Real Madrid v. Dortmund Live!
Nothing better on our anniversary than settling in for a top notch European match. It's Real v. Dortmund in the semi-final of the Champions League live from the Bernabeu. Real start with a three goal deficit but anything can happen with that man Skippy on the pitch. Join me if you're watching.

Real get us underway. It goes without saying that they will need an early goal to give them some confidence that they can turn this tie around.
Team line-ups for this afternoon's match:
Real - Lopez, Essien, Varane, Ramos, Coentrao, Modric, Alonso, DiMaria, Ozil, Ronaldo, Higuain.
Subs - Casillas, Pepe, Khedira, Kaka, Benzema, Albiol, Morata.
Dortmund - Weidenfeller, Piszczelk, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelz, Gundrogan, Bender, Blaszczyk, Gotze, Reus, Lewandowski.
Subs - Langerak, Kehl, Leitner, Sahin, Grosskreuz, Schieber, Santana
Great early chance for Higuain, well saved by the Dortmund keeper Weidenfeller.
Great start from the Madrid side; they're predictably giving it a right go, perhaps just to save face.
Real creating some real chances here for Ronaldo and then Higuain again.
Well - that was the biggest chance of the night. Lewandowski got behind Ramos but hit Lopez.
And now Ronaldo has done the same thing!
End to end!
Gotze has a problem and is going to have to come out. Grosskreuz coming on. Not nearly the threat but could be useful as a holding player.
Oh - Ozil misses a big chance there. Shanked it wide.
Good afternoon, Bob. Great to join you on LOB BDay!
Still 0-0 at the Bernabeu and Jose appears to be frustrated.
So Dortmund have survived the first quarter of an hour here at the Bernabeu, but goodness knows how they've done it. Real have had three or four big, big chances to score.
Afternoon, MUR - happy anniversary!
Skippy cuts in and shoots harmlessly wide.
Cheers BD. Happy Anniversary to you.A great creation.
Hard to see Real getting back into this unless they score soon.
Dortmund on the attack and Real blocked two shots.
Coentrao won a free kick on the far left. Real take it short and keep possession until Dortmund counter.
I am home and Matt said Real could have been four up
Coentrao is booked for a foul.
I agree with Matt - some really wasteful finishing by the Whites.
Good afternoon,UWS.I missed the first few minutes, but Bob said Real had some chances. Most of those were early on.
Subotic with some blatant obstruction there. I don't know why referees don't give indirect free kicks for that any more.
Real needed and early goal because it is tough to see them score three without reply in an hour.
Fans complain about Dortmund wasting time
Real are the first ones to do it!! Don't complain... if you do it yourself
It's true - the Dortmund defenders looked a bit overwhelmed in the first ten minutes. Ronaldo could have had a brace, Higuain one and Ozil one for sure.
Absolutely, UWS! Jose's teams are a master of that science!
I'd be disappointed if Dortmund didn't try to play at all. I don't expect Bayern to sit back and do nothing tomorrow. They could easily beat Barca on their patch.
It is the same with divers!
The teams that dive the most complain about divers against them
Millwall vs Palace is still 0-0
They could have had scored a couple of times since I have been home. They blew breaks with the wrong ball
Sounds like Real and Jose yet again.
Real blew some breaks shortly before you arrived home.
I would not be surprised to see Bayern win at the Nou Camp. They should win the CL and could have a rematch vs Chelsea in the Super Cup in August
Iker Casillas has the look of a player whose team is about to be eliminated.,
How on earth can a World and European Champions Spanish #1 keeper be the sub on this team?
Naughty by Modric on Reaus and a lecture from Webbie.
He ticked off Jose big time.I think there was a clash of egos.
Come on, Palace!
Dortmund win a corner off of Coentrao
The corner is easily cleared.
Makes no sense - you play your best XI regardless of ego.
I second that Bob. Plenty of police in that SE London Derby.,
It's the same at work so that it is why it was so easy for me to determine.
The police are working over time. One more reason to relegate Millwall (along with Not a Big Club) to L1.
