Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Best of luck
Can Leeds get one over on the Young Fergie?
Cheers, mate. I'm back at the crack of dawn for the match. The telly companies have unwisely snubbed the big match so I'm looking for a link.
No luck with the links - it looks as if we're going to have to rely on textual support from the Football 365 site. (sigh)
There has to be a link. I'll find you one
We are leaving around 8
How long is it going to take you?
The South Campus is closer to you than the other one
Good Morning BD . I am half asleep with the coffee brewing. How are you?
The team news is in thought:
Posh: Jones, Zakuani, Little, Alcock, Bennett, Frackington, Rowe, McCann, Tomlin, Boyd, Sinclair. Subs: Lewis, Thompson, Ball, Taylor, Tunnicliffe.
Leeds: Rachubka, Connolly, Lees, O'Dea, White, Vayrynen, Howson, Clayton, Pugh, McCormack, Keogh. Subs: Cairns, Kisnorbo, Nunez, Becchio, Sam.
Good morning UWS. How have you been?
Morning, lads - thanks for the early morning support. I'm still searching but no luck so far.
Orchard Park is about 45 minutes from me, UWS. No problem at all.
We start in 11th, Posh in 7th, but we've still got that match in hand that we'll play in mid-week.
Kick-off time! Come on, you Whites!
I just read something hilarious. Mark Hughes is criticizing Mancini's managerial style, blaming him for the "Tevez row." He said it would not have happened when he was in charge. Now who has been the more successful manager at Citeh Mr. Hughes?
From the LUFC site: "Manager Simon Grayson made one enforced change to his starting line-up for Leeds United's second ever league trip to London Road, Mika Vayrynen coming in to make his full debut in place of the injured Robert Snodgrass."
How could this be only the second ever trip to London Road?
Two minutes in and still 0-0.
Sparky's having a laugh IMHO.
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Keogh! 4th minute!!!!
0-1!
Leeds are already one up????
There's my reward for the early morning effort. Cheers, lads!
YESSS! 0-1 LEEDS AS I WAS FIXING A STRONG CUP OF COFFEE.
Man United play Everton at this time next Saturday. No rest for the weary.
That's Andy's second goal for the club. The McCormack-Keogh pairing is clicking along nicely. You can see why Simon has so far resisted tossing Luciano Becchio straight back into the fray after his injury. He'll have to fight for his place back with those two knocking them in every weekend.
I'm off for another cup!
Leeds have played Posh in only one other season because they have been confined to the bottom two divisions for most of their history. They were in the second tier in the early 90's when Leeds were in the top flight and when Leeds spent three seasons in L1, Posh went from L 2 to The Championship in consecutive seasons, so they only met one season.
If it were a school day I would be waking up about now.
It is still dark outside. It looks like two in the morning.
Still dark and cold here and all. I'm hoping the sun peeks out for Tom's match.
I am off to Dunkin Donuts for our travel Joe
Cheers, UWS!
It's been sunny every day here. It was cool for a few mornings with lows in the low 50s,but it will be back to the normal humid weather this weekend.
I like Dunkin Donuts coffee. We make it a point to have some whenever we go on vacation away from South Texas.
Roy Keane on Five Live last night:
"Big money has made players soft."
Tell that to Nigel De Jong, eh Keano!
Some are , but some are not.
I'm a big fan of Dunkin' Donuts as well. The big local chain here in Tim Horton's, named after a former Canadian hockey star. What's the big chain in Texas - Krispy Kreme?
Leeds still lead 0-1 at Posh. This should be a close match.
There's a chain called Shipley's , but we don't go because their doughnuts are nasty. We usually go to Wal-Mart for doughnuts.
Bugger! Zakuani has equalized for Posh.
1-1 Game on!
The morning coffee kicked in and I missed that. Sorry Bob. Both goals have been connected to coffee. Should I get a refill as Leeds scored when I poured coffee?
From LUFC: "And the game off to the perfect start for Leeds with Andy Keogh scoring inside four minutes. Adam Clayon played the ball into the box and Keogh showed tremendous skill to fire home to give United an early lead. But Peterborough were level in the 23rd minute when Gabriel Zakuani rose well to head home a looping corner kick at the far post."
I think that might do the trick. I'm still working on mine and a fresh bagel at my side.
I would be taking Jacquelyn out to wait for the bus around this time on a school day.
Elizabeth is making blueberry muffins as Melanie needs to wake up in thirty minutes because she is auditioning for regional orchestra at the middle school level.
Wow - that sounds great. I love a blueberry muffin. All my best to your family, David.
I just turned on the deuce as Wolves host Swansea with the Swans as favorites. Who would have predicted this at the start of the season.
