Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The team news out of Scouseland this morning:
Pool: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Kuyt, Lucas, Adam, Downing, Gerrard, Suarez.
Subs: Doni, Agger, Carroll, Henderson, Spearing, Bellamy, Robinson.
United: De Gea, Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Young, Jones, Fletcher, Park, Giggs, Welbeck.
Subs: Lindegaard, Anderson, Rooney, Hernandez, Carrick, Nani, Valencia.
Very interesting. Stevie G. starts his first match for the Scousesox in ages alongside my Golden Boot Boy Suarez. Still no room for Carroll.
And bad boy Wayne Rooney is on the bench while Fergie has gone with a very conservative looking line-up without any natural strikers.
Very surprised with the line up
No Rooney. No Vidic(he played midweek)
This is Giggs' first start of the season in the league
Phil Jones is in the midfield
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board, at least for a while. How was your Friday night?
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson explains his team selection at Anfield: "We felt we've been far too open recently. Bringing Phil Jones in midfield gives us more security. Wayne Rooney's had a bad week. He was devastated at the suspension. I just felt he'd be better starting on the bench. Ji-Sung Park's very fresh. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling missed the internationals, while Chicharito played a full 90 minutes against Brazil and didn't come back until Thursday."
Good morning BD. Great post. I don't like United's lineup.Giggs is starting in place of Nani . I am sure you are not pleased about that. We went conservative at Anfield last season and lost. We should go for it and play two strikers.
Morning BD,
My Friday evening was relaxing. Just hanging around at home with no games to go to. Jon's game was called off because of the rain. We have no games today either! Tomorrow, Tom has a game
I am here for the whole day
Two unbeatens, Citeh and Villa at 10 and then Chelsea Everton at 12:30
Good morning UWS. I see Fergie's logic, but don't agree that we've been opened up too much. We've one all but one match. Why change a winning formula?
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board for the big one. I'm with you - it's shocking that my boy Nani isn't in the starting XI.
Morning MUR
We've got a big storm sweeping through the region. I had planned on joining the Occupy Buffalo protests today but I may put that off until tomorrow if it gets bad.
Bloody NASCAR racing is still on. I guess we're going to have a short pregame show.
Can you believe it is Chelskilad's FIFTY-EIGHTH birthday??
Off to send him an email... maybe he will join us today
I forgot to congratulate on Tom's record at Adirondack CC. What an achievement! He almost has the career record. Way to go Tom!
United haven't taken any points at Anfield in four years!
Happy Birthday Chelskilad! I did not realize that he is already fifty eight.
Give Chelskilad my best on his 58th birthday. I'd love to hear from him today.
Let's change that. I don't think going conservative is the answer.
I agree with BD. It would be great to have Chelskilad on board today.
I'm listening to the 606 discussion of the Rooney ban while ESPN2 is farting about with the silly race cars.
Alan Shearer is in favor of bringing Roon to Poland/Ukraine - no surprise there.
Cheers MUR
Yup, NASCAR on until 7:40... afterall... this isn't that big of a game!
From Adam from Manchester, via text: "We have a five-man midfield making sure Liverpool don't score then second half the subs can really make an impact. In Fergie we trust."
I agree, MUR. United have been in cracking form while Pool have been going in fits and starts with very little consistency in the starting line-up.
It will probably be moot... England will be out after 3 games
Sounds like the Cult of Ferg is in full effect.
Well, United were in good form but they were hopeless and very lucky against Norwich last time out
I disagree - I think England are in the top six or eight sides in Europe. We should make the quarters and then it's a crap shoot.
What do you think about Gerrard playing?
Teams in the tunnel on Five Live and finally we are starting on the telly
Giggs to score today... he hasn't scored a league goal yet. He has scored in everyone of them
LeBron James is in the building
Here we go, then. It's the word-chewer Ian Darke next to Macca at Anfield. Apparently part-owner LeBron James is on hand for the match. Who knew?
LeBron James is part owner of Liversox? what does he know about football.
It'll be interesting to see Gerrard today. I think he may well be nearing the end of his career. How he bounces back from that injury will make or break him. He's not a definite member of next summer's England squad for me yet.
