Sunday Double-Header!
Yesterday in the Premiership was a bit of a snooze-fest, but today will be anything but. We start with the 220th edition of the Merseyside classic. It doesn't matter that Liverpool and Everton can't really change their position at this point - these matches always matter. Then we have a match with real consequences for the top of the table - United v. Chelski. Join me from 8:30am onward for all the action.

I'm at work, but am following here and on talksport.
COYB!
Will the Everton support sing "You'll Never Dine Alone" in honor of the suspended Suarez?
LOL! Good morning, Someone - nice one!
Great to have you on board for the Merseyside Derby.
Here are the teams in the tunnel coming out at Anfield.
Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Jose Enrique; Lucas, Gerrard; Downing, Henderson, Coutinho; Sturridge.
Subs: Jones, Assaidi, Coates, Borini, Suso, Shelvey, Skrtel.
Everton: Howard; Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Mirallas, Osman, Gibson, Pienaar; Fellaini; Anichebe.
Subs: Mucha, Hibbert, Heitinga, Jelavic, Oviedo, Naismith, Duffy.
Referee: Michael Oliver
No Neville on the Everton bench and an out of form Jelavic is not in the starting XI.
Everton get us underway and the atmosphere around Merseyside is absolutely buzzing. Everton start in 6th, five points ahead of Pool in 7th.
Morning Gentlemen
I am up and ready to go.
I do have three sleeping 17 year olds asleep in the living room though
I wonder why Jelavic has been excluded? Is he for the off this summer?
Morning, UWS - how on earth do three teenagers sleep through the Merseyside Derby? Kids these days!
Jelavic has had one goal in the last 18 matches. Very disappointing.
That is disappointing.
They're all footer fans too
Oh - marvelous 50 yard laser from Gerrard nearly got Sturridge in there. His cross was cleared out.
Fifteen minutes in and no real chances yet. Typically tight derby affair with no quarter given.
The crowd is certainly involved. Gerrard seems quite motivated, he's involved on all sides of the ball.
Oh - Fellaini a whisker away from opening the scoring with a volley from Baines' free kick. Carradona was all over him.
So close! Fellaini.
Gerrard gets a bollocking for a high boot.
A coasting and apathetic Celtic draw 1-1 at Ross County.
Darren Gibson tracks back well on Downing who had been released by Gerrard.
Nothing to play for anymore for Celtic, eh?
Henderson and Enrique are arguing with each other about who should have picked up Coleman there - shouldn't be doing that.
On the replay, Fellaini caught Agger with an elbow. Lots of little niggling going on that might boil over later.
THey said earlier that Liverpool is still the title capital of the country
27 titles
Manchester has 23
London has 19
United are doing their part.. but I don't want Citeh to put in their fair share!!!
Bit of a surge by Everton, but no finish.
Yes, Celtic have nothing to play for until the cup final. Lennon's admitted to resting key players and giving some of the kids a shot. At this point why not. Such a sad, uncompetitive league. Now Hearts are in bad financial straits.
In the League 2 Play off, Burton had won at Bradford 3-2, They are now losing at home 3-1
Wrexham and Newport County play today at Wembley in the BS Premier Play off game
An all Welsh FInal... at England's home of football.. for a place in the the English league!
Bradford have made it to Wembley for the second time this season. They have beaten Burton 5-4 on aggregate. That is 3rd losing to 7th. They finish only 7 points apart
I know who Robbie Savage will be cheering on today.
Great block to stop Gerrard from opening the scoring!
Just a back leg sticking out does the trick
This is Jamie Carragher's final Merseyside Derby before retirement - and he's trying to make it count!
He did it yesterday on 606
Gerrard all over the place today. Jags blocked a sure goal. How long can Everton's defense take in the attack without any answer?
Some smoke bombs going off in the Everton end.
The camera picks out Luis Suarez and Ian Rush in the crowd. Who is the better striker?
Agger is penalized for a tug on Fellaini's shirt. Baines can line up a free kick now.
No - it's Gibson; and it is pure rubbish.
Oh - Jags just nips in to block a point blank shot from Coutinho.
Monster playing by Jags in this half. Crucial defending.
Despite all of the chopping and stopping, only one minute to be added to this first half's action.
I agree, Someone. Jags and Cahill are my starting central defensive partnership for England.
BTW, Debs does not have a new iphone 5.... get your facts right Robert!
Half time.. another Prem Snoozefest!