Thanks Bob. The same to your family. I hope everyone is doing well.
Lots of strange stories around the Premiership this week. First Patrice Evra made a claim that Luis Suarez racially abused during the match last weekend. Suarez denies it.
Now, Fernando Torres apparently uses a faith healer in the dressing room before matches at Stamford Bridge. It's not Roy Keane's game anymore, is it?
Ian and Macca are at Molineaux. as Mick is under pressure because Wolves have lost five in a row.
I read about the Evra claim, but not Torres. The faith healer is not doing the job and should be sacked.
Boy there was a lot of chatter for one coffee comment
Posh midfielder Lee Frackington has been booked for a foul on Aidy White.
Wolves owner, Jez Moxey said that he is happy with the job Mick is doing.
Is the Swansea v. Wolves on the telly?
Yes. It is on ESPN 2.
welcome back, UWS. How are the Dunkin Donuts? We don't have any in Harlingen.
Cheers, mate. Thanks for the tip. I've got it on now.
Did you hear that there was an earthquake about 200 miles north of us on Thursday? It was 4.6 on the Richter scale , but we did not feel anything.
Teams coming out at Molineux. I'd love to see a Swans win there. I've enjoyed them in the Prem.
The teams are coming out of the tunnel at Molineaux. Is this a relegation six pointer?
I agree. I second that.
Way hay! Posh down to the ten men!
"The game took a twist in the 37th minute when Tomlin went straight through the back of Keogh in a challenge midway in the Peterborough half and the referee pulled out a straight red card. Keogh needed treatment following what looked like a reckless challenge."
Wow - I did not hear about that earthquake. Is that common for your area. We used to get tremors almost daily where we were in Japan.
Time to take advantage of that one-man difference. Come on, you Whites!
No. It is very rare. There have been ten in the last eighteen years.it was the worst since 1993.
The match kicks off from Molineaux.
It's kicked off at Molineux and Karl Henry has an early shot beaten away by the Swansea keeper.
I read the live commentary and missed the red card as Karl Henry nearly scored in the first minute.
I'd love another Leeds goal before half-time to take into the dressing room.
It was poor Swansea defending and Worm was well positioned to block with his knee.
I second that as Leeds should have the advantage in the second half.
Wolves win an early corner that is headed away. They have dominated the early stages.
We are in the third minute of stoppage time at London Road.
Mick McCarthy has obviously sent the lads out with a sense of fire in the belly. Swansea will have to weather the early pressure.
Now the fourth minute of stoppage time. There must have been a long stoppage for that red card offense.
The first has has ended and it is 1-1 at London Road.
Nathan Dyer has a shot deflected for a Swansea corner that almost went in .
Half time at London Road. 0-0.
I'm still confused about how this could be only the second ever time that Leeds have played there. How could that be? Is London Road a new stadium? Surely Leeds must have played away to Posh many times over the years, right?
Of course - 1-1 at London Road. My mistake.
The corner is cleared, but Wolves fail to break. Swansea are slowly creeping into this match.
Good luck in the second half Bob
We are leaving a few minutes
What is the weather going to be like this afternoon?
Joe Allen has a long range effort tipped over by Hennessey.
Danny Graham shoots wide from a difficult angle off the throw.
Leeds have only played Posh one other season. That was three years ago in L1.
As Ian stated Swansea are not here to defend. They will attack Wolves.
DIdn't Leeds and Posh have an epic FA Cup saga in the early seventies?
Nathan Dyer has a cross blocked for a corner. He has been a pest for that Wolves defense.
I am not sure. I know they lost to Colchester in the FA cup and then non league Wimbledon took them to a replay.
Yeah, it could have been Colchester... well done
Swansea have been the slightly better team after early Wolves dominance.
We're off... enjoy the rest of the morning
TTFN
See you bright and early in the morning MUR.... see you this afternoon Bob
Thanks, UWS. I wish Tom well today and Bob needs to be sure to be there.
Cheers, UWS. Looks like decent weather this afternoon. High of 52F, partially cloudy with sunshine. Not bad.
Cheers, UWS. Have a great time at the match.
Yes - one of the big giantkilling shocks of the 70s - I've repressed the memory.
Not bad conditions. It will be near 90 and sunny in Harlingen.
Swansea have had 72% of the possession the last five minutes. That's what I thought.
Rangel blocks from Jarvis then Doyle has an effort blocked. Worm saves from Ebanks-Blake. Swansea scramble away for a corner. Off the corner , O;Hara blocks and it breaks to the keeper. The best spell of pressure from either team.
I was not aware that Brendan Rogers was the reserve team coach at Chelski.
The second half should have started at London Road.
GOAL! Graham scores for Swansea against the run of play. 0-1!
