Football in the Post-Fergie Era
So Sir Alex has finally chewed his last piece of gum on the touchline at Old Trafford. What does that mean for the rest of us? Well - someone else has a chance to win some silverware, for one. First up in the post-Fergie era today - the Wenger Cup clash between Chelski and the Spuds at the Bridge. Join me from 2:45 pm EST to follow along.

Subs - Turnbull, Lamps, Moses, Terry, Ba, Benayoun, Ake.
Spuds - Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Parker, Fatty, Lennon, Bale, Holtby, Ade.
Subs - Friedel, Demps, Naughton, Ballhog, Sigurdsson, Caulker, Carroll.
I refuse to join you after you comment on the last post!!!!
Dropping the car off to spend $600 on tires on the way home.
I will be late home to begin to ignore you!!!
I'm finally on a decent link for the match - here it is:
http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/185468/3/watch-chelsea-vs-tottenham-hotspur.html
Here are the implications for today's match. This is the make-up match for both sides, who are on 35 matches played. Chelski are in third with 68 points and +34 GD. Spurs are in 5th on the other side of Arsenal in 4th on 65 points and +18 GD. I reckon that a clean Chelski win is probably the best result for the Arsenal. That would leave them two points clear of Spurs and with better goal difference with only two matches to play.
It's Rob Hawthorn and the Neviller on the mic this afternoon.
Still ignoring you
It's battle of the silly haircuts today for Spurs with Parrot-Heads Dawson and Bale battling it out against the Afro Puff power of Assou-Ekotto and Fatty Huddlestone.
Afternoon, UWS - glad to have on board ignoring me. How's your week been?
At we're underway at the Bridge.
And Cashley is straight at the races.
Good afternoon BD and UWS.
Afternoon, mate - how was lunch?
Just by kicking off, Spurs have drawn within a point of the Gunners. Very, very tight in the battle for the Wenger Cup.
Will Chelski (and Moo) buy a big-time striker this summer or continue with Torres?
Could all top four sides have new managers at the start of the new season?
United - Moyes; Citeh - ????; Chelski - Moo; Arsenal - Klippity Klopp;
Chelski have the chance to float a free kick into the big boys after Fatty ran someone over.
Aimed at Ivanovic, who wins a corner.
Could be. Lunch was great. Thanks for asking
GOAL! Cahill with a towering header from the corner. I want to see more of those for England!
1-0!
BUGGER! i JUST MISSED THE GOAL BECAUSE THE PAGE WAS LOADING. nOW i FINALLY HAVE THE MATCH
Great news for the Gooners out there. It drops Spurs back down to 65 points and now +17 GD.
Gooner will be pleased because a SPurs win basically rules them out of the CL.
Everton still with an outside chance of pipping Spurs for that Europa spot - they're five point back now.
The answer to your question is yes and no. Cithe may opt to keep Mancini and Wenger is not going anywhere
Even if Arsenal don't win the Wenger Cup?
Wide by Holtby.Cech had that covered.
That is a good question. I am not sure about that.
Naughty by Dawson on Hazard.
Dawson is lucky not to see yellow after that hack on Hazard.
Poor cross by Mata. He usually does much better
Oh - Mata had a clear sight of goal there but blazed well over.
Even though Moyes will be the new manager at OT, I expect SAF on the touchline for the remaining two matches.
Why is UWS ignoring you?
So far, not a happy return to SB for AVB.
Well - if Spurs lose today, Arsenal are odds on to win the Wenger Cup. They've only got Wigan at home and Newcastle away on the last day. Probably full points from those two.
Because I joked about Fergie on the earlier thread that he posted. He's being a big baby.
Chelsea counter after a great tackle on Holtby. A cross is cleared by Spurs./
I thought it was that, but I was just guessing. I responded with a humorous quip.
Another free kick chance for Chelski. This one looks set up for a Sideshow blast.
Sideshow blasts into Parker's mush there.
I agree. I see Arsenal winning those two. Also, Wigan have to defeat Villa and hope that Norwich or Sunderland lose their last two .I think the declining Canaries could help me. I always thought they might be in it
Did Sideshow smile about it?
Yeah - Wigan are really up against it now. Their defending was really of the Keystone Kops variety, particularly on the third goal. Really poor.
I could use help from the Toon but surely they must get something at Loftus Road on Sunday
I didn't see a sneaky smile this time.
Absolutely. Other than the two defensive gaffes it was an even match. Wigan's poor home form is really hurting them
I have to hope Norwich lose to the Baggies and at The Etihad. That could happen. I don't see Sunderland losing to Sotton, but perhaps at WHL/.
