Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Blackburn and Villa have reached the half hour mark without incident. zzzz
Neither side is going to make much impact this season IMHO.
Good morning BD. I have watched the past ten minutes. I have not seen a single attempt on goal. It is really scrappy at Ewood Park.
Stephen Warnock is down injured holding his head after a clash with Spitty Diouf as the former Liversox players clash. Spitty should be a starter in your Villains XI.We hope Warnock will be okay.
Morning, MUR. Good to hear from you. Hope the anniversary weekend is going well for you and yours.
Yes , it is a great weekend. Thank You BD. I hope you have had a great weekend.
As I type, Morten Gamst Pedersen has fired Blackburn into the lead on the stroke of half-time. Villa drop to 13th; Blackburn leapfrog them to 11th.
Will you be watching the MLS Cup Final tonight? It's not the most sexy match-up given that the Red Bulls and Galaxy were knocked out earlier. But I'll be watching.
It is halftime and Blackburn lead 1-0 with a goal from a Mortem Gamst Pedersen free kick in the final seconds of the half from a really bizarre angle. Two former Rovers were at fault as Warnock fouled Spitty and Freidel made an uncharacteristic error by misjudging the cross from Pedersen. He completely missed the ball and it went in to the back of the net. David Pleat said Fredel was intimidated, but I disagree as it virtually impossible to intimidate Brad.He made a mistake.
I might watch the final. Perhaps we can blog the final.
Yes - I'll plan on it.
The second half is underway. Pascal Chimbonda is on as as a sub for Rovers. I am not sure whom he is replacing. I had forgotten about Pascal.
Ashley Young had two early chances. First , Robinson did well to beat away his powerful shot. Next, Downing crossed and Young saw his volley come off the bar.
Villa's only chance since the last comment was a free kick by Ashley Young that went into the wall after he was fouled by Salgado just outside the penalty area. Spitty said something to Young just before the free kick.
Sorry, I've been distracted by the Sunday paper and the crossword. Here's a question for you:
"Pueblo structures" (6 letters)
Any ideas?
The only thing that comes to mind is adobe, but that has five letters. I will put on my thinking cap.
Morning Fellas
I find a link just in time to see Rovers extend their lead
Spitty had a chance, as Jason Roberts won the ball in midfield from Ireland and put Spitty through. Dunne did well to put in a last ditch tackle.
adobes.... plural
Structures was the clue
Robert Pires is coming on for his Villa debut replacing Ireland... what a drop Ireland has had since leaving Citeh
Good morning, UWS. I missed the goal. Who scored?Well done with the crossword puzzle. I need to be a more careful reader.
Pires is on for Ireland as he makes his Villa debut.
The double goal scorer has had to go off for some reason. Pedersen has gone down the tunnel. Rovers are playing with ten at the moment
Cheers, lads. "Adobes" it is. I knew I could count on a Southwesterner.
Morning, UWS. How are you, mate. Thanks again for the tip on MOTM. I watched that and the Championship show on the same link.
Spitty should have made it three with a header at the back post
I watched MOTD but I had to leave as the Championship show started. How did Leeds look?
Spitty should have made it three as Salgado put in an excellent cross, but he headed wide from close range.
Nice reaction by Robbo after his save there
We looked a bit shaky at the back as usual. We could easily have lost that one at the death. Grant Holt had several good chances including a header off the post.
It's the 30th anniversary of the Dallas episode in which JR was shot. That really makes me feel old. I remember well watching that with the family at 4 Forest Way.
Nathan Delfuenoso is on for Gabby as Pires and Freidel are on with several youngsters such as Bannon,Hogg, Young ,and Delfuenoso.
I can't believe we can now see MotD!!!
I remember that episode.
30 years!!!!
I remember the nine o'clock news followed the episode and it was the opening story of the national news!!
It must have been the 30th anniversary in England. Surely it was shown in May over here at the end of the season
Another youngster is on as Herd is on for Hogg. Is this his debut? He makes an instant impact as his header from the corner is cleared off the line from Salgado.
Nice language caught by a microphone!
Clark is another young Villa player.
Pires doesn't look right in Claret and Blue
Bannon shoots just wide with a decent effort.
That was a nice attempt by the young Scot. It was really close to the top corner
Samba is injured, holding his head.
David Pleat is talking too much
"If Villa scored first they could have won this match?
DUH
4 added minutes
Thanks for the technical help on the Bookmarks tabs last night, UWS. Here's another technical question for you gents.
I'll still rebuilding my iTunes library. I'm currently unable to dial up the iTunes Store. When I try, a message comes up saying, "We're unable to locate the iTunes Store. Check that your network connection is active." Well, I'm able to get on-line, so is there another network they're talking about. What am I doing wrong?
