The Great Dress Rehearsal
We're a week out from the start of the Championship season and the Charity Shield, so this weekend is the last chance saloon for managers to sort out their squads for the beginning of the season. They'll also be praying that there aren't any serious injuries on dodgy MLS pitches today. If you're around today avoiding the heat outside, join me for all the fun.

Lovely link for Sky Sports this morning:

That'll keep everything organized. Now to find a link for a match.
Still looking for a good link for the Chelski v. Villa friendly.
There's something coming up on FSC as well but they don't give specific information on the TimeWarner guide.
Ah hah - the FSC match is Chelski v. Villa. It's apparently the final of some rinky dink Asian Challenge trophy that's been going on this week. A bit odd for two Premiership sides to meet each other this close to the season.
If that's the case, I'm going to put this one on the telly and search for the Man Citeh friendly against some Irish IX on the laptop.
AVB has put out Cech, Boswinga, Ivanovic, Terry, Jerkoff, Lamps, Mikel, McEachren, Sturridge, Anelka, Malouda
Villa: Given, Young, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Delph, Petrov, Albrighton, Ireland, Delfounso, Agbonlahor.
Still no room for Torres!
GOAL! Josh McEachren has poked home the opener in 35 seconds!
It could have been quicker too. Shay Given saved once from Anelka and again from Malouda before McEachren cleaned things up.
1-0 Blues!
The Hong Kong bandwagoners are definitely on the Chelski side. Not enough star power on the Vilal side, I suppose.
The "Dublin Cup" match between the Irish and Citeh starts up at the top of the hour. I'm curious to see the Citeh line-up after the Balo incident from last weekend.
The link I've got for the Citeh match is wrapping up the SPL match between St. Johnstone and Rangers. The champions are 0-2 up.
The coverage of the Citeh match has started. Good link on that one I posted earlier:
http://magictv.co/
Apparently Sergio Aguero is in Dublin with his new teammates but won't play today.
Apparently the Dublin Super Cup, which is all going to be televised consists of this match, Inter v. Celtic this afternoon, the Irish v. Celtic tomorrow and then tomorrow afternoon Inter v. Citeh.
Don't Celtic have an SPL match this weekend?
So, who has Mancini chosen? That's the big question in everyone's mind. Mancini is being interviewed now. Lots of chat about Aguero, of course.
Things have settled down a bit in the match in HK. Not too many chances since that whirlwind start.
Bloody hell - Richard Dunne looks absolutely shattered already. How hot is it in HK? Is he having a heart attack - he's soaked to the skin!
So, Mancini has put out a mainly young starting XI today against the Irish led by Gareth Barry and including SWP and Adam Johnson. Other than that it's a mainly unrecognizable side.
Mark Albrighton picks up a yellow for a nasty, late one on Jerkoff.
Given punches clear from the free kick as Citeh kick off in Dublin to a mostly empty stadium.
Of course we've got the rematch of the Champions League final tonight at 7pm and it is televised on ESPN2. I'll be watching - how about you?
Oh - SWP produces a great save out of the Derry keeper there. Palmed aside.
John Obi Mikel seems to be playing a more attacking role than usual today. It'll be interesting to see if he keeps that up with Michael Essien injured.
Anelka pulls another good save out of Given. It's been mainly Chelski in this half.
Half-time in HK. 1-0 Chelski due to that early, early Scott McEachren goal.
Half way through the first half in Dublin. Not a lot to get the small crowd going.
The first half is winding down in Dublin as we get started again in HK. The pace has really slowed to a crawl in both matches. The lads in HK have the excuse that it's really hot there. Not so much in Dublin.
Oh - Lamps has a headed chance that he should have buried. Gave Given a chance to save it.
Here comes Fernando Torres - he's smiling on the touchline but even he knows that his starting place is in doubt this season.
Goalscorer McEachren is trotting off. Drogba also coming on for Sturridge.
Blimey - that didn't take long. Torres!
Malouda had a speculative shot, slipping as he struck it. It was going wide and Torres glanced it home.
2-0!
The second half has started up now in Dublin.
In the gossip section today, Spurs are trying to nip Arsenal to the post in signing Valencia winger Juan Mata. I don't either side really needs a winger, do you?
Not really liking the looks of this Guidetti kid for Citeh. Big, lumbering, not very good.
Dunne is finally replaced - and not a moment too soon. I was really worried about him.
Kalou coming on for Lamps. Still 2-0 in HK.
Here's how boring the match is in Dublin. The cameramen cut away from the match a moment ago to show a lengthy shot of the Celtic and then the Inter lads coming off the bus!
0-0 in Dublin.
