A Bit of a Rubbish Saturday of Football
All of the big matches this weekend are on "Super Sunday," which means that Saturday is...well, not so super. So I'm highlighting the Leeds v. QPR clash, which is at the police-enforced insane hour of 7:15am EST. That's followed by a doddle for City at home to Hull. And then pure tosh at 10am. See you early doors, lads!
356 Comments:
Morning, boys - I'm back to follow the Leeds v. QPR and then Citeh v. Hull match.
The team line-ups are in for the early one:
Leeds - Kenny, Peltier, Wootton, Pearce, Warnock, Green, Austin, Murphy, Murphy, McCormack, Varney, Hunt. Subs - Drury, Lees, Ashdown, Tonge, Smith, Diouf, Poleon.
QPR - Green, Simpson, Dunne, Onuoha, Hill, Wright-Phillips, Barton, Henry, O'Neil, Austin, Johnson. Subs - Yun, Jenas, Hollett, Zamora, Murphy, Faurlin, Sharif.
Wahay - we're away at Elland Road. MOT!
An early speculative shot from Ross. You can tell he's feeling confident, having scored four goals already.
Paul Green now with a shot from the outside of the box that's always rising, but good pressure from the Good Guys early doors.
SWP flicks on a header that Kenny picks up easily.
Phew - Joey Barton has the ball in the net but he was in an offside position. Close thing there.
On the replay, Barton was level so we really are lucky to still be on level terms.
QPR starting to impose themselves a bit.
Oh - Rudy Austin really caught that shot but just bent over the bar.
Ross on the turn balloons a shot well over. Brighter signs for us in the last five minutes.
The cross comes in but only the diminutive SWP is there to meet it. Barely gets a touch. No wonder he's only scored one goal in two seasons.
Oh - Ross found Noel Hunt in the box but he just could direct his header past Rob Green.
Good morning Bob. How was your week? I am up for the early match to enjoy the pleasure of your company.
Morning, MUR - I've got Gooner and Steve sleeping in here at The Cottage. Thanks for joining me.
Citeh and Hull about to get started in five minutes:
Citeh - Hart, Zaba, Nastastic, Lescott, Kolarov, Toure, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Aguero, Silva, Dzeko.
Hull - McGregor, Elmohamady, Chester, Davies, Figueroa, Livermore, Fatty, Koren, Aluko, Brady, Graham.
My pleasure . How is Steve? He must be having a laugh every time he hears that Ted Lasso is the Spurs manager
The Good Guys vs the Bad Guys finally loaded. Coffee finally brewed.
Well in, mate. The Gooner is doing well. We were up late so he's having a lie-in.
Citeh vs the Tigers has kicked off.
COME ON YOU TIGERS!
Ta, Bob.I hope he enjoys his lie in. Just as United do, the Gunners have a big match tomorrow.
Citeh and Hull have kicked off - I've got that one on on the telly. Since the boys are still in bed, I'm continuing with the Good Guys v. Bad Guys on the laptop.
I am alone with the pets , so it's a male only house until Sunday.
Big shout for a foul against Rudy. I think it was outside the box. Not called anyway.
I have that match on the computer, but there is no volume. I am surprised to see empty seats at ER. That makes me question the need for a noon kickoff.
I've got the second link on. The first one was French language commentary. This one's from Al Jazeera but English commentary.
Brucey will not be the most popular person at the Etihad. Nor will Robbie Brady, the former United trainee, who scored the winner vs Norwich last week.
Hart catches a second Hull corner after the first one went out for another
Leeds win a corner off of FarTON BarTON.
Good pressure from us earns a corner. Come on now!
BUGGER!! Sone Aluko, the former Rangers player, was through on goal with just Hart to beat , and shot wide. Will they get another chance like that?
And another off Green.....
Probably not - that was a gilt-edged chance for Aluko. I don't think he's known as a prolific goalscorer.
Leeds with another corner while Maynor Figueroa gifts possession to Citeh near hos box and Citeh won a corner.
Great save by McGregor from Jerko off a corner from Navas then the next corner from Navas was cleared and Citeh have a long spell of Possession.
Oh - Hull have it in the net now but it's flagged offside. Great chance. Brucey is frustrated.
BUGGER!!!! a superb cross from Robbie Brady and Danny Graham has a goal disallowed for offside and he was just off. Superb volley.
