When Saturday Comes... it's fun!
Another Saturday is upon us and we have a triple header ahead of us on the box.
ESPN starts with a battle of the new boys as co-league leaders Swansea host West Ham. FSC follows that with RVP home debut as United take on the other co-league leaders. The last match of the day will be a good one as Newcastle visit the Bridge. I won't be around for the first match as I am at practice. I will be here with bells on for late matches
Join me.. or without me for the first match

Morning, Dave. Sorry to miss you for this match. See you after your practice.
The Swans and Hammers both had wins on the first day of the season. Something's got to give.
Here are the line-ups:
West Ham United: Jaaskelainen, Reid, Tomkins, Collins, McCartney, Jarvis, Nolan, Noble, Diame, Demel, Cole.
Subs: Henderson, Maynard, Maiga, Vaz Te, Taylor, O'Brien, Diarra.
Swansea City: Vorm, Rangel, Chico, Williams, Taylor, Britton, de Guzman, Michu, Dyer, Routledge, Graham.
Subs: Tremmel, Tate, Moore, Dobbie, Agustien, Gower, Davies.
Referee - Martin Atkinson
West Ham will be showing off their new signing from Wolves Matt Jarvis, who gave Leeds fits last weekend.
Good morning BD and UWS. I will be around till halftime because I have to take Jacquelyn to the clinic for her school vaccinations.
Morning, MUR - hope you had a good week. Ready for the school year?
Good morning. I'm at work today, will be following you folks here and the bbc text.
We're off from the Liberty Stadium
And we're away at Swansea.
Morning, Someone. Sorry to hear that you're having to work on the weekend.
Jarvis is straight into the action there jinking back on his right and swinging a dangerous cross in.
Good morning Someone. Are you getting ready for the new semester? I think I am as ready as I will be ,BD.I am starting the year without a working printer and phone. Otherwise, good to go. How about yourself?
Semester started on Wednesday. First semester at OSU in many years.
Got back from a break spent on Long Island on Tuesday.
We're off at Caledonian Stadium.
BLOODY HELL! Matty Jarvis must be the most overrated player in the EPL and his poor form last season was largely responsible for Wolves being relegated.
I'm just about ready to go, mate. I'll be over in the office this afternoon, after the footer. I'm trying to finish up a book proposal before the action gets too heavy.
And just like that Wanyama makes it 1-0 Celtic!
Another trip to the Scottish Highlands for Celtic.Hope you had fun on Long Island.Wishing you a good semester. Sorry you have to work today.
Bristol City and Cardiff start at the top of the hour.
WOW! that is a quick start for Celtic after a great result in Sweden on Wednesday
Celtic look as if they want to make a mockery of a weak SPL this season.
I saw Kris Commons score a corker in that match
A competitive start here at the Liberty but very few real chances in the opening ten minutes.
Poor corner by Swansea is easily cleared.
Nathan Dyer looks dangerous as usual.
Agreed, BD. Will Swansea find more joy against another London club.
Nathan Dyer , Scott Sinclair , and Danny Graham almost made the England squad last season.
Working so I can save my time off. Might be headed to Scotland in December.
Really hoping for some positive results for Celtic in the Champions League. Big match next week.
That's sounds like a good holiday, Someone, albeit a wee bit chilly.
I see that Leeds have trip to Peterborough today. That is usually a competitive fixture.
And dark BD :)
First time I was there was over Christmas. I was not expecting a 9:30AM sunrise and 3PM sunset, that's if the sun came out at all!
We do - I'm surprised that it isn't an early fixture. The police usually recommend that. I'm hoping for three points - I don't fancy Posh this season.
Agreed. . Great strategy, Someone.Celtic look set to be Scotland's sole representatives in the Group stages of any European competition
I remember those dark afternoons well. It would be pitch black by the time our after school practices were done at 3:30.
But the summers were glorious in Britain, usually staying bright until around 10:30 pm.
I remember that from my time in England. I think sunrise was at 8 Am and sunset at 4 PM in England.
Agreed, BD. A great chance for three points and I remember those long summer days, if the sun came out
The Severn River Derby is underway in the Championship.
We were there again last year at this time, loved the late sunsets, oh yes.
So, we may be headed back in December, or wait until April. Depends.
Swansea play more like West Ham than west Ham.Michael Laudrup has kept the same tactics that Brendan Rodgers did.
Excellent command of geography, MUR. You'd be handy on our trivia team.
GOAL! Looks like an own goal against Jussi as the Swans go into the lead.
