A Day of International Friendlies
Come join us for a day of international friendlies. We were looking forward to England vs Holland , but it has been cancelled due to rioting in London. There is other action, including the U.S. vs Mexico from Philly which airs at 9 PM on ESPN 2. Jurgen Klinnsman makes his debut as manager of the U.S. national team. The only competitive match is the EURO qualifier between Norther Ireland and the Faroes from Belfast. It is a must win match for the Ulstermen if they have any hope of finishing in a playoff spot. A win would put them one point ahead of Slovenia and one point behind Serbia , with a game in hand over the Serbians. The quarterfinals of the Under 20 World Cup are in progress as England faces Nigeria.

Great news as Northern Ireland lead the Faroes 1-0 through a 6th minute goal by Aaron Hughes. They historically, have had a difficult time vs the lesser teams.
Italy lead Spain 1-0 through Riccardo Motolivo. Scotland have taken the lead over Denmark thanks to an og by William Kvist. It is still Wales 0 Aussies 0
Evil Cardiff lead 0-1 at Oxford in the Carling Cup.
It is Ireland 0 Croatia 0, from Dublin.
I am watching Germany vs Brazil on espn3.com and it is still 0-0 with ten minutes remaining in the half. The referee is the same one that officiated the CL final at Wembley in May.
Close as Kross shoots just over from a free kick that was from just outside the box.
At 35 years of age, this official was the youngest to officiate a CL Final.
Pato dribbled through the German defense, but shot well wide. Neymar is starting despite a supposed sore throat.
The announcer stated that Brazil have been poor.
Cacao was born in Brazil, but is a naturalized German. He is on the bench and would love to play in his home stadium as the match is being played in Stuttgart.
A useless cross by the Germans.
Trasch shot wide from long range, but the shot was deflected off of Thiago Silva.
Neymar shot well wide.
The ref blows for halftime and the Germans should be the happier team as seven of the starters would be young enough to play for the Under 21 team. This is creditable considering Brazil have put out a strong lineup.
it is 0-0 at halftime.
Scotland have just taken a 2-1 lead over Denmark through Snodgrass. BD will be pleased.
The Aussies lead Wales 0-1 in Cardiff thanks to a goal from Tim Cahill. Spain have tied it up in Italy and Oxford United have tied it up vs Evil Cardiff in the Carling Cup.
Northern Ireland lead the Faroes 1-0 at halftime.
In true MUR tradition, I missed Germany taking the lead while I was picking up Jacquelyn from choir camp.
The match is being played in the aptly named Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Robbie Kruse of Fortuna Dusseldorf, has put the Aussies 0-2 up in Cardiff.
GOAL!!! 2-0 AS MARIO GUTZE PUTS GERMANY 2-0 UP AS HE RECEIVED A SUPERB THROUGH BALL FROM TONI KROOS AND ROUNDED JULIO CESAR FOR A TEXTBOOK FINISH.
This makes Brazil look really bad when a full strength team trails what is practically and under 21 team. The two youngsters combined superbly for that goal.
They sliced through the center of the Brazilian defense with relative ease.
Brazil wins a penalty as Phillip Lahm fouls Danny Alves in the box. A stonewall penalty.
Robinho sent Neuer the wrong way from the spot and it is now 2-1.
Klose went down too easily in the box upon a challenge from Thiago Silva.
Ganso, the debutant , is booked for a challenge on Thomas Mueller.
The free kick eludes Max Hummels and Julio Cesar. The keeper is down and though a physical challenge, it seemed fair in my opinion.
In rare sportsmanship Hummels seems genuinely concerned about Cesar's well being as it is a corner.
The corner comes off of Ralph for a Brazilian throw.Fred of Fluminese is on for Pato. He once played for Lyon.
Northern Ireland have extended their lead to 3-0 over the Faroes thanks to second half goals by Steven Davis of Rangers and Patrick McCourt of Celtic. McCourt has been booked too.
GOAL 3-1 GERMANY !!! AS SCHURRLE SCORES WITH A SUPERB FINISH AS SCHWEINSTEIGER TACKLED A BRAZILIAN DEFENDER IN THE BOX AND LAID IT ON A PLATE FOR SCHURRLE.
