after great passing from United. Drac has really been involved today.

11:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Good possession there from Fulham leading to a good chance for Etuhu. Great double save from VDS!

11:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

VDS keeps us in the lead as he saves twice from Etuhu

11:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We need a second !!

11:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I think United are good for 0-2 or 0-3 here. Fulham are flattering to deceive now.

11:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Chicharito nearly latches onto a near post ball from Park.

11:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree BD. we need to take advantage of our opportunities because Etuhu just demonstrated what can happen if we don't do so.

11:36 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Capello in the stands with Hugh Grant!

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hugh Grant and Capello!!!

11:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am not sure how Bobby Z was so brilliant for England. That is not what I observed.

11:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Where did UWS bugger off to - walking the dog? During a United match? Fifty demerits for you, son!

11:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Would Hugh Grant do any worse?

11:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I reckon that Zamora slipped Ian Darke a tenner before the match. There's no other reason for his comments today.

11:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I missed the double save... in the loo... Fulham have come back into it... we should be out of sight!

11:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Good point, MUR. I'm not sure that they should swap roles, though. I wouldn't want to see Don Fabio in the next rom com with Sandra Bullock.

11:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Valencia should have had a pop himself

11:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Chelski were only 0-1 ahead at halftime yesterday. There is still plenty of time to score more goals. DO BETTER DRAC!!!

11:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

No comment from you, UWS, on my suggestion that the United kit is good for washing the car? I thought that was one of my better efforts!

11:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Sandra Bullock agrees with you BD.

11:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Valencia picks up a yellow card for a scything tackle on Davies.

11:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I would use the Leeds kit. Since it is white, you can determine how dirty the car is.

11:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Scholes building up to his 52nd minute booking there with a sharp one on Murphy.

11:42 AM

11:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another poor header from Bobby Z.

11:43 AM

Scholes and Murphy know each other from the United vs Liverpool rivalry.

11:44 AM

We did score off of a short corner today.

11:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nearly half time now. I think Fergie will be satisfied with 0-1 at this stage. You're right, MUR, that Chelski were able to explode in the second half in both of their matches so far.

11:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What was that from Vidic!!!

11:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think 0-1 is an accurate reflection of how much we have dominated. I would like to see us dominate like we did earlier in the match.

11:47 AM
