Carling Cup - First Round Live!
By 'eck! We've only just got started with the season and it's Carling Cup time already. London may be burning, but as far as I can tell, the poor man's knock-out tournament will get kicked off tonight. I'll of course have my eye fixed on the Yorkshire Derby between Bradford City and my beloved LUFC. We need a bounce back from Saturday's debacle. Come on, you Whites!

Hello everyone. The tournament is on, but the following matches have been postponed this evening :
Palace vs Crawley
Hammers vs Aldershot
Bristol City vs Swindon
Charlton vs Reading
I understand the Palace, Hammers and Charlton matches being off as they're all in the central rioting area but is there trouble as far south as Bristol?
I am not sure. It have a National Geographic map of Britain . Bristol is level in latitude with the southern tip of London, but is not too far from Cardiff.
I've got a link up through My Premium TV for the Gillette Soccer Special for this afternoon's festivities.
http://mypremium.tv/
It should be all change for Simon Grayson today. Becchio and Somma are long term injured at the moment. According to the club there were one or two knocks gathered on Saturday. And then there were the performances. I wouldn't be surprised to see Paul Rabchubka get a nod in goal and perhaps a couple of changes to the back four. May young Alex Bruce might get another chance in place of Andy O'Brien, who was shocking at St. Mary's.
Well, here is the team and I'm completely wrong. There are a couple of changes, though.
Leeds: Lonergan, Connolly, O'Brien, Kisnorbo, Parker, Brown, Clayton, Sam, Howson, Nunez, McCormack.
Gradel and Snoddy are missing on international duty so Sam and Nunez step into their places.
I agree 100%. Changes have to be made, but would there have been changes regardless since it is the Carling Cup.
Not too many changes. Sorry about that.
I went to that link and selected skysports 1 . Is that the correct selection?
I think it is as the announcer mentioned the west Yorkshire Derby.
We need to support Jeff as Hartlepool hosts the Blades.
And this looks pretty good for the big match:
http://exxtremegoal.weebly.com/
Yes - it's Sky Sports 1 as the link for that Gillette Soccer Special which will update all the matches and then the one I just posted for the Leeds v. Bradford.
It's the Fox Soccer Plus link.
Absolutely - let's go Hartlepool!
I think this it. Thanks, BD.
For what it's worth, the Bradford City side:
Bradford, Jansson, Branston, Mitchell, Threlfall, Moore, Flynn, Williams, Syers, Compton, Stewart, J. Hanson.
Subs: Oliver, McLaughlin, Hannah, Rodney, Wells, O'Brien, Jones.
Here we go with the FSP coverage of the big match. The link looks good.
Andy O'Brien started his career with Bradford City.
It's not that long ago when Bradford were a Premiership side with Dean Windass leading the line. How things have changed for both clubs!
So, the Bantams to get us underway. Come on, you Whites!
Great crowd inside Elland Road this afternoon.
First chance to swing a cross in is whiffed on by Connolly. Not impressive.
A few late challenges coming in from the Bantams early on here.
Lloyd Sam picks up an early corner.
I am back, BD. How has the early action been?
It's all Leeds possession so far. Good sign of things to come. Nunez with another corner here.
Kisnorbo met that corner well but drove well over the bar. Shame.
Lloyd Sam won a corner that was taken by Nunez and shot over by Kisnorbo.
Welcome back, mate. I'm pretty happy with the early running.
Bradford had a chance as Stewart shot at Lonergan
Awkward drive from Stewart there that was well dealt with by Lonergan.
Bradford fans giving the Elland Road faithful some of the "Who Are Ya?" routine now. Should be some good natured banter between the two sets of fans today.
Can you believe these teams met in the EPL just ten years ago? I disagree with the announcer that Bradford's only win vs Leeds was in the '86 Full Members' Cup. I thought Bradford won an EPL meeting vs Leeds.
Leeds fans should be asking that question.
Flynn tries an ambitious effort but doesn't really trouble Lonergan.
Flynn shot just over with a decent chance for Bradford.
That was a bit naughty from David Syers. And he should get a yellow from the ref.
Ben Parker still down getting treatment.
Ross McCormack has slipped a couple of times already. He needs some longer studs.
David Syers is booked for a foul on Ben Parker. I am not sure why he is complaining.
We're letting Bradford back into this match. Stewart with another chance there.