GOAL !!! 1-0 SWANSEA . I THINK IT'S A JUSSI OG AS HE WAS BEATEN AT THE NEAR POST BY RANGEL.HORRIBLE KEEPING.
Cheers, BD.I would love to be on that team.
That's about the fifth or sixth big goalkeeping howler of the season. Federici from Reading has committed two already.
A great start for Michael Laudrup as the Hammers have a free kick in a great position.
A matter of time. Swans were on their front foot.
At it stands, Swansea are in first place.
The Hammers have a chance for an immediate response now from a free kick....
Noble hits it and the keeper did well.
No they're not. I retract my last post.
Good Morning Bob , MUR and Someone .
How is everybody . Will be in and out
as I am at work as well . Though I
only have 3 hours to go .
Yes - slightly better GD than Chelski.
Better keeping from Michael Worm as he punches away under extreme pressure off the free kick and the ref calls a foul.
Morning, Chelskilad. Great to have you on board. Everything's good here in WNY.
Good morning Chelskilad. Hope all is well. That does put Swansea top of the table, but Chelsea is the highest placed English club.
Same here. All is well in Texas.
I'm pulling double duty watching some of the early morning political chat shows. The RNC starts in Tampa on Monday - against my better judgment, I always get excited about the party conventions. Anyone else up for blogging the conventions?
Naughty by Michu on Thompkins.
I will be at work on Monday. I might be able to blog in the evening providing that there is not a hurricane in Tampa at the time.
18 year old Tony Watt puts Celtic up 2-0.
They're going to win the league by 30. Sad, but true.
The Hammers free kick is easily cleared. Now Nolan fouls Michu and has something to say.It must have been from the earlier incident and Martin Atkinson gives him a lecture.
Agreed, Someone. That sounds about right. The same can be said about Rangers in the Scottish Third.
GOAL! Another defensive nightmare for the Hammers. Michu with his third!
GOAL!! 2-0 SWANS AS MICHU ADDS INSULT TO INJURY BY SCORING FOR SWANSEA. AS HE FINISHED EASILY AFTER HORRIBLE HAMMERS DEFENDING.
James Collins takes a page out of my book and plays a shocker of a backpass that Michu anticipated well.
Michu goes into top spot in the scoring charts.
I don't think anyone picked Michu for the golden boot.
"The West Ham defense should register as a charity." Nice line from Ian Darke.
I reckon that's a fair assumption, MUR.
Jarvis beat Rangel down the left as he fouls Jarvis and is booked as a result.Swansea easily clear the free kick and break through Ashley Williams.
Will this be another 5-niller for the Swans?
West Ham Rising - get your boots on; your boys need you!
Agreed. It was really Danny Collins as a goal wasn't on the cards prior to his back pass.
COME ON JONNO. BD YOU ARE NEEDED IN THE CENTER OF DEFENSE. COME ON FOR COLLINS!
Pitch inspection at Sunderland .
Heavy rain .
Oh - desperate defending by the Swans as the Hammers threatened from the set piece.
Superb save by Worm from Jarvis and cleared away by Ashley Williams.
Macca is spot on that the Hammers under Fat Sam only have one attacking threat - the age old set piece routine. A bit sad for a side that's got a tradition of great footballing sides.
Tipped over by Jussi from Neil Taylor after a tasty pass from Routledge
Oh - the Swans were in again there with Taylor one on one with Jask.
I agree with Macca about the Hammers while season it is an absolute pleasure watching the Swans
Carlton Cole is booked for a challenge on Chicho Flores. Harsh, IMHO.
Based on this performance , I was a right Wally for picking the Swans for relegation.
Can you imagine picking Clint Dempsey for Fulham after he's stated that he's refusing to play for the club? I'm disappointed with Clint's behavior. Didn't know that he had that diva bone in him.
Just had a double take . Trotters Independent Traders just drove past the shop window . Looked great . Couple of suitcases on the roof .
I didn't pick either of these sides for relegation but I reckon Swansea are a decent shout. They started like a house on fire last season and struggled at the back end. I could see that again.
I agree, BD. They did well without him.
BD are you going to send us a Doc of all the predictions we made again?
Who are Trotters Independent Traders, Chelskilad?
It seems like they should do enough to stay up under Michael Laudrup. I wonder if I should have picked the Canaries or Hammers
Yes - I'd meant to do that with the update last weekend, but I'll make sure to do it after this round of matches.
I was thinking the same, Chelskilad. I am not familiar with them.
Carlton Cole wins a Hammers corner.
