The LOB Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Game!

I'm settling in for the Vice Presidential Debate in my time honored style - with MSNBC on the box and a drink at my side. My plan to pre-game the event in order to be able to stomach the whole charade, a couple of cocktails in by kick-off time. If you'd like to join me, here are the rules:

Take a sip of your favorite libation, whenever someone mentions:

* Scranton, Pennsylvania
* The 47%
* Privatizing Social Security
* Killing Osama bin Laden
* The middle class tax cuts
* General Motors still being alive
* Firing Big Bird
* Unemployment being above/below 8&
* Iran's nuclear program
* Planned Parenthood/birth control/abortion

Take a full gulp whenever:

* Ryan lies out of his ass
* Biden pokes his finger toward him
* Either candidate ignores moderator Martha Raddatz

Chug the rest of your drink if:

* Ryan reminds Biden of plagiarizing Neil Kinnock
* Biden reminds Ryan of his secret love for Ayn Rand
* Anyone mentions education

Cheers!

Right, then - I'm here in Blue Devil HQ with Rachel Maddow and co. blasting in the ear hole. I started earlier with a bourbon and ginger to pre-game the event. I've now poured meself a fresh Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale. Tasty. Ten minutes to go now...

The moderator tonight, Martha Raddatz, is known primarily as a foreign correspondent for ABC News, so I'm hoping that she'll ask some probing questions about foreign policy.

8:54 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

One weird detail tonight. Apparently the Ryan camp has negotiated to have Raddatz refer to the Congressman as "Mr. Ryan" rather than "Congressman Ryan." I wonder if someone is concerned about the current standing of the Republican led Congress.

As usual, the moderator has sworn the audience to silence during the debate - shame, I love the craic of a good debate audience.

Excellent - Raddatz starts with Libya. Should be interesting.

I usually hate these promises from politicians to "get to the bottom of things," but in the case of Obama/Biden, their record is fairly strong.

9:04 PM

Wondering if Ryan will go conspiratorial at this point with the species stories about Obama/Biden having gotten intelligence before the Benghazi attacks.

Uh oh - Raddatz is moving on to Iran. The Sierra Nevada's gonna go quick here.

9:13 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

I wouldn't want to move to Iran.

9:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ryan's dancing around the issue of military strikes on Iran now. Not answering the question directly. I hope Raddatz nails him on it.

9:14 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Joe's chuckling a bit too much here.

9:15 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm liking this debate a lot more already with the reasonable give and take.

9:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Great response from Joe - smacking Ryan down big time. Ryan is coming off as a little kid here. Man v. boy.

9:17 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Raddatz really needs to nail Ryan on the issue of whether he and Mitt want to put boots on the ground.

9:17 PM

The facility that Joe has with the policy issues is breathtaking, really impressive.

9:19 PM

Excellent point by Joe about it not being about charity but about policy.

And then an excellent punch about Ryan voting for the wars etc. Ryan's on the ropes here.

9:31 PM

I agree BD and WHR. Biden seems to have lost some of his momentum. However, Ryan looks way out of his depth. I don't even see another Presidential campaign for him after this.

10:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Joe just has to coast through the last fifteen minutes - he's already done the damage. And Raddatz is asking enough good probing follow-ups that Ryan is digging his own grave.

10:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, BD. Great to see WHR and Gooner share this massacre. To the victor goes the spoils.

This one is fading out quickly. The fireworks were all in the first 45 minutes or so.

10:22 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm hoping for a strong finish from Joe.

10:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ryan is a fool to think Romney can overturn Roe vs wade.As Biden stated, only the Supreme Court can do that.

10:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Is second both statements, BD. It's fading out because as you sated , Joe only needs to coast home, but a strong finish would be great

10:23 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

gratuitous use of 47%. uncle. I'm dry and staying there.

10:23 PM

Fair enough, Gooner. I've still got a drop or two of port left in the glass, just in case Big Bird comes up.

10:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Ryan says there won't be cuts on the military after stating that it would be at it's lowest enrollment since WW I.

10:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cut the deficit in half? None of the other Republican Presidents have done that.

10:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Again, no specifics from Ryan.He complains about no plan from this administration and constant negative campaigning wand that is all Ryan is doing at this time.

10:27 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ha - Ryan begins to say that the one thing he can give is "honesty." Then he thinks better of it and bails on the answer.

10:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nothing , but put downs from Ryan. He says this administration offers no solutions, but he is not stating any.
