I'll Be There!

I won't be around to make any comments but I hope you keep the home fires burning. Our seats are in the third row of the top section in the top right corner when looking at the benches.... should I make a sign... Joel Mow The Lawn(where did we go when we made that sign Bob?)

I hope the score is the same as it was when MUR went to the original last season

I will be looking for you. By the way you are getting spoiled with three matches in a matter of weeks.

Though I think an oxygen tank is probably going to be of more use up there in the Alpine rows of RedBall Arena, it's past time to redisplay that sign Davey. Get the poster board and those markers out STAT!

Have fun.

Have fun at the match Dave! You will have a blast.

Blow kisses to TH14 from me.

The arena isn't that big so I don't think oxygen is needed.

What is the third game? I only went to the Union Everton match and this one

Thanks for starting the thread, mate. I'm off for my weekly spot of tennis in a moment but I'll be back for match time.

Double-T may not like it but it should be quite the spectacle tonight. Enjoy!

I'm back at 8:20, waiting for the ESPN coverage to start up. Not much hype on the All-Star game this year. Shame it's not on FSC if they're treat it like this.

8:22 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I may have to abandon you lot tonight as a couple of my tennis buddies may be showing up later for the match. I'll need to be less geeky and more social with them.

8:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good evening, BD. ESPN 2 has finally gone to the all star game.

8:31 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The ESPN coverage has started hosted by Max Bretos with Big Red, Double T and Macca on board.

I've just noticed UWS' question embedded in the original post. I believe that we made that sign to mock Joel Hunter who wasn't allowed to go to see the cricket at The Oval with us - hence "Joel, Mow the Lawn," which as I remember got on camera.

8:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The idiots : Lex Max, and Taylor Twellman are broadcasting. They are an all star team if by all stars you mean morons. Shaggy is the only decent announcer.

8:32 PM

Evening, MUR!

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Henry and Becks in the starting XI for the MLS tonight. Get the bums in seats, right from the start.

8:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That is a really interesting story about Joel Hunter.

8:34 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Who are you calling "Shaggy," MUR?

8:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hope United score early like they did last year.

8:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Macca was know as Shaggy during his playing days. I may be incorrect.

8:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

SAF has put out a full strength lineup, as he did last year, with the exception of Chicharito. He has a concussion and is in the hospital as a precautionary measure.

8:37 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yodelay-Man-Yooooo!

Boys, I can't agree about Lexi. I admire him for being so in the tank for the MLS and American soccer. Twellman and Bretos you can have. Ian Darke less of a chore

Have you seen Phil Jones play yet?

8:54 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Boy, that's some North Korean style card display, eh? Fail.

8:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hello Gooner. I saw him play a couple of times and he has been inconsistent. He looks like a veteran at times and shaky at other tines.

8:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The match is underway.

8:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I was noticing those cards. It looks really odd.

8:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Carrick attempted to put Park through, but it was just over hit.

8:58 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Seriously poor. Kim Jong Il is having a belly laugh over that.

8:58 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I'm a bit narked off that there aren't any DC United guys this year. Pontius? De Ro? Brandon McDonald? Charlie Davies? It's an insult.

9:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The All Stars win their first corner that eludes everyone and United break.

9:01 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

To be honest, I am not really familiar with a lot of the MLS players , and which ones are playing tonight.

9:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I wonder what UWS was thinking when he saw those cards.

9:03 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Too easy for Cummings to get away from Vidic there.

You wonder whether the United boys are taking this seriously. Still, he should avoid the hair-dryer.

Wow, Chicarito must have taken a hell of a knock. The English clubs don't even list concussion usually.

Good break by the all-stars.

9:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Just wide by Becks after some great passing.

9:03 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

UWS was probably directing them!

9:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hope United do. They sure did last year at Reliant. I would love to see them hammer the All Stars again.

9:04 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

9:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

He did great job. They were all in sync!!!

9:04 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, as I've noted, I've got nothing invested in the all stars. Seeing them put to the sword is not a problem for me.

9:05 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think both Lindegaard and De Gea have done a decent job. Neither has committed any errors on this tour.It is still too early to tell who is number one. I guess Lindegaard has the slight edge.

9:06 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

...and some call him, Dracula

9:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Drac is flagged offside to end a promising move after an all star defender gifted possession just outside the box.

9:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

He needs to be more consistent to earn the full name , Dracula.