GOAL !!! 0-1 SWANSEA AS DANNY GRAHAM PUTS THE SWANS 0-1 UP AS ROGER JOHNSON WAS OUT OF POSITION.
The second half has begun at London Road.
The second half at London Road kicks off with Leeds in 8th and Posh in 5th.
Tunicliffe has come on for Alcock at the beginning of the half.
Worm does well to tip over a free kick from Adam Hammill.
Hammill heads wide from the corner.
WOW! 100 comments this early in the morning.
Lloyd Sam has come on for Mika Varynen.
We've done well - good effort!
Stephen Ward makes a great tackle on Dyer for a Swansea corner.
Henry heads out for another Swansea corner.
I'd like to see "Il Principito" - Ramon Nunez - or "Yorkshire Nani" as UWS likes to call him in the second half. Without Snoddy I fear that we don't have enough width.
The ref blows for a foul and that ends Swansea's spell of pressure.
I think you have a great chance with the extra man.
Is it a penalty for Wolves?
Penalty to Wolves! No, the referee has pointed for a free kick just outside the area. Ref has got it right - good one.
It was a foul , but an inch outside the box. A let off for Swansea. Well done ref!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!
ADAM CLAYTON HAS GIVEN LEEDS THE LEAD.
Time for us to take advantage now.
Come on, you Whites!
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
Clayton! 1-2!
Posh respond with a change as Paul Taylor is on for Emile Sinclair.
Just as I was typing that, my prayers were answered. Lovely jubbly!
Jaime O'Hara curled the free kick right to Worm.
GOAL! Swansea score a second and the boos are ringing for Mick McCarthy around Molineux.
0-2 Swans!
GOAL !!!! 0-2 SWANSEA AS JOE ALLEN SCORES WITH AN EASY TAP IN FROM A CROSS BY DANNY GRAHAM AFTER A NICE THROUGH BALL.
That's Adam Clayton's third goal of the season. We're certainly scoring enough goals. It'll be a matter of ensuring that Posh don't match us at the other end now.
This would be humiliating for Wolves if they were to be thrashed at home to Swansea.
Wolves are all over the place at the back. Am I wrong in remembering that Roger Johnson was in the England squad not too long ago. He's not looking the part today, for sure.
A wolves effort lands in row Z as the Wolves fans moan and groan.
I agree. He has been responsible in some way for both goals. He had a good year when Birmingham survived, but was poor last year.
Swansea easily head away that Wolves free kick.
Wolves have a corner.
Danny Graham has scored in three consecutive matches. He has been a great signing from Watford.
Grant McCann has been booked for Posh.
Great run by O'Hara as his cross is headed away, but Karl Henry drags the shot well wide.
Why on earth would David Platt and Roberto Mancini be here today? Free prawn sandwiches at half time?
Mancini and David Platt are in attendance at Molineaux. Will Mark Hughes criticize them for that?
Nathan Dyer drags an effort straight to Hennessey.
Lloyd Sam has been booked for Leeds.
Bloody hell - we're currently third in the table. Nosebleed territory!
And may I remind that we've merely made up the match in hand this morning. All the teams bar Posh are now on 12 matches.
Leeds have had lots of pressure without really troubling Paul Jones in the Posh goal.
Even crazier, we would be second if we'd been able to hang on to that lead against Coventry on Tuesday. They scored in the 93rd minute!
Leeds in the EPL next season?
Wolves with more Keystone Kops defending. Could easily be 0-3.
Danny Graham shoots at Hennessey, but he had to parry it away and the Wolves clearance was almost an OG.
I expect a chorus of boos at halftime.
I can't imagine it again. Have a look again at our starting XI today. Who among them are Premiership quality.
Maybe Jonny Howson? That's it. The others are all playing well above their ability at present.
Natan Dyer broke, but his pass was misplaced. One minute of stoppage time.
The Wolves defenders are making Chelski reject Scott Sinclair look like Ronaldo here.
You never know. We asked the same question of Norwich and Swansea and they are doing a decent job.
Lloyd Sam has been booked for a foul on Tommy Rowe.
Twenty minutes to play now.
Nathan Dyer is down injured and Wolves fans have lost interest as they are busy texting on their cell phones.
it is halftime and Swansea lead 0-2. As I predicted, A chorus of boos.
I didn't hear as many boos at the whistle as I'd expected from the Wolves crowd. Perhaps they're used to this shite.
I will miss the last ten minutes of the Leeds match as I need to take Melanie for her orchestra audition. I will be back into the second half of the match at Molineaux.
That is a good point,BD.
From LUFC.com: "The game had steadily been building in terms of challenges and the final half-hour was threatening to become a real feisty affair as free-kicks became common place."
