Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The US: 4-5-1, presumably
Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson Boca, Chandler; Williams, Dempsey, Beckerman, Edu, Shea; Dozy
Subs from Hamid, Orozco Fiscal, Bradley, Fabian Johnson(?) J.Jones, Beastly, and Buddle
France GK Hugo Lloris (Lyon); Ds Matthieu Debuchy (Lille), Adil Rami (Valencia), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Jeremy Mathieu (Valencia); MFs Jeremy Menez (PSG), Yann M’Vila (Rennes), Marvin Martin (Sochaux), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich); Fs Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kevin Gameiro (PSG).
OK, don't care about the game, just that Koz gets through in one piece.
Interested in seeing Menez again. I quite fancy him and was surprise that he move from Roma to PSG without much fanfare or competing bids.
Koz gets a touch and doesn't break apart. Good start. Apparently Arsene is in the ground. He will see the incident this time.
So far, it's France with the possession, and Ribery and Benzema looking sharp.
Defensively, the US is handling them, but where is the evidence of possession and tempo in the US game?
Menez with a very dangerous run stopped heavily by Goodson but ref sees nowt wrong w' it.
Newboy Williams with a attempt to go by Matthieu looks very raw. Can't believe that trick works in the Bundesliga.
France with a rare gift of possession allows Chandler to put in a low cross that Dozy isn't in the box to take advantage of.
And that in a nutshell is what the biggest problem for Klinsmann has to be: In Dozy's the lone striker, and the only other one in the team tonight is Buddle. Sure Dempsey can push up to run the line, but the dearth of goal hunting strikers for the USA is a huge headache for Juergen.
I was watching the Mighty U's... they're losing 1-0
I am off to coach
TTFN
Croatia and the odious Bilic are 3-0 up against Turkey in Turkey.
Ireland up by 1 so far.
Cheerio coach.
Dozy got into a good position with the ball and spun tightly ok, but fell back and lost his balance.
Shea's busy on up and down the line but not showing up really just yet.
Tim collects a cross right off the toes of Menez who plays like Ljungberg arriving with a late run into the box. Calm stuff from Tim.
Someone in the crowd has a green laser that they're trying to distract Tim Howard with.
VERY Close from Ribery at Tim's near post. His flick went wide.
The French are roasting Chandler and Cherundolo at will. Benzema should be running into the box every time, but he's dropped a little deep like Rooney does. Curious.
USA corner....
and someone wins it but it's weak and Loris snaffles it up easily.
Throws it out to Ribery who leads a 3 on 3 break that finishes up with Benzema's shot blocked
Menez would fit in very well at the Emirates; his hair is ridiculous.
Whereas, I don't see yet what the big deal is about M'Vila. He plays the Song role, but I can't see how we'd play them together at Arsenal, and I think it's better to have Frimpong as a young understudy rather than a high-waged much sought after French international.
tbf, the US is getting out of our half regularly, but it's falling apart as soon as we approach the danger area.
Dozy makes space, turns and shoots low and very wide.
Dozy wins a corner. Cherundolo takes, but hits it out of bounds before it comes back in. Disappointing.
Actually M'Vila is their center half and just hasn't had much to do.
Good quick interplay between Ribery and Martin and Benzema ends with a shot from Menez that whistles by the upright. Close there from France.
Still nil-nil in Portugal.
Hiya, mate. I'm here after an energizing but chilly Occupy march to enjoy the rest of the match with you.
Love the bereted, Gitanes smoking image for the French.
Beckerman is well out of his depth and concedes a free at the top of the box. Very dangerous. Or would be if Matthieu hadn't hit a shin-stinger right at the wall.
Ian Darke says this is a good performance against world class opposition and Harkes immediately brings him up by saying, "No real goal threat though is there?" Nice one Harkesy.
The French are playing in unfamiliarly dark blue shirts and shorter shorts and some of their guys like Matthieu for instance look like the rugby players.
