A Mancy Old Sunday
It's the first big Sunday of the season with both big Mancy clubs on offer. First up is high=flying moneybags Citeh against a Spurs side who have yet to get started this season. Then there is the big one - United v. Arsenal from Old Trafford. It doesn't get any better, gents. If you've got power this morning, join me for all the LOB action.
406 Comments:
Right then, chappies. First up is the Spurs v. Citeh affair. Here's the team news out of Shite Fart this morning:
Tottenham (4-4-1-1): Friedel; Corluka, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Kranjcar, Modric, Bale; Van der Vaart; Crouch. Subs: Cudicini, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Bassong, Walker, Livermore.
Manchester City (4-3-3): Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Barry, Yaya Toure, Silva; Nasri, Aguero, Dzeko. Subs: Pantilimon, Richards, Milner, Johnson, Savic, Tevez, Balotelli.
The big news is that Samir Nasri is straight into the first team at the expense of Jamie Milner this afternoon. How will he link up with David Silva? We'll soon see.
I asked the question last week about whether Harry would face some pressure if Spurs lost badly again today. I'll ask it again as Spurs prepare to get us started.
Quick start from Spurs there with a terrific cross by Essou-Ekotta and a whiff on it by Aaron Lennon.
Spurs are off the bottom of the league merely because Blackburn lost again and have a worse goal difference.
Blimey there are some early kick-offs this season. Newcastle and Fulham are already at the half-hour mark at 0-0.
Citeh's front four of Aguero, Dzeko, Silva and Nasri seem to be interchanging at will.
Oh - how did Citeh not score there. Nasri bursts through and then backheeled to Silva who shot at Friedel. Nasri should have nettted the rebound.
There is outstanding talent on both sides here today and we've got the prospect of a fascinating match.
Oh - great save there, Joe Hart!
Assou-Ekotta picks up an early yellow for upending Kun Aguero.
In the Championship, West Ham are 0-1 up at the City Ground against Forest thanks to an own goal from Luke Chambers.
Good old Spurs fans - they're booing Clichy for his Arsenal connection. They don't miss a trick.
Interestingly, with Nasri in the side, Citeh have lost the attacking thrust of Yaya who seems locked into the defensive midfield role.
Oh - David Silva produces a marvelous save from Brad. That was nearly 1-0.
Good morning,BD. I just woke up because I got some extra kip.
Edin Dzeko is looking to become only the fifth Citeh player to score goals in four consecutive league matches. He came close there again. It's all Citeh at present.
Phil Dowd is producing another yellow card for Gareth Barry who slid in on VDV.
Gareth Barry is booked for a foul just outside the box.
Hey Bob,
I have no power and the eye of Irene is heading right for Albany!!
I have a generator running and have the TV going.
I am going to turn off the computer now
Tony is at WHL today. He is to Brad's right
Hart tips the free kick from VDV around the post.
West Ham winning yet?
Morning, MUR! I'm sure that it was a well-deserved extra kip for you. How was Melanie's big day?
Thanks for checking in, UWS. I hope you get power back shortly.
Good morning UWS.I hope you get power as quickly as possible. Good luck! We will look for Tony.
Wow - the gang's all here now. Yes, WHR - West Ham are 0-3 up at Forest!
Goals from Nolan, Cole and an o.g.
It went really well. Melanie did an excellent job, the service went really well, and the caterer did a great job with the food.
I'll be keeping an eye out for Chelskilad.
Wow . . . never saw that coming. . . are Forest still playing with Archie Gemmill in the midfield? Is that it?
Glad to hear it, mate. You and Elizabeth must be quite chuffed this morning.
Good morning WHR. Good to see the Hammers winning.
Must be that, WHR. How's your power situation? Have you weathered Irene alright?
How did DC handle Irene
Yaya is booked for kicking the ball away after Phil Dowd blew the whistle.
Yaya has picked up a yellow for a petulant kick away.
Sorry , I forgot to ask. Was the DC area affected by Irene?