Come on!
Doncaster lead Tranmere 1-0 and Ipswich have just taken the lead vs Northampton.
Ipswich have followed up their 0-3 win over the weekend with a 1-0 lead against Northhampton Town.
Doncaster are also 1-0 up over Tranmere.
Good tackle by Kisnorbo on Syers.
I'd like a goal to settle the nerves inside the ground. The reaction to Saturday's match on 606 was fairly apoplectic .
That was nice from Nunez but McCormack wasted the opportunity with a poor square ball that didn't reach Sam. I'm not happy with Ross. He doesn't seem to get into the right places to do things.
Bloody hell - that was a dangerous ball by Flynn across our area!
Hey Guys,
I have the match on... how is it going?
Which link of premium Tv is the Gillette Soccer Special?
Michael Brown is getting booed by the Bradford crowd for some reason.
Lonergan's former club, Preston , take the lead vs Crewe then Crewe tie it up.Chesterfield lead at Rochdale and Millwall take the lead at Plymouth. Sorry BD.Shrewsbury take the lead at Derby, Macclesfield take the lead at Hull and Notts County take a surprise lead in the Nottingham Derby.
Hiya, UWS! Welcome. It's the Sky Sports 1 link on the MyPremium TV site that has the Gillette Soccer Special.
Good afternoon, UWS.
Oh - Clayton might have done better there. The ball was slightly behind him but he got that volley all wrong.
Southampton and Torquay are tied at 1-1, Rochdale have tied it up vs Chesterfield, Rotherham take the lead vs Leicester, and Peterborough lead at Stevenage.
Branston goes in heavy on McCormack and picks up Bradford's second yellow.
Cheers
Ah - McCormack had a chance to play Parker in but his ball was all wrong. Bring on Billy Paynter!
Middlesbrugh lead at Walsall and Wycombe lead Colchester 2-0.
Oh - Nunez had a glorious chance to put us one up and he blew it over the top. F--k sake, Ramon!
My link freezes right as the cross comes over... missed it!!!
COME ON! Lloyd Sam and Adam Clayton combined to set up Nunez who missed a sitter by volleying well over from close range.
The good news is that Clayton is looking better tonight. That was a delicious cross over to Nunez. It deserved a better finish.
That should have been 1-0 Leeds.
I wish I had missed it too. Unfortunately, I got to see the ball ballooned over the top in all its glory.
I think is Sky's coverage of the BIG match on the Sky Sports 2 link on prem tv
It is though 10 second behind
Threlfall is making a meal of that challenge by Clayton and he may be in some trouble here. No - it's just a bollocking.
I'm on this link for the match:
http://exxtremegoal.weebly.com/
It's Fox Soccer Plus coverage.
Oh - another chance for Nunez into the side netting. He might have squared it back to Howson.
I am too. I used your link from earlier. Just thought you'd like a second option
Another miss by the plonker!
Nunez shot wide from a narrow angle after great work by Howson. I thought he took too long.
I'll swap Ramon for Nani - what do you think?
County beating Forest
Coming up on the half hour mark. In all fairness, we should be 1-0 up. We're playing much better tonight than on Saturday but...it is an L2 team we're playing!
Oldham lead Carlisle 1-0, Port Vale lead Huddersfield 1-0 and Orient lead 1-0 at Southend.Colchester have pulled a goal back at Wycombe . They trail 2-1.
I knew he reminded me of somebody!
BUGGGGGGGGGERRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
The misery continues!
Oh Dear.... nice goal but where was someone stopping the run and where was the marking????
BLOODY HELL! JACK COMPTON SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE AFTER A GREAT RUN BY STEWART AS PARKER WAS BEATEN TO THE BALL. 0-1 BRADFORD.
The dangerous Stewart crossed and Compton beat a sluggish Ben Parker to it to put Bradford into the lead.
0-1!
Soccer Special is behind the match
Forest tie it up at the City Ground
Okay - quick response, lads. We cannot go in at the interval one-nil down. No way!
I think Ben Parker was guilty of not marking. He was supposed to be marking Compton.
Stewart and Compton played together at Falkirk.
It's fairly clear that we're going to leak some goals this season. We also scored a lot last season but that's still an open question with Becchio and Somma injured long term and no obvious replacements.
Crikey! That could have been a second for Bradford! What is going on?!
