The LOB Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Game!
I'm settling in for the Vice Presidential Debate in my time honored style - with MSNBC on the box and a drink at my side. My plan to pre-game the event in order to be able to stomach the whole charade, a couple of cocktails in by kick-off time. If you'd like to join me, here are the rules:
Take a sip of your favorite libation, whenever someone mentions:
* Scranton, Pennsylvania
* The 47%
* Privatizing Social Security
* Killing Osama bin Laden
* The middle class tax cuts
* General Motors still being alive
* Firing Big Bird
* Unemployment being above/below 8&
* Iran's nuclear program
* Planned Parenthood/birth control/abortion
Take a full gulp whenever:
* Ryan lies out of his ass
* Biden pokes his finger toward him
* Either candidate ignores moderator Martha Raddatz
Chug the rest of your drink if:
* Ryan reminds Biden of plagiarizing Neil Kinnock
* Biden reminds Ryan of his secret love for Ayn Rand
* Anyone mentions education
Cheers!

Right, then - I'm here in Blue Devil HQ with Rachel Maddow and co. blasting in the ear hole. I started earlier with a bourbon and ginger to pre-game the event. I've now poured meself a fresh Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale. Tasty. Ten minutes to go now...
The moderator tonight, Martha Raddatz, is known primarily as a foreign correspondent for ABC News, so I'm hoping that she'll ask some probing questions about foreign policy.
One weird detail tonight. Apparently the Ryan camp has negotiated to have Raddatz refer to the Congressman as "Mr. Ryan" rather than "Congressman Ryan." I wonder if someone is concerned about the current standing of the Republican led Congress.
As usual, the moderator has sworn the audience to silence during the debate - shame, I love the craic of a good debate audience.
Excellent - Raddatz starts with Libya. Should be interesting.
I usually hate these promises from politicians to "get to the bottom of things," but in the case of Obama/Biden, their record is fairly strong.
Wondering if Ryan will go conspiratorial at this point with the species stories about Obama/Biden having gotten intelligence before the Benghazi attacks.
Biden off to a decent start.
Looks like we have a debate . . .
Biden is being careful not to look down too much although he's taking some copious notes.
Evening, WHR - great to have a political pro like you on board.
Good follow-up from Raddatz about Romney's initial response about the Obama admin's "weakness."
Prediction: this will get nasty quick.
Joe's smirking a bit here. But nice jab about "a bunch of malarkey."
Getting nasty now - Luv it!
No Sierra Nevada to help me along, but I'll hang in as long as I can!
Drink - Joe mentions the Iranian nuke program.
Whatcha drinking then, mate?
Hope your Pops, enjoyed his day. Is he up in Fredonia, or down in Alexandria?
I'm in a hotel in North Carolina for work. Nothing on tap.
You can already tell that Joe's not taking any shite tonight. Good on 'im.
He's in Alex - just went out with the boys to a Mexican feed up. Check my bros FB feed - great pic of Dad in a sombrero.
Uh oh - Raddatz is moving on to Iran. The Sierra Nevada's gonna go quick here.
I wouldn't want to move to Iran.
Ryan's dancing around the issue of military strikes on Iran now. Not answering the question directly. I hope Raddatz nails him on it.
Joe's chuckling a bit too much here.
I'm liking this debate a lot more already with the reasonable give and take.
Great response from Joe - smacking Ryan down big time. Ryan is coming off as a little kid here. Man v. boy.
Raddatz really needs to nail Ryan on the issue of whether he and Mitt want to put boots on the ground.
The facility that Joe has with the policy issues is breathtaking, really impressive.
Joe gets a good jab in about Romney "changing his mind."
On to the economy...
On to jobs. Should be good fodder on both sides.
Great - Biden's right on point about Romney wanting Detroit to go bankrupt.
Man vs. boy. You are a bad man BDB because we've heard at least twice about Osams and hit a couple more of the sipping points. I'm on the Woodford reserve and I think I'm going to regret it.
47 perecent . . . drink
47%. glug!
Another good jab about Romney's tax payments - ouch! That hurt!
Nice Grover take down there!
