Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

With the League on this week, I had a bit of a brainwave about a new trivia question. Here it is:

"How many different names has the English League Cup gone by over the years? Name as many of them as you can."

Good luck, chaps!

I'll take a stab. Some of the names may be names for other competitions , but here goes:

League Cup, Milk Cup, Littlewoods Cup, Carling Cup, Coca Cola Cup, and Capital One Cup. I am not familiar with any other names.

How is that for starters?

Wasn't there the Rumbelows Cup and Worthington Cup... I remember that because it sounded like Worlington!

Well done, boys. Here's the answer:

The League Cup was proper and in effect without the filthy lucre of corporate sponsorship from 1960 to 1982. After we'd all packed off back to the States it went through these incarnations:

1982-1986 - Milk Cup
1986-1990 - Littlewoods Cup
1990-1992 - Rumbelows Cup
1992-1998 - Coca Cola Cup
1998-2003 - Worthington Cup
2003-2012 - Carling Cup
2012-2016 - Capital One Cup