Higuain offside from a decent attack and another opportunity wasted.
Sounds like a plan. I'm all for it.
This isn't anywhere near done
Dortmund scored three in the second half... Real can do the same
Real will need to significantly improve their passing in order to score three.Their final ball has been lacking.
I can't see Real getting three back. No way.
A chance for Dortmund... not good!!
I've proved Wednesday are a big club
Bigger than 75 other league clubs at least
Higuain flagged offside. That was close.
I can't stand the whiny Spanish clubs
Higuain doesn't really have the pace to be a top quality striker IMHO.
Gundigan is booked for a foul on Ozil.
Not 75... 65
No chance, UWS - push off!
Two minutes of stoppage time. Lars Bender goes into the book
That wasn't a foul.. Ron when down... will CR make them pay
HORRENDOUS ATTEMPT
Ronaldo....into Row Z!
You push off Fish Face!!
USELESS ATTEMPT OF A BREAK!!!
Oh - Reus had a chance to be played in there but Grosskreuz overcooked the ball.
Half time
Half way there for BD
Still not over
Webby whistles for half-time. Dortmund will be reasonably happy with that so far.
Bigger club than West Brom, Swansea, Fulham, Stoke and Wigan all in the Prem
Goalless at half time at The Den
Pretty cagey stuff from both teams, eh? More inaccurate passing from Dortmund than in their previous matches.
Here's a bit of trivia I read (in a book UWS). Skippy played for you lot in #7. When he moved to Madrid, #7 was available. They gave him #9. Why?
Good trivia question, Gooner - thanks for joining in. I have no clue.
Good afternoon, Gooner. How have you been?
We're away again at the Bernabeu now.
I do not know the answer to the trivia question, but a great question.
Ramos is penalized for a blatant push there.
Gooner will have enjoyed that pass by ex-Spurs schemer Modric - straight out of play!
Who is a fish face?Where is my rod and reel.
Gooner will claim that the pass came straight from SFL.
Something to do with Raul?
What's the point of playing Michael Essien as a right back? He doesn't know how to defend, as he showed there.
That would have been my guess - that Raul was #7 but Gooner said in the question that the number was available. Dunno....
oooh, off the underside of the bar by Lewey!!!
Respect for Raul!
Oh - Lewandowski rockets one off the crossbar and out. Definitely didn't cross the line.
He really caught hold of that one. Lewandowski on the way to Bayern as well - cor!
How did did four goal Lewandowski miss that chance ? He shot against the bar with just Diego Lopez to beat. You would have bet the mortgage on him scoring then
Real have been quieter this half so far. They've got to get a move on quickly!
That would have clinched a spot for Dortmund in the final.
I thought that was a better effort than the two that proceeded it. He should have a brace at least. This should really be a high-scoring affair.
I think Raul is correct. I think I remember something about Raul being mentioned when CR 7 moved to real
Will Lewnadowski and Goetze tank the final just to please their future employers?
Kaka warming up - why?
Did he want it because of DiStefano
I've been wondering that myself. Might be an idea to drop them.
Still 0-0 from the Lion's Den.
The answer to the Skippy quiz is that even before he got there, but that it was pretty clear he was Bernabeu bound, the Real suits kept walking by stalls with counterfeit #7 Madrid shirts with his name on them for sale. They wanted 100% of the revenue so they pulled the switch.
Apparently when Beckham went, they allowed La Marca to publicly speculate that #10 was up for grabs, but he ended up in #23 instead. Two fingers shown the counterfeiters again.
I'm reading "Football Men" a collection of Simon Kuper's columns and the best bog book, ever.
Surely Bayern have all but won the Cl if that is the case. A rematch with Chelsea in the Super Cup in August
Kaka On for Cotnrao
Some attacking options here - Kaka and Benzema on.
A fascinating question and a fascinating story indeed. I would have never guessed that.
Still 0-0 in the SE London Derby. Would love a Palace goal right about now.
I would have brought on Benzema, but not Kaka.
One goal could still change it all
If they score, they'll score two and then...