Bristol C. and Cardiff are still at 0-0 after half an hour. Both are in the top ten on the strength of that.
More heroics from Michael Worm in the Swansea goal.
Nolan wins a corner after that corner from Jarvis created panic in the Swans defense. Three minutes of stoppage time..Thompkins and Cole creating problems in the Swans defense as first, Worm blocks then Leon Britton heads off the line.
Oh - Cole has one cleared off the line again. The Hammers do look dangerous from set pieces.
That has been their only threat.
Don't you know Only Fools and Horses
Halftime at Inverness, with Celtic clinging to a 2-0 lead.
Halftime and Swansea lead 2-0.
Ah - sorry. I know that Only Fools is one of UWS' favorites but I believe that it started the year that I went back to the States for college - 1982. UWS stayed in Britain one more year so he got hooked on it. The connection to David Jason is thus "Open All Hours."
Yup . One of the best programs ever to come out of the BBC .
Off to the clinic for Jacquelyn's vaccinations. will be back later in the morning.
Sunderland/Reading is cancelled. Heavy rains.
Sunderland / Reading called off .
Heavy rain .
Three minutes into the second half and Mulgrew makes it 3-0 Celtic.
Ouch - Celtic are really putting the hammer down.
The Hammers really need a quality center forward. Carlton Cole is substandard at this level.
Two quick goals has Bristol City 2-0 up at half-time over Cardiff at Ashton Gate.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Oh - Danny Graham should have made it three!
James Collins again at fault.
The woeful Carlton Cole goes off. Maiga on now.
GOAL! Danny Graham does score this time after a good team move.
3-0 Swans!
Crikey - Swansea are making the Swansea look easy!
Eight goals in their first two matches, the Swans are flying.
They are indeed, Someone. It's true that they've had a relatively easy schedule to start with.
Watt with his second and it's 4-0 celtic!
Fat Sam will not be happy with this defensive performance.
Wow - news reported by Ian Darke that Wayne Rooney has been dropped for the match against Fulham today. RVP will start.
Anything the Swans can do, the Hoops can do one better, eh?
Wonder how long that will sit well with Rooney?
And though out all this, Berbatov is now what? Fifth on the depth chart?
I'd like to think West Ham are more of a challenge than ICT.
I'm not surprised - despite his scoring record last season, he was never in good form. And he had a shocker last week against the Toffees. Fergie has always excelled at man management - all part of the masterplan.
This has become a bit of a training exercise for Swansea.
6,100 in Inverness to witness the rout of the local XI.
Cardiff have got one back through Tommy Smith. 2-1 at Ashton Gate.
Michael Laudrup is looking like a managerial genius right about now.
Inverness spoil the clean sheet and score one with eight minutes left.
You can never trust the Highlanders not to spoil a nice day out.
And they've added another and nearly a third. Yikes! Lennon's not going to like this.
Fat Sam is literally trying to disappear into his seat. Not a good day out for the Hammers. This one was over as a competitive encounter after an hour.
The referee is patient as Kevin Nolan lashes out at Michu. Only a minute to play.
Nice - Bristol City have added a third against Cardiff and will sit, albeit temporarily, on top of the Championship.
Nearly 4-0 as Graham and then Moore had chances blocked out.
The referee goes for mercy and blows up a bit early. 3-0 Swansea at the end who top the league with a perfect record and two clean sheets. Wow!
MUR favorite Victor Moses has made the switch from Wigan to Chelski this week.
Go Swans!
Fulltime at Caledonian Stadium. Celtic 4, Inverness Caley Thistle 2
New signing Adam Johnson will not be able to make his debut for Sunderland today as it's been washed out by rain.
I'm on to Soccer Saturday now ahead of the 10am kick-offs.
A blast of the "MOT" before the start of the clash at Peterboro this afternoon.
Come on, you Whites!
Hi Guys . Got to leave for now .
Sorry I haven't been that active
but have been a bit busy .
Catch up later or tomorrow .
Fulham scores as fans take their seats. Wow! Damien Duff.
Steven Pienaar puts Everton up on Aston Villa!!!!!
Some new guy has tied it up for Man. U.
Norwich have gone up 1-0 on a goal by Simeon Jackson. QPR are hopeless.
I'm back after having to deal with a neighbor who's having a bit of a crisis and I've missed two goals. Fulham started where they finished last week with an early goal by Damien Duff and that was followed quickly by RVP's debut goal. Nice finish!
QPR have equalized on a penalty by Zamora.
Blackpool are maintaining their perfect record with a 1-0 lead over Ipswich.