Pleat has always been the master of the bleedin' obvious.
Bob
What were Steve's thoughts about the derby yesterday?
Another Pleatism. You don't win if you don't play well.
DUH
He is the most insignificant David out there.
I didn't dare call him. I thought I'd give him 24 hours. Simon Burke's Facebook status was "I Hate Football."
Rovers up to 11th.... I wish they would go down... well Big Sam go down!
Rovers win 2-0. Next Fulham vs Citeh as Sparky faces the team that sacked him.
COME ON YOU COTTAGERS!!!
Understood!
Make sure you tell him I am more on his side than the Blues... if it matters
My favorite bit of Pleat is captured in the original version of "Fever Pitch" with Colin Firth as the Hornby character. He and his mate are watching the 1989 championship match with Arsenal at Anfield. It's Brian Moore alongside Pleat on the commentary. Pleat says something like, "I can't see Arsenal scoring two at this point," and the friend watching says, "Oh, shut up, Pleat!" Classic!
I'm all about Carlito in the next match. Get your hat-trick, my son!
That's a really disappointing loss for Villa, don't you think?
I remember that
Shut it with Tevez... LET'S GO FULHAM!!
While we're waiting for the next match, here's a clip of the funniest bit from last night's SNL. Enjoy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcqI3tCSf-s
I saw this
Good bit
I went through a full body scanner last weekend in Denver. I didn't know what it was until I was already through it. Those machines all look a bit alike to me. In any case, when I get the pat-down at Heathrow when I go in December, I'm giving the agent my full Larry Grayson - "ooer, well I never! best offer I'd had all week, love!"
Here are the line-ups for this afternoon's match at the Cottage:
Fulham: Schwarzer, Baird, Hangeland, Hughes, Salcido, Davies,
Murphy, Etuhu, Duff, Dempsey, Andrew Johnson.
Subs: Stockdale, Kelly, Pantsil, Gera, Kamara, Dikgacoi, Greening.
Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Toure, Kompany, Kolarov, Toure Yaya,
De Jong, Barry, Jo, Tevez, Silva.
Subs: Given, Milner, Wright-Phillips, Adebayor, Adam Johnson, Vieira, Boyata.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)
Just saw the end of the Chievo Inter match
Inter lost 1-2 and have two points from the last four games. They are out of the Europa League places at the moment. The commentator said that Rafa could lose his job!
What a fall! It has gone all pear shaped for Rafa since his Fact Rant!!
I seem to remember that Mancini had promised to play a more attacking style this weekend, and yet he's gone with three defensive mids (Toure, De Jong and Barry) once again. (sigh)
I'll be back soon. Off for a walk with Shadow.
I also have to work on the millions of leaves still around!!!
How does Barry get a game for ANY TEAM!!!
He is HOPELESS
Kick-off time!
You waited until kick-off to give Shadow a "walkies?"
When will Clint Dempsey just be "Clint Dempsey" and not "the American Clint Dempsey?"
Citeh leapfrog Bolton into fourth just by dint of kicking off with Fulham today. Fulham will need a win today as they are perilously close to the dropzone, only a point off Wigan in 18th.
Patient start to this clash today. Both sides feeling themselves out, but not in a TSA kind of sense.
YESSSS! Carlito has netted his first of what I'm hoping is a hat-ful of goals today.
0-1 Citeh!
Fulham made a mess of clearing that one out and when the ball came back in toward Tev, he was marginally offside but Salcido was far too easily edged off the ball. Neat finish from Carlito.
Citeh up to 25 points and a point shy of Arsenal in third now. Fulham now level on points with Wigan on 14. Edgy times for Sparky.
Offside or not, that goal with certainly light the touch paper on this match.
Has anyone else noticed that the players this weekend appear to be wearing turtlenecks under their kits? It's some kind of trendy undergear that they're trying out. I noticed it on Roon yesterday and Tev has it on too. Remember when all the players tried out the Breathe-Easy nose strips a few years back?
The commentators are pointing out that Citeh have grabbed exactly as many points as they did last year at this point and yet Sparky was only weeks away from the sack.
I am back BD and UWS, I see that Tevez has scored an early goal for Citeh.
Sparky sure is struggling with the Cottagers. They are in the midst of a relegation battle.
The Sky Blues are wearing navy blue today.
Welcome back, MUR. UWS is off with a dogwalking chore. I'll be interested in your thoughts on that first goal. The commentators thought he was offside. I thought he was level. Very tight decision, but I have to admit I'm biased. That puts Carlito on eight for the season.