Spurs counter and
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS ADE LEAD THE COUNTER AND SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH OFF A GREAT SOLO RUN OFF A CHELSEA CORNER.
GOAL! Ade pulls one out of nowhere to fire Spurs right back into this one. Great run and a curler.
1-1!
Just got home as Adebayor breaks with the ball. I ask Matt why is he playing... Matt said... THAT'S WHY!!
GREAT GOAL!!
I believe Spurs are still one point behind the Arse. Is that correct?
Hello UWS. Welcome.
That could happen. The thing is Norwich have won in yonks. And Newcastle are in terrible form. Both sides don't really know where the next point is coming from.
That goal will be particularly unpopular with Gooners for multiple reasons.
Yeah - they're back to 66 points now with +18 GD. A Spurs win today would really scupper Arsenal's chances of a Wenger Cup.
True - the air in my brother's office has just got a bit blue. I fear for his co-workers.
I agree Bd, but I think the Toon should be able to get something from Loftus Road , which should just see them over the finish line.Norwich should be able to help me. I don;t think Wigan will win at The EM for the second year in a row, so I hope they can defeat Villa.
Hey MUR... just you here... I don't see anyone else!!!
UWS still ignoring me - the big baby.
Scotty Parker down after being fouled.
Am I favorite for the Shield after last night's result?
A loss by Wigan at the Em could be curtains depending on what happens while Wigan are in the Cup Final
Handbags?
Five Live has a long special on Mr. "Overrated" right now
Good listening
Everything seems to be pointing to Mosey
Yes. You are favorite. My only chance seems to be if Wigan defeat Villa and either Norwich or one of the two Geordie clubs lose their final two matches.
Yeah - I'd have to say so, UWS. It's possible that Matt with a Dortmund win and some others things might get close.
Someone posted an article from the Daily Telegraph on Bookface. ,stating that Moyes will be named new MUFC manager in the next 24 hours.
How do you lot feel about that?
Bale should have passed there!
Great block by Cahill. More of those for England please.
About Moyes?
Moo is supposedly lined up to take-over for Chelski on July 1. How about Rafa to join Everton?
Yeah - about Moyes as the new manager? Happy with that?
I want a proper comment by Dr Dahlgren at half time on the other post!
THis is one of the biggest posts for a quarter of a century!
5Live talking as if Moyes is coming
Haven't seen Monkey Boy all match - where's he been? Searching for bananas?
Ade almost in at the back post... good effort
Ade stretched out his giant leg but he shinned it rather than making decent contact.
I would think Martinez might have a shot of taking over at Goodison
I was expecting that. Not sure if he will have the same success as SAF. Raffa will probably not go to the Prem. Now way that the Toffees will hire a former Pool manager. My brother thinks Roberto Martinez will be new Everton manager
Will do, mate - I'm composing an appropriate tribute in my head now.
GOAL !!! 2-1 CHELSEA.
NICE FINISH BY BA.
Goal!!
Chelsea retake the lead!
Ramieres with the goal
It happened on 5Live before FSC
GOAL! Ramires fires the Blues back into the lead to make Gooner a happier chappy.
2-1!
Torres played a lovely ball through that either Os-CAR or Ramires could have got to. In the end Ramires sped on to it and toe-poked home.
Nice through ball by Torres and Ba beat Dawson for pace for a nice finish. Gooner will be pleased.
Sorry. Poor feed. it must have been Ramires, but well done Torres.
Desmond is thinking about Attending this match, but Gooner is shoving him away.
Desmond is thinking about Attending this match, but Gooner is shoving him away.
Will be anyone be around for the Championship playoff at The Crisps tomorrow?
If Moyes takes over, will he leave Everton right away or finish up the season
Wide by Kyle Walker off the throw. Nice one two with Ade.
Oh - well worked throw-in routine between Walker and Holtby. He tried a near post effort. Low percentage really. Well wide.
The CHAMPIONS better sign off Fergie's era with two impressive victories to end the season....especially the last home match
I am not sure. I was wondering the same. I agree that Roberto Martinez will probably take over.
I agree 100%, UWS. Superb post earlier this morning , especially considering it is a difficult day for United fans.
Another tasty move by Chelski ends with a tame shot by Os-CAR straight at Lloris.
Into stoppage time.Two minutes.
No tongue in cheek comments by BD in the other post
I want truthful comments.
I know Tony began to hate him and I know fans of other clubs couldn't stand him
Moyes's last match be at SB.The same with Raffa.
They have a special football focus on tonight. I will definitely look for that
Just posted my tribute to Sir Alex. Enjoy!
I still think they respect him. Part of that hatred was jealousy, but deep down they respect him.