Bring on the Championship
That's that for the first half - plenty of incident but I have to admit that I'm goal-starved. Hoping for better in the second half.
Good morning lads. I was getting some extra kip. I heard that those watching the match did too!Time for a strong pot of coffee.
Everton cannot settle for a draw, need three points to keep any glimmer of hope for Europe.
Starving for goals? There were five at the Hawthorns .
Morning MUR
Didn't miss much
Thanks mate! When they said it had an end of season fixture about it I figured that the extra kip was a good choice.
Some finals
Ross County 1 Celtic 1
A L2 playoff semi :
Bradford City lost 2-3 vs Burton Albion in midweek but won 1-3 at Burton Albion to win 5-4 on agg and are in another Wembley final. Never discount the strike force of James Hanson and Nahki Wells.Remember them in that Capital One Cup run?
Welcome, MUR - Pool about to kick off toward the Kop End in the second half.
The second half of the BORING BORNG Merseyside Derby is underway
Thanks BD. Great to be on board but hopefully not bored.
Jim Beglin , the ex Pool defender is one of the announcers
Do we know for sure that 6th place will be aced out of the Europa or is there a chance that Everton could sneak in under Fair Play rules as Liverpool did last season.
You guys the email with the JHJ songs?
Just spreading the word
Let's hope for better from this second half.
LPool is the best in the Prem in scoring in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Now or never for them?
I think Liverpool can get a fair play league spot
Thanks, UWS. I am looking forward to that.
Timmy did well to come smother the Sturridge effort
OH! Great double block by Timmy from Sturridge then Sturrdige has a shot come off the side netting
Howard on the back line, making stops.
Pool didn't qualify by Fair Play last season, it was due to the Carling Cup win.Sixth place will not get an EL spot thanks to Swansea and Wigan. I am not sure how the Prem ranks in Fair Play. If it is in the top two then either team could qualify .
Did you see the two finals? How about Bradford City?
Yeah - nice acoustic versions from the JHJ crew. I'd like to see them on MTV's "Unplugged" series.
Looking forward to what MUR?
From the BBC
English clubs have three places in the Europa League - for the FA Cup winners, the Capital One Cup winners and the fifth-placed team in the Premier League.
Swansea City were the first team to book their place in Europe by winning the Capital One Cup, and will enter the Europa League in the third qualifying round.
The fifth-placed team will enter the Europa League in the play-off round, with the FA Cup winners moving straight into the group stage.
If Manchester City qualify for the Champions League, their FA Cup final opponents Wigan will qualify for the Europa League, whether or not they win the final.
The top three countries in Uefa's Respect Fair Play league get an extra Europa League place, which is given to the highest-placed team in the top flight's Fair Play table that has not yet qualified for Europe.
In Uefa's interim rankings on 31 December 2012, England were fourth in the Fair Play table.
There were four English sides in the Europa last season, no? One of them must have qualified by Fair Play.
I don't like only one team making it into the EL from the league
In the old days, Champions into the European Cup and 2-4 in the UEFA Cup
Okay - thanks for the detailed clarification, UWS. So it will just be 5th place plus Swansea and Wigan. Right.
Okay - thanks for the detailed clarification, UWS. So it will just be 5th place plus Swansea and Wigan. Right.
Looking forward to listening to the JHJ songs you emailed me. I really am
Liverpool were in the because of Cup Final
Leeds gets a mention - if only because we lost to Liverpool in the League Cup.
Distin has it in the net but it's whistled off. Anichebe talks himself into the book.
A goal disallowed for an obvious push and Anichebe stupidly talks himself into the book.
I forget about the League Cup. So, Spurs and Toon made the EL because Pool too a spot for the League Cup and the FA Cup spot wasn't used because Chel and Pool already there
Vic is not there today. He'll be subbed out for Jelavic, anyone but Naismith.
Spurs qualified finishing 5th
Toon finished 6th
Pool Carling Cup win
Chelsea Parachuted in
Crikey - have a look at this story:
MURRAY, Utah (AP) — A 46-year-old soccer referee who was punched by a teenage player during a game and later slipped into a coma has died, police said.
Right - that makes sense.
Not much for that goal to be disallowed
Sounds like a Fair Play Spot is not up for grabs or was that a preliminary estimate?
Should I continue to give points to correct guesses for 6th and 7th place in the PPP? No one guessed either Swansea or Wigan in the Europa.
