Sunday EPL Football
Come join us for some Sunday Action as Fulham host Blackpool in a relegation battle in which the winner should be much closer to safety and the loser is firmly involved in a relegation struggle. Sunderland host Man Citeh in the second match. If Citeh win then they move into third place.

The match is under way at Craven Cottage.
Fulham have an excellent home record while Blackpool's problem is that they have the worst defense in the EPL.
Fulham usually keep it pretty tight. hey don't score many, but they don't concede many either.
Dembele goes down the left wing past Evatt , but his cross is headed clear.
A corner is headed clear as it has been all Fulham from the beginning.
The long ball from Crainey is headed down by James Beattie , But Fulham defend with no problem.
A nice through ball was just too long for Dembele, but Kingson collected.
Charlie Adam is booked for a foul.
The free kick from Danny Murphy is headed clear.
A pass from Cathcart to Adam leads to a long range effort from Adam going just over.
The only other matches today are the Edinburgh Derby where the halftime score is Hibs 1 Hearts 1 and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final where Carlisle United have just taken the lead against Brentford.
Fulham nearly took the lead as Salcido crossed , Booby Zamora headed down, and Duff's shot was tipped on to the post by Kingson.
Blackpool play in the early game next Sunday as they host the Gunners.
Kingson fumbles a shot, but fortunately for the Tangerines, two Fulham were offside.
GOAL !!! 1-0 FULHAM
BLACKPOOL SHOW WHY THEY HAVE THE WORST DEFENSE IN THE EPL AS BLACKPOOL GAVE AWAY THE BALL ON THE HALFWAY LINE AND BOBBY ZAMORA WAS OFF TO THE RACES AS HE SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH PAST KINGSON . HE WAS UNCHALLENGED.
If Blackpool lose then they move into the bottom three for the first time this season.
A Fulham corner is headed away by James Beattie, then Danny Murphy shoots wide.
Morning, MUR! Thanks for getting us going this morning. That's a huge goal for Fulham and sinks Blackpool even deeper into the mire. I fear for them.
It's all Fulham as two shots are blocked, then Crainey fouls Duff by the corner flag.
GOAL!! 2-0 FULHAM AS BOBBY ZAMORA HEADS IN THE FREE KICK FROM DAMIEN DUFF. IT WAS A REALLY SIMPLE GOAL.
Blimey - Blackpool are really up against it now.
Good morning BD. Blackpool are in the bottom three. They have the worst defense in the EPL and you can see why from those two Bobby Zamora goals.
As Butch stated, Crainey didn't need to concede that free kick as Duff was going nowhere, then they concede a second goal.
IS that Johnstone's Paint Trophy match the final?
Blackpool win their first corner to be taken by Elliot Grandin. It is headed away.
It is. Brentford are representing the Southern section and Carlisle the Northern section this season. I'm really glad to not have to pay attention to the JPT anymore.
I don't blame you. The Bees would be the home team as they have the short trip to Wembuhlay.
What do you make of all of the furor over Wayne Rooney's "celebration" of the hat-trick goal yesterday? He was absolutely slaughtered on 606, even by Robbie Savage. You would have thought that he'd kung fu kicked the ref!
As Butch stated, Fulham deserve their lead. It looks too easy for Fulham. They are about one win from clinching safety if they win today.
I am not sure what he said as that is the basis for the investigation.Savage as others must know what was said.Otherwise, I don't think it is a big deal.
You're right - a loss today would have dragged Fulham back into the mire while a win pretty much sees Fulham into the top half and relatively safe.
Nice reference to King Eric The Great!
Their home form saves them yet again.
I have another busy day as I drive four girls to orchestra practice ,45 miles from home. I watched the softball tournament after we finished chatting , in 90 degree heat.
Blackpool nearly pull one back as Schwarzer missed the cross and Chris Baird headed off the line.