Darcy Blake of Evil Cardiff has pulled one back for Wales as they trail the Aussies 1-2. Meanwhile his club team are still tied 1-1 with Oxford in the Carling Cup.
Renato Augosto of Bayer Levrkusen replaces Robinho.
It has been a really poor performance from Brazil.
Cacao, the Brazilian born player, is on for Gutze and Jerome Boateng, the Citeh flop , is on.
I think Boateng came on for Lahm as my link temporarily froze.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Germany are about to defeat Brazil for the first time since 1993 and for only the fourth time ever.
WOW!!! brazil score a late goal from long range as Neymar pulls one back. It was poor marking from Boateng. It is 3-2 to Germany.
That is the final whistle and Germany deservedly win 3-2 , with all the goals in the second half. The score flattered Brazil, who were thoroughly outplayed.
Northern Ireland defeat the Faroes 4-0 as McCourt added a second. They move up to third ahead of Serbia and two points behind Slovenia, but with a game in hand.
Italy have defeated Spain 2-1
Scotland have defeated Denmark 2-1 as Snoddy scored the winner.
The Aussies have 1-2 in Wales
Ireland and Croatia played to a 0-0 draw in Dublin.
Extra time has begun in the Carling Cup between Oxford and Cardiff. Leeds old boy, Michael Duberry has been booked for Oxford.
BUGGER!!! PETER WHITTINGHAM HAS GIVEN EVIL CARDIFF THE LEAD VS OXFORD EIGHT MINUTES INTO EXTRA TIME. THEY LEAD 1-2.
It is halftime of extra time as Evil Cardiff lead 1-2 at the Kassam Stadium.
evil Cardiff have won 1-3 at Oxford in the Carling Cup. I hope to enjoy the pleasure of your company at 9 PM as the U.S. plays Mexico in Philly. CHEERS!
Crikey! Sounds as if Germany continue in fine form. They're going to take some beating next summer in Poland and the Ukraine.
You can disregard the email. LOB is back in business. I am watching the match on ESPN NWS.
The teams are out on the pitch.
The match kicks off from Lincoln Financial Field.
Edgar Castillo starts for the U.S. after falling out of favor with Bob Bradley.
Free kick to Mexico as Castillo commits the foul from about 35 yards from goal. Guardado chips the free kick into the box and Salcido crosses out of play.
According to Ian Darke there have been a few surprise call-ups by Klinnsmann.
Great tackle by Landy on Salcido and he had a nice give and go with Bradley, but the cross was too high.Jermaine Jones almost connected at the far post.
Shut it Harkes. Bradley did not such a great job. Shame on you Ian. You should know better than that.
The body language of Klinnsmann is much different than that of Coach B. It's like night and day.
Kyle Beckerman and Landy are the only MLS players starting.
Guardado passes to Castro who shoots well wide from long range.
Damn, how did we go from flowing into their defensive third to passing back to our own keeper. We are in trouble.
According to Bob Bradley's agent, he is in Egypt in talks with the EFA. Crazy!!!
Hello WHR.How have you been? There seems to be more life to this side than at any time under Coach Bradley.
That's a hard transition, I'd imagine. Hope he gets some extra security written into this contract. Coaching away in Iran will be no fun.
Castillo makes a great last ditch tackle on West Ham's Pablo Barrera.
Evening, David. All well here. Mexico clearly the better side in the first 15 minutes, yes?
He will be coaching the Egyptian National Team, but I agree that there should be security written in the contract. If he was such a great manager he would have received a better offer than Egypt.
Correct WHR and as you state that Peralta scores with a great volley to give Mexico the lead.
Ugh. One goal down. We should've pushed out to put the all off side.
Thanks WHR. It has been excessively hot out here. Too hot for football.I am doing well. Thank You.
I agree. It was poor defending. It will take Klinnsman several matches to improve the U.S. team. I believe they picked up many bad habits under Bradley's management. I do not envy the Egyptians.
We are lucky it's only a friendly.
Well, me and the missus are going to watch The Marriage Ref. Hope you enjoy the rest of the match! C'mon USA!
Landy is fouled as the U.S. were on the attack.
Cheers, WHR. I will catch you later.
