Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
200 Comments:
I'll be around for the first half before my first Fall 2011 class this afternoon. Looking forward to it!
I'm back for the match now. Here's the link that I found for the match:

You're not home for ESPN2 coverage... wait... you have class don't you
Team news

Evra comes in and the two centerback are out but the rest are the same
De Gea
Smalling
Evra
Jones

Cleverley

BOY THAT IS YOUNG TEAM!!!!!
What about Berbatov? Fergie said he wasn't for sale!
The Neviller is on having a bit of the chat about the weekend's matches.
England won today by an inning and 8 runs today. They got seven wickets in the afternoon. 7 wickets in 94 balls
England are the number one team in the World!
They beat India 4-0 in a four Test series
Hiya, Dave. Yeah, I'll have to abandon you at some point in the second half to head to my first class of the semester.
That's an outstanding effort from England. I'm amazed at how good they are these days, given the dog days that we lived through.
I am listening to Five Live before ESPN starts... only at 2:55
I was wrong about the United line up. Fabio isn't playing. The back four are Smalling, Jones, Evans and Evra
Last time Spurs won in the League at Old Trafford was in 1989
The Neviller is worried about Liverpool.
You posted the United side but here's the Spurs side facing you tonight:
Spurs: Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Livermore, Kranjcar, Bale, Van der Vaart, Defoe
News out of North London today that Arsenal are poised to sign a French midfielder. Anyone surprised?
This Neviller piece is endless. I'm worried that I've got the wrong channel. Why haven't they started the coverage for the match?
Does the match start at 2:45 or 3pm? I've got to check.
3
Got it - that makes sense. The Neviller is gone now and regular coverage has started.
United need to win by more than four goals to go top!
Easy-peasy
They're showing clips of dramatic match-ups of the past. Love that Roy Carroll dropsy over the line not counted as a goal one.
Never a goal... never over the line....okay.... maybe
It's the usual striker-less formation for United tonight, I see. As long as my boy Nani is in the side, though, I'm happy.
This young backline of United doesn't bother me at all!
De Gea has to get a foothold in goal... he doesn't speak English
ESPN has started!
United have won 15 straight league games at Old Trafford. Last lost points were VDS gifts to WBA last season after leading 2-0
Last loss in all competitions was to Chelsea in April 2010... cost us the league!
Teams in the tunnel now. Are you nervous?
ESPN say that a local Manchester paper says United are going to make a last gasp bid for Sneijder
Lovely Champions19 scarfs being waved in the Stretford End
Dave Cheshire on Twitter: "Seriously young side at OT tonight. If United win that sends out a message to the rest of the Premier League."
Mikel's father has been found in Nigeria... good news there
Hello UWS and BD. I will join you for a few minutes before my conference period ends.
VDS is in the stands watching his old team.... hope he gave some good words for De Gea
The two oldest managers come out hugging each other
Afternoon, MUR. How are you, mate?
Get back to work MUR!!!
Still two weeks to go!
Five Live still on and Alan Green complaining about the tannoy at OT
Hernandez is on the bench!!!
A bit of good natured banter between Alex and 'Arry as they walk out together.
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Away we go!
Alan is always having a go at the tannoy!
United get us going now.
I still don't see Anderson's involvement
ooh, Young with a decent cross to Welbeck..blocked
Good bright start there through Ashley young with Welbeck sliding in.
Fergie obviously considers him a better option than Carrick as the holding middie.
Roon with a tame header at Friedel.
Rooney with a weak header... United should have done better there when VDV gave the ball away
BTW, my school day hours is different this year... I'm done at 2:35... I'll be done for all the footer!
Correct,UWS. I have one moe class to go. It's the students' first day of school.
Nice play from Anderson but a weak cross by Evra after a overlap
My school day ends at 4:05 Central Time!
I am doing well. How are you BD and UWS?
United don't do a short corner!!!!!!!!!!!
What time do you start?
I go from 7:30 to 2:35
The link didn't work because I needed to download something. I tihnk it's because I am on the school server.
That's excellent for you, UWS. Not so much for you, MUR. I've got classes at 4:30 on Monday and Tuesday and at 2pm on Tuesday. Wednesdays are totally free for me for the first time in recent memory for me.
Our school day is from 8:30-4:05.
That is a late start for a high school - I like it, not being a morning person.
I think two goals were scored from short corners yesterday. One was at Wolves, but I forget the other one.
Of course, you'll have students popping and bugging you
I think the other one was UWS' favorite goal from the weekend with the Trifecta of Irritations.
We start late because we are busing students from three different counties, some are over an hour away.
