Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Ooops - I've just noticed that the match is being shown on CNBC live. Much better option.

9:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning BD. I am watching on the NBC Sports Channel.I think it's live from SJP.

9:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I was going to put Yanks vs Kiwis too, but it sure looks like the Yanks vs the All Blacks.

9:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, MUR - glad to have you on board.

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The All Blacks look like they're going to attack this match. Good for them

9:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I notice that the Yank women are going with the Where's Waldo look of the men's team.

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheers BD. Great to be on board with you too. I'm not use to getting up this early.

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Me too.It looks like both teams are going with the rugger colors.

9:36 AM

On the Football 365 transfer blog this morning, Luis Suarez reportedly wants to leave the Premiership. Juve are the mostly likely recipient of the Uruguayan.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bloody ads. I've already had two friend requests and Spot the difference on a racy cartoon ad.

9:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It is probably in his best interest. Brendan Rodgers will not put up with his nonsense, especially as he is already missing preseason training.

9:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now an undress me ad. Is that a hint of some sort.

9:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I sent out a message to Blogger yesterday; still waiting for a response.

Tom Nocito's girlfriend Alex Morgan drags one wide.

9:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

While I was getting my morning cuppa I saw Ally Morgan round the keeper and miss an open goal after a horrible mistake in the All Blacks defense.

9:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks BD.I wonder why Alex Morgan was displaying Nocito like behavior!

9:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks BD. They need to respond instead of taking advantage of us.

9:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

As memory serves, UWS was more clinical in those situations. That was more like one of my finishes.

9:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

To their credit, they did respond rather quickly when I queried them back in 2006 on their anti-spam policy. Sorted it out fairly reasonably. I'm hoping that the same will be the case now.

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Noe the U.S. are starting to dominate , but their crossing is poor.

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I sure hope so. I've already had three requests to undress a woman. I hope they get to the bottom of this. Probably like one of my finishes too.

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Another miss by Morgan and Wombach fails to connect at the far post. The U.S. must score soon.

9:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The All Blacks keeper did well to come out of her box to clear as Alex Morgan beat the offside trap

9:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Adrian Healey said that the All Blacks keeper was born and raised in Illinois and plays in the American league for Chicago.

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A superb through ball from Abby Wombach and the cross from Tobin Heath is cut out for a corner.

9:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Womabch heads over the corner from Rapaino

9:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A nice through ball from Carly Lloyd and the keeper did well to come out and gather from the on rushing Wombach

9:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Gator Girl Abby Wambach scores the US opener!

9:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! 1-0 U.S. AS WOMBACH DIVERTS THE CROSS FROM ALEX MORGAN TO GIVE THE U.S. THE LEAD. A SUPERB RUN ANS CROSS DOWN THE LEFT FROM ALEX MORGAN

9:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That was all about Alex Morgan's craft. Great step over and cross that set up Wambach for a tap in.

1-0!

9:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WELL DONE GATORS!

9:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The U.S. should go and add to that lead.

9:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great run by Rampone there but she couldn't find the right cross. US are rampant now.

9:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A great run down the left from Rapaino, but unfortunately the cross was off.

9:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, BD. This would be a great time to increase the lead.

10:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

France defeated Sweden 2-1 at Hampden Park earlier this morning.

10:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sorry Adrian, but I beat you to the punch two minutes ago. WAKEY WAKEY, ADRIAN!

10:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brazil vs Japan is at noon form the Millenium and of course GB vs Canada at 2:30 PM from Coventry

10:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The Queen and Barack Obama - both Magpie fans apparently - are in attendance.

10:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Alex Morgan has a shot deflected for a corner as that was excellent passing from the U.S.

10:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The ref blows for a foul off the corner from Rapaino.

10:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Well spotted, BD. I didn't even see that.I guess Barack is there due to the U.S. playing. Will they be at Coventry to see GB play later today or are they going to Coventry???

10:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Halftime and 1-0 to the U.S.

10:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half-time - off for a shower, mate.

10:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway from SJP.

10:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The U.S. attack from the off and cross straight to the keeper.

10:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hope you have a great shower. I didn't respond because my computer was buggering for some strange reason.

10:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another miss by Alex Morgan as she shoots into the side netting with just the keeper to beat

10:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another run by Alex Morgan , going down looking for a penalty , but it seemed a fair tackle.

10:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The industrious Morgan goes down the left and is tackled for a corner.

10:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A nice give and go off a long U.S. throw and Alex Morgan just runs it out of play.

10:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

London is only 180 miles from Newcastle? Surely it must be further than that!

10:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A horrible cross from Rapaino, but an equally horrible clearance leads to a U.S. corner. Carly Lloyd volleys high and wide from a difficult angle off the corner.

10:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Where are you BD? It is a really long shower!

10:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Marley Moorwood is on for Kristy Yallop as the All Blacks make their first change.

10:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm back for the second half action.

10:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A long free kick from Rapaino breaks to Alex Morgan and she stabs it straight to the keeper.

10:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back , BD!While you were showering my computer was getting cleaned! I showered after hot yoga yesterday evening.

10:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Morning boys

Busy taking care of the dog this morning with the match on

I have the match on NBC sports... I am watching some of the tennis too on Bravo

It is 11-10 in the final set to Del Portro against Roger

10:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have the BBC Olympic coverage on the computer thru First Row... hate tape delay!

10:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - that would have been a great goal. Wambach with a towering flick on to the on-running Morgan. Just overran it.

10:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning, UWS!I agree with you about the tape delay. So will you watch GB this afternoon?

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The US really need another goal... 1-0 is dangerous

10:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I was at a party Sunday evening and a person stated that you would have to get up at 2 AM to watch everything live. Have you done that UWS????

10:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, UWS - I agree with you; this win should have been sealed at this point. No need to toy with the Kiwis - just put them away.

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If I am not too busy I will be around but there is a lot of cleaning going on and remodeling my downstairs bathroom

10:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, UWS. Alex Morgan has missed several good chances as the U.S. should be up by several goals . I was thinking the same when GB played Brazil the other day

10:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wishing you the best. The loo is an important room in one's house!

10:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Headed wide from the corner by Wombach. As UWS stated, the U.S. needs to put these chances away. A lot like GB vs Brazil.

10:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Adrian Healey said that all the quarters are being televised. Next is Brazil vs Japan at noon form the Millenium.

10:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wombach heads straight to the keeper from a difficult angle.

10:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No I haven't gotten up to watch morning stuff but all the big things are mid morning and late afternoon.
There is no reason why NBC couldn't show it live and then show it again on prime time... I hate Olympic coverage! All the stories... SHOW THE SPORT!
Tonight, NBC are showing a 'movie' about the '96 women's gymnastics... WHY?

For the opening ceremony, they deleted a great rendition of Abide With Me to honor the 7/7 terrorist victims.

I am done ranting

10:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sounds like UWS has the "Summer Honey Do" list going.

I've got a few cabinets that need a bit work, mate, if you're in the groove.

10:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Disappointing cross from Wilkinson of the All Blacks, who had beaten the offside trap

10:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It is 12-12 in the first semi of the tennis

Murray and Djokavic up next.. if this one ever ends!

10:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Agreed, mate. I was really marveling at how much sport and how little human interest tosh there was on the BBC coverage. It was just a panel in a studio above the Olympic Park complex providing the links between table tennis and then fencing and then canoeing and then dressage and then beach volleyball. Brilliant stuff.

10:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with you 100%, UWS. You are absolutely correct. I could not agree with you more about the Olympic coverage. It's about ratings rather than quality

10:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Rapino gets the hook.

10:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Heather O'Reilly is on for Megan Rapaino, whom I thought had an excellent match

10:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

No remodeling at our house this summer, but perhaps in the future.

10:59 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Contact there between Wambach and the keeper Binden. Should be a foul but the main concern is for the keeper who took the full weight of GatorGirl's bulk.

11:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Linden , the All Blacks keeper seems to have fouled Alex Morgan just outside the box and both players are down injured. If a foul is called then surely Linden must be off for an early bath for denying a goal scoring opportunity

11:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Should be a foul and a red card for the injured Binden.

11:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Drop ball????!!!!!

11:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The ref says no foul. Lucky All Blacks as they could have been down a player

11:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. WTF! Definitely controversial if the All Blacks tie it up

11:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That looked nasty to the head.. I guess it wasn't a foul.. knee to head

11:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A long range effort from Percival is straight to Hope Solo.

11:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Fifteen minutes left for the Kiwis to pull this one back. I don't quite see it, really.

11:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rose White, who plays for UCLA, is on for Wilkinson.

11:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They would not have pulled it back if Binden had been sent off. I think she knew what she was doing.

11:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

13-13 at Wimpleton

11:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Carly Lloyd is booked for what seems like minimal contact, but Binden stays on the field.
BE CONSISTENT REF!

11:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yellow card for Lloyd and a chance for the Kiwis to pump a ball into the area. Solo gathers easily.

11:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hope Solo easily gathers the free kick.

11:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A marathon match at Wimpleton on Bravo???

11:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Another US subsitution. Morgan is off and Sydney Leroux is on.

11:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sydney LeRoux is on for Alex Morgan

11:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I was just reading the early comments

Thanks Bob for saying I would have buried that chance... still it up your left nostril MUR for saying I would miss!

Tom would like to correct you Bob... Alex Morgan is not his girlfriend but his future wife

11:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ahem, apologies to Thomas.

11:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The U.S. will need to be more clinical if they expect to win a gold medal. This will work for the likes of North Korea and the Kiwis, but not Brazil or GB.

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice cross and nice idea but the control was too far away

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

STRUTH.. I thought that was going to be a pen!!

11:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

LOL , UWS!Tom's future wife missed her fair share, a large part of why it is only 1-0. Surely you can provide some great tips, UWS!

11:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Me too.I thought it may have been. That is why 1-0 is a dangerous score.

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

after your comment... I don't think you think I would help!!!

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

14-14

11:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Well over from Percival from long range.

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Do Team GB play at SJP too?

11:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I meant to help Alex Morgan, LOL!