The free kick is into the two man wall. Shocking!!
BLOODY HELL! Sports Center is on during the match. Is this the NASL where they went to commercial break during the middle of a match?
The match is now on ESPN 2. Great organization ABC!
The U.S. will play Costa Rica on September 2nd. The match will be on ESPN 2. We play Belgium on September 6th. That match will be on ESPN Classic.
Handbags as Cherunduloh feels he was unfairly penalized off the quick throw as he was called for a foul on Guardado inches outside the box,
The free kick is curled into the side netting as it was a difficult angle for a shot on goal.
Mexico have dominated and have rarely been troubled.
Good catch Timmy.
The cross from Cheruduloh was too high, but Torres found Bradley, then he found Cherunduloh who crossed to the keeper.
I am surprised that Joizy is not playing I am surer Jurgen would like to get a good look at him.
Perralta , the goal scorer shoots high and wide.
Beckerman is down injured due ti a challenge from Juarez.
It was a genuine attempt for the ball, IMHO.
Juarez is booked. That seemed harsh to me. He did get the ball even though he made contact with Beckerman.
I expect wholesale changes at the half, especially from the U.S.Jurgen should not be impressed.
Guardao is down injured in the center circle as we approach stoppage time. The ref should have let play continue. He did this to disrupt the U.S. rhythm.
There is one minute of stoppage time plus whatever is assigned for this stoppage.
Mexico leads 1-0 at halftime. Jurgen should have plenty to say and should make several changes.
Nigeria defeated England 1-0 in the Round of 16 in the Under 20 World Cup. This follows three consecutive 0-0 draws. Not very impressive.
The second half is underway with no changes from either side.
The U.S. break, but Bradley is triple teamed.
The cross from Guardado is straight to Timmy.
Salcido is flagged offside.
dos Santos is on for Sinha.
Brett Shea and Juan Aguedelo are about to come on. 100 comments.
The keeper made a superb double save from Carlos Bocanegra off the corner from Landy. The first U.S. shot on goal this match. The second corner was caught by the keeper.
I was out for a minute or two and did not see who Shea or Aguedelo replaced.
A great run by Aguedelo, but a shame that the shot ended up in row z.
Arrellano is on for Perralta.
Arrellano shoots over after a great build up by the Mexicans.
Brett Shea wins a corner for the U.S, but a goal kick is awarded.
Francisco Rodriguez of VFB Stuttgart is on for Raffa Marquez.
Christian Bermudez is on for Pablo Barrera.
Robbie Rogers is on for Michael Bradley.
Landy set up Aguedelo, but he was tackled in the box. He took too many touches.
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS THE SUBS COMBINE. BRETT SHEA RAN DOWN THE LEFT AND LAID IT ON A PLATE FOR ROBBIE ROGERS TO SCORE FROM CLOSE RANGE.
Jurgen is ecstatic!
Landy ran at the Mexican defense and Torres shot wide from just outside the box.
Aguilar is on for Juarez.
Landy dribbles through the Mexican defense, but is tackled in the box. Better from the U.S.
great challenge by Robbie Rogers on Salcido. The corner is cleared.
Robbie Rogers shoots over from long range after a shot from Brett Shea is blocked. a great run by Aguedelo.
The subs have been the best players for the U.S.
Great save by Ochoa from Shea
Torres has been replaced.
The U.S. broke and Robbie Rogers broke with just the keeper to beat. Torrado was booked , but should have been sent off. The ref caught an earful from six U.S. players and the announcers were furious. As per yhe rules it should have been a red card friendly or not.
The free kick is into the wall.
Great run by Landy is ruined by a poor finish from Ricardo Clark.
Dos Santos is miles offside.
Landy hits row z after a poor pass from Ricardo Clark is poorly cleared.
The match finishes tied at 1-1. There should be plenty of encouragement after a better second half performance from the U.S.I hope to chat with everyone on Saturday.
CHEERS!
Thanks for keeping the LOB home fires burning tonight, MUR. I'm sorry I wasn't around to enjoy the match with you. I reckon that 1-1 is a very serviceable opening result for Jurgen and his new charges against a far superior Mexican side. No shame in that at all.
I'll look forward to chatting with you this weekend. Cheers!
