Champions League Quarter-finals!
Hold on to your hats, lads - it's Champions League Quarter-finals time, starting today. And the matches don't get any bigger than Bayern Munich coming to Old Trafford to meet United. Sure - Bayern just wrapped up their Bundesliga title with months to spare while Moyes' United are mired in mid-table obscurity this season. But this is football - and anything can happen, right? Tune in to see for yourselves this afternoon (btw, the UK is back on daylight savings, so it's a 2:45pm EST start again).

Great picture!
I was going to have a faculty meeting today but it was cancelled
I'll be home by 3 o'lock
I will be in and out. Lunch will probably start shortly before halftime and I have been relocated to another classroom. It should be a formality for Bayern.
I forgot to mention this is due to the evil Pearson testing.
Excellent! I'll look forward to the pleasure of your company, UWS. Keep fighting the good fight against Evil Pearson testing, MUR!
And remember - football is a funny old game - anything can happen.
Thanks Bob. I will try. I feel that we have prevailed as the number of tests required for graduation was reduced from fifteen to five and we are losing fewer instructional days due to testing. I will be on board for the first half, but via text updates as I am on another teacher's computer.
The team news out of Old Trafford:
Manchester United: De Gea; Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Büttner; Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Giggs, Welbeck; Rooney. Subs: Lindegaard, Hernandez, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Januzaj, Kagawa.
Bayern Munich: Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Martinez, Alaba; Lahm; Robben, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Ribéry; Muller. Subs: Starke, Van Buyten, Mandzukic, Shaqiri, Pizarro, Gotze, Hojbjerg.
Referee: Carlos Velasco Carballo (Spain).
I think that's the same starting lineup as that vs Olympiakos at OT.
I've got a good link up through First Row for the UK coverage of the match. In the office cranking out some work this afternoon.
Makes sense, MUR - did the job against Olympiakos.
I am still displaced, but should be around for the majority of the first half.
Well in, MUR!
Nice interview now on ITV with Ryan Giggs. He's in the side tonight. United will need his experience.
Pep Guardiola is acting fairly smug this week - would love to see that smirk wiped off his face tonight. Come on you Red Devils!
What about his pace, LOL?
I would love that. I thought Pep was better than that.
Teams out on the pitch now - can't wait!
In the other CL match tonight, it's an all Spanish clash between Barca and league leaders Atletico.
Bugger!! I thought I found two more answers to the quiz question. I thought I had :
Gary Bowyer Forest / Blackburn
Doougie Freedman QPR/ Bolton.
They were in the Prem with those clubs in 93-94 , but never made it into the first team. Were Forest in the Prem that season?
That's first vs second in La Liga!
In the Championship tonight, we're up against Charlton at Elland Road. Come on, you Whites!
And we're away at OT - what would be a good result for United tonight?
I reckon United should try to hit Bayern early and then try to hang on. That's what Arsenal did and it nearly worked.
United need to attack Javer Martinez who's on a yellow and may be feeling a bit dicey about challenges.
Fellaini coughs up the ball in midfield - he can't do that if United are to survive.
I would think a minimum of 2-0 and go after Javi Martinez, the Michael Brown of Bayern. He should pick up his requisite yellow.
OH! Welly has the ball in the back of the net back in the net but he's penalized for a high boot before he sticks it in. Shame.
Par for the course for the Hair Bear
BUGGER!
That ruled out goal might just rattle the confidence of Bayern.
Bury take the lead vs Bristol Rovers
I sure hope so. We could have faced the Gooners tonight.
How are Leeds doing vs Jack Charlton Athletic?
Welly really looks up for it tonight. Just didn't pan out there for him.
Bayern with 75% of the possession.
Just kicked off, mate. 0-0 in all the Championship matches. Grayson has gone with the Smith/Ross pairing up front again. It's the best we've got.
Robben with a speculative shot once he had jinked inside. Well wide.