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I know you did!! You thought I would have missed it

11:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GB plays at Coventry

11:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES... TWO NIL!

11:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Supersub Sydney Leroux finishes it for the US.

2-0!

11:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! 2-0. THAT SHOULD SEALS IT AS SYDNEY LE ROUX SCORES WITH A NICE FINISH

11:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sheer pace and strength there did the job as Leroux latched onto a long ball, rode a challenge and nutmegged Bindon.

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They keep calling it the City of Coventry Stadium

Wasn't it called the Ricoh Arena?

Have you noticed they have called this SJP and not Direct. Com Stadium

11:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Perhaps Sidney should coach Alex, who needs help with her finishing

11:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure, UWS. I prefer SJP even though that is no longer the official name.

11:16 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Maybe the Olympic Committee doesn't allow for corporate branding?

11:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Fed has blown to break points... and now three

11:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Next is Brazil vs Japan from the Millenium. Is anyone up for that match or just the GB match?

11:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I was thinking that too.. If they're not official Olympic sponsors, they can't be said

11:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Four minutes of stoppage time.

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I'll be around but working

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

11:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Amy Rodriguez is on for Loren Cheyney

11:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Wambach nearly had her brace there.

11:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I try not to think about the sponsors as I think of that as an ugly part of the sport.

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just googled it... still Ricoh so it must be an Olympic thing

11:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great tackle by Percival on Wombach

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see that United are going to have Chevy on their shirts next season?
Is there going to be a word or just the Chevy cross?

11:20 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Corner flag time.

11:20 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Do they even sell Chevys in the UK?

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Headed wide by LeRoux off a cross from Carly Lloyd when they should have kept it by the corner flag.

11:21 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure, BD.

11:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Is your sound a little off? Arlo seems to be reacting a second before I see it

11:21 AM

Chipped over the keeper and the goal by Heather O'Reilly.

That's it, lads. I'll be around for the later match.

11:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

There it is Federer wins the match after winning the match 19-17. I guess it's best of three sets in the Olympics.

11:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A brilliant match as Fed was given a run for his money. Now back to the footie? It finished just in time.

11:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW! 186 points to 180 shows what a close match it was!

11:53 AM

Brazil vs Japan has kicked off from the Millenium

12:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Japan attack immediately and force a save from the Brazilian keeper.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cristiani heads wide from a long cross.

12:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Marta wins a free kick just outside the box.

12:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The free kick from Francielle goes through the wall and straight to the keeper.

12:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

More controversy as Japan intentionally drew their last match 0-0 so they would finish runner up and avoid having to travel to Glasgow. Why were eight badmiton teams kicked out of the Olympics , but not this footie team? where's the consistency?

12:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bloody ads? What if a goal is scored during the commercial break?

12:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brendan Rodgers must be cleaning house as Aquilani has been transferred to Fiorentina.

12:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nearly 1-0 to Brazil as Rosanna headed down a long cross and Da Costa shot over, unmarked, from close range.

12:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

All Brazil, but they have not been able to make their dominance pay off.

12:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Japanese keeper superbly tipped over a long range effort from Martina after a nice one two. Bruno heads well wide from the corner and it's off to another commercial

12:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Finish cleaning for a bit and I have on Sky Sports but I will turn it to the footer

12:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back , UWS. Now you can blog from a tidy house.

12:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Japan should have squared it back instead of turning and shooting

Remember the Japs are World Champs

12:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A scramble in the box from Japan;s first serious attack and it's high and wide.

12:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nowhere near done!
Back to the bathroom soon

12:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now just wide after the player slipped and that should have been a goal too.

12:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW! A busy day, UWS!
Great point about Japan. They beat the U.S. in the final. Will those two teams meet in the Olympic final?

12:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Japan head just over from the free kick as the keeper was clueless. The free kick was for a hand ball from none other than the brilliant Marta

12:26 PM

12:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! 1-0 JAPAN AS THEY HAD COME BACK INTO THE MATCH. THE BRAZIL DEFENSE WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THE GOAL WAS CORED WITH A NICE TIDY FINISH IN THE CORNER WITH JUST THE KEEPER TO BEAT

12:27 PM

They started dominating when you arrived, but it was all Brazil before that.I saw this goal coming since you arrived

12:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Can Team GB make the semis in the men's and women's?

The commentators are saying the fans don't know what to sing at GB matches... they're used to yelling Engurlund...

One guy said they were working on singing to the tune 'COME ON EILEEN"... COME ON GB

12:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That sounds like a winner to me.

12:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brits vs the Yanks would be an excellent semi on Monday

12:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Marta is supposedly the best women's layer on the planet, but this is her second consecutive poor match

12:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think the Brits would play Brazil in the semis for the men so there is no chance of GB getting gold in the mens

I'd like to see that Final in the women's

I don't even know the draw. Who do GB get in the women's semi?

If they win they would play the Yanks on Monday. Not sure about the men's bracket.

JP just said that the winner of this match play France in the semi. That means US met GB

GB shouldn't have beaten the Brazilians in the group stages

I thought GB deserved their win over a thuggish Brazil side and did a superb job marking their two best players out of the game.