Newcastle and Fulham have reached half-time at 0-0. Those two can be expected to finish mid-table.
Bale shoots over from close range. It should have been 1-0.
Oh - Bale fluffs his lines as he's in on goal albeit from a wide angle.
Morning, MUR and TBD!
Sorry to read Dave w/o power.
The storm left the Mendittos unscathed.
Celtic lead 0-2 at St. Mirren early in the second half.
Haven't heard yet from the Gooner. Since WHR hasn't mentioned it, I'm assuming the DC chaps are doing alreet.
Great news, WHR.Hope you get power soon, Dave. I am glad to hear you have a generator. I wish we had one when Dolly hit three years ago.
Glad to hear it, WHR. I'm sure the same is the case with the Gooner. The only question now is whether Arsenal will be ravaged by Hurricane United. I'm sure the Gooner is already holed up in a darkened basement putting pins in his Rooney doll.
Phil Dowd's getting rather card happy now. It's VDV into the book now for a seemingly innocuous push.
Roberto Martinez, Jaime Redknapp, and his son are in attendance at WHL. Tony is in attendance too.
I'm thinking I'll need to get my fat butt to 10 am hot yoga . . . I've been doing it for 10 years -- 10 years of practice and I've gotten progressively worse at it.
I agree. Some of the cards were merited, but not this one.
Is the United / Arsenal game on the telly today?
I have done hot yoga and can admit that I do sweat off some unnecessary fat.
Yes. It is on FSC at 11 AM.
Nice one, WHR. I'm still doing the yoga practice at home here at Blue Devil HQ, albeit not the hot variety.
I've come to the conclusion that yoga is best practiced by small Indian types, not lumbering Northern Europeans. I sweat buckets regardless.
Big shout for handball against Gareth Barry there. Phil Dowd waves away the appeals.
I still go and like you I sweat buckets.
GOAL! Dzeko scores in his fourth consecutive match!
0-1 Citeh!
GOAL!!! 0-1 CITEH AS DZEKO SCORES WITH A FINISH IN THE FAR CORNER FROM A CROSS BY AGUERO.
Marvelous ball over from new boy Samir Nasri and Dzeko only had to get his studs to it before Dawson did.
Dzeko scores for the fourth consecutive game after looking like he would never score last season. Who needs Tev?
Nasri and Aguero look as if they've been playing all their lives. Great understanding between the two already.
Correct,BD. It was Nasri, not Aguero. Either way it was a great cross.
Indeed - Tevez and Balo have a few days to find gainful employment otherwise they're likely to be marooned on the bench with only the occasional Carling Cup match to play in.
The Hammers 0-3 halftime lead at Forest.
I agree,BD. It is exactly what they deserve.
Poor old Spurs have dropped to the bottom of the Prem again with a goal difference of -4.
Newcastle have taken an early second half lead against Fulham.
Oh - fantastic cross on the volley from Bale and Crouch must score there. Stuck it just wide.
Best with the goal for the Magpies.
Crouchie heads just wide off a superb cross by Bale. For once, I agree with Efan, that Crouch should have hit the target
GOAL! Dzeko has a brace!
2-0!
GOAL!!! 0-2 AS DZEKO SCORES AGAIN , WITH A HEADER AND OFF ANOTHER NASRI CROSS.
It was Nasri again with the cross which was slightly behind the big man but someone he twisted his neck muscles to loop it back over Brad. Wow - what a header!
The Spurs fans have got a bit quiet now as Citeh come streaming forward again.
This lead must not be sitting well with the Spurs fans as an ex Gunner was instrumental in both goals and Crouch had missed a sitter moments earlier that could have tied the match.
Mancini seems to be raiding Arsenal's beast players and getting the results. I guess Arsene would not be on good terms with Mancini at this point.
Oh - Dzeko on a hat-trick pulls another Brad save out after a scintillating move. I'm get a tingling feeling up my leg from this display from Citeh. They have been incredible.
to add insult to injury, ex Citeh right back, Corlucka, was exposed as Nasri crossed for both goals.