Citeh break through Kolorov after Fulham make a hash of a short free kick that produces a save from Schwarzer. Kolorov should have scored. Schwarzer gathers the corner.
I missed the goal BD. I was out until the thirteenth minute so I will take a look at halftime.
Silva shoots well wide from long range.
The current Golden Goal standings:
Andy Carroll - 8
Johan Elmander - 8
Carlos Tevez - 8
Florent Malouda - 7
Kevin Nolan - 7
Darren Bent - 6
Rafael VDV - 6
Maurane Chamakh - 6
Tevez is called for a push on Salcido as he was going for ball. It seemed fair. IMHO
There are some surprises in the golden goal standings. Only Tevez, VDV,and Bent were expected to be in the race. Malouda may not be a surprise as he is scoring goals that would normally be scored by Anelka and Drogba.
Tev has been bossing Salcido all day. At first it looks a physical mis-match but Tevez has that low center of gravity body strength that Maradona also had. Diego's in the crowd at the Cottage btw.
I wonder why Diego is in the crowd. He stated that he wants to manage an EPL team. He must be dreaming.
Well, the real shockers of the season are Bolton, currently in fifth. They're playing well over their abilities and many typical favorites are underperforming. I expect them to drop into mid-table eventually. And what about two Newcastle players on that list?!
GOAL! Voom - pick that one out. Zaballetta rockets a second in for Citeh. Diego's eyes would have lit up with that one.
WHAT A GOAL BY ZABELETTA!!!
FULHAM 0 CITEH 2
Schwarzer had no chance with that screamer.
I am back from the walk for the Zabeleta thunderbolt!
THREE NIL!!!
Toure..yaya!!
GOAL! 0-3! Yaya turns in a third for Citeh and Fulham are being ripped apart. Tevez to Yaya and a nice finish across Schwarzer.
And the Citeh fans are chanting ironically - "Boring, boring Citeh."
GOAL !!!
0-3 TO CITEH AS YAYA FINISHES WITH A SHOT IN THE CORNER AFTER A GREAT PASS FROM TEVEZ!!!
Sparky's not happy at all - shaking his head in disbelief at the scoreline. I don't think that he could have faulted his defense for the second, and probably not the third either.
Wigan must have a ridiculous GD, because even that third goal hasn't changed the positions at the bottom. Fulham still hanging on to 17th place.
I fault the left back as he watched Yaya make the run and shot without a challenge. I think Sparky feels the same.
Fulham has a -3 and Wigan has a -14 due to heavy defeats against Chelski and Blackpool at the beginning of the season.
I was right - Fulham are now at -3 but Wigan are at -13!
Btw, Leeds have now let in 32 goals - only Palace and PNE at the bottom have let in more! But we've also scored 32 so we're at 0 GD in fifth.
There is never a dull moment when watching the Whites based on those statistics.
To be fair to Grayson, our two regular center backs from last season - Richard Naylor and Patrick Kisnorbo - have been out most of the season. We've been making due with Stevie Bruce's son Alex who's still pretty raw.
Simon Davies heads straight to Joe Hart off the long free kick from Baird.
Two minutes of stoppage time.I'm sure Fulham will be pleased to hear the halftime whistle.
No doubt. But what does Sparky say to his side?
Baird wins a corner for Fulham.
Hangelaand heads straight into the air off the corner. The half ends as Citeh lead 0-3 at the Cottage.
Back from a bread run for the half time whistle... Sparky doesn't look a happy chappy!!
Of course, Fulham could do a Spurs in the second half!!
I am not sure what Sparky will say at the half. He sure did not want to be on the end of a thrashing against the team that sacked him.
Fulham is GD away from the drop zone!
I have lost control of the TV
I have a link from atdhe
It is from German Sky Sports!!
I think Tevez may have been a foot offside, but it was really close. I guess you give the benefit to the attacker in that situation.
Sparky looks like someone who gave his team the hairdryer treatment.
Gera is on for Duff, who was at fault for the second goal.
The second half is underway.
Salcido wins a corner for Fulham. Aaron Hughes heads over from the Simon Davies corner.
My link is behind FSC
I felt that Salcido was at fault for the third goal.
Just checked the BBC link on the newest link website
YOU'RE MISSING SONGS OF PRAISE FELLAS!!!!
Do you remember that Not the Nine O'clock News skit about S of P?
"up and down like a whore's drawers"
That NNN skit sounds familiar. I'm back after a nibble.
Bugger! Carlito wastes a one-on-one chance there. And now he has scored albeit in jammy fashion!
0-4!