GOAL! As I type that, SWP breaks the deadlock for Citeh! 0-1!
And now it's 0-2! It's Adam Johnson popping up on the left - his proper position - for once and he pokes home naturally with his left boot.
Coming to the end of the Asian Challenge Final in HK. Chelski strolling it.
Oh - the Irish should have pegged one back there. Shocking miss!
Chelski have wrapped up their Asian Challenge Trophy, for what it's worth. The real stuff will start in two weeks but they look up for it already.
What must Alex McLeish think, though? Out of the frying pan and into the bloody fire!
Twenty minutes left to play in Dublin.
Chelski going up to collect their medals now.
GOAL! Scarpuzzi the substitute comes on to slot home the third for Citeh.
Adam Johnson was the provider there as he slid through a lovely ball.
That's it in Dublin. The Citeh youngsters run out 0-3 winners today. Mancini will definitely take something from the decent form of SWP and especially Adam Johnson there.
I'm off for a shower before the Arsenal match with Boca Juniors starts up.
I'm joining the Arsenal v. Boca Emirates Cup match fifteen minutes in. Still 0-0.
GOAL! RVP converts a pass from Gervinho!
More evidence that the new boy Gervinho is settling in nicely. He received the ball out wide left and immediately attacked the fullback before drilling a ball into the danger area. RVP made no mistake.
1-0!
And then Arshavin shows why he's yesterday's man. In a similar position, he runs down a blind alley before going out of touch for a goal kick. Poor.
Another great ball from Gervinho and Nasri was nearly on to it.
Even Arsenal turncoat Cesc Fabregas had to applaud that last move.
Riquelme has got a chance from a free kick here. No - he's left it for Rivera.
Arsenal have taken the foot off the gas as the first half nears its end. Surely, there will be wholesale changes at the interval.
Not sure about this Arsenal kit at all. Dark blue with an off kilter sky blue triangle in the middle of it.
Everton have beaten Birmingham City in a friendly this morning.
Half-time: Gervinho again impressive today in his home debut, setting up the lone goal in this affair.
I'm off to fix some lunch.
Teams back out at the Emirates. Vela is coming on for Gervinho and Ramsey for Wilshere at the start of the half.
GOAL! Ramsey scores with his first touch!
2-0!
Wenger looks like a genius as Vela weaves his way into the area and then dishes off to Ramsey who slams home.
GOAL! Boca have got one back! A bit soft at the back, particularly from Squillaci. Boca with numbers over and Viatri took full advantage.
2-1!
Spurs have beaten newly promoted Brighton 2-3 today.
Inter are not surprisingly 0-2 up against Celtic in that rinky dink tournament in Dublin.
Bloody hell! It's 2-2 now! More dodgy defending from the Arse. More boos from the crowd now.
And fifteen minutes to play now. Will we see a winner?
More evidence there that Arsenal's back four and goalkeeping situation are not right. They won't win anything with the likes of Squillaci at the center of defense and Mannone in goal.
Just a few minutes left. It seems to be petering out to a draw. This is almost a carbon copy of the Hangzhou match last weekend. Very bright in the first half but depressingly familiar in its defensive lapses in the second half.
Wolves have seen off Ipswich 1-2 today.
So that's that. 2-2 at the end.
Next up for the Arse - the Red Balls tomorrow.
I'm off to do some work but I'll be back here at 7pm for the Barca v. United match.
I'm back just before 7pm waiting for the beginning of the ESPN2 coverage to start. I've just had a call from my brother that he's behind one of the corner flags. I'll be looking out for him.
Here we go then. United v. Barca coming right up.
Rooney's wearing the long-sleeve under-armor again - WTF?
The team news out of Landover, MD tonight:
Barca: Valdes, Abidal, Fontas, Iniesta, Thiago, Afellay, Keita, Busquets, Dos Santos, Villa, Pedro.
United: De Gea, Vidic, Evra, Evans, Rafael, Young, Nani, Cleverley, Anderson, Welbeck, Roon.
Hey Bob
Is he low enough to see?
Which corner?
Evening, UWS - how are you mate?
Not quite sure which corner he's in - the reception on his phone was pretty bad. He is low enough to see though. I'll be watching whenever there's a corner.
We're off
United get us started, then.
What do you make of this line-up for United?
Oh - Young had a chance to pick out Roon there when he sent away but he merely found Valdes.
Good evening UWS and BD. I just arrived at the motel in San Antonio. Is the match televised? Do you have a link?
Busquets has been in the wars a couple of times and he's down again after a rugged challenge from Anderson.
Evening, MUR - it's on ESPN2. Do you have that in the motel?
