Showdown at the Azteca!

It's the biggest match in Concacaf qualifying - Mexico hosting the US in the cauldron like atmosphere of the Stadio Azteca. If Jurgen Klinsmann's men can't get up for this one, they don't have a pulse. Bottom line - we need to survive and get a point tonight. The match starts at 10pm on ESPN.

Hey Bob,
you were missed this afternoon

10:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a shame about the match earlier. England should have been up by three in the first half

Did you read my last comments about the finish schedule for WCQ in the last thread?

10:05 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Pre-game ends at 10:15 but I think the kick off is at the bottom of the hour

10:09 PM

Good afternoon, BD and UWS.I agree that Bob was missed. I did read the comments about the finish schedule. The match vs Monte at Wembley will be vital.

I think that is correct.

No Italian Stallions up front???

Why aren't Mexico wearing green?

10:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES IT IS!!!

It won't end until after midnight!

10:24 PM
Blogger Someone Said said...

It's a tough place to play. 7,500 feet up. 100,000 plus who are loud. A point would be a great result.

10:25 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

UWS, the lack of Italian Stallions up top . . . nail on freaking head

10:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I predict that Mexico will win 2-0. I would change it to Desmond if the Italian Stallions were up front.

Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Nice American presence in the crowd.

Mexicans booing the Start Spangled Banner.... just like the old days at Wembley!

I remember them booing the Argentina NA and got bored booing cuz it was so long

10:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am not sure why Mexico isn't wearing agree. I agree with Someone. The Azteca is a cauldron at an altitude of 7500. That may explain why the U.S played in Denver

Costa Rica have taken the lead vs Panama.

10:27 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

What was that reprise at the end of the Star Spangled Banner?

Correct John.Costa Rica took the lead vs Jamaica.Thank you .

10:29 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I was talking with the school soccer coach and he was saying that if our best strategy is to play in altitude to get used to playing Mexico even though the weather could end up as it did.. it is sad

10:30 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

MUR . . . this is a big match .. . you must be a little nervous . . . I'm depending upon you for pinpoint accuracy with your comments . . . you have my complete faith . . . at least for another fifteen minutes. . . then you may be subbed out.

10:38 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Great challenge by Beasley.

10:39 PM
Blogger Someone Said said...

Beasley kicked out some bright movement outside the box, then he gets booked.

10:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It does to me... We didn't qualify for yonks... we still didn't lose to Mexico?

10:39 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Dive? or push?

10:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Horrible free kick from Dos Santos. He can do that the entire match as far as I am concerned.

10:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We didn't lose to them in the U.S. We may have drawn matches that we now win.

10:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I know Mexico have always had a tough time playing in the U.S.

10:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A mexican went down in the box as he was pushed. The linesman put his flag up... ref didn't see him

10:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The linesman waived for a penalty off the blocked from Dis Santos.

10:44 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Who the hell is the commentator rooting for Mexico?

10:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That have their Mexian bloke on the pre-game show.. must be him

10:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Beasley plays in the Mexican league?

10:45 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

That would've been a harsh penalty. The Mexico player stopped running, forcing the contact.

10:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jozy wins a corner off a long ball from Clint.

10:46 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh, just wide... foul called anyway

10:46 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Refs call everything on the set pieces. Ridiculous.

10:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jeff Cameron heads just wide from the corner as he was called for a push

10:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. It didn't seem much of a push and I agree that the penalty would have been harsh. Minimal contact on Chicha.

10:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The linesman that called for the penalty is the ref's brother. Not a case of brotherly love!

10:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

At least Chicha isn't hurt. I hurt he came off last Friday

Did you Fergie is going to put out two completely different teams for the Saturday and Monday games?
Will he play the top team in the Cup because of the FIFTEEN points lead

10:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I wonder what happened to Bob.

10:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think so. I hope we don't lose to Sunderland because we have a reserve side. Also because the players are coming back from international duty. Will Raffa do the same with Chelsea?

10:50 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Edu crap give away. Bradley stripped. Need to keep possession

10:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I want three points on Saturday!

10:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Of course, I wanted three today too

10:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Halftime and Panama lead Honduras 1-0 while Costa Rica lead Jamaica by the same score.

10:51 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yellow card again... they are giving out far too much these days!

10:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Beesler booked for a foul on Dos Santos.

10:51 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well collected by Brad

10:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with both three point statements and also agree that yellow cards are just as easy to collect as toilet paper.

10:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Chicha heads over a great cross. He should have hit the target. I would prefer to see him do that tonight rather than Monday at SB.

10:53 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

10:57 PM

Hate refs that make a call and blows his whistle and sprints to the spot of the foul!

Open header at the back post... saved

10:58 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

This is breaking bad.

10:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zavala with a free header should have scored, but fortunately headed straight to Guzan off the free kick

10:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. The refs don't need to be in the spotlight.

10:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ESPN's website has this match as top billing...what is going on in this country

11:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great through ball to Bradley. A shame that his touch let him down or else the U.S probably would have taken the lead.

11:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I can't believe that Ochoa, the Mexican keeper, may be joining Liverpool. What is wrong with Pepe Reina?

11:11 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What is wrong with Liverpool!!!

HOPEFULLY LOTS

11:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Poor pass from Jozy and Mexico break. Shocking cross from Dos Santos. Is he training with MUFC?

11:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, UWS. Something must be wrong if that want that shorty keeper going for crosses in the Prem.

11:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Beasley should be subbed at the half. I wouldn't put it past him to do something stupid to get a second yellow.

11:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was a great run and chip.. well done Guzan.. he got the ball and saved the rebound

11:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hand of God... right about that exact place on the pitch!!!

11:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great keeping by Guzan as he came out to get the pass as he was fouled by Zavala.

11:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

US had a chance there... get the passes right

11:15 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Damn .. . we need to get a shot on goal

11:15 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Okay . . let's get a goal here.

11:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into stoppage time.

11:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This will be the third 45 minute period that Mexico have not scored in front of their home crowd!

11:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Liverpool target can't even catch a routine cross off the free kick. Corner to the U.S.

11:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again... Liverpool...sign him up... looks brilliant!

11:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Three minutes of stoppage time.

11:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

And the ref blows up after TWO!!

So far so good

11:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hope it's four 45 minute periods. Also, I would love to see Liverpool sign him. MUFC must be licking their chops.

11:19 PM

Blogger United We Stand said...

Away we go for the second half

11:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway from the Azteca.Never a pen. The Mexican commentator is obviously biased.

11:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was a bit lucky

11:36 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

Almost an OG to start the half. ..

11:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nearly an Og by Beesler as a cross from Aquino is out for a corner that comes to nothing

11:36 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Another crappy corner from that paticular corner flag... is there a jet stream coming from the corner?

11:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brown is better with beer while blueberry is better with wine or champers

11:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure, but something most be propelling those footballs.

11:38 PM

Crappy defending by Maurice Edu. Stupid foul on Chicha, then he gifts possession just outside the box.
