United Need to Complete the Job
We have a Europa League double header as the opening act is Valencia vs Stoke City at 1 PM. The Potters basically need a miracle to progress and face the winner of PSV and Trabzonspor in the next round. They trail 0-1 from the first leg and have a tough match in Spain. This is followed by United vs Ajax at 3:05 PM where they should progress after winning 0-2 in Amsterdam last week. There is even a Championship match as Derby County hosts Leicester City in an East Midlands Derby make up form the frozen weather earlier this month. Come join us for all the Thursday action.

Car-boot salesman Pubis has decided to rest 9 starters for the trip to Valencia.
Naked-shower-debater Pubis denies that this decision "is akin to fielding a weakened team." Has no reply to the charge that the number of players on the plane doesn't allow for a full-compliment of subs. 4 instead of the UEFA allowed 7.
Pathetic whinging shell-suit enthusiast Pubis might use the 3 sub spots for ball-boys with absorbant towels. Not confirmed however.
Insufferable little c**k Pubis getting advice about whether he's allowed to put a Stoke shirt on the team bus to make it eligible to play at centre-back. Ricardo Fuller asks, "but what will I wear, boss?"
LOL Gooner. Typical of Pubis. A cowardly move on his part if you ask me. They are still in this tie if they can nick a goal off a long throw and with three towel boys then why not. I guess he figures that if they have to stuggle to handle the likes of Crawley then what chance do they have against a team like Valencia.
I'm here to enjoy the afternoon's footer. Hope to hear from you lads.
The line-ups out of Spain today:
Valencia - Gualita, Brunu, Rami, Dealbert, Alba, Parejo, Topal, Hernandez, Jonas, Piatti, Aduriz.
Stoke City - Sorenson, Diao, Huth, Woody, Collins, Arismendi, Delap, Palacios, Jerome, Jones, Fuller.
This link seems to be working well:
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/109309/1/watch-valencia-cf-vs-stoke-city.html
It would be a miracle if Stoke were to be able to get out of Valencia with a 1-2 or better win that would see them through.
Bloody hell - Huth has given up a silly foul on the edge of the D within seconds of the kick-off!
Afternoon boys
I still have Gol TV so I will be able to watch the United AJax match later on
This Sunday is a biggie!
The North London derby and United's trip to Norwich are both at 8:30
FSC have the London match and FSC+ has the United match. I still have both channels so i will be able to watch both
The Carling Cup Final is on FSC at 11
Off the crossbar from Parejo! I think Sorenson got a touch too. Whew!
Afternoon, UWS! Good to have you on board.
Hey,
I am watching Twenty 20 cricket with England and Paki right now
"Whinging shell-suit enthusiast" Tony Pulis is already having a chat with the 4th official.
First Rory Delap long throw of the evening and - what that derisive laughter from the Valencia crowd? They haven't seen that tactic since 1924 here.
Stoke City are an embarrassment to have in the Europa League, especially at this stage. Couldn't England have entered Aldershot instead? Crewe?
You are...NocitoSportscenter!
Good afternoon BD and UWS. I am starting my lunch period. I would think that Crawley or Stevenage would be a better choice.
I don't know why everyone (Dahlgren) is so negative to the long throw! What is the difference of having a long throw or a corner? You can be more precise with a throw in
When I was playing in college, I had a long throw that was dangerous. Mine came in at height. Another player could throw it on a line drive to the back post
Tom, in college this year, was a major threat with his long throws
Huth has clattered the Valencia keeper there.
I'm negative about it because it's the same as a long hoof into the box. It's low percentage and gives possession away more often than not...or it should do!
What is the difference between a corner and throw in?
I will be around till halftime, then will join you again about twenty five minutes into the match at OT.
COME ON YOU TOWEL BOYS!
Isn't a corner just a hoof into the box?
Isn't a free kick just a hoof into the box?
Interesting debate!
Well, you're more limited with your options with a corner. You have to put it back in play, so either you knock it long into the box for on-rushing players or you play it short, which I know you don't like.
