We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
United v. Schalke Live!
United go into today's match at Old Trafford facing Schalke in a similar situation to what faced Barca yesterday - and we all saw what happened there. Fergie and co. are 90 minutes from Wemberley. Won't you join me for the inevitable? I'll be here until around 4pm.

Way hay - I've got a lovely link up for the preview of the big match on FSC:

Someone said will not be pleased. Inverness have taken the lead in that key SPL match. 2-1 now. Come on, the Hoops!
Hey Bob,
I am nervous about the line up!
I hope SAF gets it right!
The match is FX today so I will be able to watch it in HD when I get home.
Again, I will be home after 20 minutes or so
Cool graphic
Wish Roon was on the bench
STRUTH... CELTIC ARE LOSING 3-1
This was their game in hand... they will lose the title with this loss!!
carsayyy on Twitter: "A chance for Berbatov to step up to the plate and prove himself tonight."
So his 21 Premier League goals this season haven't already done that? You're right in that Sir Alex doesn't seem to trust him much in big games, though.
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Manchester United have never lost a European home match by more than one goal difference. They have had eight home defeats by a one goal margin."
I HOPE THIS TREND CONTINUES!
ME TOO!!!
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson on his team selection: "The two centre-backs (Smalling and Evans) are the ones who lack the experience of big-time situations but if you look at Schalke they also have some young players. It was a difficult one but I think I'm right... I hope I'm right."
I'm NERVOUS!!!
23nickc on Twitter: "Never thought I'd see the day where John O'Shea leads out MUFC at Old Trafford! Let alone in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final!"
Still at work... can't see anything but they are off!
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I'm leaving work
Talk to you when I get home
I am home... still scoreless after 25 minutes
COME ON UNITED.... SCORE
YES!!!!!!!!!!
VALENCIA!!!!!!!!!!
ONE NIL!!!!!!
Nice pass by Gibson to Valencia who runs on goal and scores unlike Giggs in the first leg
Thanks United for waiting til I get home!!
WEMBLEY
WEMBLEY
We're the famous Man United and were going to Wembley
Celtic have lost 3-2 to Inverness Caladonian Thistle
Super Cally go ballistic Celtic are atrocious
Advantage Rangers
Bloody students - I've missed the kick-off but am back just in time to see Valencia's clinical finish. Neuer kept the score down in the first leg and it looks as if he's got his work cut out for him again.
Welcome back Bob
Afternoon, Dave. Sounds as if you had perfect timing arriving home just as United scored.
GOAL! 2-0 United!
YES!!!
GIBSON... TWO NIL!!!!
COME ON MAN U.... BRING ON BARCA!!
BRING ON CHELSEA
Big mistake by Neuer
Simple. Throw to Anderson, lay off to Valencia who passes to Gibson. The strike is unconvincing but Neuer bobbled it in off the post. United cruising!~
Thomas wants another Roma 7-1
Someone Said won't be happy this afternoon. Inverness have defeated Celtic 3-2, which leaves the Hoops a point shy of Rangers with three vital matches to come.
You might get it, you know. That would be a tonic for Sunday.
BLOODY HELL!!!
USELESS DEFENDING!!
COME ON UNITED!
It is is over...right Bob?
STRUTH OFF THE LINE!!
GOAL! Schalke get one back. Probably just a consolation. This tie is over. Corrado with the strike.
Yes - it's over.
Gibby picks up a yellow for a late one.
Of course, you've been saying that about the League and it isn't!
'Tis.
I hope you're right... you're not though
Remember that Real scored one yesterday too but otherwise they weren't in it.
Scholes has been booked for being in the wall
Now Scholes has gone into the book for encroachment. Silly billy.
Farfan....useless.
Is anyone in danger of missing the final?
Tyler is right...United were romping 3-0 against Bayern last season and only won 3-2 and were out!
1903: Here's a stat for you, courtesy of Infostrada Sports. Edwin van der Sar is playing in what is probably his penultimate Champions League match for United. If his side reach the final and Van der Sar features at Wembley, the Dutchman will become the first player aged 40 or older to play in the CL final. The record holder in that respect is Paolo Maldini who was 38 years and 331 days old on 23 May 2007 (AC Milan - Liverpool 2-1). The 28 May final at Wembley would presumably also be Van der Sar's last official match for United.
PICK UP THE CUP AS YOUR LAST ACT FOR UNITED... JUST LIKE THE BIG DANE!
The ref is booking everyone!
I don't see any indication that there is any yellow card peril other than the two already booked tonight.
Make that three - Anderson.
More students!
No - I'm still here. I was just doing some research on the yellow card situation for you. You will keep asking questions.
Get up Nani!!!
Great stuff on VDS. However, who is going to be your first choice keep for the fall?
Already in stoppage time... free kick cleared
COME ON UNITED
Haven't a clue... I was hoping this bloke for Shalke would change his mind...maybe not after the second goal!
NathanJBright on Twitter: "Gibson is the new Iniesta... Neuer the new Massimo Taibi."
That's the half....
ALMOST THERE!!!
I thought you might pick up that big Dutchman Steklenberg.
45 minutes to go now. Three goals up on aggregate. Can you really be nervous, you ninny!?
I know but, but as I always say, it only takes a second to score a goal... then another.... and then
HALF-TIME: Man Utd 2-1 Schalke 04 (agg 4-1)
Chief football writer Phil McNulty's HT snapshot: "Manchester United well on course for another Champions League final meeting with Barcelona. Strange game - strange atmosphere, but Wembley is now in sight."
Wee Gordon Strachan is really having a go at Manuel Neuer.
Former England boss Steve McClaren at Old Trafford on BBC Radio 5 live: "I'm a little disappointed in Manchester United, going 2-0 up, they should control the game. And their reaction from conceding that goal shows the inexperience of the players on the field, losing composure and picking up needless yellow cards."