I missed the second goal. My cable went out.. I think it is going to be coming back because my internet works
Three minutes of stoppage time as Silva shot just wide for rampant Citeh.
Great to hear from you under difficult circumstances, UWS.Thank you for joining us.
I think it's probably a good time for a United fan to lose power. Citeh have been ominously impressive this half.
Bale goes it alone and wins a corner in the end.
Bale shot wide as he sprinted down the length of the pitch.
I hope UWS has power when United host Arsenal and Phil Dowd blows the halftime whistle as Citeh lead 0-2 at The Lane.
The half-time whistle goes and there are a few boos for the Spurs side. I don't think that's fair. They've played reasonably well but the well-financed Citeh have just overpowered them at times.
I don't think I am going to have power all day... some people say a week. I have a gasoline powered generator running outside.. typical Nocito... it is running the TV, Computer and Xbox... who cares about the fridge!
Here's your half-time talking point, lads. Chelski boss AVB has commented that the transfer window should close at the beginning of the season. Your thoughts?
Newcastle now lead Fulham 2-0. Leon Best scored his and Newcastle's second.
Newcastle now up to 5th on 7 points and +3 GD.
I disagree with AVB. I think it gives the big clubs an unfair advantage. The smaller clubs have made some great last minute signings. I do see his point as some players play two or three games for a club, go through preseason training, then another club reaps the benefits. AVB makes an interesting point.
Well done, UWS. Once we regained power one of our main problems was having to restock the fridge and freezer.
Great work with the electronics.
Citeh get us started in the second half. Kranjcar has come off with a groin tweak and Fatty Huddlestone has taken his place.
All the best with the generator powered items, UWS. I'm hoping that it will get you through the late match.
I am back as I was fixing breakfast I am eating leftovers from the Bat Mitzvah. There are bagels with cream cheese and coffee.
Aaron Lennon seems to have over-exerted himself there. He's holding his groin now.
Lovely - that was my breakies as well.
Fatty could easily have picked up a yellow from Phil Dowd there.
Here's that change - Lennon off and Defoe on.
Fatty should have been booked for the foul on Zabaletta after some of the cards in the first half.
Dafoe is on for Lennon.
Oh - Dzeko inches away from flicking home his hat-trick goal there.
Dzeko was just wide with that header as that could have been a hat-trick.
We have leftovers because thirty fewer people showed up to the reception than we anticipated.
GOAL! Dzeko with the hat-trick!
3-0!
GOAL!!! 0-3 AS DZEKO COMPLETES HIS HAT-TRICK WITH A GREAT FINISH AT THE FAR POST AS YAYA COMPLETED A GREAT RUN WITH A GREAT PASS.
After the corner was cleared, the key there was a great overlapping run from Yaya and a cheeky flick to him from Aguero. Yaya was then left with several options to slide to. Citeh are flying and their fans are doing the Poznan.
Dzeko is not helping the LOB pool as he could be the leading scorer in the EPL this season.
The Spurs fans are chanting, "You're just a shit Man United," but I don't think that's going to bother Citeh fans.
Meanwhile, I'll ask that question again. It's two matches and two 3-0 drubbings at the hands of the Manc teams. Harry Out?
since I overestimated by thirty people, that cost me an extra $450 as the caterer charges per person.. I feel foolish.
That is true - with the likes of Silva, Aguero, Yaya and Nasri laying them on a plate for the big Bosnian, Dzeko will be hard to beat. He's already on five for the season now.
I am not sure. They may do well against the rest of the league. That might result in the England job once Euro 2012 finishes.
No worries, eh? I remember doing something similar at our wedding. It's all worth it in the end for a nice day out for Melanie. You'll be all the wiser when Jacquelyn's turn spins around, right?
4-0! Aguero!
NOW 0-4 TO CITEH AS AGUERO SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH,MAKING DAWSON LOOK THE RIGHT FOOL. NASRI HAS A HAT-TRICK OF ASSISTS.
