Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
80 Comments:
First up, Arsenal have predictably swooped for two defenders, albeit not the ones that were expected. Bremen and Germany center back Per Mertesacker is undergoing a medical at present. They've also bought Brazilian full-back Andre Santos.
Oh - and Armand Traore looks to be heading out of the Emirates to QPR.
Here's confirmation that Citeh have silly money these days. Owen Hargreaves (who he?) is undergoing a medical at Eastlands today. Here are the results of the medical - "He's a supercrock!"
This is ridiculous about Citeh and Hargreaves... if he's fit... United should as him back
I reckon that you're well rid of Sick Note Hargreaves if you can get any dosh out of the deal.
He's already released for free
Are you going to be around for ENGURLUND on Friday afternoon?
I just read that Joe Cole has been linked with a season long loan to Lille, as a replacement for Gervinho. I agree that we need to get rid of Hargreaves. Mertesacker is something along the lines of what the Gunners need in defense even though there are better central defenders around.
I amy be around for part of the England match on Friday. Will anyone be around for Scotland vs the Czech Republic on Saturday?
I'll be around Saturday... unless the boys have a game. The Friday game is earlier than normal because of it being in Bulgaria
I'm shocked!!
8:19
Update: Leeds have confirmed that they reluctantly accepted a bid from St Etienne for Max Gradel after seeing the forward hand in a transfer request.
Citeh have signed Hargreaves..I'm shocked about this one too!!
Bloody hell - Maxi's gone - I am shocked. That's a bloody catastrophe for us with Becchio and Somma injured long-term. What the hell is Capn' Birdseye thinking!!!?
I am sorry to hear this,BD. That is the last thing Leeds needed considering their injuries. Some other signings of which some are major and some are minor include:
Fulham sign Costa Rican international, Bryan Ruiz, from Tewnte
Seb Coates, the Uruguayan international, signs for Socusesox
Papa Bouba Diap signs for Fulham. Is this his second spell at the Cottage?
Newcastle United sign Italian international, Davide Santon.
Michael Bradley is set to sign for Chievo
Wigan are in talks with Celtic's Shaun Maloney
Swansea sign another keeper as they get Gerhard Tremmel for free.
Crouchie is linked with a move to Sunderland.
Spurs sign Sully Munbtari as Harry managed him at Pompey.
Thanks for the sympathy and for the summary of some of the big deals of the day, MUR.
Only a few hours left of the transfer window (sigh).
Morning boys.
Under 12 hours to go.
There was talk of Joe Cole has joined Lille even after some rumors of him in talks at Villa Park
Apparently, Joe Cole will be allowed to commute from London... Lille's training base is just 90 minutes from London on the Eurostar!
Argentine striker, Denis Stacqualuisi... NEVER EVEN 'EARD OF 'IM... has joined Everton on loan
Only a few hours left chaps. QPR are the big movers this morning. They've already snapped up Armand Traore from Arsenal yesterday. This morning they've swooped for Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland and SWP from Citeh.
Add to that Craig Bellamy from Cardiff and Liam Ridgewell also moving to Loftus Road. Crikey!
In Arsenal news, they just about completed the Mertesaker deal. And Wenger looks to be interested in buying the entire Everton side, including Jags, Rodwell, Arteta and Hair Bear.
More bad news for Leeds fans today. Jermaine Beckford has just about settled a deal with Leicester City, so we'll be seeing JB coming back to Elland Road this season.
Morning Bob

Leeds terminate contract with Mike Grella
West Ham have agreed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury on a season long loan... to fill Scotty Parker's shoes?
1643: More news of Sunderland's (apparently) want-away striker Asamoah Gyan now. BBC Newcastle understands that, contrary to reports, Asamoah Gyan has not handed in a transfer request, and is currently away on international duty with Ghana. So, is Gyan goin' (or stayin')?
All the talk of Bellamy going to QPR.. he might be going back to Liverpool... FORE!!!