What is he saying
Why are Shalke wearing different shirts than last week? They didn't clash last week!
United have only conceded goals at OT this year... none at home!!!
Wembely isn't Old Trafford!
Basically saying that he's overrated and that no one had heard of him a fortnight ago and that's been hyped up by Fleet Street.
2043: More from Infostrada Sports now. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is on course to become only the second manager in history to lead his team in more than five finals in Europe's three premier cup competitions, consisting of European Cup/Champions League, the now obsolete Cup Winners' Cup and Fairs Cup/Uefa Cup/Europa League. If he succeeds he will surpass Miguel Munoz, Ernst Happel, Johan Cruijff, Udo Lattek, Raymond Goethals, Sven-Göran Eriksson and Marcello Lippi who are all on five. The record holder in this respect is Giovanni Trapattoni on seven.
I'm off down to set up my class. I'll be back briefly once I get them started on their course evaluations.
Stupid foul by Evans
See you in a tick... remember... I like when you bugger off while they are playing Shalke
Don't let another one in please United
Come on Shalke... knock it off
Again... nervous
I can see United score on the break though
United have a corner five seconds after Shalke have two in a row
IT IS A BLOODY SHORT ONE... KNOCKED STRAIGHT BACK TO VALENCIA AND IT IS OFFSIDE
SHORT CORNERS SHOULD BE BANNED!
I have just decided... Berbatov is going to the hero on Sunday!
oooh, Berbatov sets up Anderson who has a lovely shot saved by Wee Gordon's mate
Valencia has been a good buy
We missed him earlier in the league
Evra about to come on
I think Rafa has a knock. He'll go to the left and and O'Shea will move to the right
Half an hour away from Wembley!
I'm back at least briefly. It's not the 7-1 drubbing you'd called for but at 2-1 with only half an hour to play, this one is surely in the bag now.
If Drac is the hero on Sunday, will you will you still shop him in the summer.
Useless shot by Anderson... isn't he Brazilian? Can't they score from every position?
Almost a great pass by Gibson
I'm constantly surprised by Anderson. When you lot bought him, I can remember some YouTube clips of him circulating from his time in Brazil that showed him making surging Ronaldo-style runs that he's never done at OT. He's basically Butch Wilkins with a more exotic look.
I don't want him to leave
How is that a corner? Ah well...does nae matter.
Good description
United could make their THIRD European Cup Final in FOUR YEARS!!!
Not too shabby
Not too shabby. So who's going to slip in the penalty kicks this season?
Is Evra hurt? We need him for SUNDAY!
Now it's Jonny Evans down on the pitch. Landed awkwardly.
Strange looking socks you lot have.
I just hope we play better than we did against Barca last time
We were favorites! We should of scored in the first minute! Fell behind after 10 and then we were pants!
Leave our socks alone!
Did you see Birdseye is the new owner of Leeds?
Did you see Gradel turned down a move to Newcastle to sign a new contract at ER?
Huntelaar coming on... hope he's rusty
I saw that. Great news about Cap'n Birdseye and Maxi IMHO. I'm surprised that he didn't want a move to Newcastle. Most love the pie and mushy peas in Leeds.
STRUTH... another short corner.... what has Fergie been watching?
ANOTHER ONE
Smalling puts the ball in the net but offside... he almost missed!
Lots of dark jokes about "one less Arsenal fan" this week after the assassination of Bin Laden.
Under 20 to go
I hope this is the score with this much time left on Sunday
YES!!!
ANDERSON!!!!
I AM NO LONGER AT ALL NERVOUS!!!
Keeper could have done more
GOAL!
How's that for Anderson? A collector's item. Beat the whole Schalke back four and finally netted it. Don't know about the celebration, though.
I'm off again mate. Got to take my group out for an end of semester pint. Cheerio!
I like the joke
GET IT OVER NANI!!
Fletcher is on for Scholsey... he isn't banned for the Final!
Fletcher back after a long virus problem
He was sent off near the end of United's last semi final second leg...... harshly
Take care Bob... here's to a happy Sunday for all of us
YES!!!!!!!!!
BERBATOV VERY UNSELFISH SETS UP ANDERSON....
HE'S ON A BLOODY HAT-TRICK!!!!
WEMBLEY WEMBLEY
WE'RE THE FAMOUS MAN UNITED
AND WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY
WEMBLEY WEMBLEY
United make their final change.
Owen on for Berbatov
Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be, will be
We're going to Wembley
Que Sera Sera
Same score on Sunday please
Shalke gets the ball in the net but it is called back
A nice shot was well saved by VDS but the rebound was netted by Huntlehaar... but it was called offside... he was.. just!!!
OptaJoe on Twitter: "4 - Before tonight the biggest margin of victory over two legs in a Champions League semi-final was four goals. Cruising."
rh4vy on Twitter: "One of the most one sided Champions League semi finals you will ever see..."'
6 1 and counting
7 minutes to get five goals
Fox are putting an advertisement for the Final
Barcelona vs Man Utd/Shalke... they couldn't say this is over!!!
MikeWhyte82 on Twitter: "Once again Fergie proves the doubters wrong, picking players who are hungry and saving the big boys for Sunday."
One minute of the 90 to go
Edu hits one wide
3 added minutes
I AM NOW COMPLETELY CONFIDENT OF MAKING THE FINAL!!!
ooh Owen with a nice shot well saved
ooh, Evra was almost in
1 to go
THAT'S IT!!!!
MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE MADE THE EUROPEAN CUP FINAL FOR THE FIFTH TIME... SECOND AT WEMBLEY!!
LOVELY JUBBLEY!!
Just hope I feel this way on Sunday!!
Take care boys