9:08 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I like Northern Europeans in the nets myself. Lehman was a kook, but very good for us. Meanwhile, the Spanish Waiter still draws a salary at the Em.

9:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I see your point. I guess the exception is Reina at Liverpool. The Northern Europeans are better at crosses, so Lindegaard has the edge. SAF seems to have that opinion.

9:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Linesman sees the funny side of it after having a laugh with Evra as he he was hit in the stomach with a clearance.

I didn't have any problem in my six and a half years there. Some people are overly sensitive to any climatic nuances.

9:13 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That lino action was pretty unusual. Why was he worried about getting in the way? Was he in play? Anyway, he took it well and managed not to impale himself on his flag,

9:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon nearly put Drac through, but Mondragon was out to gather.

9:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The ALL Star forward shot right at Lindegaard.

9:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YES!!! 1-0 UNITED AS ANDERSON PUTS UNITED UP AFTER GREAT COMBO PLAY FROM ROON AND DRAC.

9:16 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I think Bob has people in the flat watching with him and wanted to be nice to his guests.

They were lining up for that final ball and Anderson takes his chance well.

Goal and 1-0 United.

9:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I bet Bob is pleased to see the All Stars trailing. I hope UWS is going bonkers.

9:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think the linesman was out of play; he just wasn't in the best position.

9:18 PM

I'll be there. Amazingly, that match turned out to be a bone thrown to DCUnited season ticket holders. I'm still in shock about it.

9:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon is giving the ref some lip as he is unhappy with the foul.

9:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The free kick from Ashley Young is cleared out for a throw.

9:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon shoots well over from long range.

9:23 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, it's more fun to see TH14 still competing in the MLS. Michael Carrick is playing Thierry tough and it's too much for him.

9:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Th 14 may be scoring lots of goals in MLS, but he has done naught tonight.

9:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

What a save as Lindegaard tips over superbly from Brad Davis' long range effort.

9:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner is cleared.

9:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Phil Jones does well on TH 14 after a superb long ball. It was assisted by control from TH 14.

9:26 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Davis has a nice crack on goal. Harkes calls for his inclusion into the US squad conveniently forgetting Donovan, Dempsey, Holden, Fielhaber, Torres, Klesjan, etc. Midfield, the US is pretty deep. We need forwards and defenders.

9:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thought Davis fouled Drac.

9:27 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. One long range effort does not merit inclusion in the squad. As you stated, we need help in other areas.

9:28 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

He was all over him like a rash.

Olave did his groin stretching to deny Rooney.

9:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Both sides take a water break due to the humid conditions. Why are Roon and Ashley Young wearing long sleeve under armor in these conditions?

9:29 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Evidently, Jason Kreiss can't get a dial-tone because Olave is going to continue. Howls from Salt Lake ensue,

9:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Lets get a second United!

9:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Come on Ref! that was foul by the All Stars just outside the United box.

9:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mondragon tips over from Roon.

9:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner from Ashley Young is cleared.

9:34 PM

United nearly score off the short corner , but Phil Jones was flagged offside.

9:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

who came on for the injured Olave?

9:36 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Cameron?

9:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thank you Gooner.

9:38 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, Cameron from the Dynamo. He's not terrible.

9:38 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

So he plays in Texas.

9:39 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Deep in the heart, yo.

9:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YES !!! 2-0 UNITED AS PARK SCORES WITH A SUPERB FINISH AFTER TONS OF UNITED PASSES.

9:41 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

There it is. Maybe the United player I admire most, Park rifles it in. Not only is he a hell of a worker, he has a great scoring record. He's good for 8-9 a season.

9:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

we enter stoppage time as United score at the perfect time and the ref blows for halftime. UWS must be screaming with joy.

9:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree Gooner. He has never let the team down. Wilshere is the Gunner I admire the most.

9:43 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, true that. I wouldn't wish some ridiculous fluke of an MLS victory with Davey and the lads in the house. And now, TH14 can score a goal and you'd still win.

I made a big meal tonight and still I'm thinking about a snack. Back after a bit.

9:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

enjoy the meal Gooner. Lexi Twellman are whining about Becks getting to far forward and hogging the ball at the expense of Davis . They act as if he is the only real All Star. Kudos to Macca for changing the subject.

9:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The teams are coming out of the tunnel. The possession may have been fairly even , but United shreaded the All Star defense several times.

9:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Becks and SAF share a laugh. I guess Becks forgives him for that shiner eight years ago.

9:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway.

9:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Allstars made five changes at halftime.

10:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ben Amos is on for Lindegaard.

10:00 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Nice to see that SAF and Becks are on speaking terms again.

Necterines are awesome right now. We get them from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and they're perfect this time of year.

10:01 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon is fouled yet again, this time about thirty yards from goal.

10:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That should have been 3-0 as Carrick missed his kick.

10:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I like nectarines. You said you were fixing a big meal. Is it anything exciting?

10:03 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I missed that delusional chit-chat. I know that Lexi must be diappointed, but he's a football guy and a smart one. He's gotta know that there's a very big gulf in class between these two teams.

A better match would be United against the Galaxy, but I still think the gulf in class would be insurmountable for the MLS.

10:03 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I made pasta. I blend up sundried tomatoes, garlic, a handful of filbert nuts, a shallot, and some bell peppers with ricotta and olive oil. When it's a paste, I mix that with pasta and just a little of the water and serve it with broccoli.

Nice balance from Drac after his excellent chip. Wallop, 3-0

10:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YES !!!! 3-0 uNITED AS DRAC HELD OFF HIS MARKER AFTER A SUPERB PASS FROM ROON. HE CHIPPED THE KEEPER, IT CAME OFF THE BAR THEN HE VOLLEYED IN HIS OWN REBOUND INTO AN EMPTY NET.

10:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I wish I were there to sample some food. It sounds really delicious!

10:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The fans are really quiet now that United are up by three goals. Are you shouting, UWS?

10:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I will try next summer. We have some expenses this year that made it difficult to travel. I didn't even go to Florida this summer.

10:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wondo had a shot blocked, then Omar Gonzales headed well wide.

10:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon's weak chip is easily caught by the new All Star keeper.

10:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United is about to make a quintuple substitution. Smalling , Owen, Wellbeck, Macheda, and one other come on.

10:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ashe is on as that is four Dynamo players on the pitch according to Ian Darke.

10:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kyle Beckerman easily dispossessed the Boy Wonder .

10:17 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I think Lexi is disappointed because in the past, the MLS teams and even the all-stars have played close matches against foreign visiting teams. DC United has beaten or tied Leeds, Celtic, Spurs(you know I loved that!), Forest, Leverkusen, Pompey in an exhibition setting.

But recently, I've seen the foreign teams come in knowing that if they take us lightly, we'll embarrass them. So they don't.

But I wonder if what's also changed is what's changed in with the national team; that we're very light in quality defenders and absolutely desperate for scoring talent. We don't have McBride or Eddie Pope any more, and we're trying to do it with Wondolowskis and trying to keep the score down with Reams.

Here comes Welbeck, and I thought I saw Marcheda. I love Welbeck's movement in the box. If he puts it together, he'll be lethal. But will Welbeck get a chance with Roon and Chic and Drac ahead of him?

10:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Omar Bravo shoots wide after Lindegaard fumbled a long range effort.

10:18 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

What about Tom Cleverly. Is he still a United player or has he moved permanently to... Wigan? West Brom?

10:19 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I'm not moving Dave. And I know about expenses. When you can.

10:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That is why Wellbeck went out on loan to Sunderland. He will probably need to move to get regular first team football. I do agree that the U.S.need help at forward and defense. How about UWS and BD?

10:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cleverley is a United player. He went out on loan to Wigan last season and kept them up.

10:21 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bravo should have scored. He rushed that too much when he could have been more settled.

10:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I would like to come up next summer.

10:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YES!!! I LOVE IT. WELLBECK MAKES IT 4-0 AS HE GOT HELP WITH THE DEFLECTION.

10:22 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Lucky deflection but the scoreline reflects the tenor of the match. And it's that lovely mover, Welbeck who scores.

10:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Anderson did well to spot Wellbeck open on the left.

10:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United are not at their best. What would score be during the middle of an EPL season?

10:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hear two or three fans shouting. I wonder if one of them is UWS?

10:25 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I think Cleverly's ready for prime time. It would be a shame for his momentum to be stymied. He's really excellent.

Not as keen on Marcheda. He's spectacular at times, but not consistent enough. I can see him shipped out as some point, not because you need to sell him, but because he's learned all he can from the experience.

10:27 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fabio is on for Anderson. and Vidic is off.Raffa scored with his first touch on Saturday.