Of course, we are talking about United line up... Liverpool only have Suarez up top.... AT HOME
Well James has time on his hands!!!
I would not take Roon to Poland / Ukraine. I think England will make the quarters, but that means Roon would be available for only one match. I do agree with SAF that Roon is not in the right frame of mind.
Btw, while we have a commercial break, I saw a movie last night that both of you must see. It's called "The Trip" and it features Steve Coogan and Rob Bryden in a car touring the Lake District cracking jokes and doing impressions. It is hilarious - it'll have you rolling on the floor - seriously.
I am hearing Walk Alone on Five Live
ESPN usually show this
FIve Live just blacked out
Here we go
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I think Stevie G is back because it is a big match.I would expect Liversox to play with one up front because it's United.
Here we go then. United in that odd dark and light blue hoopy away number to get us underway.
NOT TODAY MATE, NOT TODAY
infostradLive on Twitter: "Liverpool's next goal will be their 1,200th in the history of the Premier League. The first was scored by Mark Walters on 19 August 1992."
Away we go
I understand Chicharito not playing. It was a long flight home. The teams kick off from Anfield.
USELESS START... we give away possession from the kick off
Phil Jones in midfield makes a bit of sense to me. I'm still unconvinced by him as a defender, mainly due to his positioning.
Sounds like a funny movie... i'll never be able to see it.
United can't touch the ball
Why not, you plonker - rent it for yourself. I guarantee that you will be pissing your pants laughing.
Great tackle by Evra to get a goalkick
Great defending by Evra on Stevie G.
Someone just commented on the BBC that his biggest surprise was no Anderson
I agree. it sounds like a hilarious movie.
How can you rent movies anymore?
I don't have netflix
He is correct. Anderson is the best player to ever play for United! Do you like the sarcasm?
Wonder who Macca wants to win???
Liverpool had a break chance but luckily it was Lucas on the ball
Lucas played in the same match as Chicharito. Why is he starting?
Lots of blood and thunder so far - but few chances.
Don't you have a movie rental store in Glenville?
United get away with a mistimed tackle by Smalling. Evra is up for this match.
This is United's 8th game
After next week's game, against Citeh, in their nine games they have already played Citeh, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal!
They all closed because of Neflix
We have blockbuster,Redbox, and another place, but I forget the name. It's something with Hollywood.
Unsurprisingly, with this line up, United are not attacking very well
Never mind, then. It's going on the Christmas/Hannukah holiday gift list for you two.
If we win this game and the Manc Derby then we will be in an excellent position having played the toughest part of our schedule.
Roon is having a bit of a laugh on the bench - what a numpty.
Ian Darke was slightly wrong in that statement.
He said it was 18 to 7 when Fergie took over.
Well, Liverpool won in 88 and 90 while Fergie was in charge to get to 18
I don't know about Rio either for next summer. The Golden Generation is starting to wane.
Nice clearing header by Evra
Lucas played against Brazil.. bring on Hernandez
I agree, BD. Roon is a nutcase. You are correct , UWS. How could Ian make such a glaring error?
This is true
From Danny, via text: "Utd may be lacking in firepower today, but we do have an extra striker in Carragher. OG extraordinaire."
That was a dive by Suarez. Horrible!
I agree about asking for cards is pathetic but it WAS a dive
Fergie needs some sunglasses today on the bench.
Great point , UWS. In Carradonna we trust!
Free kick chance for United... COME ON
Macca is a REAL homer.. SHUT IT
To be fair, that was Stewart Downing with the acrobatic dive, not my Golden Boot boy Suarez. I'd love a goal or two from Luis today, perhaps in a 4-3 thrilling United win?
I agree that it is questionable to take Rio next summer. I would take Jones and Smalling instead.
Useless... right into Pepe's hands
I agree. Not a good free kick from Ashley Young.
My Golden Boot choice, who is leading at the moment, is going to come on and score a brace!
This match has had a predictable start. Lots of commitment, but no chances.