Excellent - jab at Grover Norquist. Joe's in a feisty mood tonight. Luvin' it!
The Sierra Nevada's just about dry now - off to the fridge.
Scanton . . . drink!
Bidens good on the economy too. Damn, Scranton twice.
Uh oh - I heard Scranton from the kitchen - bottoms up on the Sierra Nevada.
If you missed the Scranton reference, you owe me one.
Beer #2 - Southern Tier Porter. Cheers!
What the hell is Ryan talking about now - some family who suffered a car crash?!
Decent jab by Ryan about Biden's gaffe habit - gets a decent laugh from the audience.
47% again - drink!
Good personal touch here from Joe - and then a nice pivot back to Detroit.
Joe goes personal with Ryan's voting record.
Excellent point by Joe about it not being about charity but about policy.
And then an excellent punch about Ryan voting for the wars etc. Ryan's on the ropes here.
Ouch again - on Ryan's record of asking for stimulus.
TKO on Ryan's voting record and hypocrisy. He's on the mat!
On to entitlements . . .surely a reference to 47 percent in here somewhere.
Too bad. Radirz steps in with a metaphorical 8 count when Joe was bashing Ryan like a pinata
Yes. That's what I want to do when I retire: research my best option for heatlh insurance with a effing govt issued voucher.
Nice common touch from Joe about trusting your instincts.
Biden's killing Ryan on Medicare and SS now.
Taking a couple of gulps of the Southern Tier for all of the moderator interruptions here.
Joe's so ahead on points he can afford to back off a little bit so that we don't start feeling sympathy for this little db.
Ryan's lying so fast here it's hard for Biden to keep up with him.
Good follow-up from Raddatz there on privatization.
On to taxes and Joe's off to the raises. How much fecking espresso did they pour down Joe's throat before he went on tonight? Wow!
Holler! Joe suggesting that the patriotic rich aren't asking for reliwd
relief. Bob you gotta tighten up the rules or I'm going to end up on the floor.
Good evening BD and Washington DCers. I have been home for five minutes and Biden is definitely on top.
Ryan full of crap on the The Pres killing off small businesses with overtaxing
Good - Raddatz asks a great follow-up question about the lack of specifics on the Romney-Ryan side. He's looking really poor here.
Run Dave. This game is going to make you call in for a sub tomorrow
Ryan definitely does not have a plan. Great by the moderator to ask for specifics. If Ryan want s bipartisanship then look at his own party in Congress
Welcome, MUR. I'm just about finished with my porter and may go for a drop of port. That should get me through the rest of this one, unless someone brings up Ayn Rand or Neil Kinnock. Then I'm really in trouble.
I will definitely need to spend all the money I made off the tutoring job this evening. Ryan is definitely going to make me call in sick.
A few drinks for me just in the last five minutes alone.Great by Biden to use his experience and show specifics when working with both parties. Love the remark that Romney was such a poor governor that he's not contesting Mass.
Ryan is on the ropes again - he's been bloodied so many times now it's nearly time to throw in the towel.
I'm getting confused by the math . . . I'm gonna have a sip of water.
Ryan is really making a fool of himself and surely is ruining the victory by Romney last week. Ryan seems like a man without a plan.
And I've only been here ten minutes. Imagine what I would have witnessed had I been here the entire debate,
The GOP wants the least military people since WWI???
Enjoying a tasty, rich glass of ruby port now. Not feeling any pain.
The gains were by this administration, not the GOP.
Ninety bottles to go, BD!
Drink - Bin Laden killed!
Biden sounds like the fatherly figure and Ryan the spoiled, rebellious teen
Oasama. Ouch
You nailed it, MUR - that's been the dynamic all night - man v. boy.
That's one for Biden!
Still keeping up there, Gooner? LOL!
So that Romney victory was all for nought. Pissed away like cheap American beer.
What a difference a week - and a decent moderator - makes. This is a massacre!
Cream crackered in DelRay
Martha's doing the job that Jim should have done for sure, but Joe's juiced tonight. I knew this was going to be must see TV when Joe Biden starts to think he's gotta win back the advantage that Obama lost last week.