The text commentary said it was dangerous play be Welly
It goes without saying that Buttner should be escorting Robben out to the wing rather than allowing him to cut inside on his favored left peg.
Grayson back at ER?
I expect some diving from Robben tonight.
Braintree take the lead at Southport.
Yeah - Simon's still there for the time being. He's kept his job because the Italian bloke who was trying to take over the club - Massimo Chiellini - is massively mobbed up and on trial in Italy. The FA found that he failed the "fit and proper" test. He'd wanted to bring in Gianluca Festa.
Oh - Ribery got behind Buttner there and dinked in a a teasing ball but Moller bobbled it.
When was Brian sacked ? Have I been that busy?
Bayern starting to turn the screw a bit here. Buttner needs some cover as most of the attacking is going through Robben.
Sorry - I meant Brian McDermott. Grayson is at PNE now.
I am sure Robben will go after the inexperienced Buttner the entire match.
Grimsby take the lead at Wrexham
Fellaini is doing more harm than good in the penalty area defending. I do not like him in a defensive role.
I do like Buttner but he is raw.
Two consecutive Bayern corners.
Fellaini coughs it up again. He's having a 'mare already.
Signing Hair Bear was a huge mistake.
Valencia picks up a yellow card for a rash one.
Still have yet to go to lunch. UWS will be home from school before I go to lunch.
I thought it might be a good one, but I've always liked him better in a more attacking role. The problem is that you've got Roon in that role right and no one has been able to convince Roon to play up front.
Crikey - you must be starving!
I think Moyes likes Roon in his roving role as does Roon.
I am home
How's it been so far
Talksport has said United has started quite well
Brighton have taken the lead against Blackburn at Ewood Park.
Hate the commentary crew… the Fox guys!
No. The students and I ate out lunch in the classroom. We didn't want to wait.
United have been decent but Bayern look dangerous. Welly might have had a goal early doors but it was ruled out for a high boot.
Ribery tries a poke but it's well wide.
Good afternoon, UWS. Bayern are starting to dominate.
Brighton take the lead at Ewood Park
I've got Jon Champion and Andy "The Most Cockney Man in Ireland" Townsend on the ITV commentary.
For once I can say that Dahlgren Sports Center announced that score years ago, mate! ;-)
Crikey! Bayern have had 77% of the possession and they're the away team.
Now up to 80%. when did United last touch the ball?
Hey Guys
I saw you mention a Forest player playing in the Prem
Forest weren't in the Prem in 93-94. They got relegated in the first Prem season and Cloughie's last
Bayern have outshot United 5-0, but fortunately, none have been on target.
Vidic whiffs at a clearance!
I heard that Welbeck put the ball in the net but called back for a high foot..was it legit
That was me. In my defense ,which is a little weak, I did mention that he never made it into the first team. I think it was Gary Bowyer, son of Ian.
I'm engaging our old LHS friend Gary Chirgwin in a spirited debate over budget cutting on FB while I'm watching this.
I am following on text commentary, but think it was.
I reckon that the ref was just about right. Welly's foot was fairly close to the defender's head.
I am off to lunch. I will be back in about five minutes,.
Rovers ties it up
Well - the good news for United is that they've survived half of the first half without conceding. They can build on this.
I hate United just sitting back
Attack!!!
Enjoy your grub, mate!
Crowd go crazy as United get in the box… Useless by Welbeck…. GETTING EXCITED WHEN THE BALL GOES IN THE ATTACKING HALF!!
YIKES
United's passing is just so poor this season!
Yeah - that is a bit much, isn't it?
I agree with Robbie and I'm not happy
Robbie Savage, BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford
Man Utd 0-0 Bayern Munich
"United are set up not to lose. But United are at home in the quarter-final of the Champions League, you expect more, come on create something!"
I am back in my classroom and now off to the First Row link.
It seems that way when the away team has 81% pf the possession. San Marino type stats.
I agree with Robbie.