Good afternoon Gooner. How have you been? Isee that it is 0-0 bewtween France and the U.S.I am surprised to see Croatia winning 0-3 in Turkay They are out to avenge that loss in a penalty shootout in Euro 2008.
The French look rather uninspired - has that been the story so far?
Good afternoon BD. I agree . It is an excellent image. Is there a link for the match?
Afternoon, MUR! How's your week been?
Chandler runs into Debouchey and comes off the worse. Given the "how many fingers" test by the physio and the US down to 10.
The French v. USA match is on ESPN2. I'm going to search for a link for the Ireland match as well.
Les Bleus are being booed off the pitch as the half-time whistle goes.
Benzema peels off the shoulder of Chandler when he comes back and is left one on one with Howard. He overruns his shot and can't get it out from under his feet and the danger passes.
Peep-peep, and it's 0-0 at the half.
It must be halftime . Iam at work , so I am watching on firstrowsports. I saw a commercial of Timmy.
I am on the correct link. I am watching Lexy, Max,and Macca .
I am tired of hearing about Penn State. Don't want to hear about it during a footie matc.
Two Euro qualifiers have finished. The final scores are:
Bosnia 0 Portugal 0
Turkey 0 Croatia 3
You'd have to believe that the French are more disappointed with that than the USA are. We've been occasionally lucky at the back, with little fluency from there to the midfield or from the mid to the lone striker. I don't think we've looked settled enough in midfield to take much pleasure out of the scoreline. We're not getting the ball to Dempsey or Shea, who might offer foils for Dozy. Instead, they're thrown into the dig-fest along with Edu and Beckerman. I seriously don't see what Williams is doing. He's not making tackles, or finding space to collect the ball. I wouldn't write him off forever, but no way would he make a second half appearance.
Someone has to support Dozy. He's not good, accept it, but leaving him up front to battle it out with Koz, M'Vila, and Mattieu doesn't give him any chance at all. I've seen him play much worse than this, but God help him, he's at least trying to hold it up or get a shot off.
Drop Williams to the bench and bring on Buddle to pair with Dozy, or drop Williams, bring on James to dig it out in the mid and push Nagadotches Ice up to work with Dozy.
3-0 Croatia over Turkey at the half
1-0 Czechs at the half
1-0 Ireland at the half
Portugal tied 0-0 at the half.
I'm onto a like for the Ireland v. Estonia match here:
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/91211/1/watch-estonia-vs-ireland.html
Still 0-1 through that Robbie Keane goal.
Portugal and Croatia vs Turkey are final scores. The "experts" in the studio concur with you. It sounds like the U.S. must be more adventurous.
Seriously. Only thing I want to hear any more about Penn State is news of school wide indictments, and a 10 year ban from Conference play and immediate release to their junior and senior players to any other College that will have them. The Sophomores and Freshman should be allowed to transfer and red-shirt a year somewhere else.
Hard to imagine that Cristiano and co. won't be able to pull out a result against Bosnia in these playoffs.
I am at work , so i am not sure if I should watch the U.S. or Ireland. Any advice , gentlemen.
I agree with both BD and Gooner. Spot on about Penn State, Gooner.I agree that Portugal should win in Lisboa.
Thanks for that correction. Poor Skippy, eh? No, not really. Screw him. Turkey laying down at home is a bit of a surprise. And with their illegal betting and match fixing, it looks doubly odd.
I disagree with Ian. This is a friendly. The U.S. should show more in attack.
French players trooping back onto the pitch looking none to pleased with their efforts in the first half.
Larry White is coming out of the tunnel. He doesn't look like a happy chappy.
Are there any Arsenal players in the Arsenal match? Hmmmm, I'll watch this one.
We're underway again in Paris. No changes? WTF?
I won't be sad not to see the Turks in Poland/Ukraine next summer.
The second half kicks off from The Stade De France.
I agree. I won't miss them.