This looks like an experimental lineup . Some players are playing for a starting spot and some just to make the squad of 25?
I will check. Thanks, BD.
Why no Chicharito? I don't get it. Is he injured?
If you don't have it, this one is working:
http://exxtremegoal.weebly.com/
YES!!! It's on. Thanks, BD.
Fantastic!
Now it's Rafael down on the turf.
Raffa is down injured as I am watching the match on ESPN 2.
Apparently The Gooner is quite low to the pitch behind one of the corner flags. I'll be trying to pick him out when we have some corners.
Wee Pea got a concussion during practice this week. He is out for at least two weeks
It doesn,t look good for Raffa and we sold O'Shea. He could fill in.
I will need to look at your post,UWS. I am interested to look at the World Cup draw.
The defensive choices on the bench:
Smalling, Rio, Jones, Fabio.
Raffa headed out a Barca cross for a corner and that is it for him.
The corner is cleared and United keep possession.
I think the draw was kind to England. We had a 50/50 shot at getting France at the end there. Instead, we pulled Montenegro again out of Pot B.
As usual, the route for the US is relatively trouble free.
One bro for another.
One twin on for the other.
England should have no excuses. They should be able to handle the Montenegrans.
We are a bit thin at both fullback positions.
You'd think so, especially after having experienced them in EURO qualifying this time. No secrets. There was speculation on some of the blogs today that Jose Mourinho might take over from Don Fabio after next summer.
Just too far by Affelay as he atempted to get in the cross.
Can't Phil Jones push over to fullback position or is he strictly a central defender?
I don't see that happening. The smart money is on Harry picking up a big paycheck and then he can retire.
Oh - Afellay with a dangerous ball over. I thought David De Gea might have come for that.
GOAL! My boy Nani!!!!!!
YES!
I THINK NANI WAS OFF
Nani looked streets offside there as he was played through but the replay shows he was level with Abidal as he streaked through. Great finish!
1-0 United!
Welbeck delayed the pass... maybe just on!
United have been hopeless until then!
Do you still want to send Nani our way, UWS?
YES!!!! 1-0 AS UNITED COUNTER OFF THE CORNER AND WELLBECK DOESW A SUPERB JOB OF FINDING NANI WHO FINISHES SUPERBLY PAST VALDES. HE WAS ONSIDE.
I was reading some your comments that I missed.
Jones played fullback last Wednesday and kept TH14 quiet
Bob will be pleased . I think we should not be so hasty as to ship off to ER.
Did not see The Gooner behind that corner flag as Nani flipped over. I'm going to keep looking.
That answers our question, UWS. Jones can play both positions. This will come in handy as we will be hallenging in several competitions.
We will need to look for Cal too!
As for the WC, I was watching a link for Sky Sports News. They weren't there but they were keeping up to date all the time
The guy was getting more and more nervous and the teams from Pot A got drawn. France were sitting there and England kept on not getting picked.... a 50/50 chance when only two remained... he almost cheered as England was picked for Group H
Can I just say it again... ANDERSON SUCKS!
I said it all the time on Wednesday. HE CAN'T PASS!!!
Based on our comments , Jones is a much better value for money than Jordan Henderson. Our signings are basically the missing pieces in the puzzle while Henderson ???????
Nice tracking back there from Ashley Young.
I don't rate Jordan Henderson at all.
Dos Santos is boked for that really poor challenge on Ashley YToung Looked the right fool there.
Anderson is Dunga with braids.
Are you using UWS' iPad tonight, MUR?
;-}
Prior to the booking, United made two great defensive challenges and Barca players sat down looking for a foul.
Close, BD. I normally use a deskyop, but I am using a crappy laptop from work.
Iniesta's down now. This is not so friendly tonight.
No worries, mate. Just teasing you two.
Iniesta is down injured for Barca. Looked accidenatal by Evra.
Barca are starting to play it about for fun here.
I can't believe how bad United are defending!!
Why give them so much time>
Wide by affelay as his effort went across the face of the goal.
Again, as Afellay shot across goal there, I'm not sure why De Gea isn't saving that.
Poor by David Villa as he lets the ball run out of play while attempting to cross.
Rumor has it that United have asked Sneijder to lower his wage demands
Great stuff from my boy Nani there as he got to the bye-line and won a corner.
WOW.. United didn't do a short corner
I agree. Lindegaard should start vs Chelski next Sunday. The cross went out for a United corner.
Come on Young.. cut in and shoot!
Citeh next Sunday..not Chelski
Young should be playing on the right side, if at all.
You really don't like Ashley... do you?
Barca countered through Affelay, then he passed to Villa whose shot was blocked . He fouled Evans.