Great turn and run by Welbeck but gave a poor pass.. United still get a chance. Not a good header by Jones
That's where you need a bloody striker. Evra with a brilliant overlap and cross and it's....Phil Jones on the end of it!
If that was Chicharito, it's 1-0 United.
Macca is really annoying me. He has to at least pretend to be impartial
Better from United as Young put Evra through. He crossed, but Phil Jones headed into the side netting from a narrow angle.
I agree. Shut it Macca!
Ferg must think that Roon's head isn't in it today with his life in chaos. Dad in the clink, marriage on the rocks, now the three-match ban.
I'm 37
I'm not old
what movie?
Macca "the biggest and best club in the World" I've got it on tape!!!
Rio is the last kind of player that the MLS needs.
Holy Grail.
Well done Dennis
With all the talk of United's line up, LiverSox have done nowt
Struth.. that was dangerous!
Oooh - the ball was fizzed across the United area and my GBB should have got the final touch.
That was Liversox's first chance as United were asleep at the short corner and Suarez just failed to connect.
United v Citeh is an early match on FSC next Sunday
This game has been hopeless.
NO CHANCES REALLY
I need to take Melanie top tennis at halftime. If she plays late I will be here for the second half, but if she plays early then I may not be here.
Lovely - I'll look forward to that.
I guess we play Citeh at OT. I wonder if it will be like this match.
Parenting!!!
i bet you he isn't watching it!
Suarez with an audacious turn and lob effort with De Gea off his line.
I'd love to see Villa stay unbeaten today
United look clueless about attacking
Martin Kelly crossed and De Gea looked confused on that cross. Luckily, his defense helped him out.
A couple of bad fouls coming in and the ref has lost his patience. Lucas into the book.
Accroding to Macca it's okay for Liversox to foul. How unbiased!
I think Andre Marriner was correct to book Lucas.
This is a very ENGLISH side Fergie has been put out
Smalling, Rio, Jones, Young and Welbeck
On top of that we have Evans, Giggs and Fletcher all being British
is Evans NoI or just RoI
Poor by Rio on Suarez.
I think Evans is Norn Irish.
It's great that SAF can put out a British side, especially if they win.
Welbeck looks really big and strong
That is correct. Evans is from Norn Ireland.
I like Welbeck a lot, just not in the way that Ferg is playing him.
United's passing has been atrocious!
His brother, Corry Evans, plays for Hull City after failing to make the grade with United.
One pass too many there from Pool. Someone should have hit that shot.
You seem to want to put him in the midfield. He looks a good striker to me
lovely by Gerrad... keep it up Steve
Well over by Stevie G. He doesn't look like a player who has been out injured. If he can stay fit then he should be able to go to Poland/ Ukraine this summer.
Giggs was blocked by OG.... he does it all the time
I didn't see Drac on the bench. Where the hell is your top scorer from last season?
I agree with UWS. United's passing has been horrible.
Drac has been poor whenever he has played recently. I think he must have really pissed off SAF.
Oh - great save De Gea from Suarez but he did hit it right at him.
Well done De Gea.... LiverSox break and it luckily falls to Suarez...phew!
What a save by De Gea as Suarez was put through. That was the best chance of the match.
King Kenny is saying, "I'd have had that one."
Kenny's thinking.. I would have scored!
The pass from Charlie Adam took a lucky deflection off of Rio. it was not a great pass.
jinx
Is De Gea trying out for the musical version of The Twilight series?
King Kenny would have scored that one.
Pepe hasn't had a save to make but De Gea just made his first!
Useless by Fletcher
Miles wide by Fletch.
I think I will skip the LA Derby
Swansea Wolves... is that going to get people up to watch!!!
Wolves v. Swansea? That's hardly a marquee match for ESPN2.
United cannot concede before half time... it wouldn't be deserved
I agree. It may be a decent match as Swansea like to play good football.
If we go in 0-0 at halftime then we will be in great shape, considering we are at Anfield.
Better by Rio as holds off Skrtel, who went on a long solo run.
That is correct Ian. Skrtel's Slovakia finished behind Estonia.