I am impressed with Jones
oooh,..... great move started by Jones .... Cleverley with a great effort well saved by Big Sam
BLOODY SHORT CORNER
I've got my office hours scheduled so that they shouldn't be coming by on Wednesdays. I may also go home after my meetings on Wednesdays. For example, this Wednesday, when there is the Leeds v. Donny and Arsenal v. Udinese matches.
The students are in class, so there should be no interruptions. The main interruption would be parent conferences, but I don't see that happening on the first day of school.
Brad Friedel - Iron Man!
Another local derby for Leeds.
Yeah - our third Yorkshire derby of the season so far!
My daughters satrted school today too.
Yeah- That is minus the two Sheffields!
What is the crowd yelling about Shit Aaron Lennon!!
Nani and Young switching sides.. I like that
Evra with a WHIFF
I do understand that.
True - but we've still got matches with Scunny, Hull and Donny to look forward to.
Nice move De Gea... but knock it off!!!!!!
A win would definitely send out the message.
De Gea under pressure there from VDV.
I think Scunny were relegated last season.
Van der Sar in the stands today. Why isn't he on the pitch?
VDV has a shot deflected...phew!! goes wide
VDS talking to the United chairman
Dawson with a looping header that was always going over.
Does he want to be Fergie's successor?
Spot on, MUR. But I still expect to get them in one Cup or another. Probably the Blades too.
COME ON UNITED!
Spurs starting to get some possession... KNOCK IT OFF
Jones brought down Bale just outside the box there.
That is always a possibility. I would want to take on Ipswich based on current form.
Jones tackles Bale... he stays down a while... no pen, no foul
Useless cross by Young
Nani back on the right... fails to get the ball across
Criticism for your boy Ashley, UWS?!
I have a link with ESPN 3.
Yes... but Nani followed it up with an even worse cross
Too deep of a cross from Nani
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Great ball over from Nani to your Invisible Center Forward there.
Bale gets a shot off saved by De Gea
Bale produces a strong save from De Gea.
Decent save by De Gea.
The link reloads every 30 seconds!
Nice cross by Nani... Rooney didn't attempt to get to that
Jump at it Wayne
Another great ball over to Invisible Center Forward from my boy Nani.
I agree with UWS. I see SPurs constantly knocking the ball around. I want to see more Man Yoo possession.
GET IT OVER NANI!!
Useless corner by Bob's mate
Almost in there by Jones and then Welbeck.. Spurs break... VDV tries to lob De Gea.. no troubs
Great run from VDV there but it would have been quite some howler if De Gea hadn't saved that one.
I am sorry, but my last class is about to start so I will catch you later. It was great chatting.
CHEERS!
SHOOT WAYNE
Take care MUR
Bale complains about everything!
Useless touch by Nani to Roon
Nani and Young switching sides again.. the defenders won't know what side their going to be on
oooh, Welbeck knocks it back to Roon.... I think he should have shot but played a brilliant chip to Young who's header looped JUST wide
Oh - Young went close there to looping a header over Friedel and into the far corner. Roon with a Paul Scholes pass there.
Useless corner by VDV... almost hit the other flag
Neat passing by De Gea
Now Roon is imitating Glenn Hoddle with a 40-yard diagonal pass.
Two evenly matched sides so far, gentlemen?
Young and Nani switch sides again....
United slightly on top
Krancear with a decent hit but right at De Gea
That was a strange header from Roon.
Nani with a pop... deflected for a corner
Attempts are even at five each
Spurs' attacks are more hopeful than purposeful at the moment.
James in Kidderminster: "Good to see lots of future England internationals tonight. Smalling, Jones, Cleverly, Walker, Livermore not to forget Young, Lennon and Rooney!! Plus Redknapp!!"
Evans picks up a yellow for sliding in on VDV.
First yellow goes to Evans with a foul on VDV.. I don't think it warranted a card
Blocked and Welbeck gets called for a high boot... not much in that as well
United's back four look comfortable
The card is out again for Dawson... for WHAT?
I really don't get the cards these days... look at the 80s and it was rough but fair
Young still down hurt... come on Ashley.. get up... you need to score your SECOND of the year
The ref's getting a wee bit hard happy now.
What do we make of Nani's faux-hawk tonight?
Roon is fouled but ref plays on and Bob's mate sends it over the bar
Nice shot by VDV and well saved by De Gea
Fergie should make him cut it off
Oh - VDV with a sharp left-footed shot that De Gea handles well.
Useless pass by Anderson... he always does it... I would bring on Carrick for him
Ashley Young's in the wars now. Limping away.
