Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Sir Alex Ferguson... Simply the Best!

So, that day that we all thought would not arrive has officially arrived! Sir Alex Ferguson is retiring from the helm at Old Trafford! Who will replace him? Will it be the same as when the other Scottish Knight left Old Trafford? Will it take United 26 years to win the league again? Will it take five managers to finally find the right replacement ? Moyes? The Special One? Who knows? Did SAF have a plan for his retirement that Sir Matt didn't? Will United's gravy train of trophies finally be over?

Let's not look forward for a minute and look back instead. SAF did not have success right away. He was given time though. He took 4 years to win a trohpy and then everything came right. During those four years, no one, except for the people in the know, saw what he was doing behind the scenes. Hopefully, that has continued and the incoming manager will have an easier time of it.

Here is a list of the trophies won by Sir Alex Ferguson... THE GREATEST MANAGER EVER!

Premier League: 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013; FA Cup: 1990, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2004; League Cup: 1992, 2006, 2009, 2010; Uefa Champions League: 1999, 2008; Fifa Club World Cup: 2008; Uefa Super Cup: 1992; Uefa Cup Winners Cup: 1991; Inter-Continental Cup: 1999; FA Charity/Community Shield: 1990 (shared), 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011

NEVER TO BE BETTERED

Thanks SAF for all the happy times

Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty on BBC Radio 5 live: "If it is David Moyes [to replace Ferguson] I congratulate him and feel sorry for him. How can you follow the impossible?

"He [Ferguson] has still got a lot of contribution to make to the club."

Much respect to Sir Alex, who blazed an amazing legacy. And because of that legacy, whoever replaces him is going to be under a microscope. I wish the franchise well, except for a least two matches a year.

If Moyes does come over, I hope he brings naismith with him.

Why don't you want them to do well in the last two games?

I just wanted to say that I am glad that UWS posted this because I don't think I could have done nearly the job.I am stunned, surprised, in a state of disbelief, etc. They say no man is an island, but he is really damn close!A footie guru if ever there was one!All you have to do is look at his record and it speaks for itself. He was not a phony, instead he was a genuine human being who was well respected. I liked the fact that he din't have his favorites.
Now for the future. Perhaps I should have seen this coming . SAF has indirectly hinted that Moyes would be a great successor and has been documented by the media.I would guess he would be favorite despite his lack of CL experience and inexperience dealing with large budgets.Sir Matt actually picked a replacemment. It was the 31 year old inexperienced Wilf McGuiness, who had managed the reserve team to several titles. He was a disaster, but I don't think it will be the same with Moyes. The only problem is that whoever follows SAF will be under intense scrutiny and will be under extreme pressure to emulate what he did. Any little mistake will be magnified. A tough act to follow.
In conclusion, I will really miss SAF.As far as I am concerned, he is an institution and the master! He brought a lot of happiness and he could be counted on to bring us success. SAF, thanks for the memories. You will be missed. A sad day.

I said at least two matches a year, not this one.

Moyes the favorite, but the knock against him is lack of CL experience and no major trophies.I still think he did remarkably well considering the budget. I think Someone would agree. Other candidates mentioned are Kloppety Klopp, Joe Mou, Ancelotti, and Heynkes. The only two that have a chance are Moyes and Kloppety Klopp with Moyes being first choice.

Will the change in management stop players from coming to OT? Will any of the targets not come because of no Fergie
Will other players leave?
Is RVP happy without SAF?
Will Rooney stay because of a relationship to Moyes? He gave him his chance in the Prem.

He's over-rated.

A very happy retirement to Sir Alex. I'm sure he'll be able to use the gold watch to keep "Fergie Time" in the backyard now.

He'll be upstairs , not in the backyard, LOL!Great questions from UWs and the scary thing is that the answers all are possibly yes.

Some Fergie stats:

First, The following clubs have had this many managers while SAF was Man United manager :

Real Madrid 24
Inter 19
Chelsea 18
Bayern 14
Juve 14
Citeh 14
Liverpool 10

SAF has 13 EPL titles. How does that compare to managers in other sports?

Phil Jackson 11 NBA titles
Scotty Bowman 9 NHL titles
Joe McCarthy and Casey Stengel each with seven World Series
Chuck Noll Four Super Bowls

My Conclusion:

SAF IS THE GREATEST