Sure thing - I hope Melanie is enjoying the orchestra.
Scouser Macca trotting out some impressive Spanish language skills there.
Down to fifteen minutes at London Road. Hang in there, lads!
Thank you, BD. I will take her in about five minutes.
If Leeds hold on, this would be a great away win as Posh have been off to a decent start and are not pushovers.
"United were stlll playing some nice stuff and McCormack was denied by some good defending after being picked out at the far post by Connolly."
Just over ten minutes left at London Road. Come on, you Whites!
Posh makes their final change as David Ball is on for Lee Frecklington.
I agree - we've had a few easy fixtures in a row, which has improved our standing. But this is a challenging one. It would be an excellent result if we could hang on.
I am off. I should be back in about thirty minutes.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
Cheers, mate. Chat with you later.
Inside the last ten minutes. This is the critical moment. I'd like to see another substitution at this moment for some fresh legs.
There's that substitution. Top scorer Ross McCormack off and Yorkshire Nani - Ramon Nunez - on for him. Hopefully he can corner flag it a bit in the waning moments. Nothing fancy.
The second half has kicked off at Molineux. Very quiet there now.
From LUFC.com: "As the game ticked into the final 15 minutes, United were still in control, and you couldn't help but feel Grayson's men were one clinical move away from adding a third to put the game beyond doubt."
Five minutes plus stoppage time now to play at London Road. Blow up, ref!
We're still attacking in the 87th minute - good side. We're finishing on the up. No silly slip-ups, lads. Come on!
ARRRRGGHGHHHGHGHHG!!!!
2-2 at London Road, just when I was feeling good about this one. We've thrown two points away yet again.
Mark Little scoring in the 88th minute for Posh there.
Back down to fifth and 19th points. Probably more reasonable terrain, in truth.
Grayson has thrown Luciano Becchio into the fray - can last season's hero do the damage for us!?
From LUFC.com: "But disaster struck for Leeds two minutes from time. A high ball was pumped into the box and while no one dealt with the ball, Little stole in on the melee of Leeds defenders to stab the ball home."
Sounds like our typical defending.
The last thing we need now is to concede another goal in stoppage time.
Deep into stoppage time now. I'll take the point. It sounds as if we're a bit under the cosh at present.
Darren O'Dea with a yellow card right at the death.
Must be close to the final whistle now unless there is a lot of time lost during the match.
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Becchio with the vital goal at the death!!!!!!
WOWWWWWWW~!~~~
2-3!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And there's the final whistle! My heart is racing! We've snatched the three points right at the death.
It's just as we deserved. I thought that our rotten defense had lost us the points but Becchio came up trumps once again.
Wow! Just wow!
I've just about got my breath back now. The Wolves v. Swansea match has settled at this point. 0-2 still with an hour gone.
Here's how LUFC.com described the final moments:
"But it was Leeds who snatched the game when substitite Luciano Becchio seized upon a loose ball in the box after an effort hit the bar, and the South American converted to seal the points.
It was a dramatic winner for Grasyson's men and, on the balance of play, was deserved."
That's only Luciano's second of the season but he's hardly featured and usually in the waning moments off the bench.
McCarthy is taking Jarvis off and the crowd is livid with that decision.
They're chanting "You don't know what you're doing!" Wow!
WOW! I missed some late drama as Posh tied it up and Becchio scored the winner deep into stoppage time.Leeds held on for a dramatic 2-3 away win.
I am back, BD. and Hennessey tipped a shot from Sinclair around the post off the corner.
Ashley Williams headed across from the corner and graham shot wide as Swansea still lead 0-2 at Molineaux.
A loss at home to Swansea may be too much for Jez Moxey and the Wolves fans. On top of that, it would be six consecutive losses for Wolves. Will Mick win the sack race?
Swansea made a change, but all I saw was Leon Britton.
Slow and predictable by Wolves, then possession is cheaply conceded.
Hennessey saves from Scott Sinclair.
Welcome back, mate. I'm still recovering from that late, late show. Wow!
Worm is fouled by Ward as Milijas took a short free kick and the cross took a weird deflection.
I missed all the action. You heart must have been racing and you must have been out of breath. It was a vital three points.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mick were to win the sack race but Steve Keane at Blackburn has got to be neck and neck with him.
I think Keane earned a reprieve with that win against Arsenal. Mick looks like having six consecutive losses and a home loss to Swansea.
Leeds are up into third place on 21 points and +6 GD. with 12 matches played. That's 29 points to get in 34 matches to play. Doable, definitely.
The free kick from Milijas deflects and Worm comes out to gather.
The could have been three as Hennessey save and the Wolves defense failed to clear. 200 comments.