I just don't rate Welbeck… He gets the ball and allows the entire Bayern team to come back
Roon gives it away!
I already have a link! Lovely Jubbly.
Nice save by De Gea from Robben shot
Nice save by De Gea from Robben
Well done, mate - welcome back!
I have a soccer special link and the match on the telly
No goals in the La Liga quarterfinal. Only goals are in the Football League tonight.
shoot it Giggs!! He tries a fancy stupid pass!!
Welbeck with a weak effort
wellie straight at Neuer from thirty yards out. Tame.
Welly tries one but it's blocked into Neuer's arms.
Roon with a chance.. blocked!
BUGGER
Thanks Bob. Great to be back. We have an hour lunch, should be around for most of the match
Thanks Bob. Great to be back. We have an hour lunch, should be around for most of the match
Oh - Roon lined one up but it was blocked by Lahm. But better from United.
And now a scramble in the United box. Vidic, Rio and Twilight combine to clear it eventually.
Great saving block by Jones and then he slips!!
YIKES THAT WAS CLOSE
Old Trafford sounding good
Yikes! that back pass was fortunate to be cleared by De Gea. What were United thinking?
Are you enjoying a Sloppy Joe in the cafeteria by any chance?
I've lost count of the times that Hair Bear has lost possession in his own half.
Buttner blocks for a Bayern corner. They take it short. United win it back then Hair Bear gifts possession back
Dartford take the lead against Luton
Do Cambridge still have a chance?
I don't eat the school lunches. I always bring my own, but I already ate.
They can make the playoffs , but Luton are all but promoted.
I could murder a Sloppy Joe right about now.
Saving tackle by Vidic
Bayern look like they're going to score every time it goes in the box
Nice one, Bob.
United hanging on.
Wigan take the lead vs the Foxes.
They're almost guaranteed to finish second but I want them to pick points on Luton
Crawley take the lead at Port Vale.
Goal at the DW…. to the Cup holders
Leaders are down… they could be promoted by Friday if they win tonight and again on Friday night
I would love three points against relegation battlers Charlton tonight but given our recent form, I'll take a point.
BLOODY HELL WELBECK… BURY IT
WHY TRY AND CHIP IT!!!!!
Oh - Welly blows a big, big chance dinking it into Neuer's arms. You never try to chip a keeper who's that big!
WHAT THE HELL WAS WELLY DOING. HE WAS GIFTED A CHANCE TO GIVE UNITED THE LEAD. EVEN I COULD HAVE SCORED THAT ONE.
STUPID!
You're not Messi
Wigan have gone 1-0 up over table toppers Leicester through Ramis.
Blackburn 2-1 up vs Brighton.
Still - Welly and United have had the two best chances of the half. Positive signs?
It just drives me crazy what goes thru players minds… what was he thinking!
Wahay - the Blades are down to ten men. Freeman sent off for "serious foul play."
I wonder if United will rue those missed opportunities. They look like having precious few.
Rovers now lead the Seagulls
The Foxes tie it up at the DW.
I love Soccer Special showing all the Championship goals
Leicester tie it up
That didn't take long! Leicester are level through King.
I thought I heard the ref sent a Blade off but brought him back!
Still scoreless in both CL matches.
I don't like to see the United defenders just hoofing it clear.
Me neither
Valencia has a shot deflected over for a corner off a pass from Wellie.
Charlie Nicholas says the right thing… just round the keeper or place it
Valencia does his normal cross… just whack it and hope
Corner
Oh - was Welly just caught there by Lahm? Ball rolls on to Valencia and his shot is deflected over for a corner.
Into stoppage time.
About tim Hair Bear to score for United
First corner doesn't beat the first man!!!!!
Half time
The corner is headed out and it is 0-0 at the half.
That's the end of the first half. Jon Champion says that Bayern dominated it but United really had the best chances.
BEAT THE FIRST MAN WITH THE CROSS!!!!!!!!!