That means lot of changes in the second half as each team is allowed six changes.
A nasty challenge by Maurice Edu on Diarra after a poor pass by Williams. The free kick by Rami is well wide.
Edu leaves a mark on some bloke and is lucky not to pick up a card. The ensuing free is belted late-era Roberto Carlos style into row F.
I wouldn't be happy if I were "Larry" either. This French side shows you everything that's wrong with the top level game right now. They're all very competent, functional, tactically superior players, but none of them have an ounce of excitement about them.
The Frech fans jeer their team. They are not impreesed with their Les Bleus.
The Czechs have snatched a second goal right at the death of their match with Montenegro, so that's a fairly comfortable lead to take into the second leg.
The Czechs take a 2-0 lead over Montenegro in the 90th minute. I would be surprised if the Czechs do not qualify.
A useless pass by M'Vila after a sloppy clearance by Timmy.
Seriously, when you look at Gamero, Matthieu and Benzema, you think "rugger" don't you?
A tame effort by Beckerman from long range goes straight to LLoris.
The French are unbeaten in 15 games, yes, but how many of those were draws. I get the sense from this limited view that Les Bleus could play all day long without either scoring or conceding.
I had not thought about that. Perhaps they would be better off playing rugger.
Beckerman is the 99%
It seems that way.I don't see the French lifting the trophy this summer.
Definitely a rugger tackle there on Dempsey. Subs warming up from the US bench now. Who would you lot like to see come on?
Wahey! Ireland get another.
Lovely. Ireland are 0-2 up now. Home and hosed, you'd think.
Jon Walters has put Ireland 0-2 up in Estonia. LOVELY JUBBLY!
Buddle for Williams and push Nagadotches Ice up front.
Agreed - Kyle would not look out of place leading the drum circle in Zucotti Park.
Benzema off the bar!!
Timmy pushes an effort from Lamouchi around the post.
OH! Benezema shoots off the bar from the corner.
The French have switched up a gear. The US will have to weather the next ten or fifteen minutes of pressure.
What's Edu doing? He wouldn't get away with that kind of shove in Scotland.
Now France have a free kick in a great position after a foul by Edu.
GOAL! Robbie Keane has added a third goal for the Irish!!!!
Woah! Amazing save from Howard.
a superb save by Timmy from the free kick by Benzema , than cleared for a corner.
The French are queuing up now. Goals are immanent from them surely.
Good striker's goal there. Free kick can in swerving at the keeper. The keeper could only save with his legs. Robbie mopped up out front.
Several blocked shots by Beckerman as the French start to dominate.
Great news for the Irish as they lead 0-3 . They must be home. The match in Dublin must be a formality.
Any of the French impressed you today, Gooner?
MVila shoots well over after a great run by Menes that started with a great tackle by Kos.
Putain! says M'Vila, but he was having a laugh thinking he'd score from there. Off goes Gemero, and M'Vila.
The French make two changes.Mvila is booed as he comes off.Giroud is on for MVilla.Gonalons on for Camero.
The Gooner would have Menez and Benzema in a red hot minute.
The Czech Republic have defeated Montenegro 2-0.
Estonia are down to ten men now. It's looking even more bleak for them.
Strange timing of those subs, no? They had us on the rack and since then they've set back again to give us a little life.
Actually, I'm told that Estonia are down to nine men. A wretched evening for them.
WOW!!! Estonia are down to nine men as the biggest day in their short football history goes horribly wrong.
Cambridge United trail 1-2 vs Wrexham in the First Round of the FA Cup
Oooh, I'd have a bit of Loic Remy at the Emirates too. Don't need to see any more of him to know that.
Remy is on for Ribery. Martin is on for Benzema.
Jermaine Jones is on for Kyle Beckerman.
Is that Jones?
Germany have come from 3-1 down in the Ukriane to tie it up. It is now 3-3.
Jurgen seems to be trying to lock things up with Jermaine Jones coming on. The US weathered the worst of it. I can't really see the French rousing themselves for much more at this point.