Hamson heads wide for Bradford as there is more chaos in the Leeds box.
I agree, MUR. Ben Parker looked slow off the mark there covering Compton.
Barnet take the lead at Pompey.
Coventry lead 0-1 at Bury and Cheltenham have taken the lead vs the fake Dons, much to the delight of the LOBers.Bury have tied it up vs Coventry.
This is a bit better from us. Better pressure there.
A poor pass by Clayton. It was useless.
Love it - MK Dons are losing. Brilliant!
Great run and cross by Connolly but where was the run by McCormack. He's bloody hiding from the action!
Shrewsbury now lead 0-2 at Derby.Make it 0-3 at Derby.
Another great cross in by Connolly but it was palmed away by the keeper.
Bradford escape as it was a pathetic punch by their keeper, but Leeds c did not take advantage.
Rubbish corner by Nunez. I can see I'm going to have a long season watching this lad.
Very one-footed stuff from Sam there.
The Blades have taken the lead at Hartlepool . Jeff and BD will not be pleased.
Last season we bounced back from an opening day loss at Derby by thumping Lincoln City 4-0 in the Carling First Round. I'm still hoping for the same tonight.
Not pleased.
I'd like Paynter on for McCormack right from the off in the second half.
I hope so too.
come on Leeds!
It looks as if Bradford will try to defend this lead for the rest of the match. We will get chances. Come on!
Great run by Howson, but Bradford packed their box.
Decent run and shot by Nunez there. He was claiming a corner and he was right. Cranston deflected it wide off the head.
Just wide by Nunez. that was a decent effort. Two minutes of stoppage time.
Into two minutes of stoppage time.
Colchester have come from 2-0 down as they are tied 2-2 at Wycombe.
Clayton went in late there and gets the caution.
Clayton has been booked for Leeds.
Oh - the free kick went all the way through to Syers who sliced it wide, thankfully.
Syers slices wide with a decent opportunity and Bradford lead 0-1 at the half.
Boos ringing the ground as the half time whistle go. Not good. The biggest problem with a few bad results in a row is that it might put some pressure on the board to sack Simon Grayson who isn't the problem IMHO. I like him and I hope he stays.
I will be a little late for the start of the second half as I have to pick up Jacquelyn from choir camp. See you later.
http://tykestv.eu/channel2.php
Good link for Sky's coverage
Now the link has buggered off for half time apparently
If you go to this link... keep your posts clean Bob
Peter Lorimer and Chris K on then panel
How many players are Leeds missing for internationals?
I heard an interview with Grayson saying there were some players missing
Interesting. I've just been listening to the Five Live Monday Club pod while doing some dishes. Steve Claridge commented on the Charity Shield that Citeh are £500 million worth of players who are put out to stop the opposition playing. Wow!
Yeah - we're missing Snoddy for Scotland and Gradel for the Ivory Coast.
I'm not sure that Snoddy is a loss tonight. I was a bit shocked by the lax nature of his performance on Saturday and I have to assume that he wants away. We might do well to try to get 4 or 5 million for him and let Nunez or Sam play in his spot wide right.
I was listening to the MNC yesterday... everyone except John Motson picked United to win the title. He had Chelsea winning the League and Champions League... has he gone senile!
Away you go for the second half.... five defenders named in the six subs!!
Other half time scores:
Cheltenham 1 MK Dons 1
Derby 0 Shrewsbury 3
Doncaster 2 Tranmere 0
Exeter 0 Yeovil 0
Hereford 0 Brentford 0
Hull 0 Macclesfield 1
Ipswich 1 Northhants 1
Forest 1 County 1
Oldham 1 Carlisle 0
Plymouth 0 Millwall 1
Port Vale 1 Huddersfield 2
LEEDS SCORE!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT A START!!
NANI WITH THE GOAL!!!
Leeds get underway in the second half and...
GOAL! Nunez comes good!
1-1!
Less than 40 seconds!
Derby scored early too
Are Leeds attacking their favorite end?
The Kop?
Sam did really well to work his way through and then McCormack dished off to Sam. Great finish that the keeper couldn't keep out.
Leeds faithful singing again.
"you're not singing, you're not singing, you're not singing any more'
Nunez scored a couple of times in pre-season but that's his official debut goal for Leeds.
Nani finished it well
Yeah - we're attacking the Kop now. Nice one!