Busy day for me as well, David. I'm off to a meeting to organize our Belize trip for next January at 2pm and then I have an 8pm Amnesty International period. So much for the "day of rest." Fortunately, my commute is only a fifteen minute walk.
That was a chance for Blackpool as the shot from Vaughan was deflected wide by Salcido.Adam takes a short corner. There is one minute of stoppage time.
Blackpool starting to press but they're going to run out of time as the half winds down.
It is a busy time of the year. I will be glad when June finally arrives.
Fulham lead 2-0 at halftime as Blackpool showed signs of improvement at the end of the first half.
I made a goof as Citeh is the home team in the next match.
Hibs have taken the lead against Hearts in the Edinburgh Derby as it is 2-1 with approximately ten minutes remaining.
Hearts have levelled matters as it is 2-2 in the Edinburgh Derby.
The teams are back out at the Cottage and Fulham are about to get us underway. They're sitting pretty at 2-0 up through Bobby Zamora's two cheap goals.
The second half is underway from Craven Cottage.
Morning Fellas
I am going to be a no show today. Lots of running around to be done. Let's hope for a couple or 3 points dropped for Citeh to make the weekend BRILLIANT!
I'll be around for Wednesday
TTFN
Those cheap goals show why Blackpool have the worst defense in the EPL.
Have a great week,UWS.
I'm with you on that. June can't come quickly enough. We're into our final rush to the end of the semester now. It won't ease up until the end of May. I'll be teaching my pet course through June but that's just two sessions a week. No big deal.
Cheerio, UWS!
In addition to the European action, there are some key N Power Championship matches as QPR host Sheffield United tomorrow and Reading host Preston on Tuesday.
Tuesday may be tricky for me, but I'm hoping to devote my full attention to the footer on Wednesday afternoon.
The final score in the Edinburgh Derby is 2-2.
Blackpool have started where they finished. It's not beyond them to get a couple of goals in the second half. I'd love to see it.
I know you will be rooting for PNE on Tuesday. I guess you will be rooting for Evil QPR tomorrow as Neil Warnock is up against his former team in the battle of teams we love to hate.
I agree. They have improved. Ian Holloway must have had plenty to say at halftime.
I will be. QPR have already been crowned champions in my mind. I don't like it but there it is.
Nice stuff from Dembele winning a corner for Fulham.
Denbele wins a corner off of Cathcart. The corner from Duff eludes everyone, But Fulham maintain possession.
Hangelaand is applauded for his skill near the corner flag. Better than Cookie Coleman,IMHO.
Oh - Beattie nearly beat Schwarzer at the near post there. Shame.
A decent effort by James Beattie as he holds off Salcido and his effort comes off the outside of the post.
Kingson did well to save from Dempsey.
Blackpool play in the early match next Sunday too as they host the Gunners.
That was a good save from Kingson as that shot took a wicked deflection off of Alex Baptiste.
Dickson Etuhu is lectured by Stuart Atwell for a late challenge on Charlie Adam.
I'm going to to have to sign off at 10 am and do a conference call with my folks on Skype. I miss the rest of this match but I'll be back for the Citeh match at 11 am EST.
Andy Johnson is on for Bobby Zamora as the striker receives a standing ovation for scoring twice on his return to the first team.
Cheers BD. I hope everything goes well. I look forward to chatting with you during the next match.
Danny Murphy is booked for a poor challenge.
Blackpool make a triple substitution.Varney for Ormerod Puncheon for Beattie, and Belarus international ,Kornalenko, is on for Grandin.
Puncheon shoots straight at Schwarzer in his first attack.
Dembele has a shot defelcted for a corner.
GOAL 3-0 FULHAM AND GAME OVER AS DANNY MURPHY TOOK A FREE KICK , ETUHU HEADED OFF THE POST , THEN HANGELAAND PASSED ACROSS THE FACE OF THE SIX YARD BOX FOR ETUHU TO TAP IN TO AN EMPTY NET.