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher on Twitter: Vicente has had a medical at Brighton and the Championship club are in on-going talks with the Spaniard, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Valencia. He would surely be one of the biggest names in the Championship and a huge coup for the Seagulls."
BBC Sport's David Ornstein tells me that Arteta is now the only player the Gunners are pursuing before the window shut. How do you feel about that, Gunners fans?
Still hour by hour coverage on FSC of Sky Sports News and all the deadline deals
1811: Right then, time is ticking down until the window closes, and with less than five hours left it is a good time to take stock. Arguably the biggest completed deals so far today are Scott Parker joining Tottenham, Joe Cole moving to Lille from Liverpool and Andre Santos signing for Arsenal from Fenerbahce, while Per Mertesacker's move to the Gunners is all but done. Deals that we are still waiting to happen - well, there is the Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios situation, Spain winger Vicente joining Brighton, Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas joining Aston Villa, Owen Hargreaves signing for Manchester City and Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta holding talks with Arsenal. Ice cold? Wesley Sneijder joining Manchester United, Carlos Tevez joining anyone and Luka Modric leaving Spurs.
Peter Crouch has agreed to join Stoke... the Potters fans are happy
Georgie on Sky had to apologize for some Stoke fan... flipping the bird and a wanking gesture behind the reporter!!!

1,000,000% that Modric is staying according to Appy Arry
What on earth are Chelsea doing????? Nothing!!!
Shaun Maloney has joined Wigan on a two year deal from Celtic!!!
Still no news on Hargreaves... but there is no rush... he is a free agent and can sign anytime
As per normal....
Chief football writer Phil McNulty: "Arsenal's move for Mikel Arteta has broken down after they failed to agree a deal with Everton - it remans to be seen if the deal can be revived between now and the close of the transfer window."
I don't understand Arsenal's stance.... 10m seems fair for Arteta.... they spent more on a young winger from Sotton
Apparently, 10m wasn't enough by Everton's evaluation
They should offer more then!
According to the TV, England v Wales is on live Tuesday
I will be here for only one more hour. I am going up North to watch Tom play his first REAL collegiate game
I will be here for only one more hour. I am going up North to watch Tom play his first REAL collegiate game
Sorry for the double posting... I just wanted you to know for sure where I am going!!!
Citeh have officially signed Hargreaves
Sky Sports have said that Stoke has asked Citeh to take Adam Johnson on loan
2000: Just the 10,800 seconds to go until the transfer window shuts. Or, if you prefer, THREE HOURS. Maybe someone needs to tell Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that, when it is this late in the day, you have to pay over the odds to get your man.
Heya, Dave - best of luck to Tom in his first real college outing.
Bosko Balaban is a 32 year journeyman striker who's played around a variety of different C-level European leagues, including in Croatia, Belgium and Greece. I seem to remember him from his brief stint at Villa in the early Noughties.
Just what we need, eh?
Hey Bob,
You only just caught me.
I don't get what the boss and manager are up to at ER!!!
Are you at work?
Arsenal now talking to Chelsea about Yossi Benayoun
When you get home... FSC have back to back belly to belly sky sports news with wall to wall coverage of the deadline
I am off to Queensbury... keep the home fires burning boys.... i'll read you comments when I get back
8.36pm: Oh dear, hearing that Robbie Savage has been criticising Arsenal's signing of Per Mertesacker on the grounds that the player didn't do well at Real Madrid. That's right readers, the same Real Madrid who Mertesacker has never played for.
Robbie is a bit of a muppet, but I do find him entertaining on 606 these days.
So that's Andy Two Saints, Per Mertesacker, Yossi Benayoun, and Mikel Arteta in, and Nik Bendtner out. I'm pleased that Arsene broke his duck, but why the effing last minute ffs?
Bendtner to Sunderland could really recharge Nik. I'm thankful it's a loan and we don't have to face him because I reckon they play a more direct game which he'll recognize and has thrived upon in a Denmark shirt.
Another cracker from the Guardian transfer blog
"Yakubu's physical is probably taking so long because much like buying a used car, you'd like to take at least one full walk around its exterior before you seal the deal,"
Hey Guys,
I am back from Tom's game
His team won 3-0... he had a goal and an assist!
Good moves by the Arse but why did they wait til so late!!!!
Stoke bought a few as well