10:28 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

4 goals to the good will make the 3 hour trip back to Scotia pretty pleasant.

10:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Macheda went out on loan to Sampdoria last season. It didn't do much good as they ended up being relegated. We had a similar player to him in the late 60's and early 70's called Carlo Sartori. He ended up going to Italy to get regular football.

10:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I had to spend the night in a motel last year . It was a five hour trip to Reliant, and some of those rural roads are not lit at night. Not a bad drive for UWS.

10:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thought Landy would be playing . He had a legitimate excuse last year as the Galaxy were getting ready for a CONCACAF CL GAME.What is his excuse this year?

10:33 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Even as open as this game is with all the subs, the MLS striker can't finish a golden opportunity. Lexi's probably ready to tear his mike off and stalk away.

10:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nani with the tricks and then the poor pass. Ia m sure UWS is heckling him for that.

10:34 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Landy's getting his tin heart oiled.

10:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now another poor pass, this time from Fabio. Are United trying to keep the score down.

10:35 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I love it. Casey Keller getting the send off a legend like he is deserves. He gave us some amazing moments.

10:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Landy had a better excuse last year. I see that Kasey Keller is getting ready to make a cameo appearance. A classy move, but he should have started. that will give him two appearances against United in consecutive weeks.

10:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wellbeck was through, but it was great defending to hold him off.

10:38 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Phil Jones concedes a corner, giving a chance for the All Stars.

10:39 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Oooooh. Aguedelo should have battered that in but decided to pass it and behind a man running in.

And then Welbeck got muscled off the ball when you'd have banked on that being #5.

10:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner is headed out and Jewsbury has a shot deflected for a corner.

10:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nani broke from the next corner and won a corner from United that Keller caught.

10:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fabio commits a foul just outside the box.

10:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Becks curls in a free kick and it hits the side netting. Amos did not know too much about that one.

10:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Evra ends up hitting the side netting.

10:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into stoppage time.

10:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

There will be only one minute of stoppage time.

10:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That's it as United win 4-0 and it could have been so much more , but they showed a great deal of mercy to the so called All Stars.

10:46 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Cameron sorts out the comic chaos at the back. He's been good since he came on for Olave. If he's a Yank, he should be given a look.

4-0 is a pretty good reflection of the match. Harkesy, TT, and Lexi are treating the all stars as if they aren't an rag-tag bunch brought together for a one-off game. Lunacy to think they were ever going to put up a win against United.

10:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Roon and Becks sharing a laugh and SAF showing some class during the interview by complementing the All Stars. He is discussing the clash with Barca on Saturday.

10:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. As I stated, it could have been more. UWS should enjoy the ride home.

10:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now the clowns are trying to have an intelligent conversation and not succeeding.

10:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Twellman is making excuses for the Allstars that they did not have enough time to train. Was that the case when they were undefeated while he played for the Allstars?

10:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Park is named MVP. He is excited about the match with Barca.

10:52 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I guess I have to agree with TT that at least, the all-stars could have run out a 4-3-3 formation which would have given them more chances to score. I agree, but I do think that United would have fed upon the stranded defenders if the all-stars had pushed forward.

Park the MVP? I guess, why not?

10:54 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bravo and that Jamaican forward didn't do us any favors by running into the least dangerous areas of the field. TT, injuries aside knew where the goal was even if he needed a few bites at the cherry to score. Now Brian McBride? In his prime, as good a striker as has been seen in the MLS. Maybe the best.

10:57 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Cheerio Dave. I'll be at the match on Saturday and then running around like a crazy man Sunday before Melanie and I fly off to Sweden for 10 days. Steve.

10:59 PM

I would have started McBride. either way, they could handle United, who were not even at their best.

10:59 PM

Thanks for keeping the LOB home fires burning this evening, lads. I'm sorry to abandon you. I had a couple of my tennis mates over unexpectedly after the game today. I enjoyed reading your comments. Bit of a clinic from United, who are looking a bit ominous already in pre-season. But didn't the "All-Stars" tee them up nicely for that display!

Crikey - well Gulati and Garber need to know just how short of the mark the MLS still is.

Hey Fellas,

Had a great time with Tom and Matt
We had great seats to the left of the camera on the same side. We were at the end that United were attacking in the second half

Lots of fun. I have seen United play three times in the US in recent times
United 4 Juventus 1
United 1 AC Milan 1 (lost on PKs thanks to miss by Howard!)