Nearly 4-0 as Etuhu has a shot come off the post. Steve Sidwell makes a return to the first team as he comes on for Danny Murphy, who receives an ovation from the Fulham supporters.
Simon Davies is on for Damien Duff.
This is Fulham's tenth consecutive season in the top flight; the longest spell in the club's history.
Kornalenko and Aaron Hughes are down after a clash of heads.
Blackpool have a corner when it appeared that Salcido fouled Taylor-Fletcher.
Two claims for hand ball are denied by Stuart Atwell.
The Blackpool fans are very enthusiastic despite the score and the performance.
Hangelaand is booked for a foul on Charlie Adam.
Blackpool nearly score as Cathcart heads just over from the free kick taken by Charlie Adam. There will be a minimum of four minutes of stoppage time.
Fulham will play the remainder of the match with ten men as Aaron Hughes goes off injured. He had dislocated his shoulder while on international duty and did well to last as long as he did.
Schwarzer makes a great save from Charlie Adam , but the rebound is shot wide.
The Blackpool fans are enjoying their day out despite trailing 3-0.
The final score from Craven Cottage is Fulham 3 Blackpool 0
Carlisle United have defeated Brentford 1-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final. I am not exactly sure what that means.
Hi again, MUR - I'm back for the late match. Here are the teams:
Man City: Hart, Boyata, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, Yaya Toure, De Jong, Silva, Adam Johnson, Tevez, Balotelli. Subs: Taylor, Milner, Wright-Phillips, Dzeko, Barry, Vieira, McGivern.
Sunderland: Mignolet, Bardsley, Turner, Mensah, Ferdinand,
Cattermole, Henderson, Muntari, Sessegnon, Gyan, Welbeck. Subs: Gordon, Zenden, Malbranque, Colback, Elmohamady, Adams, Lynch.
Referee: Howard Webb (S Yorkshire)
Carlisle have won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - that's all it is. They'll be parading the cup around Wembley as we type.
There has been a lower league trophy around for quite a while with a variety of sponsors. Up until recently it was referred to as the Auto Windscreens Trophy. It's divided into North and South sections and then the winner of each section plays the final at Wembley. It's a nice occasion for fans of lower league clubs. Carlisle have done very well in recent years. They were in the final last season but were defeated by the southern side - MK Dons.
Hello BD. Welcome Back. I think you said that you skyped your parents. I wish them the best.
I guess it gives the lower division sides a chance for some glory.
Gyan is all smiles as he should beafter that great last minute equalizer.
The match is underway from Eastlands.
The usual Sky "B" team team on the commentary - Gary Taphouse and Stuart Robson.
Cheers, MUR. Mom's back into the clinic tomorrow morning hoping to get through the second round of chemo and radiation.
I think Stuart Robson does a decent job. He has LOB connections as he played for the Hammers and the Gunners.
I hope everything goes well for your mom.
I appreciate your concern, MUR.
When these teams met at Eastlands last season it was Mark Hughes' last game in charge as Citeh won 4-3. I expect fewer goals this time around.
Sessignon wins a corner off of Boyata.
The short corner and long ball are easily defended by Citeh.
Fergie looking rather grumpy in the stands.
SAF is in attendance as the Cup Semis are in two weeks.
Tevez roasted Mensah there but the defender did well to recover.
Mensah does well against Tev.
Stevie Bruce will want a good result due to his United connections. He is about 100 pounds heavier than he was during his playing days at OT.
GOAL! Great team goal for Citeh finished off by Adam Johnson.
Brilliant one two there between Johnson and Yaya there.
1-0 Citeh!
GOAL!!! 1-0 Citeh AS ADAM JOHNSON SCORES FROM A GREAT PASS BY YAYA AS THE SUNDERLAND DEFENSE WAS CARVED APART.
So that's Citeh back up into third on 56 points, a point better than Chelski who squandered that opportunity at Stoke yesterday. For all their strike power, Citeh haven't really scored that many goals and are on +19 GD to Chelski's far superior +29. That GD factor might well play a role down the line.