Aguero wins a free kick inches outside the box.
Oh - Lescott has a header tipped over by McGregor.
McGregor superbly tips over a header from Lescott.
Lescott volleys wide off the corner from Navas.
Oh dear from SWP....
A win at the Etihad would be a feather in Brucey's cap after years of playing for United.
OH! A free kick from Fatty was headed away and Robert Koren volleyed just wide from long range . Hart beaten.
I missed that from SWP. It still says 0-0. SWP should be dangerous at this level.
It certainly would. Citeh didn't look so clever against another promoted side Cardiff last weekend, but this is surely one they'll expect to win.
Into stoppage time at ER.
There goes the whistle, then. I'm off to put some coffee on.
That made me feel better about swapping the position of the two Manc clubs in the PPP at the eleventh hour.
Halftime and 0-0 at ER and the leader of the Bad Guys has plenty to say to the officials.
SHUT IT BarTON!
I am back from the loo and Figueroa booked for a foul on Navas.
Fernandinho booked for a foul on Aluko as a each team has a player in the book.
Danny Graham is down on a Hull counter and Fernandinho, who was just booked appeared to be guilty of a cheap shot off the ball. He needs to be careful as Phil Dowd is one of the stricter Prem refs and that could have been an early bath.
Brucey looks none too pleased.
Aluko is in the wars as Zaba is called for hefty climb on the former Rangers player.
McGregor clears a poor back pass.
Aguero dribbles past three players in the Hull box, but runs out of space and the ball falls kindly to McGregor, another former Rangers player.
Brucey is definitely not pleased with the officiating.
Brucey continues to complain about the officiating and Phil Dowd sprints across the pitch to remind him to shut it after a lengthy debate.
The second half is underway from ER.
MOT!
Davie Moyes in attendance at the Etihad and the announcer said he will find out what a match vs L:iverpool means to the United fans. Surely he must know about heated rivalries vs Liverpool from years of managing in the Merseyside Derby. I think he is completely aware.
An early corner to the Bad Guys at ER that is headed out for another. Barton the Bad Guy of all Bad Guys taking the corners.
Lost my link while I was in the kitchen. Trying to get it up and running again.
The corner from Barton headed out and a foul is called. Happy Harry doesn't look happy.
Sorry about that Bob. I hope you get it up in tis vital early season fixture.
The free kick from Navas headed out by Fatty/
Got it back now.
That looked like a handball in the box and should have been a penalty top Leeds. Now the Bad Guys counter.
Well done mate.
I think the Bad Guys got away with one.
James Chester cuts out a cross from Jerko for a Citeh corner and Yaya heads over a corner from Navas.
Gooner just roused in time to finish off this match with me.
Pelligrini felling the pressure of being Citeh manager as his body language indicates.
Good morning Gooner.
Good morning Gooner.
It appears that Brian gave a ticking to Dominic Polleon and the youngster looked none too pleased.
Smith for Hunt and Polleon for Varney as Brian was giving instructions, not a ticking off prior to the double substitution./
Smith for Hunt and Polleon for Varney as Brian was giving instructions, not a ticking off prior to the double substitution./
Two minutes of stoppage time at the Etihad.
Ole's from the travelling Hull fans. Pelligrini will have an important talk to deliver at the half.
Halftime and 0-0 at the Etihad. Citeh will be none too pleased as Hull City were the better team.
a decent change for the Whites as Polleon's weak effort was easily saved by Rob Green.
Gooner must not be pleased with the CL draw. A tough one for the Gunners.
Robbie Earle says that Citeh lack zip and energy. The same old problems from the end of last season?
Back from fixing brekkies and still 0-0 at ER. Barton and Austin were receiving treatment, but both are ready to resume and shake hands.QPR make a change as Henry is on for Faurlin.
QPR win a corner off of Warnock, Not Evil Neil
Smith heads a corner from Barton out for another. The next corner from Barton is headed out then his return cross is fisted away by Paddy Kenny, the former QPR player.
Negredo is a halftime sub for Citeh. Not sure who came off. The second half is underway
BUGGER! The Bad Guys take the lead. A header from a free kick was fumbled by Paddy Kenny ,there was a mad scramble in the box and Clint Hill, of all people, finished at the far post.
Sorry Bob.
Nice cross from Silva and Negredo heads wide when he should have given Citeh the lead.
IT'S LEEDS TIME!
