Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, MUR! Thanks for posting the thread. I've taken the liberty of attaching an image to it. Hope you approve. Looking forward to this morning's clash.
We have another example of what The Guardian has dubbed "Playstation Football," where a team racks up a cricket score against another, this morning. On the heels of Arsenal's 5-0 drubbing of Blackpool, who in turn hammered Wigan 4-0 last weekend, and Chelski's 6-0 mullering of Wigan, Newcastle are currently 5-0 up on Villa - 3-0 winners at home to West Ham last weekend. What is going on in the Premiership this season?
The image is excellent!!! Ta very much. I attempted to add an image, but was unsuccessful. I noticed that Newcastle United is defeating Villa 4-0. I did not expect that.
Just a reminder - United will need to knock Fulham for ten goals today to surpass Chelski's +12 GD so far.
I need to update.WOW!!! I did not expect a 5-0 score. I it is the haves vs the have nots.Perhaps, some teams are not good enough to be in the EPL.
Hey guys.... FIVE NIL!!
STRUTH!!
Nice image!
Some teams not good enough? I see what you mean by WBA and Wigan but Villa beaten by a promoted team!!!
As much as I believe in United, I do not see them scoring ten at the Cottage. They are tough at home and Hughes will want to prove something to us. Chelski played two of the strugglers. Let's see how they do against a decent team. With our luck, Martinez will be gone by the time we play Wigan.
Andy Carroll completes his hat-trick. The Magpies have matched Chelsea and Arsenal!
6-0!!!
Final result
1523: FULHAM v MANCHESTER UNITED LINE-UPS
Fulham: Stockdale, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Duff, Murphy, Etuhu, Davies, Dempsey, Zamora.
Subs: Zuberbuhler, Kelly, Baird, Gera, Riise, Greening, Dembele.
Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Vidic, Jonathan Evans, Evra, Valencia, Fletcher, Scholes, Park, Hernandez, Berbatov.
Subs: Kuszczak, Owen, Giggs, Smalling, Carrick, Nani, Rafael Da Silva.
I agree. I guess the Toon are for real. That makes our victory on Monday that much more impressive. We beat a decent comfortably, not one of the relegation candidates.
Where is Rooney?
Not an injury?
Well said... maybe we will score ten!
WOW!!! It is rare for a newly promoted team to score like that so early in the season.
That does seem a strange result. I expect Newcastle to be able to survive in the Premiership because they have a fearsome home support at St. James's but I don't expect them to knock decent mid-level sides for six! And only a week after Villa looked so impressive against the Hammers (and in mid-week in the Europa). Weird.
Where are mu manners? Good morning BD and UWS.
Boro beat Speed's new team 1-0
The Blades are struggling.. that will please our Leeds boy
Did Rooney get the Fergie "boot in the eye" treatment after last weekend's performance?
Apologies from me too
Good morning BD and MUR
Sheffield United rock bottom of the Championship - me likey!
That is the third 6-0 score this weekend and the fourth of this young season. I believe this occurs on a regular basis in the Eredivise.
I wonder if there has been a falling out OR is Fergie just taking a calculated dropping
Morning, lads!
Me like too. May the Blades continue to struggle.
You lot don't have anything mid-week, do you?
I am not sure why Roon was dropped. I would guess that it was a drop due to his performance, but you never know.
Nope. It is just Europe
Again, I said last week that I was surprised that there are NO midweek Prem games until November
Spurs did make an incredible comeback against Young Boys. They are still in it. I thought they were out once they went 0-3 down.
The Toon won 6-0. EVERY scorer was English and Crew missed a penalty two minutes before Joey Barton put Newcastle 1-0 up. That must have been an incredible match.
Well, this is the perfect opportunity to show that United aren't as dependent on Rooney as they were last season.
I still can't stop thinking about that Blackburn match. All we needed to do was put one of those chances and we would have been Champions!
Yep - I reckon that Spurs will go through to the group stage and that all three Europa League sides will go through as well. Liverpool are the only ones in a spot of bother.
Morning lads,
It's early enough in the season that I'm hoping that Man U absolutely hammer Fulham today. 10-0, that would be sweet. Something to teach Sparky a lesson and to lower the axe incrementally down upon him.