2 added minutes to be played... Come on United
DId Kaboul headbutt there... he should be off
Are the fans calling Nani Shit Michael Jackson?
Defoe with a hopeless shot... he was wide open!
That's it for first half.... not too pleased with the score
Half-time and frankly a bit goal starved. 0-0.
I'm off to set up my classroom. Back in a tick.
I'm back but my link is knackered now. I'm going to try some others.
I get the link back up and running now as the second half kicks off.
Oh - Great save from Friedel from Ashley Young there.
Defoe with a trademark shot from outside the area. Well gathered by De Gea.
Oh - Bale took the wrong option there with a shot from outside the area when he had choices left and right.
Back from a quick trip to the store.. didn't miss much
Oh - two sharp saves from Brad from Anderson and then Roon. He's keeping Spurs in it tonight.
oooh Anderson and then Rooney with shots well saved by Big Brad
Cleverley makes the wrong decision
Useless corner by Nani but it comes back to him but his shot is blocked.. he took too long
Chance for Young to get a free kick in the box... come on!!
Useless free kick... Nani like
VDV takes a shot from about the Cricket Ground
Time for Berbs or Wee Pea
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cleverley crosses and WELBECK NETS THE HEADER!!!!
Another long shot trying to catch De Gea out but again it was taken from the Cricket Ground
Evra brought down on the edge of the box... who will take... knock it in!!!
ooh, Rooney with a nice shot saved by BF again
Useless corner by Young
United are still behind Wolves and Citeh in the Table
Roon with a pop but BF knew it was over the bar... not by much though
Great run by Jones... I really like him
United's goal was scored at the 61st minute mark
Welbeck with an overhead kick... nice attempt but straight at BF
Another double save by Fridel..
Another save by Friedel after a side volley attempt by Evans!
Good to see you lot on top - I'm off to my class. Cheerio!
Cool defending again by Jones... Defoe was almost in there
Huddlestone and Pavlachenko about to come on for Spurs
Great run by Welbeck... I like the look of him tonight
Take care Bob.. hope your class goes well
Jones with a shot blocked and Defoe fails to take advantage of Jones being up so far... he just looses possession
Great passing and movement from United followed by a nice run by Young.. another corner... straight to Big Brad
Kranjcar and Livermoore are the ones being replaced by Hud and Pav
15 minutes to go
Great block by Jones again.. he's is all over Old Trafford...
Knock it off Spurs
YES!!!!!!!
ANDERSON... GREAT PASSING AGAIN!!
Anderson passes to Welbeck who back heals it right back to him and slots it home!
nani almost in there
De Gea messes up a cross and the rebound off the post by Defoe
He was beaten to the ball in the air by Bale... first iffy moment for him... keep it tight United!
Apparently, United are going to bring on Giggs, Park and Hernandez
They are
Wee Pea for Welbeck... well played boy.. standing ovation
Park on for Cleverley
Giggs for Young
Under 10 to go
Where would Sneijder fit it... do we need him... two good questions
I have been pleased with this performance!
This young back four have been great!
oooh, Nani crosses and just missed by Hernandez and Rooney... Hernandez should have gone at it with his head but tried to kungfu kick it... Rooney missed it from inside the six
The Spurs fan sing.. What the F..k, What the F..k, what the f...king hell was that
Nani had a chance to play in Roon but it was a poor pass
Little of an iffy save by De Gea
Come on mate.... clean sheet please
YES
ROONEY scores from a Giggs cross
United still need two more to top Citeh
Spurs on the bottom
weak effort by Park
Into 3 added minutes.. keep a clean sheet
Long shot bobbled by De Gea and Defoe goes for the rebound and kicks out at De Gea.. he isn't happy.
Defoe with a yellow
Come on De Gea... start looking secure back there
1 minute to go
Nani shoots saved by Brad and Giggs has the rebound blocked as well.. and that is it!!
United 3 Spurs 0
Top of the Table
Citeh 6 +5
United 6 +4
Wolves 6 +3
Only teams to have a 100%
Bottom of the table
Spurs... Top vs Bottom next week... come on Spurs!
I am a happy chappy
Hope you had a good first day of school MUR
Hope you had a good first class
Take care boys
TTFN
BBC Radio 5 live's Alan Green: "I do wonder why Dimitar Berbatov is still at Old Trafford. What incentive can there be, apart from a big pay packet? A striker of his quality surely has to look for pastures new in these circumstances. Phil Jones... he is undoubtedly ready. He could also do a job for United in defensive midfield. And wasn't Chris Smalling good. He nullified Gareth Bale."
Wow - 3-0! That's a hell of a result. I did not see that coming at half time. Well done, mate!