Nani is playing well tonight
Correct UWS. It is Citeh.
Correct UWS. It is Citeh.
Pep is jeans and ragged polo shirt!
I think he's an ordinary player and you already have to right sided wide players who are as good if not better in Nani and Valencia IMHO. He's surplus for you. Sneijder on the other hand would fill the Scholes hole.
I agree. Nani has been United's best player and Affelay has been Barca's best player. He seemed to pull his hammy.
That is unusual for the normally sartorial Pep.
United leaving tonight at 1 am.... having they had a good time over here!!
Nice ball there from Young, eh?
We do need to Scholes role. I think Young is on as a replacement for Giggs, who will see really limited playing time this season as he is about to retire.
Scholes made the point this week that he doesn't need to be replaced. He didn't play in the big games anyway
Terrible marking by United and ever a worse dive by Pedro
Schenijder would be the ideal replacement for Scholes. Great tackle by Fabio.
Kobe in the stands.. who cares
Kobe Bryant in the crowd for no apparent reason.
The problem is that if no one plays behind the front pairing, Roon will drop back into there.
Is this match tape delayed? I think he just mentioned the WC draw in the future tense?
Half time and United are LUCKILY leading!
Not happy with the display
As for Young, I think you are going to be wrong. He is going to be United and England's top star!
United lead 1-0 at halftime. Sccholes did play a fair number of games, even at the end of his career, but I guess Carrick plays that role in a manner of speaking.
Half-time - how are United still leading 1-0?
If we're on tape delay... call Steve and let me know the score!
I agree . I could care less about Kobe. I agree with UWS that Ashley Young is a good buy for United and I think he is a replacement for Giggs.
I agree . I could care less about Kobe. I agree with UWS that Ashley Young is a good buy for United and I think he is a replacement for Giggs.

I agree . I could care less about Kobe. I agree with UWS that Ashley Young is a good buy for United and I think he is a replacement for Giggs.
I'll wager anything that Nani scores more goals for United than Young unless they flog him.
Giggs was at least a natural left-sided player. Why buy a right-sided winger to replace Giggs?
I think we will see Nani on the right and Young on the left. He will replace Giggs, who is being phased out.
I'll be dusting off the boots and heading out to play in my first competitive match in yonks tomorrow morning. Could easily end in tears.
Good old Macca - he was in favor of sacking Don Fabio at the WC.
Is this match taped delay one day as Max Bretos said that Klinsmann was just appointed. I agree with Macca that Capello should have left once Germany eliminated England from the World Cup.
The fourth placed CONCACAF side to meet an Oceania team for a place? Ridiculous!
Is this match taped delay one day as Max Bretos said that Klinsmann was just appointed. I agree with Macca that Capello should have left once Germany eliminated England from the World Cup.
Is this match taped delay one day as Max Bretos said that Klinsmann was just appointed. I agree with Macca that Capello should have left once Germany eliminated England from the World Cup.
That is weird - the MLS website has it listed as a 7pm start.
Wow Bob.. you're playing again.. well done mate
I agree with MUR and Macca about Fabio
I also agree with MUR on his point he made FOUR times!!!
That is ridiculous. It's all politics as everything is being done to get as many South American teams in the next World Cup just because Brazil are the hosts.
Your brother is on tape delay too!!!!
I made the point four times because poor Ashley Young was being unfailrly ridiculed. I did'nt realze it was that many times.
I made the point four times because poor Ashley Young was being unfailrly ridiculed. I did'nt realze it was that many times.
Macca is definitely not a ManYoo fan - he wants Barca goals!
Totally unfair
Totally unfair

I was on the road today, so I will look at UWS's post about WC 2014 once this match ends.
I met a German colleague recently who has a regular match on Sundays. I thought I would check it out but I'm not that optimistic. I really don't like playing 11 v. 11 on a full pitch anymore. But he's got an in on a 5-aside team that plays indoors in the winter. That might be more my speed.
I would not expect Macca to support United due to his Scousesox/ Citeh connections. He should hate Barca too due to his Real connections.
Kobe is a decent pen there!
My boy Nani - what a hero!
Fergie - a US history buff - who knew?
Barca get us underway in the second half. Roon has gone off. Giggs and Owen on.
The second half is underway from RFK.
To think I knew everything about SAF !!!
Giggs for Anderson, Owen for Rooney ,Smalling for Evra. UWS will be pleased that Anderson is done for the day.
Giggs for Anderson, Owen for Rooney ,Smalling for Evra. UWS will be pleased that Anderson is done for the day.
Nai crosses straight to Valdes as he was put through by Wellback.