Fantastic interchange with Nasri who played a slide rule pass to Aguero and he out-muscled Dawson to finish from an acute angle with his left peg. Awesome!
Thanks,BD. That is correct. I have learned my lesson. Melanie did do a great job and really prepared for this, so it was worth it.
Mike Summerbee hasn't seen this kind of play from Citeh before.
Keep in mind that Citeh were down in the third tier not too long ago. Does that mean that Leeds are destined for the same turn-around?
Fulham have scored against Newcastle ,but trail 2-1 in stoppage time. Forest have scored against the Hammers, but trail 1-3.
Oh - another bit of training pitch footie ends with a wild shot over the top from Aguero.
That is possible. Ken Bates did the same with a down and out Chelsea over a period of time.
Micah Richards on for Zaba.
Micah Richards is on for Zabaletta.
I think we may need to substitute Capn' Birdseye for a Sheikh Ya Money.
Modric is off and Livermore on. Is that the end of Modric's time at Shite Fart?
West ham have scored through Winston Reid and lead 1-4 at Forest.
it must be as he puts on an inexperienced player. Harry is conceding the match.
Oh - Defoe with a trademark shot from outside the area tipped over by Hart.
Celtic won 0-2 at St.Mirren
GOAL! Spurs get one back through a header from Younis Kabboul.
1-4!
GOAL AS KABOUL HEADS IN A GOAL FOR SPURS FROM THE RESULTING CORNER., BUT STILL TRAIL 1-4.
Mancini was not happy as several Citeh players watched as Kabboul rose for that header.
That's Spurs' first goal in the Premiership this season. They're GD is back down to -6.
Newcastle have defeated Fulham 2-1.
I thought it was their first. They did have their first match postponed.
That's the Magpies up into 5th as a result of that match. They'll be dreaming of European footie on Tyneside tonight.
Yaya shoots wide from a free kick.
Oh - Defoe produces another sharp save from Hart.
what a save by Hart from Dafoe as that was a rocket. He must start next week.
I think we may have lost UWS again. He should get the kids on a treadmill to produce a bit of supplementary power.
Some dodgy Spurs defending as Citeh could have been through.
Defoe has made a difference since coming on.
I agree. That will produce plenty of power.
hot yoga is at 11 . . . . I'm going to record the big match . . . question? . . . who picked Citeh to win the league?
West Brom vs Stoke is underway. There should be lots of long balls, head tennis ,and argie bargie.
VDV is walking off the pitch after sustaining some kind of hammy strain. He's kicked a ball away in frustration. That's two groin strains and a hammy today for Spurs. Are they doing any training at Spurs this season?
I think it was WHR.
I believe that was you, mate. That's why you're sitting pretty at the top of the PPP stakes. Well done! I thought they might be a season away.
Look at Huddlestone and that would be an indicator.
Still - United only have to score 5 today against the Gunners to best Citeh.
Aguero is coming off and Savic is coming on. And he gets a yellow card for time wasting.
Stefan Savic is on for Aguero and Savic is booked for coming on too early.
I agree with Efan. That is the linesman's fault, not the players.
15 minutes left and it sounds like a tomb inside Shite Fart now.
Did you hear that Drogba was unconscious for 30 minutes yesterday? Wow - he's got a concussion now apparently. No kidding!
We did beat them 6-1 during the Wenger era. A Latvian player had a mare in defense and we took advantage.I don't see us scoring five. We will catch up as the season progresses.
Oh - great chipped pass from Nasri to Silva and Silva just couldn't hook it home. That would have been a hell of a goal.
I recorded the match and saw that big John Ruddy went to punch the ball away and knocked him out. I thought it was accidental.I hope Drogba is okay.Ruddy was sent off later in the match and Norwich , who played well , were unlucky to lose.
The Hammers have won 1-4 at Forest
Oh - Nasri nearly set up Dzeko for a fourth goal there.