I'll have to dash away before the end. For some reason, our match against the Union is at 2pm and the trains are all bollixed up going that direction.
Well - if Chicharito really turns it on today, it's going to be difficult for Rooney to get his spot back in the side. That would then put his England spot in jeopardy. Is Rooney the new Michael Owen?
Spurs probably will advance to the group stage. I hope they get Barca, Lyon, and Munich in their first round group.
Good morning Gooner. I second that. I wish DC well against the Union.
Rumor Central
Manchester United are planning a £15m bid for Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon next summer as current number one Edwin van der Sar prepares for retirement.
Real boss Mourinho is ready to launch a £20m move for Adebayor, which may free up Real striker Karim Benzema to join Manchester United.
Rooney is going to be the new Gazza if he's not careful.
Morning, Gooner!
Rooney is looking the part,BD. Each newly promoted side has won a match two games in to the season. I did not expect that, and two of those sides have scored six and four goals in a match. That is unusual for newly promoted sides.
I'm not sure United need a Benzema. The real holes that you need to fill are at goalkeeper and center back with VDS and Rio getting older.
Buffon is a smart move. At 32, you could easily get five years out of him.
Thanks Davy. It's all over for DC bar the shouting. I almost wonder if the management behind the team is willfully tanking things so that they can up sticks and go to another town where they can get a new stadium. It's been rumored that Baltimore would welcome them and there's lots of spare ground around the stadia that the Orioles and Ravens play at.
By the way, after Wigan yesterday, Chelski's next two opponents are Stoke and West Ham, not coincidentally the other two sides along with Wigan in the dropzone with nil points. Anyone else smell an FA conspiracy?
D.C. United to Baltimore?! Perish the thought!
Football 365 is reporting that Rooney's absence is due to a "stomach upset." Late night kebab with Rod Stewart?
Good morning Gooner
Thanks for the well wishes today
Glad to hear he is sick and not that him and Fergie have done a Beckham!
DC need a new stadium. A lot of other teams have soccer only stadiums. RFK is huge and not right for the MLS
What would RFK be used for if D.C. United left? I don't think it has any other clients, right?
Did SAF have anything to do with the stomach problems? Becks had an optical problem when he ticked off SAF.
What a ridiculous start for Chelsea!
You forgot to mention their match after West Ham... Blackpool at home!!
FINALLY on SEPTEMBER 25 they have to go to the City of Manchester Stadium!
What will their goal difference be when they go up North? Goals for 30 goals against 0
How far is Baltimore from DC?
It should be taken down. Giants Stadium, Shea and Yankee Stadium are all gone!
COME ON UNITED!!! (Manchester not DC)
I agree,UWS. They may have trouble adjusting to playing real EPL opponents. It may back fire on Chelski.
Surely Vidic could kadoomph the ball into the Thames today
Wow, United would be, along with Chelsea, the only 100% teams after TWO games with a win
When the ball hits your head and you're sat in Row Z...that's Zamora!
La la la
And United get us underway at the Cottage.
My daughter and I observed that. We begin as United begin their quest for victory along the River Thames.
Anyone taking wagers on the minute that Paul Scholes picks up a yellow card for a rash tackle back in midfield? I'm going 52nd minute.
This stadium is not designed for route 1 football. I am sure plenty of balls have landed in the river over the years.
Late, clumsy challenge from John Pantsil there on Park.
Pantsil should have been booked. He did not have any intentions of going for the ball.
Simon Davies with an interesting and ambitious overhead attempt there. Not quite ready for the Olympics gymnastics tournament.
Good steady start from United. Nice possession
VDS played several seasons at the Cottage.
I am surprised that Giggs didn't get the start
United have jumped into third place after having merely kicked off here. The top of the Premiership has an ominous look to it:
Chelski
Arse
United
If Liverpool were to win at Citeh tomorrow, they'd slide into fourth.
Zamora is down holding his head. He is back up.
Giggs only has about twenty minutes in him before he needs to return to the bath chair for a bowl of porridge.
And only two games into the season.
I am ignoring BD's Gigg comment!
I don't like what FSC do with the sound of the crowd. They seem to drown it out!
Nice interplay there between Park and Drac.
Great passing by United there!
United win a corner after Park won the ball of Pantsil.
You're ignoring me because you know I'm right, UWS.