That was a good save by De Gea…. I am really pleased with him as United's keeper
I don't care it is Bayern Munich… IT IS MANCHESTER UNITED!!!
Mickel Silvestre in the Fox Studio
I was almost right about Leicester
If they win tonight and Friday, they would only need one point to be promoted
0-0 at Elland Road at half-time. I'd take that.
I was right
The Sheff United player was sent off and Brentford was awarded a penalty BUT the ref called him back and took away the penalty!!!
Good for him … if he was right!
Cambridge scoreless at Macclesfield
If they win and Luton lose.. it will be down to ten points… Cambridge have a game in hand… down to seven!
Ben, Yeovil: Possession possession possession from Bayern. Give me the more direct approach of Liverpool and Man City any day of the week. Far more entertaining.
James in Uttoxeter: Don't know what everyone is moaning about. Chelsea won the whole thing playing this way in 2012. United have had the better chances!
Jim Birmingham: Credit to United they've battled hard and showing great heart. Offered a lot more then many other teams this season v Munich.
Diego Costa has had to go off injured
Take a nil niller at home to Charlton???
I agree UWS. Leeds need three points vs Jack Charlton Athletic.
Did you see the England shirts for the WC?"
Hate the skin type shirts!
Daily Mail also put this story out… notice today's date!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2593515/Revealed-England-wear-one-YELLOW-kit-World-Cup-homage-hosts-Brazil.html
Kagawa on for Giggs
Moyes has seen enough of the old man - Kags coming on for Giggs.
Will this mean United will attack more
UWS will be pleased to note that I got out of a two day workshop on collecting data from standardized testing. I was told that I would have give up some conference periods next year for this "project." I told them to count me out and they did.
Yes - I know I have low expectations but a point will do us today. That would leave us only two points from safety.
BRILLIANT!
How could they attack any less?
Ta, UWS.
Kags knows how to beat Bayern
We're back on at OT.
I saw both the England and U.S. WC kits. The England kit is supposed to be similar to the
'70 kit, but should be loose fitting in the heat and humidity. The U.S. away kit looks like a clown costume.
Glad Kagawa came on for Giggs. Did Giggs even touch the ball in the first half?
I agree - ridiculous looking!
I saw that!
Did you see the link I sent you
No more STAAR testing till the first week of May.
Wigan and Leeds on the telly in England on Saturday
Should be on the telly here on BEIN or a link
I did not . When did you send it?
We just started the ELA today and for the next two days
The math exam is end of the month and beginning of May
I think it's BEIN shown on the Yank telly.
Noel Hunt on for Big Matty Smith at the start of the second half at ER.
Link on this blog
I'll be at my bruvva's on Saturday. Should be able to tune in. It's an early one, no?
We had the freshman ELA yesterday and the sophomore one today. The only high school math STAAR remaining is Algebra I. Melanie said the ELA was really easy. Jacquelyn test today and tomorrow.
I will be at a Fantasy Baseball draft so i won't be around
Sounds as if you lot are as buried in assessment as I am. Teaching used to be fun, didn't it?
Nil nil at home isn't that bad of a score in these matches
We are done till the first week of May.
I agree - you'd take that.
You will be missed, UWS. I will be around. Don't like Hunt for Smith. Does sound like a good move.
In United's run in 99, they played at home in the first leg in both matches
Beat Inter 2-0 and then drew 1-1
Drew Juve 1-1… late goal by Giggs
Won 3-2 after being 2-0 down after 11 minutes
Great days!
I would definitely take that
I would… but we're not playing Charlton
Those were the good old days.
No - it sounds fairly defensive. Smith is a big target man up front and a decent foil for Ross. Hunt tucks in. Could be an injury but I would have preferred to see Cam Stewart come on.
We're going to win 2-0!!!
Bobby did on his debut .
Yeah - and we're not bloody Manchester United!
I would love that
Still at lunch.
Either is this team in red… SEVENTH PLACE!!!
Go on - grab yourself a corn dog. I would!