Crikey! That teenager deserves a severe punishment! What is the world coming to?
Sounds like a fair way of doing things.
Indeed, MUR.
The commentator reinforces the answer to my earlier question.
Matt wants to complain about the scoring system!
He doesn't think the Golden Boot shoot get more points than the CL winner
Did you all see that Bradford City are returning to Wembley?
I would say next year, it should be a different category. You could double your points!
Points for 5th and 6th and points for League Cup and FA Cup. If it is the same team.. more points
Already posted that sleepyhead!!!
I guess the same number of points for GBB as CL winner. These things are always subject to change each new season.
Sure thing - we always adjust the points for the next season, as we did with Champions getting 10 points rather than eight this season. I'm always open to revising. But we should stick to the current system this time around. It's between you and MUR.
And tell Matt that he has to be awake in order to win the PPP! ;-)
Still sleeping!
I snooze I lose? Perhaps not after the first half borefest?
agreed
Who is going to win!
I can't figure it out!
As MUR stated yesterday, it's all down to whether Wigan will be relegated and whether Spurs make it into the CL. Those are the two factors that will decide whether the Shield will be going to either Glenville or Harlingen.
What makes what happen
Bradford City play either Cheltenham or Northampton in the LG 2 playoff Final. That kicks off at 1:45 PM EDT
The tedious Henderson off and the equally tedious Borini on.
Borini on for Jordan Henderson.
Exactly, Bob.
I didn't expect Bradford City in the playoffs. They were midtable well out of the playoffs when they lost in the Capital One Cup Final. They must have had a strong run after that final.
UWS picked Wigan for the drop and MUR did not.
Simple as that.
Neither of us had Spurs in the top four that is moot
It is all down to Relegation
We both had Swansea and Reading
He has sotton and i had Wigan
Gibson makes another monster block from Gerrard.
Spurs has nothing to do with it then!
He will win if neither go down, correct?
That is correct of Sotton go down then I definitely win.It could happen.Adkins or not!
It's going to be mighty tight for both of you at the top.
Correct, UWS.
COME ON YOU LATICS!
A free kick from Stevie G is headed wide by Agger
Why can't teams go out and play attractive football!!
Well - what was that? Mirallas seemed to be impeded by Enrique!
CORRECT UWS
COME ON YOU LATICS.... to go down!
Suarez asked the bartender for a Michael Oliver Martini!
Stay on your feet, he might have gotten to that one
Jelavic is in the building after all, and it about to make an appearance.
LATICS TO DEFEAT THOSE SWANS!
Gerrard round Timmy but went too wide
Corner
Nealry 1-0 as Sturrdige put through Stevie G . He rounded Timmy but he had a shot cleared off the line.
It's a shame that I want Wigan to go down now!
Cup Final is going to be a real distraction!
The PPP run in is more feisty than the Merseyside Derby.
Jelavic to come on and score
Mirallas off for Jelavic.
Mirallis on for Jelavic
Sorry. Off for Jelavic
Surprisingly, Suarez isn't eating something is the club's box!
Come on Niki, get a freaking goal!
If the PPP is tied then the tie breaker should be the person who submitted first.
Wonder if Spurs make the top four and both of lose points for it... is some one else in the picture?
Surely Luis is having a nibble on something. Maybe a finger sandwich or two.
I don't think so because we only lose two points and we're further ahead than that.
No, the tie breaker should be which would cost the least for postage of the Shield!
Then an Oliver Martini must help quench his thirst!
I guess we will have to do what they did with another certain shield back in the day
If the Charity Shield match was tied, they shared it for six months. We would have to share for 5 each
That's discrimination, UWS. Bob doesn't believe in that!
Sounds fair, UWS.
I would think Bob would say that if no one wins the Shield outright, the previous champ just keeps hold of it!
Skrtel for Downing. WHY put on an extra central defender in a Merseyside Derby that is 0-0? Surely both teams want to win for bragging rights if nothing else.
True - AZ Kicker and Simon will get 8 points for a Citeh Cup win but both are too far back. AZ picked Spurs but Simon didn't.
I think he would go for six months each.
THROW YOURSELF AT IT
No - the Shield should keep moving around the collective. I've enjoyed having it on my wall.
Any points for Tom or Matt.. they're close
Not close enough - they're about 10 points back.
A strange schedule next Saturday. Villa vs Chelsea at 7:45 and the Cup Final at 12:15.Absolutely nothing at 10 AM.Why isn't the Cup Final at that time? Why so late?