Big Brad saved well from Dzeko.
Nasri and Dzeko have a great understanding.
Watford vs Birmingham is underway in what is an unexpected early season relegation battle.
That was a nasty clash of heads between Kaboul and Richards.
Rangers have taken the lead against Aberdeen.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time. Spurs wish it was less.
Bloody hell - Dzeko's 4th! A cracker!
GOAL !!! 1-5 AS DZEKO SCORES HIS FOURTH WITH A SUPERB FINISH IN THE TOP CORNER.
A nice one-two with Barry and then a simple curling left-footed effort past Brad.
1-5!
Spurs fans are derisively chanting "Boring, boring Citeh!"
LOL!
The final whistle blows as boos ring around the Lane. Citeh thrash spurs 1-5 at The Lane. Mike Summerbee is pleased.
Well, that was chastening for any fans of the other 19 Premiership sides. Bloody hell, Citeh were excellent today putting Spurs to the sword 1-5 on their home patch. Crikey!
I agree. You now have a valid point about Harry's job. as the two Manchester clubs outscored Spurs 8-1 .
I agree. They have sent out a message to the rest of the league. Noe Serie A football this season.
I saw the results yesterday and am sorry to see that Leeds lost 2-1 at Ipswich yesterday. it must have been frustrating after being up at halftime. The match seemed to have turned when you had a player sent off.
Very frustrating day yesterday. Aidan White's sending off was the turning point but I don't think Aidy had any complaint. It sounded like he hauled back the player who was in on goal.
We did have a penalty claim turned down late on but it's another match where we should have got a point at least and we got nowt.
Team news out of Old Trafford - United are unchanged. Arsenal are without Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen, who have failed fitness tests.
Manchester United (4-4-1-1) De Gea; Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra; Nani, Cleverley, Anderson, Young; Rooney; Welbeck.
Arsenal (4-2-3-1) Szczesny; Jenkinson, Koscielny, Djourou, Traore; Ramsey, Coquelin; Walcott, Rosicky, Arshavin; Van Persie.
Birmingham lead 0-1 at Watford . ROONEY
Bueller Bueller
Fergie puts out a lineup similar to that against Arsenal's North London rivals, Spurs.
The Edinburgh Derby kicks off.
United must be favorites today. That's a make-shift Arsenal side if I've ever seen one. A draw would be a victory for the Gunners today.
I read that the Gunners are about to sign Monaco striker, Park Cu Young.
Spare a thought for the Baggies faithful watching WBA v. Stoke at the Hawthorns today. It's 0-0 at half-time and I'd bet there are a few who wish they were where we are - in front of the telly waiting for the start of the big one.
The match kicks off from OT.
I agree. I had predicted long ball and head tennis in that match.
Yeah - I think that deal went through yesterday. I still don't get the £6 million bid for Gary Cahill. That's a joke. Why not resist the temptation to buy another diminutive midfielder and lay down £20 million for a quality central defender?
I think Arsenal made only two or three changes from the side that won in Italy in midweek. what does that say about Serie A?
I agree.Roon shoots just wide for United.
I am surprised that Clichy and Nasri were not booed at WHL today. Shocking behavior from the Spurs fans!
Rooney tries a pop from out wide left. Get in the box, Wayne!
They did boo them early on but I think they were shell-shocked once the goals starting flying in.
That makes sense.
The boos must have rang in while I was getting some kip. I fell really well rested today.
Arsenal seem to be setting up to defend like Stoke today. Anyone got a long throw on them?
Oh - Young played Danny Welbeck in but he shanked his shot wide of goal.
OOH- Wellbeck should have scored as he had just the keeper to beat, but shot wide. Great pass from Ashley Young.
Ramsey in sharpish on Anderson there.
It was a great tackle by Ramsey.
Young goes down easily in the box and the referee wisely waves on.
How did Bloody Pleat get this match?
I agree. It was never a penalty. A similar situation occurred in the Arsenal box.