Nice one, Gooner!
An hour gone, now. Anyone still think that Real can score three in half an hour?
Nice one Steve
Wow - what a save by Lopez! Kept his side in it.
Lewnadowski was holding his mouth . It appeared that the nasty Sergio Ramos elbowed him and the great Webby typically missed it.
WHAT A SAVE!!!!!
DORTMUND SHOULD HAVE IN THE FINAL!!!
Why did he try to put it toward the keeper... put it in the empty net
Hey, I think our resident statto MUR is a better judge of the answer to this question than Kuper is.
Raul was #7 and left in 2010. Skippy got there in 2009. I don't think Kuper can be trusted over MUR.
One MUR, there's only one MUR, one M-U-RRRRR, there's only one MUR.
I refer to my last comment
This match should be 5-3 or something.
Nice save by Lopez by Gundrogan off a great run and pass from Reus.
Matt's having a cow right now!!!
Is Mourinho going to Chelsea?
Agreed, Gooner.
No one has been booked to miss the Final yet, right?
I reckon Mourinho's on his way to Eastlands. Arse and Chelski might fight over Jurgen Klopp.
Another chance for BD... they will surely score!!
Correct Gooner. CR left Man Yoo in 2009 after a terrible performance in the 2009 CL Final. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
The wags on the Guardian pod were calling this the "Barnyard Derby," as it's Klopp v. Moo (aka Mourinho).
I think Klopp would do a great job in the Prem. Isn't Jose headed back to Chelsea. Klopp to the Arse????
Not Chelsea?
Kloppety Klopp!
Just today, there's speculation that we're in for Jogi Low if Wenger takes off for PSG. Subject to verification by MUR, of course.
I wish it was Klopp, but that would be more perfect than I can wish for.
No - but Sergio Ramos is certainly riding a fine line. As MUR stated, if Webby's eyesight were better, he'd be in trouble.
Bringing on a defensive mid when you need three goals... that's Matt's comment
You want Arsene to go?
The pointless Xavi Alonso is off and Khedira is on. Lots of firepower for Real now. If they can't score with a side including Ronaldo, Higuain, Ozil, Khedira, DiMaria and Benzema, when can they score!
Khedira's not really a proper defensive middie - he's more attacking than that. They've certainly got more than enough firepower now.
I think there's a better chance of snow in July in Harlingen than three Real goals.I agree with Matt.
Ronny tries a toe poke... only hits row N this time
Skippy tries a toe-poke that flies well over the bar.
I've been saying that all night. I didn't fancy Real coming back - and I don't fancy Barca tomorrow. Tiki taka is dead!
Sorry Gooner , but I did not hear anything about Low to Arsenal or Wenger to PSG. They are not happy with Ancelotti? PSG haven't won a title in ages.Sorry I was not able to be of assistance with those proposed changes.
Only for Klopp. I don't fancy anyone else. And you have to admit that Dortmund play the same quick passing high tempo football. Wenger seems unable to replicate his early success by buying rough diamonds, and Klopp does, while not being shy of buying world class quality in a competitive market.
20 minutes for BD to hold on to make their first final since they beat United 1-0 in both legs in 97... beat Juve in the Final to boot
What is this talk about Wenger having a job at Arsenal for life and "In Wenger We Trust." What does our resident Gooner have to say about that?
The Wenger to PSG is in today's Guardian rumors page. Same with Low to Arsenal. But we want Klopp instead.
Paul Lambert was a key member of the '97 Dortmund side.
I saw the Wenger to PSG rumor
I agree that Klopp would be a perfect fit at Arsenal. What about those Wenger quotes?
Having the fifth member of Duran Duran at Arsenal would certainly polish up the fashion sense of the likes of Jack Wilshere.
You'd have to put that down to what's being posted on the walls of the AFC Kremlin. I don't think we could attract Klopp either with the current state of the playing staff and the lack of interest in buying world class players, or by offering him any thing like the financial package that other clubs would be willing to offer.
Wenger for life, most probably.