The thing that killed Tom off is that he picked Aguero rather than RVP as Golden Boot. You can give him stick for that for me, eh?
BREAKING CHELSEA TEAM NEWS - Man Utd v Chelsea (1600 BST)
Demba Ba starts instead of Fernando Torres for Chelsea as Juan Mata, Oscar and Ashley Cole return to the starting line-up.
Quite right, Bob!
OH I HAVE ALREADY!!
WHAT A FORTY-TWO CARAT PLONKER!!!
Raffa said he would fight SAF! What a numpty!
Actually - Matt might get close with a Dortmund win in the Champions League. He's on 29 points now. He didn't pick Wigan for the drop.
Nice one, UWS!
But Matt has to stay awake for the CL final in order to win, right?
Should I arrange for a helicopter to fly between Glenville and Harlingen with the Shield?
Time to roll the dice Moyes, the future of the franchise is on the line.
Talking about that Dortmund and Bayern drew 1-1 in a league match yesterday. It seemed a feistty affair. Jurgen Klopp and Mattais Sammer , the Bayern sporting director had to be separated on the touchline.Raffinha sent off for Bayern and head butted the person he fouled while going off.
They don't want any games to be played at the same time as the Cup Final
They don't want fans have to be on the road from games and miss the Cup Final
The kick off time will allow enough times for the fans of the first game to get back home to watch the Final
A helicopter to land at Valley International Airport. sounds lie a plan
That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.I guess that would give me time to run errands.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
That's why he thinks he should get more points for choosing the Champions of Europe than some bloke that scores ten goals off his bum
Is that a sign that the CL Final will be feisty? It ended Bayern's run of fourteen consecutive wins.I think A CL ref will be stricter and they won't let as much crap as they do in the Bundesliga.
RVP A pain in the Arse?
One of the worst ever Merseyside Derbies finishes 0-0.Where was Mark Viduka?
Just been delivered some sausage, potato and pancakes!
Lovely!
Decided to put lemon and sugar on the pancakes
Disappointing draw. Everton needed three points. One is not good enough for Europe.
Dundee take the lead vs Aberdeen and may live to survive yet another week.
Correct Someone, The Toffees are mathematically alive, but basically out of it. All they can do is hope for Spurs to have a late season implosion,
Chelsea can implode as well, starting today.
Hope so
GET INVOLVED
Jonathan Ridgway: "Well that Liverpool vs Everton was thoroughly unentertaining, I hope Utd vs Chelsea make up for it."
Louis Baker-Stroud: "The final whistle woke me up."
James Woodcock: "EFC were poor, no imagination or craft aside from lump it to Fellaini or Anichebe - at least LFC tried to play football."
At least we're not on the west coast and wake up for this match!
Matt just commented... oh my god.. it's Gus Johnson!

Not exactly a strong side put out by SAF
Spurs fans won't be pleased with him
Scholes on the bench
Scholsey is back
I was thinking the same. I was hoping for a stronger side. Poor by Raff saying he would fight SAF on the touchline.
Not liking the two midfields today
Anderson Cleverley and Jones
v
Oscar, Lampard and Mata
The Ginja Ninja hasn't played in ages.I thought he was getting ready for retirement. Enough matches for a Prem medal?
Here come the teams
Chelsea's is more attacking.
According to the sports show on FSC, SAF will be missing the beginning of next season due to hip surgery that he will have this summer.Wishing him a speedy recovery
Rumors that Raffa , the Chelsea interim, may be off to Schalke as their new boss.
Ready to get going!
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I WANT A WIN
I'm back from a reviving shower. I needed that badly after the snoozefest this morning. Worst derby match ever. Hoping for some goals, even if they are off RVP's bum.
Sir Ian Wright and the horrible Gus Johnson doing the commentary
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Bloody hell - it Gus and Ian Wright, Wright, Wright. This could get interesting.
Quite Wright.
Raffa Benitez to Schalke? I hear they are interested in him.
GET INVOLVED
Mark from Sheffield on text: "If Chelsea win, Champions League qualification is all but theirs. Man U would have a greater chance of signing Bale in the summer. Fergie picks a weakened team. Coincidence?"
PHEW Os Car crossed and Demba Ba missed a sitter.
COME ON MAN UNITED!
i AGREE WITH M,ARK AND YOU SATED THE SAME BUIT FOR bALE.
United are going to lose this!
