Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I'm on this link for the match:
http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/186560/1/watch-arsenal-vs-wigan-athletic.html
Here is the team news out of the Em tonight:
Arsenal: Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs; Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky; Walcott, Podolski, Cazorla
Wigan: Joel, Alcaraz, Boyce, Scharner, Espinoza, McCarthy, Maloney, Gomez, McManaman, McArthur, Kone
We're away at the Em and Arsenal are straight into the attack trying to kill the game off early.
The Gunners should be the fresher side as they didn't play at the weekend and Wigan might not be down from the high of Cup glory.
A furious pace in this initial period, but few chances as of yet.
GOAL! Podolski opens the scoring for the Gunners from a routine corner.
A comedy of errors there from a routine corner. Scharner got pulled out of position by the run of Mertesacker and the ball trickled by three players before Poldi nodded home on the bounce.
1-0 Arsenal in the 11th minute!
Another corner - this time cleared out by Scharner.
All Arsenal pressure at the moment. They're really going for the jugular. Another corner.
The consequences of that goal could not be more dire for Wigan. They will be relegated if the score stays the same. Even a draw virtually relegates them today.
As for Arsenal, it keep them a point better than Spurs going into that last match with a Newcastle who may well be safe at that point.
Wigan starting to get into Arsenal's half at least, Macca at the heart of most of their endeavors.
Half an hour gone and the same pattern.
Arsenal fans just a wee bit anxious now as the Gunners have clearly taken the foot off the gas after that first goal. Allowing Wigan to play a bit.
Theo's got it in the net but it's ruled offside.
Coming down to the last five minutes of the half.
The rain, which was a trickle at kick-off, is really coming down in torrents now. Really affecting the play.
Arteta gives up a silly free kick in a dangerous area. Maloney to take....
GOAL! Bang - Wigan are back in it!
1-1
Very similar to the one he scored late on at QPR. Left footed pseudo Ronaldo effort that went up over the wall and straight in.
That has much more affect on Arsenal than it does on Wigan who need a win tonight. Arsenal are now back down to 68 points, a point behind Spurs.
Arsenal will bellyache about that free kick but they only have themselves to blame for putting the foot on the brakes for most of this half.
Half-time - Boos ringing around the ground now.
Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero has just scored for Citeh against woeful Reading. He only needs to score another 14 today and Sunday for me to claim six points for GBB.
Looks as if Citeh will finish about ten points behind United this season.
Good afternoon Bob. I am back from taking Jacquelyn to the dentist and see it's finely balanced at 1-1.
We're back on for the first half and Kone is nearly in there. Great save by Sussudio!
Kone has a close range effort blocked by Seudio after a nice one two.
Martinez not pleased about that missed opportunity on a rainy evening.
Halftime at the Madjeski with Citeh one up thanks to a goal by Ageuro. Braina Kidd in charge tonight.
Hey Bob
I am home before going to give my final
This is end to end stuff now!!
Both teams have to go for the win!!!
McCarhty has a goal disallowed for offside then Robles makes a great save from Poldi and Carzola shoots the rebound wide.
Wigan are good!!
Why do they struggle!!!
Hey MUR
Hello UWS. I missed the first half but it's an exciting start to the second half.
Afternoon, lads - how are you?
This score does neither team any good whatsoever!
Alcaraz booked for a foul
Doing great how are you.
I agree, UWS. Wigan would need a ten goal swing on Sunday if it ends in a draw. I agree that they are too good to struggle.
Newcastle fans are now safe... they are now rooting for the Latics!!!
I don't mind Wigan but if they go down.. I should win the PPP!!!!
If Wigan are relegated then I predict that they will run away with the Championship unless they sell off most of their starters
If they go down, Martinez will leave and they will be a run of the mill Championship side
You would win the PPP. I don't think I could catch you,.
Could be, but I think this group of players would be better than anything currently in the Championship.
Matt said that MacManaman was brilliant in the Cup Final. He's been called up by England's U21 sided today
wigan's first corner of the match
Speak of the devil... he looks hurt
The corner is cleared, but Wigan maintain possession.
Why would Wigan by time wasting... they need the win
I thought that was him down. Matt was correct. They named the squad for the tournament in Israel.
I agree. The normally clever Maloney was really stupid.
Shame.. he gets called up by his country and now is off
Citeh one up at the half at Reading.
Poldi heads straight at Robles. He should have scored. A free header
Boyce headers just wide.. the commentator didn't seem too excited
A draw does not help Wigan . This would leave them needing a win vs Villa and a Sunderland loss a t Spurs. Both results would need to result in an eleven goal swing. Extremely unlikely.
Nearing the hour mark - UWS is right; this result would do no favors to either side. Something's got to give.
DId you see ITV get rights for all England matches for the next four years
Theo gets behind Scharner. Great block by Robles.
Oh - Theo was in behind Scharner there but he went for the low percentage option of a near post shot. Easily saved by Joel.
I did not know that. Thanks for the update, UWS.
Any late wigan heroics like there was on Saturday?
I don't want Villa to go down so it would be Sunderland instead of Wigan
If Wigan win today, and they beat Wigan, Sunderland would have to lose to Spurs or Villa would be down
GOAL!!
THEO PUTS ARSENAL AHEAD AGAIN!!
GOAL! Theo does score this time!
GOAL !!!! 2-1 GUNNERS AS THEO EASILY SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE.
Cazorla did really well there to sweep the ball over in the most dangerous area. Theo did well to dive in with Joel.