Great attempt by Berba and great save. Keep it up Dimi
Oh - great save from Stockdale from Drac. Chicharito set up that chance with a lovely knock down.
What a rocket from Scholes!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SCHOLES THUNDERBOLT!!!!!!!!!!
All from a short corner... I luv em
Nearly 1-0. Stockdale brilliantly tips over a volley from Drac!
GOAL 1-0 AS SCHLOES SCORES FROM THE CORNER!!!
Nice lay off by Berbatov
Dempsey takes a pop but Green isn't in goal this time
Oh - Simon Davies has a half chance on the edge of the area but it wouldn't come down for him.
Keep it tight
Davies shoots just over.
9 more to go for United today.
That was a textbook example of how to execute a short corner. What a way for Scholes to score his 150th goal for United.
What do make of those comments about Scholes v. Carrick?
Carrick isn't getting a sniff lately
He was our best player a few years back
United are really passing well and look hungry on a difficult pitch against a REAL opponent.
Oooh - Chicharito close to finding the bottom corner. Still finding his range.
Another great set of passing by United
Seven losses last season! I can't believe that we lost the league by one point
I agree with UWS regarding Carrick. Just wide by Hernandez. I hope he opens his goal scoring account today.
I beat Ian Stark to the Green comment
United bossing the midfield now. What is Danny Murphy playing at?
Chelski received some help from the ref in their EPL matches against us. I would say that we could have won the title if the decisions against Chelski had gone our way.
Well in there, UWS!
The announcer stated that Danny Murphy is supposed to be marking Scholes. I don't see it.
Arsenal are linked with Stecklenberg. If he featured in their playoff match on Tuesday like he did, wouldn't that rule him out of CL group games?
I want another goal to cement our dominance
70% possession.... You're supposed to be at home!
Stecklenberg would be a great pick up, even if you'd lose him for the CL matches.
We have 70% of the possession. That shows how well United are keeping the ball.
Stockdale beats down another Dracula shot.
Great play by Fletch to win the ball... shame
Stockdale saves from Drac after Aaron Hughes lost the ball.
I don't really get where Clint thinks he's playing today.
I really like how Chicharito always looks like he wants to pull the trigger when he gets the ball. Very direct.
We do need a comprehensive victory to keep up with those teams that are running up the score.
Well done Z
Rubbish header from Zamora. Why on earth is he even sniffing around the England set up?
Zamora heads wide after a great cross by Konchesky.
Of course, FSC are behind the Beeb!
I don't like United's tracksuits.... from the 70s! I like the shirts. I wore mine yesterday... looked lovely!
Agreed, UWS. The new United shirt looks like it would be really handy for washing the car.
Murphy with a shot into the Thames.
We finally saw Murphy. Did that end up in the river?
Drac shoots at Stockdale off of the goal kick.
Zamora goes down really easily under the challenge of Evans. Nothing doing from the ref.
Oh - Drac heads just over the bar.
Headed just over from Drac after great passing from United. Drac has really been involved today.
Good possession there from Fulham leading to a good chance for Etuhu. Great double save from VDS!
VDS keeps us in the lead as he saves twice from Etuhu
We need a second !!
I think United are good for 0-2 or 0-3 here. Fulham are flattering to deceive now.
Chicharito nearly latches onto a near post ball from Park.
I agree BD. we need to take advantage of our opportunities because Etuhu just demonstrated what can happen if we don't do so.
Capello in the stands with Hugh Grant!
Hugh Grant and Capello!!!
I am not sure how Bobby Z was so brilliant for England. That is not what I observed.
Where did UWS bugger off to - walking the dog? During a United match? Fifty demerits for you, son!
Would Hugh Grant do any worse?
I reckon that Zamora slipped Ian Darke a tenner before the match. There's no other reason for his comments today.
I missed the double save... in the loo... Fulham have come back into it... we should be out of sight!
Good point, MUR. I'm not sure that they should swap roles, though. I wouldn't want to see Don Fabio in the next rom com with Sandra Bullock.
Valencia should have had a pop himself
Chelski were only 0-1 ahead at halftime yesterday. There is still plenty of time to score more goals. DO BETTER DRAC!!!
No comment from you, UWS, on my suggestion that the United kit is good for washing the car? I thought that was one of my better efforts!