Let's get another!
You didn't go as crazy as i thought you would have when that goal went in so early
I do think that Motty was well off the mark in that show. I'm not as down on Citeh as Claridge was (I think Mancini holds them back but that they're a good side otherwise) but no way are Chelski as good as Motty thinks. I've got them dropping out of the top four.
I was doing a wee dance here but it's hard to represent that on the blog.
Do these matches go straight to pens?
Extra time? Replay?
It's straight to extra time and then pens if necessary. I hope they're not. I want this lot finished off.
Marching On Together...we're going to see you win!!!!!
A few more exclamation marks would suffice!!!
I didn't put Chelsea out of the top four but not Champs.
I could see Citeh doing well in the CL.
STRUTH.. that was close.... I thought that was in!
Oh - bloody hell that was close from Syers. Whistled by the post. This one's not over by half.
Good clearance by Paddy after O'Brien was skinned again there.
Wow, Ipswich have now fallen behind at home to Northampton!
Oh - McCormack was away after Clayton's ball but his shot was well off the mark.
Oh - Jonny might have done better even though he didn't expect that ball to get to him.
The game seems to be opening up a bit more now. Lots of space.
BLOODY HELL
Bradford have scored again... nice goal!
Bugggggggggggerrrrrrr!
1-2 - Good finish from Flynn that Lonergan couldn't tip around.
I think Kasper would have saved it though!
Bugger - that's stunned the ER faithful. They don't know what is going to happen now!
That should have been another... a bad touch right at the wrong time!
Syers streaking through again now and only stopped by Lonergan.
I am back and I missed two goals for my troubles.
Syers is down for a long time now after picking up a knock.
Welcome back, mate. We're still under the cosh here after having equalized straight from the kickoff.
The ER faithful are gobsmacked
Forest take the lead against County
Pompey still losing at home to Barnet
Two subs being prepared. Two defenders? Lees and Bromby. I don't get it. We need a goal, Simon!
David Syers looks seriously injured as Leeds get ready to make a double substutution.
The Pride of Yorkshire.. Huddersfield....are winning 3-1 on the road at Port Vale
As I said earlier, FIVE of the SIX are defenders
Put a sock in that, UWS!
Syers is back on after having wasted five minutes time. No he's back off again.
Lees for Connolly and Bromby for O'Brien.Ritchie Jones , the former Man Yoo trainee,is on for Syers. I guess Lees is a signing from Bury.
THought you'd like that one
We were playing well right before the goal. We need to get that momentum back again.
Oh - Ramon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nani blows the chance!!!
@#*&( Nunez as Leeds broke from the Bradford free kick and Nunez played with the ball in the box when he should have shot.
You're a professional... use both feet!!!!
I can see where Nunez is frustrating to watch.
Nunez streaking through again causing havoc and then McCormack needed a few inches to convert Sam's cross.
Handbags between Moore and Bromby. Just a chat with the ref.
Silly boy
The ref uses common sense as there was handbags and makes the players aware of their responsibilities.
JUST LIKE NANI!!!!!
I thought you said Bromby had a long throw, not a long hoof, LOL.
Hanson goes down looking for a pen. Nothing doing. Great thrust and cut to this match now.
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ross comes good!
2-2!
YES!!!!!!!!!
WIN IT NOW
That's more like it... plenty of !!!!!!!!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! rOSS mCcORMACK MAKES IT 2-2 WITH A GREAT HEADER FROM A SUPERB CROSS FROM NEW BOY,LEES.
It was another sumptuous cross from Paul Connolly but this time Ross met it with aplomb. Great goal.
Now let's win it!
Great tip over by Lonergan.
My mistake - that was the debutante Lees who came on for Connolly. Super cross from him.
We are pleased that the corner was wasted.
Twenty minutes left for us now. Come on, you Whites!
Lees with an excellent block there. I like this kid already.
Stewart wins a corner for Bradford.
Bradford haven't stopped trying to win this
The Pride o Yorkshire are four one up
Brighton take the lead
The corner form Mitchell is cleared.
I can't believe MK are 1-4 up after trailing . STRUTH!!!
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
3-2! Nunez strikes again!
My mate, Nani, scores a brace
Nunez out to Sam, a great ball in, Branston deflected it past his keeper and Nunez finished off. Lovely!