With a throw, you have the opportunity just toss it back into play and start building your attack again through putting the ball on the ground. Have you ever seen a good goal scored from a long throw? It's always a mad scrambly, ugly finish.
Sounds like like lots of Sotke fans made the journey to Spain.
Ricardo Fuller wins a corner off a long throw from Danny Collins.
Your thoughts on the long throw controversy, MUR?
Oh - a slightly different throw from Delap actually produced some decent play there. Good ball over and Jones only a few yards out should have scored with a header. I don't think he expected that good a ball in.
We always had a man make a back header at the front post
Peiterson is out for Engladn 48 for 1 chasing 144
That was a chance for Jones as a weird throw from Delap to Fuller was returned to De lap , who crossed for Kenwyne to head straight up into the air and the keeper easily gathered.
My opinion is that the long throw is for teams that have exhausted all options. I have never seen a World Cup winning team resort to the long throw.
Will Stoke get a btter chance than they di with that header from Kenwyne?
Some moronic singing from the Potters fans - "When the Stoke goes marching in." What is a "stoke" and does it really march?
Ta, MUR - you are a gentleman and a scholar.
As for you, UWS - I fart in your general direction. ;-}
I had an incident at my college on Tuesday.
I was giving a test so I just went out in the hallway to get a drink from the fountain and I notice a female student of mine in the stairwell. With me coming out, it gave her an opening to get out of the stairwell but this guy started to block her way. I told him he had to let her go in the class. He would let her. I had to call security and they came up. In the meantime, the guy stood at my doorway and started yelling at my class!
I think he did hit my student had a cut inside her mouth. I have to go in early this evening and make a statement to security. Have you had anything like this happen in any of your classes?
Bloody hell - another fantastic chance for Jones and he just scuffed it by the post. The keeper got a touch as well but he should have done better.
Disagree with you both.
There is nothing wrong with the ball been throw in into the box. Just don't do it all the time
OH! Nearly a stoke goal on the counter as Palacios put Kenwyne through as he did not hit it cleanly and the keeper tipped around the post.It all started with Arizmendi.
England just lost their second wicket
I have the footer from your link and the cricket.... with my new Mac
Bloody hell!
Never had anything like that happen here. We did have one graduate student who was going through a messy divorce and her husband had taken up with a graduate student in another department. They had a scrap in their driveway that the cops had to respond to but nothing spilled over into the college, thankfully.
You can never tell these days!
I am fortunate that I have never had an incident of this sort. I am shocked and apaaled that this would go on at a college let alone a school. The student should be arrested and expelled. Really horrible.
It is a sign that society has really detiorated.
GOAL! After all that Stoke pressure, Valencia take the lead!
The security guy said there would be someone by my classroom this evening. This guy is a student at the college but hasn't shown up since the incident
STOKE ARE ONE DOWN
Stoke's job still hasn't changed much. They need to score two
I think that was a foul for Stoke at the other end
GOAL !!! 1-0 VALENCIA AS JONAS SCORES WITH A SIMPLE FINISH AND THE POTTERS ARE WELL AND TRULY STOKED.PABLO HERNANDEZ WENT EASILY PAST COLIINS AND WOODY WAS OUT OF POSITION AS JONAS SCORED.
Stoke were still complaining about that call when Hernandez made a monkey out of Collin to get to the by-line and then squared it to Jonas for an easy finish past Sorenson.
1-0 Valencia!
This is at the college
I am not sure what will happen to him
Again, my students were taking a test and he was yelling at the doorway
You certainly do need that security for sure, mate. Can't be too careful these days with all the guns about.
The keeper pushed a volley from Kenwyne over the bar.
True - it's a bit moot and Stoke have started well. They really should have two goals already.
I agree that it was a foul but there's no excuse for not playing on when the other side is attacking you. That was far too easy.
I agree. There should be security. The student should be expelled and his name should be in some sort of database in case he tries to apply to another college.