Anyone else shocked by that 6-1 scoreline for Villa yesterday? Wallop!
Another chance missed by Lewey!!!
Lewandowski certainly doesn't have his Billy Boots on tonight. Another wasted effort.
Shocked but delighted by the Villa score. I heard Paolo threw a major tantrum when Sessignon was sent off.
Watched most of the match
Looked good the second half
I hated FSC drowning out the Villa Park fans.... it must have been so loud but it was all muffled.
Martin Tyler didn't sound like he was in the stadium!
Webby misses a handball there by Hummels.
Sorry to hear that Gooner, but that is probably the case unless he moves to PSG. I am not sure why they would get rid of Ancelotti, who has done an excellent job.
GET INVOLVED
Thomas: "Honestly, who expected Dortmund to be in the Champions League final? I know I didn't."
A certain guy name MATTHEW NOCITO.. that's who!!
Senor elbows finally goes into the book.
I don't think PDC reacted much at all for the red card
Quite calm
A wasted Dortmund free kick is headed out and a foul is called.
I believe you. It was stated online, but they fabricate stories.
Down to ten minutes now - even UWS must have given up hope in a Real come-back now.
Again, BD better not concede. I know that they need three but... if they score.. who knows they could score on their next attack ala BD in the quarters... they one more needed
Solskjaer scored 4 after coming on in the 81st min
Khedira has been booked as it is going horribly wrong for Real/
Ramos won't be available to throw the CL cup under the bus even if Real get busy and score 4 unanswered now. What a plank he is.
Skippy. Has he evolved into a big-game bottler? Will he win anything of note again in his career? The Abu Dhabi league golden boot in 2017? Captain of the winning Anzi Makalacha Russian league winners 2016?
I knew that UWs had not written off Real.I think they can score six in the final ten minutes!
I don't want a Real comeback
BUT... it could happen
1979 Cup Final
Here's the goal
GOAL! Real get one goal back. Benzema!
Will Skippy succumb to the pressure of playing in the 2032 tiddly winks World Cup Final or will he fold in yet another big match?
If they score from this cross.. then what!!
Real need two more. It could happen.
Modric wins a Real free kick
I reckon that Skippy has always been a big-game bottler. I can't remember him really turning it on for either United or Real in a big match when it counted. And his career with Portugal - the less said the better. Couldn't even win the European Championship medal at home - against Greece!
SEE... they're going to score again!!!
The free kick from Ozil is headed away
Take a wager on it, UWS?
Five minutes and stoppage to score two - no chance.
That goal from Benzema was the first goal scored on LOB's Seventh birthday. Better late than never.
All hands to the pump now for Dortmunders.
BET ON IT ,UWS!
You guys think it is over too soon... it might well be but STILL A CHANCE
There is an exception to the rule.Skippy scored a header vs Chelsea in the 2008 CL Final
Man City QPR?
The profligate Lewandowski going off now. Kehl on in his place. Just wasting time now.
Benzema with a shot saved... is it going to happen
UWS is too smart for that.
Seb Kehl is on for Lewnadowski as Klopp attempts to hold on to the lead.
AGAIN!!!
I CALLED IT
ONE MORE GOAL
I hate it!!!
GOAL! Ramos scores another consolation goal. That shows you that you should never just sit back. Dortmund need an outlet to waste some time.
GOAL !!! 2-0 REAL! GREAT FINISH BY RAMOS
One minute plus stoppage time.
I'm looking forward to seeing Jose's face in about five minutes time.
This will make it a lot of added minutes
I would guess five
Great noise coming from the real fans now.
The Spanish crowd booing... again.. they would be doing i more than anyone
A Dortmund player being stretchered off. How much stoppage time?
I forgot about Santana. He's excellent. Why hasn't he featured before now?
Dortmund have blown this with all their chances
No less than 6 minutes, I bet.
They finally get Bender off and get a sub on. Webby should be adding another couple of minutes.
Balscycowski being stretchered off.Felipe Santana, an attacking middie, on in his place.
Still no idea of added time