Welbeck and Gyan try a similar one two to that between YAya and Adam Johnson, but Kompany had it covered.
Sunderland remain on 38 points in 12th. I still think that they're relatively safe, perhaps just one win from total safety.
The goal difference is crucial as third place would result in automatic qualification to the group stages and fourth results in playing a two legged qualifier against potentially tricky opposition.
Penalty to Citeh! I thought that Bardsley had done well to recover but Howard Webb blows for a spot kick.
Tev wins a penalty as he was fouled by Bardsley , who is booked for that challenge.
Way hay - it's my Golden Boot boy Tevez to take.....
Oh - and just squeezed in.
2-0 Citeh!
OOH! Tev squeezes that penalty just inside the post as it is 2-0 to Citeh as Mignolet got a hand to the spot kick.
Mignolet guessed correctly and was really unlucky not to tip it around or onto the post.
Still - that's Tev's 19th goal in the Prem and breaks his seven game goal drought, thankfully. He's a goal behind Drac at present.
I say lucky Tev. It was a brilliant pass from Silva and I think Webb made the correct decision as it was clumsy by Bardsley after Tev did well to chip him with an outrageous piece of skill.
So - +20 GD for Citeh now. If this game proceeds accordingly, not only will I get a GB boost, but Citeh could close the GD gap with Chelski. They seem really in the mood.
Oh - Bardsley keeps Tev out this time. Citeh are rampant now.
Citeh is in the mood and Sunderland is there just to make up the numbers as Tev wins a corner off of Bardsley.
Citeh have so many attacking weapons when Mancini chooses to unleash them. That's why it's so criminal to see them play defensively.
Adam Johnson takes it short to Silva and Mignolet easily gathers the cross.
Sunderland have gone over six hours without scoring since Gyan scored against Spurs on February 12th. It seems a long time since they won 0-3 at the Bridge.
I think Sunderland have picked up one point in the last eighteen as well.
Gyan just seems a passenger today.
He must be exhausted from his effort at Wembley. He is a pro so he should do better. He is not getting much support from his teammates.
Interesting. I didn't realize that Wellbeck was still on the books at United.
Turner could easily have picked up a yellow for handball there but I don't think Webb saw it.
I agree with Stuart Robson . It seemed to be a minor foul by Mensah on Tev, who went down easily.
The linesman caught and Turner is lucky not to be booked.
Kolorov shoots wide from the free kick.
Kolarov hits the resulting free kick and it swings wide. Ballotelli seems arsed off that he didn't get the chance.
Sunderland are having real problems retaining possession. Mensah, Bardsley and co won't be happy with their midfielders.
Balo's purpose in life is to be arsed off about every little thing. He is a real head case.
Turner appears to push Balotelli over but Webb's not having any of it.
Was that a foul by Turner or a dive by Balo?
I agree - Balo's a total headcase. That's why he's so much fun to watch.
This match sure resembles the earlier match at Craven Cottage.
Oh dear - a swing and a miss from Wellbeck. Sunderland won't have many good chances like that. They'll have to take better advantage.
Sessignon shoots straight at Hart as Sunderland have their first decent attack of the match.
Mensah's been working on the yellow card all match and he's finally earned it. Webb has lost patience with him.
Mensah is booked after a late challenge on Tev. Webb had warned him earlier.
I agree with Sturat Robson again as Citeh should have had another penalty as Mensah held Balo in the box. Mensah may have seen a second yellow too.
Mignolet makes a decent save from Balo.
Brucie may want to think about subbing Mensah as he appears to be working on a red.
Bardsley concedes a corner.
Adam Johnson takes another short corner , but his return cross eludes everyone.
That was naughty by Kolorov as he put forth a rash challenge on Sessignon and is deservedly booked.