I agree. It all started when Arizmendi appeared to have been fouled and Stoke players went asleep on the counter. No excuses as Fuller wins a corner that is easily cleared.
Sali Diao is booked for a hefty challenge. The player is rolling around like he's trying to win an Oscar.
The Valencia gaffer must have used the entire bottle of hair gel. BLOODY RIDICULOUS!
Sornesen fumbled a routine cross and Stoke nearly paid for it.
The player went down rather easily as Palacios made minimal contact.
Danny Collins heads oout the free kick for a corner.
A short corner is cleared by Kenwyne.
I haven't clocked the Valencia coach yet - looking forward to seeing that barnet. Of course, I'm hardly one to throw stones in that dept.
These Valencia players are going down far too easily.
If you dove in a swimming pool full of oil then you would look like him!
I will leave at halftime as my next class will start. I will be back midway throught the first half of the United match.
I am off for a few minutes
Be back soon
Pubis is basically conceding the Europa League.
Cheers UWS. Catch you later.
Before I go
England are three down
80 for 3 in the 12th of 20 overs needing 145 to win
6 Nations Rugby to be updated on Saturday!
Not so fanatstic for England though, regarding the Europa League.
I am thinking that there should be about two minutes of stoppage time.
That should about do it.
Huth recovers to concede a corner as he appeared to be beaten.
Collinds heads away the corner.
Into stoppage time and as I stated there will be two minutes of that.
I remember that disaterous Real Madrid debut.
Halftime and Valencia lead 1-0( 2-0 on aggregate).
Half-time then - and now Stoke have 45 minutes to score two. They've had plenty of chances - they just need to take them.
I will be back midway through the first half of the United match.
CHEERS!
We're five minutes into the second half now and Stoke are still chasing the tie.
Palacios burst through there and tried an inelegant toe poke at goal. Well wide in the end.
I am back for a bit
Still the same score in Valencia
England need 24 runs in 2+ overs with four wickets remaining
20 to win off ten balls
19 off 9
19 off 8
England stink.... 19 off 7
TWO SWING AND MISSES!!!
18 needed off the last over
Salif Diao is riding a fine line with the ref now - bit of an elbow there but I agree with MUR that Valencia's players have been going down far too easily.
30 minutes left in the footer. Stoke need a brace
17 off five.. a swing and miss again but ran anyway
15 off four
boring you yet?
14 off three
13 off two... .that's it then!
England can't slog to save their lives!
11 off one... good luck with that one!
England lost by 8 runs
I am off to pick up Shadow from grooming.
I'll be back for United
Stoke are down to 25 minutes now. I can't quite see them getting two goals back now with the kind of gamesmanship and time wasting going on.
Another tedious long throw knocked on by Jones to nowhere.
Get a bit of grooming in yerself, UWS. Cheerio!
Tempers getting frayed in the area as that free kick went in. That doesn't help the cause. Stoke just need to get on wi' it.
Nearly a breakaway goal there for Soldado but Sorenson bailed out Stoke. A little over ten minutes left.
Bit of a dive in there by Shotton and the Valencia fans will not be displeased to see the back of the Potters here.
Now it's Woody chopping down a player - just outside the box.
Stoke don't seem to be able to get out of their own half now.
I am back
It drives me nuts when Pulis didn't put out a really strong side. Why don't they want to win it!!
You spent a whole season trying to make it into Europe and then not care!
I agree - there's no reason not to. The only other thing they've got on is that FA Cup fixture with Liverpool in several week's time. They're safe in the league otherwise.
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
The Stoke away fans should demand their money back.
I was listening to some Brum fan on 606 last weekend and they said they were thrilled to WIN the League Cup despite being relegated. He said that Birmingham are a yo-yo club and would come up soon anyway. The Cup win is the first in his life and he'll never forget it
Valencia won 1-0
NOW FOR UNITED!
That's it - Stoke are out and good riddance to them. Citeh and United still in the EL for the English.