Great tackle by Park.... but wastes his chance
Park did well to win the ball back but then he had no one up for support and elected to shoot from distance.
Great tackle by Park on Enrique and great run , but a shame about the finish.
Roon is warming up on the touch line. I do agree that United look light weight.
Former England defender Danny Mills at Anfield on BBC Radio 5 live:"Liverpool must create some chances because I simply cannot see Manchester United coming out after the break and playing this formation this poorly."
Lots of fouls flying in now. Ashley Young into the book.
Young is booked after fouling Stevie G just outside the box.
"not many neutrals' ... especially the bloke to your right!!
Free kick chance for the Sox and Young is in the book
Keep it tight United
Danny Mills - LUFC legend!
De Gea punches clear
De Gea punches away the free kick from Charlie Adam.
Head clash between Lucas and Jones.
Jones and Lucas collide
Lucas is acting... he did think he could be in trouble
of course, Macca doesn't see it that way
I thought it was his head... they are looking at his leg and is hobbling. Are they going to play a man down for two minutes
Phil Jones is down after that clash with Lucas. Two minutes of stoppage time plus however long Jones is down.
NO THEY HAVEN'T!
The Suarez chance was a lucky bounce of a blocked shot...I don't think they have been any more dangerous than United
Half-time, lads. 0-0.
Have a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9bPJmy68Rs
That's it
Half time.... pretty useless by both teams
I have one thing to say to Liverpool... YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE AT HOME!!
Halftime and 0-0 from Anfield. I am not sure if I will be back for the second half.
CHEERS BD and UWS.
I have one thing to say about United:
"YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE CHAMPIONS! Why are you afraid of a side that finished 7th!"
We're back for the second half now.
I missed the kick off after rewinding to see the SAF piece
No changes by either team
Glad to see Jones is okay
Ashley Young with the opening salvo, well wide.
Nice early free kick chance now for United. Lucas is getting close to a second yellow.
Free kick chance for United... come on... Young with the shot but saved ...just
That's a shot Macca
Interestingly, all the big managers - Wenger, Redknapp, Mancini - support the idea of bringing Roon to the Euros. I don't get it.
Now it's Welbeck in trouble. Carradona does a nice job of bouncing back up. Good lad.
The movie looks great
Great impersonations!
Should have been a foul on Smalling there. Definite hand off.
All of them say that Rooney is one of the only World class players England has
Glad you enjoyed it - the routines between the two of them are brilliant. And there's more than an hour that they cut out that's on the DVD extras with them riffing with each other and doing impressions that they obviously didn't think would sell to the American market - Les Dawson, Peter Cook, even Basil Brush!
Roon is world class for United but he hasn't often showed that form for England - Euro 2004 was one of the only times.
Suarez with a nice move in the box... that's how he set up Kuyt last season
Liverpool wants a handball
United get a corner for some reason.
Comes to nothing
Hey, I don't think Rooney has been world class for United most of the time
He's was hopeless last season
No Rio digs in on Suarez and he's in trouble. Into the book.
I am back . Melanie doesn't play for at lest ninety minutes. I saw that Macca was impartial as he admitted that it was not a handball on Jonny Evans.
Nice acting BUGS BUNNY
They're making such a big thing about Rio never getting booked... he's going to get another and be off
That was harsh on Rio as he made minimal contact on Suarez, who made a meal of it. His first booking in 63 matches.
This game needs some changes. I'd like to see Carroll on for Pool and Chicharito on for United.
I know we are drawing but I am not happy about the score, game and performance
Carroll looks to comfortable on the bench... don't bother him Robert
I agree BD and UWS. I wonder if Roon should come come on in the last thirty minutes if it is still 0-0.
I agree. Let Carroll be happy.
Neither team deserves to win this one
Horrible passing
Liverpool give the ball away and United give it right back
I agree. If Glen Johnson cannot unseat Martin Kelly then would he go to the Euros this summer?
Jordan Henderson is on for Lucas.
Smart move by King Kenny - Jordan Henderson who can bomb forward a bit more on for the defensive Lucas who's on a card.
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
What's Evra playing at now?