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Becchio puts us 0-1 up at Peterboro.
His third of the season.
Pienaar has put the Toffees 0-1 up against a Villa side that looks odds on for relegation.
In an evil showdown, Sheffield Wednesday have gone 1-0 up over Millwall.
I'm liking the look of the Championship table now with my Leeds boys in 4th.
It's been all United since RVP's equalizer.
Bob . check comment 10:00
Oh - Valencia has a jinky run and then launches one just over the bar.
Sorry I missed your earlier comment, Chelskilad. Sounds as if you've got a busy afternoon at the shop. Good luck with it, mate.
"Leeds are control of the game" according to the SS reporter. Lovely jubbly.
Hair Bear has added a second goal for the Toffees. "A ricket" by Shay Given - probably the sixth or seventh bad keeping mistake this season.
0-2 Everton.
Will Paul Lambert win the sack race this season?
I'm finally home!
How's it gone?
I know we fell behind and then RVP opens up his and United's account
OT sounds quite
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KAGAWA WITH HIS FIRST!!
Hair Bear is on fire. Fellaini nets his second as Everton extend their lead!!!
GOAL! Kagawa with his debut goal!
2-1!
He was onside
The goal hasn't been announced on SS yet
From the corner, it was cleared out but Cleverly struck it on goal, the keeper has bobbled it and the new Japanese signing tapped in.
Dodgy on the offside decision but it's a goal.
Leeds are leading at Pboro?
3-1 now between Brighton and Barnsley - bit of a thriller going on there.
oooh, off the post and then in the net but offside
Usain Bolt in the stands
GOAL! United are running riot now. Rafael tapping in after a great run and shot onto the post.
No - it's been ruled offside. Still 2-1.
Brilliant run by Kagawa there and side foot onto the post. The referee did get it right there as Rafa was clearly offside.
BLoody hell.. my ss link JUST announced United's second
Anyone get another link?
Rovers take the lead against Leicester
Hiya, UWS - great to have you back. It's been a cracking match. United have been camped out in Fulham's half ever since RVP's great equalizer. Well on top now.
This is the one I'm on, mate:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/137131/1/watch-gillette-soccer-saturday.html
GOAL! Now it is 3-1 and Rafael stayed onside this time.
YES!!!!!!!!
RAFAEL HITS THE NET AGAIN... IT COUNTS THIS TIME!
Ashley Young chipped the ball up lovely and Rafa only had to keep it down. How are Fulham allowing Rafa to play center forward!!!?
Loads of goals flying in in the Championship. Huddersfiled are 1-0 up over Burnley, Millwall have equalized and Wolves are 1-0 up over Derby.
BLOODY HELL... HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN FOR FULHAM
GREAT SAVE BUT OFF THE BAR TWICE
PHEW!
I refreshed my link and it is on time
Boro take the lead against Palace
Oh - Petric might have scored right away. This is an excellent match. DeGea did well.
Bugger.. big club are losing to Millwall
This is a good starting line up but what a bench United have
Millwall have taken the lead now. 1-2 now.
Boro have taken the lead against Palace.
Not a big club.
Everton aret three up... could Villa be in trouble? Is Everton that good?
They usually start slow.. not this year
Roon and Chicha are having a bit of a sulk on the bench. Btw, "the bench" is a bit of a misnomer. It should be called "the fancy, comfy chairs" now.
Blackpool two up against Ipswich
Everton are 0-3 and Someone must be doing a jig today.
Will Paul Lambert survive the weekend?
Just noticed Sunderland Reading is off for waterlogged pitch!
The Tangerines are flying. I'm not that upset that we lost 2-1 in midweek. But we need three points today.
Oh heck yes Jelavic!
I think Villa are poor and Everton are much improved.
Yeah - Adam Johnson was set to make his debut. The weather looks bad across the island. It's raining at OT and really pelting down at Shite Fart apparently.
Half time at Old Trafford
Pleased... I wasn't after the text saying United were losing!
Fergie looks a bit happier going into the dressing room now.
Who texted you? Wasn't me - I'm hopeless at texting.
Kathy did
Just saw RVP's goal... nice finish
United need to go for the throat in the second half
I see Pompey are losing at Carlisle
We're back on at OT for the second half.
Away we go for the second half
I just noticed that Welbeck isn't on either!
Pompey two down!
Shame - Carlisle are 2-0 up to Pompey now. Sad times down on the south coast.
Yeah - you've got plenty of firepower on the bench today. Not good for the England side to have both Roon and Welbeck picking out splinters.