2-1!
great run down the right by Carzola and Theo scores from close range.
Ben watson, the Cup Final hero, is on for Gomez.
Of course, will Arsenal struggle at St. James' Park?
Why do Wigan struggle? Throughout the season key lapses in defense as there was with this goal
I don't expect that Newcastle will put up much effort as they'll be safe with this result.
Who do Spurs play on Sunday?
Arsenal will struggle at SJP , but I think they will nick a win/
Wigan are clearly better going forward than they are defending.
Spurs host Sunderland.
As things stand Wigan will be relegated in about 25 minutes, just three days after their Cup Final win. They would become the first relegated club to win the FA Cup.
I don't think Newcastle being safe will be a factor. They would have been nervous nellies if they could have still gone down. Now, they can just play well in front of their own fans to finish the season up
I think they might get the win
Newcastle were already safe due to the Wigan vs Villa match on Sunday, regardless of the result in this match
PODOLSKI EXTENDS THE GUNNERS LEAD!!
GOAL! Podolski scores his second!
GOAL !!!! 3-1 AS POLDI SCORES FOR THE GUNNERS AND I THINK WIGAN ARE BASICALLY RELEGTED.
More comical defending from Wigan allows Poldi to run through and dink one over Joel for number 3.
3-1 Arsenal!
I know they are safe.. that's why they are going to be under no pressure!
I doubt whether any Premiership clubs will be offering fat contracts to Paul Scharner at this point. He's been at the center of all three goals.
Route One from the Gunners as Sesudio had a long free kick headed away and poor by emmerson Boyce as he allowed Carzola to head in front of him so Poldi could easily score from close range
I've never had it before but...
I"VE GOT THE TROPHY BACK
I"VE GOT THE TROPHY BACK
I'VE GOT THE TROPHY BACK
I'VE GOT THE TROPHY BACK
That's hard to predict. Arsenal will only have to do as well as Spurs.
First team ever to WIN the Cup Final and be relegated in the same season
FOUR ONE!!
RAMSEY
STEVE DAHLGREN IS DANCING IN HIS OFFICE!!
GOAL! Ramsey notches number four and Roberto is definitely not dancing in the rain.
I would say the whole back four, nit just Shcarner.
GOAL!!! 4-1 AS IT IS GETTING REALLY UGLY AS AARON RAMSEY GETS BWEHIND THE WIGAN DEFENSE.
They are doing the Steve Dahlgren Dance at Villa Park and Stadium of Light
Gene Kelly would be proud, Bob.
Ramsey broke through on left and knocked it home. He could have easily picked out either Poldi or Theo. Wigan all over the place now.
4-1!
3 goals in 8 minutes
I concede, UWS.
CONGRATULATIONS !
I do believe that the Gooner pulled a sicky today and is at home enjoying this one. Shhhhh!
Those three second half goals are the story of Wigan's season.Comical defending on all three goals. That is why they struggle.
Gooner doing the Gooner Shuffle in the streets of Alex?
I don't just blame Scharner. it's the whole wigan back four. Any Prem team would be foolish to sign any of them.Hull City might.
I'll have to look again at the standings but I don't think it matters, MUR. Maybe my math is off but I think you've got it in the bag, no?
Oh - DiSanto nearly nicked a consolation goal back there.
Di Santo heads just over from the corner by Maloney
I think UWS goes a point ahead of me if Wigan are relegated. It's best to have you check.
I wonder if UWS predicts a Man Yoo victory in the Community Shield Zaha or not.
Poor final pass by Ramsey as the Gunners walked through the Wigan supposed back four.
Young Jack on for Rosicky
I thought Wigan going down wins it for me
Poldi, not Rosicky.
So, United v Wigan in the Charity Shield!!
Ox for Poldi and Young Jack on for Ramsey.
Correct, UWS. Should be an easy win./
I think you will defeat me by one point, UWS.
Well... that's what they said about Citeh in the Cup Final
Jacquelyn had two teeth extracted at the dentist and can still claim to have a better day than Wigan Athletic Football Club
True, UWS.
This one's dead and buried, lads, so I'm off for a lovely late afternoon swim.
I'll be totting up the PPP points later, so you can check my math.
The Fat Lady is:
SINGING IN THE RAIN or
IT IS RAINING ON WIGAN'S PARADE!
Cheers BD. enjoy the swimming.
I am leaving now to go give my final exam at the college
Take Care
TTFN
North London vs the Northeast to decide the Wenger Trophy!Relegation has already been decided.
Cheers UWS. Have fun.
A corner from Theo is headed away
OX goes past Di Santo then Di Santo tackles him for a corner.
Henriquez, the young Chilean on loan from Man Yoo, is on for Maloney
A scramble in the Wigan box off the corner and the ref calls a foul to end the Arsenal threat
Henriquez offside from a throw . SAf and/ or Moyes will not be impressed.
Woy and Ray Lewington in the stands scouting. I would guess it's some Gunners
Di Santo has a cross deflected for a corner.
Useless short corner.
Arteta receives a standing ovation as he is replaced by Vermaelen
Arteta goes down the tunnel as he picks up a knock is questionable for the match Sunday at SJP.
a late Wigan corner as the two minutes have been played.
That's it as Wigan are relegated 72 hours after they win the FA Cup, becoming the first team to do that double.arsenal in the driver's seat for the last CL spot.
Citeh win 0-2 at reading as Jerko scored a late goal. Citeh fans holding a banner that reads "Forza Mancini."
It was great chatting .Cheers!