Cheers, BD.
Half time
Good news for Gooner but not for Tony's boss
Halftime and 2-1 Chelsea.
You're a plonker!
Lulz! ;-)
From the Beeb
Everton manager David Moyes is set to be appointed as the new Manchester United manager, following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
An announcement is expected to be made on Thursday.
Ferguson, 71, announced his decision to step down after nearly 27 years at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Scot Moyes, 50, who has been in charge at Goodison Park since 2002, held talks with Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright on Wednesday evening.
Your nickname should be changed to the Haggis-Eaters.
Glenda and Graeme Souness in the studio.
Not bad name!!!
So what Evertonians would you like to see Moyesy bring with him?
Second half gets underway
We're back on for the second half - Spurs kicking us off. I have to bugger off in about ten minutes for my last Wednesday session of the semester.
Reading CNN
Could you see this happening??
That Trophy Guy
Whenever Americans think of great coaches, the first name that pops up is Vince Lombardi. The coach was so great in his day that his league eventually named its championship trophy after him. (Should the EPL name its trophy after Sir Alex? Another topic for another day.)
United drop 5% on the NYSE within 15 minutes of opening this morning
I'd rather see them give him a ceremonial bag of Pick 'n' Mix.
United favorites for relegation next season?
Oh dear - my link has just frozen. Some Red Devil must have been monitoring my blasphemous comments.
LOL
Ignoring begins again!!
can't wait for your Wednesday afternoon class to start.
Make sure you discuss SAF in class
I'm back on.
Serves you right
Essay question for my students:
"Critique Sir Alex Ferguson's ethics, including at least three examples of his gamesmanship."
ManYoo, Citeh, Chelski, Arse and Spuds all with new managers next season? That would make things interesting!
I have to bugger off since my last class is about to start. I will watch this evening. Not favorites for relegation, but may be runners up next year. Cheers lads.
Have a good one, MUR!
Why would Spurs need a new one
ttfn
If they're out of Europe? It could happen.
Oh - Hazard should have added #3 there. Shame.
Right - I'm off to set up my class.
TTFN
Free kick chance for Spurs....poor effort
Chelsea break from a corner... Dawson recovers well but a pass to Ramieres but slips as he could score
Lennon is off being replaced by Siggy
I'm back - surely Spurs don't want to get anything out of this one if they're subbing LUFC Academy!
Defoe needs to come on soon.. 22 minutes to go
Paddy Crerrand says that Sir Matt didn't stick his nose in
We've hit the 70 minute mark so time for more subs. Looks like Clint is about to enter proceedings. The Mystery man Holtby is off.
You're calling for The Ballhog?
Hazard off and Moses on to part the Red Sea.
He'll shoot!!!!
Down to 15 minutes for Spurs to rescue their season. It's looking like Europa League or bust for them. Gooner is having a good giggle. Bale off to Spain for sure.
Demps made the wrong decision there.. he should have passed that
Clint was in but Ivanovic did well to block the shot.
He won't go to OT now
How much would I love to see Ivanovic at the Elland? The man is a titan!
Was he ever considering it? I always thought he was Spain-bound.
Another Spurs corner now.
Two terrible Fatty corners in a row.
Two useless corners by Huddlestone
There was talk that Fergie wanted him.. still pissed because he didn't come to us in the first place
Will Moyes move in and kick all the staff out
IT'S DESMOND!!!!
SIGGY SLOTS IT HOME
Ten minutes to go
Adebayor set that up.. could have been offside but he his pass made that goal
Adebayor looks fast and up for this
Chelsea look knackered
Gooner not happy at all.
I'm off to my class.
Oscar replaced by Benayoun... fans scream... "You don't know what you're doing"
Take care
2 of the 90 left
An ATROCIOUS free kick by Huddlestone
it was on the left and he just had to chip in the box... he missed the box and went out for a throw-in
Just entered 4 added minutes
Dempsey shoots from an acute angle... easy save
SPURS PUSHING FOR THE WINNER
Free kick for Spurs... perfect chance for Bale... DON'T LET HUDDLESTONE TAKE IT
Bale will take it around the 92 minute...it is the right angle and distance....up he comes... saved
Pretty weak effort
Not much power and straight at Cech
1 minute to go
Last chance saloon... give away a free kick.. that should do it
Desmond has stayed for good!
Not a good result for Spurs but better than a loss
Two games to go for teams
United 85
Citeh 75
Chelsea 69
Arsenal 67
Spurs 66
I think that makes Chelsea almost certain for the top 4
Will Spurs win at Stoke on Sunday?
Arsenal don't play until midweek at home to Wigan
I am off to get ready for running practice
TTFN