MOT!
The final roll of the of the dice for Brian as Spitty is on for Paul Green. Minus one for the Green count. Hope it's a minimum of plus one for the Leeds goal difference.
Danny Graham shoots over from a poor back header by Zaba. In all honesty. It was a difficult chance and he was triple teamed.
QPR win a corner.
Finally , a decent Citeh move and a cross from Navas is cut out for a corner.
Finally , a decent Citeh move and a cross from Navas is cut out for a corner.
QPR counter off a Leeds slip, but it comes to nothing.
Polleon straight at Rob Green from long range
Clint Hill is booked for a poor foul.
Oh dear - while I was in the kitchen fixing brekkies, bloody QPR have scored through Clint Hill. Grr....
The free kick is too high resulting in a wasted free kick
Jenas on for Andy Johnson.
Sorry Bob. I know the last thing you want is to be behind from a goal by Clint Hill and I am sorry to say that it was poor defending off a QPR free kick.
Come on, you Whites!
Jason Pearce heads wide from a free kick and Nastasic is booked for a foul on Aluko.
Cheers, mate. I appreciate the effort but this one seems lost. I was hoping for a draw.
Barton wins a free kick
Sorry mate. Into stoppage time.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
Great defending by Hull on a Citeh counter.
A nasty clash between Koren and Kolorov as Citeh get a free kick. Koren is booked.
Got to get the ball up the other end, lads. Come on!
nASRI ABOUT TO COME ON FOR sILVA. interesting!
Decent break there through Smith, left Poleon to shoot. Deflected out for a corner.
Pump it up!
Polleon has a shot blocked for a corner and a header from Lescott off a free kick is cut out for a corner that is cleared.
Ger it in the box!
GOAL! Negredo pops up at the backpost with a striker's goal there.
Nasri is on for Silva as the halftime sub headed Citeh into the lead.
Oh - Rudy Austin hits a stonking drive on the half volley and it clips the angle. Wow!
And that's that - we've lost that one.
OH! ABout an inch from Austin. The last chance for the good guys.
BUGGER! It was and it finishes
Good Guys 0 Bad Guys 1
Sorry Bob.
A local derby in the Conference and pointless, newly promoted Chester are surprisingly two up at Wrexham early in the second half.
Another surprise as it is Dundee United 0 Celtic 0 in the second half. The Hoops did have en energy draining CL playoff in midweek and may be fatigued.
Stephen Quinn, the former Blade, on for Aluko.
Citeh may be one up, but are making hard work of a home match vs a newly promoted side.
Curtis Davies with a nasty foul on Navas just outside the box.
The free kick from Navas is headed straight to McGregor by Nastasic.
George Boyd, signed from Young Fergie in January, is on for Robert Koren as the Tigers have an extra striker.
The final roll of the Citeh dice as LUFC Academy is on for Aguero.
I think the halftime sub was Negredo for Jerko. That one sure was successful.
Quinn straight at Hart after his initial effort was blocked by Zaba. Citeh win a corner off of James Chester
A decent LUFC Academy corner was headed wide by Lescott.
Fernandinho, already in the book, with a nasty foul on Quinn.
Hart punches away a free kick by Fatty that he should have easily caught.
Seventeen wins and a draw for Citeh in their last eighteen home matches vs newly promoted teams. The Tigers should not feel ashamed.
Nice through ball by Fatty, but great slide tackle by Kolorov on Boyd for a Hull City corner. The corner from Brady is headed away
Danny Graham heads a great cross by El Mohammedy straight to Hart.
Hart punches away a cross he might have caught.
Pelligrini pacing as this match has yet to be clinched.
James Chester fouls Nasri near the D.
GOAL!!! NOW ITR IS DONE AND DUSTED AS YAYA SCORES A SUPERB CURLING FREE KICK OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BAR. NOW 2-0 CITEH AS WE ARE CLOSE TO STOPPAGE TIME./
Three minutes of stoppage time as Celtic take a late lead at Dundee United.
Curtis Davies heads out a cross from LUFC Academy for a late corner.
A cross off the corner goes straight to Negredo and that's it as Citeh win 2-0, but were far from impressive. Pelligrini sportingly congratulates for Brucey for a decent Tigers performance.
Good morning everyone. Pleased to see Baines and Fellaini in the starting XI today.
Top class free kick by Toure.