Athletic Bilbao knock out Locomotiv Moskow on away goals after winning 1-0 today. They will play the United Ajax winner..... that's a better trip than to Russia!
The Russian had a chance very late but hit it over the bar
If Chelsea and Arsenal both get knocked out in the second leg.. both Manc sides flying the English flag in Europe!
United's line up for the match
De Gea
Smailing
Jones
Fabio
Rafael
Park
Nani
Young
Cleverley
Berbatov
Hernandez
Subs
Amos
Evra
Evans
Giggs

Scholes
Welbeck
Not minding this line up
What do you think about Pearce's first England squad
Some young guns there
Thoughts?
England squad
Goalkeepers: Scott Carson (Bursaspor), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Robert Green (West Ham United)
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ashley Young (Manchester United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Forwards: Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Fraizer Campbell (Sunderland), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
I am not sure on Green, Walcott and Bent
Other than that it looks okay
The team news:
United - DeGea, Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Fabio, Nani, Park, Cleverly, Young, Hernandez, Drac.
Subs - Amos, Evra, Evans, Giggsy, Carrick, Welbeck, Scholesy.
Ajax - Vermeer, Van Rhijn, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Koppers, DeJong, Anita, Eriksen, Ozbiliz, Lodeiro, Sulejmani.
Subs - Cillessen, Ebecilio, Ooijer, Blind, Serero, Aissati, Klaassen.
I'll take a goal after 19 seconds like Citeh did last night
AGAIN, Porto had the kick off!!
I'm generally really pleased with it, particularly that Terry and Lampard aren't in it. I'd strip out Stevie G. - the last of the "Golden Generation" on that list - and be done wi it.
Park is the captain tonight
Derby and Leicester have kicked off - they're both bottom half sides, so I'm not that bothered by the result.
I don't see Gerrard dropping out. I think he will be the new captain
IF Arsenal get knocked out? Mate, that horse left the gate, returned and left 3 more times and left again. It's over.
As over as it is for Stoke. I imagine they're singing, "Oh when the Stoke, go sloping home, we might get attacked in the shower by an angry naked Tony Pubis and that would be about the only worse thing than watching and supporting Stoke, bar the thought that Stanley Matthews is spinning in his grave knowing that this is what it's come to in the Potteries... la la la la"
Giggs on the bench tonight. His next appearance will be number 900. I think he will be just short of 1000 at the end of it all
"Outside of the European Cup/Champions League, Man Utd have not lost any of their 30 home European games (W18, D12)."
BTW, good luck tonight LOB Mancs.
Nice one Gooner
Away we go at OT
Can't stand the american announcer and the irish color man on GOL TV... yuck
Hiya, Gooner! We're away at OT.
ooh United almost in there in under a minute
I've got two proper Englishmen on my link. You could pull it up - that's what she said - and mute the volume on Gol TV.
I thought Pogba was supposed to play tonight!
Not even on the bench!
That's not the way to make him sign a new contract
The_Greatest666 on Twitter: "No Pogba or Fryers in United first team until they sign a new contract. They wanted to play hardball and now they're suffering."
Is this true?
The timing would be off!
I think you must have the Channel Five commentary
Pogba? Do you really want him hanging about OT? We'll sell you Billy Paynter on the cheap if you're in the market for a complete waster.
I want him to stay... he has looked very good when I have seen him play
Leicester take the lead at Pride Park after 16 minutes
YESS!!!!!!!
ONE NIL!!!!
HERNANDEZ!!
GOAL! Crikey - that were pure class from Chicha finishing off that chance. Wow!
Leicester have just poked up into the top half with that goal. Not a worry for us.
Are you having problems with your feed
There was a goal and then all we get is pictures of the fans... they don't seem to be celebrating so it must have shot before the match
Ajax are a shadow of their former selves these days. A bit sad, to be honest.
No probs on my end.
Still problems... just fans standing in the stands
Who played that through ball - it were gorgeous!
Bloody hell
What's your link?