Scotland won 1-2 in Cyprus.
20 minutes is a long time to live on your nerves. The guys they brought on have goals in them once they find their way in this.
On the other hand, I don't see us scoring.
A superb double save from Timmy.
Oh, lucky from Tim Howard off Remy's instinctual stab at goal. Giroud following up just missed
I agree. I don't see anyone scoring!
I'm sorry that Shea didn't really feature tonight. He was doing something new and it wasn't highly successful. He's been so good in the previous games that screwing with that doesn't seem right to me.
Beastly on now. Who's 15 for us?
Da Marcus is on for Brek Shea. Fabian Johnson is on for Williams for his U.S. debut as the Hoffenheim player plays his first match for the U.S.
Bugger! France sneak the goal that will probably seal the deal. Loic Remy with the goal.
GOAL !!!! 1-0 AS REMY GIVES FRANCE THE LEAD WITH A GREAT FINISH AS HE OUTMUSCLES GOODSON.
Remy with a very classy finish. Yeah, he'd be great at the Grove.
For all the tactical sophistication it was a simple long ball over the top that undid the US defense there. Good finish from a strong Remy.
To be honest the Frech deserve to be ahead based on their second half perfromance.
Ireland now lead 0-4 in Estonia. A great night for the Irish.
Robbie Keane has converted a penalty to make it 0-4 Ireland.
Now I wonder if having Shea on the field and put wide like he played before would be the way to get back int the match. Too late now. It's Beastley out there and that's 15 minutes of blind alley bothering.
Robbie Keane scored his second as he scored from the spot.
Into stoppage time in Talinn.
A ball over the top, yes, but a headed ball to get there that Jones should have taken care of.
Edson Buddle is on for Williams.
Dempsey gets upended by Koscielny there and the Arsenal man picks up a card.
Kos is booked for a foul on Clint just outside the box after after a great long ball from Jozy.
I think Dempsey's lucky that Koz elbowed him. He was really slow to get onto Dozy's nice flicked through ball.
Clint shoots high and wide from the free kick.
The Irish are dancing on the pitch now after having put Estonia to the sword in their playoff.
Well wide by Marvin Martin
Cambridge United have tied it in stoppage time vs Wrexham in the First Round of the FA Cup as it is now 2-2. It looks as if there will be a replay.
Debouche is booked for a nasty challenge on Clint.
By the way, Putain! at Larry White for running Koz out for the full 90. Every bloody time, our players play every flippin' minute.
Cambridge United 2 WREXHAM 2 IS A FINAL SCORE IN THE fIRST ROUND of the FA Cup.
I agree. I do not blame you for being upset.
Wrong! Clint, head that at goal!
Great news for the Irish. They are all but qualified for their second ever Euro and first since 1988.
Some late pressure here from the US. It would be lovely if we were able to sneak an equalizer.
Late by Jozy on Rami.
I agree. It would be great to see the U.S. score. I hope they win in Slovenia on Tuesday.
Oh - Edson Buddle got free there but couldn't find Jozy with his center.
Another great U.S. attack, bvut it was a poor pass from Edson Buddle.
Great tackle by Jermaine Jones on Remi that leads to a France corner.
Good tracking back there from JJ.
Four minutes of stoppage time. That must be due to the numerous substitutions.
That should have been a second French goal as Giroud shot side with just Timmy to beat.
Let off there. Should be down 2-0 but Giroux really flubbed his shot.
Menes goes a nice run after going past Cherunduloh and has a cross deflected off of Goodson.
Jozy was just offside as he was through and pulled down by Kos.
Koz, dodges a red there.
Gonalons wins a corner off of Goodson.Giroud shoots at Timmy from the corner. and that's it as France win 1-0.
It was great chatting . Will anyone be around for England vs Spain tomorrow.
I'll be around for that.
Cheerio lads.
Cheers lads!