I missed the debate last week.I was trying to get grades in time for the progress report deadline.Should this put Obama ahead again?
I think he's done that , Gooner.
Just had a Jimmy Riddle there - desperately needed. Back to my glass of port.
"AFGHANS TO DO THE JOB!" Ouch!
BLOODY HELL! Biden is finding loopholes in every Ryan statement.Ryan is confused and bamboozled.
That confused me too. What did he mean by that?
Maybe we could send in the Afghan Whigs to do the job . . . I see they are touring again.
Good thing I didn't have the phrase "loose talk" on the list tonight. I'd have cleaned out the liquor cabinet by now.
Steve Dorff, thank you for your service
Biden stammering a bit here . . . may be past his bedtime.
I love the use of loose talk. Joe's making Ryan and by extension Mitt look naive.
I'm off to bed lads. Big day of work tomorrow. Drink Vitamin Water before going night-night; greater pre-emptive strike on hangover.
Either them or those Eyeless in Gaza geezers. Surely they're still around.
Evening, WHR - nice sharing this massacre with you.
I agree BD and WHR. Biden seems to have lost some of his momentum. However, Ryan looks way out of his depth. I don't even see another Presidential campaign for him after this.
Joe just has to coast through the last fifteen minutes - he's already done the damage. And Raddatz is asking enough good probing follow-ups that Ryan is digging his own grave.
I agree, BD. Great to see WHR and Gooner share this massacre. To the victor goes the spoils.
I think those tossers with that Goo record should be sent strait to the front. That band with the singer that collabed with Santana too.
Raddatz forgot a rope with a nice slip knot.
Ryan with his anti abortion, pro life stance, not stating how his faith influenced him.
Bill Maher has just tweeted: "9-1-1? There's an old man beating up on a child on my tv." LOL!
Bit of a soft ball to end the evening on abortion.
BOOM BOOM BD. Funny, but rue. Is that child abuse?
A great comeback by Biden. He did well to sate that Ryan is imposing his beliefs on others of different beliefs/faith That must be it for Ryan.
This one is fading out quickly. The fireworks were all in the first 45 minutes or so.
I'm hoping for a strong finish from Joe.
Ryan is a fool to think Romney can overturn Roe vs wade.As Biden stated, only the Supreme Court can do that.
Is second both statements, BD. It's fading out because as you sated , Joe only needs to coast home, but a strong finish would be great
gratuitous use of 47%. uncle. I'm dry and staying there.
Fair enough, Gooner. I've still got a drop or two of port left in the glass, just in case Big Bird comes up.
Now Ryan says there won't be cuts on the military after stating that it would be at it's lowest enrollment since WW I.
Cut the deficit in half? None of the other Republican Presidents have done that.
Again, no specifics from Ryan.He complains about no plan from this administration and constant negative campaigning wand that is all Ryan is doing at this time.
Ha - Ryan begins to say that the one thing he can give is "honesty." Then he thinks better of it and bails on the answer.
Nothing , but put downs from Ryan. He says this administration offers no solutions, but he is not stating any.
I noticed that too, BD.
Closing statements now....
Ouch - Scranton - one last gulp of port and I'm done.
Joe's closing statement should empty all glasses.
No fireworks from Joe on the closing. Now for Ryan.
Another sip as poverty was mentioned. Is that a subtle hint about the 47%?
I thought Ryan's closing statement was really lame.
Just think, last year we kept hearing about how this Ryan guy is an intellectual heavyweight for the GOP. He's a child.
Biden smoked Ryan from start to finish. Goodnight you lushes
Well, well, well. That was a clear win for Obama/Biden tonight. Should stanch the bleeding left over from last week's Obama debacle.
That's it. A decisive victory for Biden. How will that affect the race for the White House?
Good night Gooner. Perfectly stated.
This supposed expert said Ryan did well no the national stage. Was he watching the same debate we were?
It was a pleasure being part of this debate. Good night.
Night, night, Gooner - I know you'll sleep well. As will I, with sweet dreams of an 18-0 win for the England boys tomorrow.