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/109320/2/watch-manchester-united-vs-ajax.html
Still nothing
Berba was the one that passed it
FINALLY.. back to live pictures
What a horrible dive
Ajax now have to scored three
This plonker says United have a four goal cushion... KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT
Oh - Chicha was away there again but was very unselfish and wanted to play Drac in.
Athletic Bilbao - fancy that one, mate?
There aren't any other English sides still in the EL other than the two Mancs, are there?
Sulejmani threatens the pie salesman in the Stretford with that shot.
I actually have to desert you Robert
I am over to my father-in-law and then the college
TTFN
Sure thing, mate. I know that MUR will be along in a few minutes to shepherd me through this one and the afternoon. Have a good class and stay out of the fray, eh?
United have definitely taken their foot off the gas in the last fifteen minutes and are letting Ajax play their passing game.
Hello BD. As you typed I ma here to join you. Were the towel boys well and truly stoked?
Lovely Jubbly as United lead 1-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate
Rafa goes into the ref's book - first one of the night.
Raffa is booked for a hefty old fshioned challenge.
Towel boys well and truly soaked and have gone off for a good rest and a few San Miguels. Good riddance to Stoke.
That's cheeky - Ajax fans are chanting the name of former Ajax hero Luis Suarez. The Stretford End not liking it at all.
I think we can defeat Bilbao or Lokomotiv Moscow. Fifty degress is perfect footie weather. Not bad.
Definitely cheeky by the toilet bowl cleaner fans! The Pooters players will drown their sorrows in tequilla!
But for some poor passing United would have had another goal.
Lodeiro - another Uruguayan - has the ball in the net but he's offside.
Vermeer catches the United corner.Lodero has a goal called back for Ajax as he was about a foot offside.
I read the comments and see that I didn't miss much from Valencia, Spain. I see that we will definitely play Bilbao.
Koppers went down like a stack of dominoes as Cleverley was called for a foul. The free kick went out as an Ajax player failed to make contact.
GOAL! Ozbiliz knocks home an excellent drive from outside the area after some excellent build up.
1-1 Well deserved.
BUGGER OZBILIZ SCORES WITH A SHOT JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX THAT DEFLECTED OFF OF PHIL JONES AND IT IS NOW 1-1 ON THE NIGHT.
Now we lead only 3-1 on aggegrate. Ozbiliz was born in Turkey, is a dutch citizen, but is an Armenian international
Free kick United as Eirksen was called for a foul.
The free kick was headed away, but United keep possession.
He looks a good player.
The Ajax goal should have never counted as Lodeiro handled just before Ozbiliz scored. Poor officiating!
Young broke free and curled an inviting ball over but no one was on to it.
A great run by Ashley Young, but a useless cross. Nani won the ball and Vermeer punched away his cross.
Coming up on half time, United still have this tie well in hand.
Sounds like a bunch of MLS games for Ajaz after listening to the names of their league opponents.
I hope United don't concede another goal
Koppers is softer than a gooey chocolate!
Halftime and 1-1 at OT . United lead 3-1 on aggregate. SAF looks a tad angry.
I guess GOL TV has exclusive rights to Europa League footie.
I guess GOL TV has exclusive rights to Europa League footie.
The second half is underway. KEEP A CLEAN SHEET UNITED!Davy Klaessen is on for the brittle Koppers.
SHUT IT ANNOUNCER! Quit talking about Ajax scoring two more goals.
Sulemaney is flagged ofsside from a long ball.
Lodeiro fouls Fabio after being tackled by Fabio to end a greaT aJAX POSSESSION. hE WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO BE BOOKED.
I've got some students dropping by so I'll be in and out.
Hvae fun with your students. I'm done wioth students for the day until open house this evening.
Drac is called offside from a great cross by Raffa.
Jones clears for an Ajax corner after Eriksen failed to connect on a cross from Sulemaney. It's been all Ajax the second half.
Lodeiro blasts over from close range as Ajax continue the superb passing . it was a good cross from Eriksen.
Not a penalty as it hits Jones on the shoulder.