The free kick fails to beat the first man. Gyan shoots just wide with a decent effort. That is more like it.
Lee "Clattermole" with a tasty challenge there.
Citeh should probably be three or four goals up at this point.
I agree. Sunderland have come back into this match in the last five minutes.
I had no idea that Kompany was Belgian. The Belgians haven't been a force in Europe for quite some time.
Cattermole dives in again and he's got to be really close to a card now.
Brucie isn't happy at all at the moment.
Some ironic cheers from the away fans as Webb calls a foul on Boyatte.
They should do better as they have players like Kompany, Boyata, Dembele, Fellani, and Mignolet playing in th EPL. Their last major tournament was the 2002 World Cup. Also, ex Citeh player, Van Buyten starts for Bayern Munich. They have some decent players.
There is one minute of stoppage time.
The Ghana connection tries to get something going but Lescott did well.
Half-time: 2-0 Citeh and could have been more. I'd like to see Tevez score a couple more in the second half.
I'm off for a shower. Back in a tick.
Turner does well to tackle Tev and Sunderland scramble it clear as Citeh have a 2-0 halftime lead. Brucie should give the players the Fergie hairdryer treatment. I am off for shower and will be back for the start of the second half.
Sunderland have made some changes. El Mohammedy is on .
The second half is underway from Eastlands.
Yaya is down after a challenge from Gyan.
Sessignon wins a corner off of Lescott after some great work by El Mohammedy.
The corner is easily headed clear.
Sunderland win another corner and Citeh fans cheer as Mancini does well to trap Kompany's clearance.
Hart easily catches the corner.
I'm back and disappointed that Tev hasn't added to his tally yet.
Citeh win a corner off of a poor back pass by Mensah.
Welcome back, BD. We are are squeeky clean for the second half.
Absolutely, MUR.
There is till plenty of time for Tev to add to his tally, especially as the Black Cats have been in a charitable mood.
Niall Quin played for both teams. As the current chairman, he is scratching his head wondering what to do.
That's the problem with Johnson playing on the right again. Instead of going wide right after receiving from Tevez, he tried to play Tev back in.
Oh - that was good. Little chip over the top from Silva to Johnson. Incorrectly called offside but moot as Mignolet had saved.
Adan Johnson was flagged offside as Mignolet made a great save. Great football from Boyata, Tev, Silva ,and Adam Johnson.
Oh - Balo surges forward powerfully and produces a great save from Mignolet.
Mignolet made a great save from Balo.
It is too easy for Citeh as It was for Fulham in the earlier match.
High, hopeful ball from Henderson to Gyan. They won't get back into the match that way.
Gyan looks for a foul on Boyata and Webb is having none of it. Quite right, too.
Words between Mancini and Balo there on the touchline.
Mancini is yelling at Balo. They are not exactly the best of friends.
I guess Mancini and Balo won't go out for a few beers any time soon .
Bolo Zenden is coming on for Henderson now.
Zenden is on for Jordan Henderson, who has had a poor match as far as I am concerned.
I'm not sure why Mancini is so animated. Citeh are in complete control of this match. It's just a matter of how many goals they'll put by Sunderland.
I think he wants an excuse to yell at Balo. If he doesn't like them , then let him play and just ignore him.
"No more" says Webb to Cattermole. I don't quite no why he has escaped a yellow card.
Cattermole should have been booked by now. He is a negative player in the mold of Mikkel and and Toulalan, and Makelele
GOAL! David Silva on the end of another sumptuous Citeh move. De Jong found Tev beautifully. Tev to Balo and the ricochet fell to Silva.
3-0!
GOAL 3-0 CITEH AS DE JONG PLAYS A SUPERB BALL AND SILVA SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH.
Niall Quinn brooding on the bench. He's not happy.
It was a great assist by Tev and a fortunate deflection when Silva shot.
Citeh win a corner after more great combo play by Johnson and Tev.
Johnson is replaced by Paddy Viera .