Oh - that was cute. Tevez on top of the GB stakes - way hay!
More ironic cheers of "Boring, boring Citeh" from the away support.
Go on, boy - get your hat-trick!
Of course, Citeh will follow this thumping with a loss at Stoke next week!
Let's hope.
Will you be around for the CL match on Wednesday, UWS?
Yup... no school on Wednesday so I will be there for kick off.
United are on FSC
What are you doing for Thanksgiving Bob?
I will be available on Wednesday. I missed the fourth goal. My wife passed out at the synagogue and went to pick her up.
I remember Not the Nine O'Clock News, but not the particular skit.
I'll be down in Gooner HQ for the week starting on Tuesday.
I won't ask you about tonight's MLS Cup Final, UWS, because I know the answer. (sigh)
I haven't watched this match much.
Is Hart playing for Citeh
Really sorry to hear about Elizabeth. Was that today that she fell ill, MUR?!
Yes .Hart is in goal
Fulham with a goal... THE COMEBACK I ON
Dempsey with the deflection
GOAL! Zoltan Gera pulls back a consolation goal. It might have gone off Dempsey in the end but I'd give it to Gera.
Gera pulls one back for Fulham off the corner with a nice finish.
They say it was Gera's. Didn't that hit Clint
Oh - bugger. Carlito is down and feeling his hammy. Me no likey.
Tevez looks for the penalty after running into Salcido. Lee Mason is having none of it. Neither would I.
That could have been a pen there!
Glad you getting together with family
I'll be in London for Christmas again too. With Karen not being around, I reckon I'll start making that an annual routine.
I wish everyone the best with their holidays.
What an annual routine? London?
Where's Karen these days?
I agree with UWS. Dempsey had the last touch. He should be credited with the goal.
Cheers, MUR - you too!
Same to you MUR
Zabaletta is booked for the challenge. I thought it was a fair tackle.
Here's the short version of a long story, mate: we're separated. not my idea or what I want. I'm helping her financially. she's just started a new job in Michigan. when I spoke with Karen the other night, she was already talking about applying for jobs for the fall in Virginia and Illinois. So I'm making do on my own here in Fredonia.
Thanks BD and MUR. I think we will be home for the holidays. My wife wants to do the traditional Thanksgiving spread, but I told her not to worry if she does not start feeling better.
I am very sorry BD. I remember that you had mentioned that she was working in Cleveland. If I can help in any way please let me know.
Sorry about that Bob
I'm thinking of you
Well, I know it sounds silly, but it definitely helps to have good friends to natter with about footie on the weekends.
HEY MUR... why are you thanking yourself!!!
I'M UWS!!!!
Patrick Viera comes on for Barry. That is basically a straight swap as one holding midfielder is on for another.
Feel free to come by anytime Bob. I know it is a trek but you can always listen to your weekly 606s on the way
Now, now, UWS. We were having a heart-felt moment there and you had to spoil it.
I'm not sure. Thank you UWS!!!
I'll plan on it - 3rd Round of the Cup - Leeds v. United at Elland Road?
Sorry Bob... lost my head for a minute
Hey... now all I have to think of is a win at home to Blackburn next Saturday and we will be top!!!
Stick that draw up your left nostril!!!!
I agree. Chatting about footie on the weekends is a stress reliever.I really look forward to this every weekend.
Hey, I'm just giving your lot the chance at revenge for last season!
That would give us a chance to avenge that defeat at OT in January. Leeds won't have Beckford in the side this time.
Zabaleta, the goal scorer has already been booked and is close to getting his marching orders now.
I'll take the rematch in the Semi Final at Wembley
Mancini making pointless changes... knock it off
Milner has a late cameo as he is on for Silva.
I agree with BD. Mancini should replace Zabaletta so that he doesn't pick up a second yellow and can avoid suspension.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
According to the commentator, he already does have a suspension for a fifth yellow
De Jong should be a starter in your Villain's XI.
That's it
Off to deal with many leaves.
I am going to try and listen to 606 as I do it!
See you midweek
TTFN
Peep, peep, peep. The ref has finally put Sparky out of his misery. Citeh have absolutely hammered the Cottagers. 1-4.
Citeh win 1-4 at the Cottage as Sparky is on the end of a thrashing against his former employers.
Take care UWS. See you on Wednesday.
De Jong would definitely be in my World Villains XI. In fact the Dutch have several thuggish types. I really wanted Stephen Hunt in my side but unfortunately he's Norn Irish.
Cheerio, lads! Talk to you midweek!
I look forward to chatting with you this evening,BD as we watch the MLS Cup Final.
Take care BD.