And Celtic pick up three.
Back from taking Sparky walkies and just in time for the 3 PM kickoffs.
Good morning Someone. Celtic grinding out a 1-0 win and a late winner as it was on Wednesday in the CL playoff match.
Good morning Someone. Celtic grinding out a 1-0 win and a late winner as it was on Wednesday in the CL playoff match.
Chester City win 0-2 at Wrexham in a local derby as they pick up their first points of the season.
Wednesday was amazing. Tough, tough group draw for them, again.
Game on in Cardiff.
They're off from Cardiff as they host Everton. Someone will be eager to watch this one.
It sure is. Sorry to say it, but it will be a challenge just to finish third and earn a Europa League spot in the knockout round.
Mirallis got his hair from Royston Drenthe today.
Roberto Martinez will not be popular with Cardiff fans because he is a former Swansea player and manager.
Some early goals. Coventry take the lead at Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers take the lead vs Northants. Cheltenham take the lead at Bury
Scunny take the lead vs Newport County
Bury tie it up vs Cheltenham. Back at the races!
Barnsley take the lead vs Huddersfield and Forest take the lead at Wigan.
Great block by Medel from Ross Barkley. Hair Bear crowded out on a corner and it's a goal kick. Hair Bear upset top the delight of the Cardiff fans.
Everton earn a corner on a nifty pass from Pienaar to a charging Barkley, the kid is not afraid to shoot. Comes to naught.
Bury have now come from behind to take a 2-1 lead vs Cheltenham
A nasty elbow by the vile Bellamy on Baines. Caught it in the chops and the linesman was just a few feet away. How did he miss it? I expect a three match suspension for Bellamy which will give him a lengthy rest as the international break is around the corner.
Someone will not be pleased about that.
Burnley take the lead at Derby. wigan tie it up vs Forest.
Cardiff with their first corner.
A corner from Bellamy is headed out for another
It's only an elbow if the ref sees it. Ugh.
Cardiff close on a corner, Howard with a tough save
Timmy fumbles a corner from Whittingham. Distin clears and Kim shoots wide.
League One Leaders , Orient, take the lead at Colchester.
That is true Someone, but the FA will look at a video of the incident and will probably find the nasty Bellamy guilty of violent conduct. That should result in a three match suspension.
Bury now lead Cheltenham 3-1.
Inverness Callie take the lead vs troubled Hearts
Ref is not seeing any part of Cardiff's arms today as they missed a hand ball right outside the box.
Everton controlling the ball, but typically cannot get through. Jelavic invisible so far.
Rangers lead East Barney Fife 2-0.
Cardiff are not pushovers as Citeh discovered last Sunday.
Seamus Coleman booked for a foul on Kim on the break.
Coleman gets a deserved yellow after sticking a leg out on Kim.
Crawley take a surprise lead at Young Fergie.
Stevenage take the lead vs Bradford City
The Gils take the lead vs Bristol City
Nice quickness by Distin to get through a charging Cardiff and head the ball to Howard.
Baines with a nice free kick that is headed well over by Mirallis' hair.
Medel with a foul on Coleman and should have been booked. Mirallis heads well over from a free kick taken by Baines.
Medel with a foul on Coleman and should have been booked. Mirallis heads well over from a free kick taken by Baines.
Salisbury Steak take the lead vs Halifax.
Everton getting the ball into the box, but once there some dreadful passing denies any offense.
And Mirallis just missed a good chance at a header.
It was a great chance off a great cross from Jelavic.
Nasty turn by Ben Turner and it appears that his day is over as he appears to have injured his ankle.
Blackburn two up vs Bolton in a local derby between two former Prem teams.
Charlton take the lead vs the Foxes and Bournemouth take the lead at Donny in a battle of newly promoted teams.
Ipswich take the lead at Brum.
Burnley two up at Derby.
Not a single Prem goal in the 3 PM matches.
Wigan have come from behind to take a 2-1 lead vs Forest
Colchester tie it up vs League One leaders , Orient.
Bogus foul on Barkley, all ball, not Kim plus a booking. Come on now!
Ross Barkley booked for foul on Kim on what looked a shoulder charge. The ref wasn't even going to give a free kick was a few feet away and was overruled by the linesman. Who is in the charge of this match. Poor refereeing.
Rotherham United take the lead at Notts County.
A poor Baines corner, but Everton keep possession.