I think Sandra Bullock agrees with you BD.
Valencia picks up a yellow card for a scything tackle on Davies.
I would use the Leeds kit. Since it is white, you can determine how dirty the car is.
Scholes building up to his 52nd minute booking there with a sharp one on Murphy.
Touche, MUR!
Another poor header from Bobby Z.
Bobby has a head like a 50 pence piece. You never know what direction the ball's going to end up in.
Scholes and Murphy know each other from the United vs Liverpool rivalry.
Chicharito draws a foul from Hangeland who's having a tricky time with the Mexican. Short one, which UWS would not appreciate if he were watching the game.
Jonny Evans heads straight at Stockdale.
Has Fulham been that much better where they deserve to be level... I don't think so!
We did score off of a short corner today.
Nearly half time now. I think Fergie will be satisfied with 0-1 at this stage. You're right, MUR, that Chelski were able to explode in the second half in both of their matches so far.
What was that from Vidic!!!
I think 0-1 is an accurate reflection of how much we have dominated. I would like to see us dominate like we did earlier in the match.
Dempsey shot over.
Not sure what happened there with Vidic? Crick in his neck?
The ball hit him... how did that hurt!
One minute of stoppage time. Vidic is down. That is a weird one.
We should have had another one
Ian Darke... get off the Fulham bandwagon!!
Half time
Happy but could have had more!
Halftime and 0-1 to United. I would like to see us score several in the second half .
What a hammer by Barton for Newcastle!
Man Citeh host Liverpool at 3 PM tomorrow on ESPN 2. I have one brother who is a Citeh fan and one who is a Liverpool fan.
My REAL son Tom is a United fan
But Matt likes Citeh and Jonathan likes Liverpool!!!
I agree UWS. Great finishing by Carroll, but shocking Villa defending. They also conceded seven at the Bridge. What is wrong with Villa or should we say Vanilla?
A good half time listen
Shame Scholsey has a Nigel Tuffnell lip problem!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8933749.stm
I will not be able to join LOB tomorrow as it will be my first day teaching . The match is set to record.
GOOD JOB TOM !!!
SAF dropped Roon after a poor performance. Cap should have done the same in South Africa.
Scholes...'the best club... no brainer"
I love him
That is obvious.
Great interview!!! I am still watching it
"bored with winning trophies, winning every week, well most weeks!"
The second half is underway.
I am stopping the interview until the end of the match. Liking it so far!
I meant Scholes.
Fulham kicks off the second half.
Sounds like an excellent interview. I noticed that you posted the site. Thanks for the info.
Every Fulham player is wearing new shirts!!
Berbatov should have done something better with that
Good start
United win a corner after opening the half with some excellent passing.
Make sure you listen. I am only 3 minutes into 9... loving so far
The corner from Valencia is cleared by Zamora.
Scholes almost in again!
Hangeland blocks from Scholes after great United passing Davies see his shot blocked for a corner.
Duff crosses to Aaron Hughes who heads well wide.
VDS goalkick was like my golf shot!
Ian Darke keeping up his love affair with Fulham F.C. in this second half.
Quit cheering for Fulham. Well today would would be a good day for him to score for Fulham. What is that rubbish?
Hopeless by O'Shea and Fulham had a chance there!
Corner cleared
Evans concedes a corner to what Ian Darke calls " The Cavalry" United clear the corner.
Free kick chance for Fulham.... River Thames please!
Scholes has past the 52nd minute mark but that latest nibble on Zamora brings his closer to the inevitable yellow card. It's only minutes away now.
Don't cheat... how many teams have been in the Prem every season... just give me a number
Schoels fouls Zamora. That is a promising position for a free kick.
Zamora shoots into the wall, then high and wide. The cavalry is firing blanks.
Luckily it was Zamora that shot twice
BLOODY HELL!!!
WHERE WAS THE MARKING!!
Sorry, chaps. Davies equalizes.
STRUTH!!! SIMON DAVIES SCORES OFF A PASS FROM ZAMORA. EVANS SHOULD HAVE CLEARED THAT.
Was a Fulham player impeding VDS in an offside position on that goal?
This is ridiculous! United should have well ahead!
COME ON UNITED!
Evra should have done better against Duff . I thought VDS should have saved that shot.
