Champions League - Matchday 4
The Champions League group stages keep rolling on despite the fact that most of us have lost interest in them. The big sides have been mopping up the competition and now need only a point or two from their last three matches to successfully qualify for the knock-out stages. Still, it's another footie Tuesday and I'll be on the LOB monitoring the events and perhaps tossing in the occasional election prediction. Who knows? Just join me.

Here are this evening's fixtures:
Group A:
Spurs v. Inter
Werder v. FC Twente
Group B:
Benfica v. Lyon
Hapoel v. Shalke
Group C:
Bursapor v. Utd
Valencia v. Rangers
Group D:
Copenhagen v. Barca
Rubin Kazan v. Pana
No Championship matches today but we've got a full slate of npower D1 and D2 matches on board for some reason.
I've got a funny feeling that Spurs are going to mug Inter today. They've worked themselves up into a poorly thought-out frenzy of righteous indignation over the Nani goal and combined with the VDV-Sneijder twitter rivalry, I think they're well up for it.
It's a hard decision this afternoon. The Spurs v. Inter match is obviously the marquee match of the night and they had a humdinger at the San Siro last week. Still, I'm strangely curious about the United match in Turkey too. Hmmmm.....
Just reading through Paolo Bandini's wrap of Serie A action and ran across the story of Cassano effin' and blindin' the chairman over a command appearance at a charity dinner. Cassano climbed down afterwards and offered to take a pay cut to stay at Samp.
But the classic line is that during the time Capello was at Rome, Fabio called him Cassanoccio.
Afternoon, Gooner!
I can't make my mind up, so I've got the Spurs v. Inter match up on this one:

And I've got the Bursa v. Utd one on mute up through this one:

Nice one about Cassano. Love that dude!
Arsene is on Sky News now giving his two cents on the Mark Clattenburg decision in Utd. v. Spurs from the weekend. Why he feels that he has to weigh in on that one is anyone's guess.
Bugger - I've just realized that I've tried to tune in an hour early. Why can't Europe and the U.S. decide on Fall Back policy? We're six hours behind them now.
'ave another go at 'Arry!
He was probably asked the question, and he seldom dodges a question, tbf.
That makes a bit of sense. The Guardian's MBM isn't posted yet either. Thanks for the reminder.
WTF? Why aren't we synchronized with the rest of the world on this?
Here's the line-up for that match in Turkey tonight:
Bursaspor Ivankov, Tandogan, Erdogan, Ibrahim Ozturk, Wederson, Bahadir, Svensson, Ergic, Sen, Insua, Yildirim.
Man Utd Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Scholes, Carrick, Nani, Fletcher, Obertan, Berbatov.
Referee Wolfgang Stark (Germany)
And at Shite Fart:

Subs: Pletikosa, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko, Keane, Palacios, Bassong, Kranjcar

Subs: Oralndoni, Cordoba, Milito. Materazzi, Coutinho, Santon, Nwankwo

Kick-off time then!
Rubin Kazan and Pana have kicked off the evening with an uninspiring 0-0 draw. Hope there's better to come.
Call me Nosti, (short for Nostradamus), spuds are ahead through VDV, supplied by Modric.
Blimey - what a signing VDV has been. Well in there, Nosti!
Alan Kardec has given Benfica the lead against Lyon in the 20th minute.
What I don't get is that from the sound of it, Bales having another blinder. He only put 3 by them on their patch! If anyone deserves to be double marked, it's him.
Hey Guys
A very pedestrian performance in the first half
Not too happy.
The whistle is about to blow
Half time has been reached at WHL
1-0 to the Spurs
At the half in Turkey, Scoreless
Uh-oh. VDV has twanged his hamstring and is likely not to return from the locker room.
I want United to make a change for the second half
Hernandez on for Obertan in my book... don't think any changes have been made
Afternoon, Davey. How are you, mate!
I heard the VDV news from the Beeb
What link are you watching for the United match?
Not bad mate... not too pleased with my lot
The match at the Lane is much better.
We're off
I won't be able to stay til the end of these games. I have to teach and it ends too late with this clock change
2046: As feared, Rafael van der Vaart's night is over. Jermaine Jenas is on instead and the second half has just started.
Jermaine Jenas for Van der Vaart. Not much of a replacement, eh?
The bottom two leagues have matches today. Wonder why the Championship doesn't
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
FLETCHER NETS IT FOR UNITED!!!!
Finally some nice passing
Nani came off because of a groin injury... doubt for Wolves
The Turks get a shot on goal easily saved by VDS
I could really do with a Scottish goal in Spain
Sweet - well done, Fletch! I'm off home to grab a bite to eat.
Take care Bob
I am not liking Berba's body language... Berba of last season is back!
Garry Birtles agrees with me. He is saying how Berbatov has spent the evening complaining at his teammates
We have reached the hour mark.... Still not too impressed with United
Yes... Spurs have doubled their lead!!
Brilliant cross by Bale and put in by Crouchie
It was a great run by Bale again!! Surely one of the big guns will want to buy this lad
It was a great run by Bale again!! Surely one of the big guns will want to buy this lad
Give it up for Nosti!
Bale makes another one for Crouch but the ball went out of bounds before he crosses it
Again, United, dare I say, are boring!
Goal scorer, Fletcher, has been replaced by Bebe
United are not in too much trouble but still not impressive
Inter have been scored against 5 times without reply in the last two matches!
Benfica are FOUR up against group leading Lyon
I could do with another United goal in the next few minutes before I scarper
Bugger... Valencia have doubled their lead against Rangers
YES!!!!!!!!!
TWO NIL!!
Obertan doubles United's lead...nice finish!!
It's United time. Will that help? I am Nostradamus.
Crikey! I'm off to find a Lotto ticketer that's still open. I'm on a hot roll.
Well done Mate!!1
YES!!!
THREE NIL!!
BEBE!!!!!
Great pass by Scholes..nice finish!
With that goal... I am off to college
Take Care Steve
Cheerio.
Alright, Nosti - any predictions on tonight's election returns?
I didn't have a load of time for the Champions League matches today, unfortunately, but I'm back after my class reviewing the latest scores. We're just into the second half in most of them. Chelsea are drawing Spartak at the Bridge. Arsenal are 2-1 down in Donetsk. Roma and Bayern are both 0-2 up in their group matches. Marseille are running away with it 0-4 in Zilina. Real are pipping Milan 0-1 away.
