Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Rooney "Plays Away from Home" shocker!

I'm not usually one to go trolling through the tabloids on a Sunday morning, but the story of ManYoo and England striker Wayne Rooney stepping out on missus Colleen with a prostitute who joined him in the United camp has real implications for Tuesday's clash in Switzerland. Will Rooney have his head right for the match or should he be dropped? Your thoughts, gents?

Here's the coverage in the Daily Mail:

They are all idiots! Why can't people behave once they have money!
I wonder if this was his problem in SA?

This story is part and parcel of the sickness that affecting the England national team set-up right now. You've got a group (the so-called "Golden Generation") of pros from horrible places like, in Rooney's case, the council estates of Croxteth, who started making millions in their teenage years. They and their WAGS have been coddled by their clubs and a compliant press. The ridiculous nicknames are part of it. I was really dismayed to hear Joe Hart (probably soon to be known as "Hartsy") refer to Jermain Defoe as "JD" in his post-match interview with the BBC. It's got to stop.

Haven't we predicted that Rooney is likely to end up like Gazza has? IF, this is true, it's not a big surprise. Richard Pryor said it best. "Cocaine is God's way of saying you make too much money." God might be speaking to Wayne in the form of endless slappers.

The Nike ad he'll have to make will be must-see TV, if Tiger's was anything to go by. Might lose the "Just Do It" however.

This from Football 365 this morning:

"England coach Fabio Capello has confirmed Wayne Rooney will play in Tuesday night's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland despite recent allegations about the striker's private life."
