Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

They're off from Anfield.
Morning, MUR - thanks for posting the thread this morning. Nice one!
Ta, Bob. Great to be chatting with you.
It's like a reunion at Anfield as three former Saints are on Pool, all starting with L: Lallana , Lambert, and Loveren. Lambert starts in the bench.
Slow start to this match. It will be fascinating to see what losing Suarez will do to Liverpool.
Also to see how a depleted Sotton perform.
A little wide by Danny Sturridge, my GBB for the second consecutive season.
Great from the travelling Saints fans:
IS THIS A LIBRARY
Today’s teams:
Liverpool (4-3-3): Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson, Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas, Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge. Subs: Jones, Toure, Lambert, Sakho, Can, Allen, Ibe
Southampton (4-2-3-1): Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Bertrand, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Steven Davis, Pelle. Subs: Kelvin Davis, Long, Taider, Cork, Hooiveld, Isgrove, Stephens
Man in the middle: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear)
A corner from Stevie G skipped in the box and came last off Lucas and into the arms of new keeper, Fraser Forster.
It's 0-0 in the second half of the Edinburgh Derby, surprisingly as a second tier match. The first time ever?
The only former Siants L starting is Loveren. Lallana is injured and Lambert is on the bench
Danny appeared to be tripped by Yoshida just outside the box.
Brendan Rogers looking pensive.
Were you up late drinking a pint of Strose.
Danny straight at Fraser Forster, then a miss kick from Loveren then Manquillo concedes a corner to the Saints.
A poor defensive header by Johnson on the corner and Mignolet does well to gather in a sea of bodies.
GOAL !!!! MY GBB GIVES POOL THE LEAD OFF A LONG BALL FROM JORDAN HENDERSON
GOAL! Raheem Sterling is up and running for the new season. Brilliant through ball to him.
1-0 Pool!
Henderson won the ball in midfield with two great tackles then a superb long ball found Danny who finished nicely past Fraser Forster. Nat Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin were caught ball watching.
YIKES! It was Sterling, not Danny. I guess the morning cuppa hasn't kicked in. You would think I was the one drinking Strose!
Glen Johnson wins a corner off Nat Clyne, who should have let the ball run out for a goal kick. Steven Davis heads away the corner from Coutinho then Glen Johnson finds Row S
Victor Wanayama down injured off a free kick from James Ward- Prowse. Now that the Saints lack depth they can ill afford to lose him.
A swirling drizzle on Merseyside. Sounds like a typical August day in Merseyside. We could use some of that
Mignolet does well to tip over a free kick from James Ward-Prowse. Loveren and Danny head away the corner.
Manquillo received the first booking of his Pool career for a foul on new Saints signing, Tadic.
Hearts take the lead vs Hibs in the Edinburgh Derby in the scottish Champiuonship
WOW !!! What a start for Hearts ! Their first two matches in the second tier are Rangers at Ibrox and Hibs at home. They won at Ibrox and are leading Hibs. Favorites to go back up?
ward-Prose has a curler easily saved by Mignolet
Hearts now go two up and look favorites to go back up to the Prem , where they would have easier opposition , ironically speaking.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
Mignolet superbly tips over a long range effort from Schneiderlin
Mignolet easily catches the corner.
forster punches away a long range effort from Danny then offside is called. Pool lead 1-0 at the half.
Hibs pull one back as they trail Hearts 2-1. Now it's a final as Hearts win 2-1 and are top of the Scottish Championship thanks to a pair of 2-1 wins: onein the Edinburgh Derby and one at Ibrox. None too shabby.
I'm back for the second half after a lovely egg and toast breakfast with Kate.
The second half is underway
That's an excellent breakfast. I had two English muffins and coffee.
Arlo said this is the 40th anniversary of Bob Paisley's first match in charge of Liverpool. My how time has flown.
A more conservative approach for Pool, say the two Robbies. What do you make of that, MUR?
A lot of 1-0 and 2-1 wins in the Premiership this weekend, so most of the GDs are either +1 or -1.
I agree with the two Robbies.
I am not surprised . It's the opening weekend and it demonstrates what a competitive league the Prem is.
Bloody hell - Soton had a fire sale this summer! I wonder why?
Looks like Raheem has been spending July and August on his barnet.
GOAL! Soton are back in it through a rattler from Clyne!
GOAL !! 1-1 NAT CLYNE SCORES WITH A ROCKET OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BAR
Ronny Koeman is pleased by that one.
So despite the signing of Lovren and the more cautious approach, Pool have still conceded at home to one of the relegation favorites in their opener.
Soton have definitely got the momentum now.
The Saints may have had a fire dale this summer, but it was one of their new signings that was really influential. Nat Clyne played a one-two with Tadic, who returned the pass with a cheeky back heel. Clyne scored with a spectacular finish
Nice move, for sure.
I think the Saints will be okay. They won't be as high as eighth, but I would think that they will finsh higher than the likes of QPR , Palace , Villa , and Burnley. They should be safe.
Will Big Ronnie celebrate with some Strose?
Coutinho looking for a pen there but Clattenberg wasn't impressed.
I suspect that Ronny is a Grolsch man.
Manquillo sounds like a nice tequilla.
Oh - Mignolet saves Pool's bacon there when the goal was beckoning for Davies.
OH! Steven Davis should have given the Saints the lead. Nice pass from James Ward- Prowse and Mignilet easily saved his scuffed effort.
With a worm at the bottom of the bottle?
Joe Allen on for Lucas. Like for like. I guess Brendan is happy with the way things are and is confident that Pool can still win this.
Pool have a chance from a free kick now with the big boys arriving. Poor delivery from Gerrard.
Absolutely. I will not dispute the Grolsch. I defer to the master.
I think the Saints have shown that they will not be pushovers . The big news may be the form of new signing, Tadic, not the fire sale.
Schneiderlin was booked for a foul on Coutinho.
More slick passing by the Saints and Pool desperately clear.
More chaos in the Pool box - they still haven't sorted out there issues. Tadic is creating real problems for them.
Nice one by Le Saux . Tadic was signed for from Twente for 18 mil. Graeme said it wasn't a discounted price.
Graeme was always a Guardian-reading clever bloke.
The Saints were one of two teams to win a Prem match at Anfield last season. Loveren scored the goal. Now he's on Pool.
Definitely a clever boy.
Better move from Pool but Sturridge had drifted a yard offside.
Another new signing, Shane Long, is about to come on . He was signed for 20 mil, but not from Twente
Definitely surprising that Tadic is off as Shane Long is on for his Saints debut. Is it lack of match fitness? He does look a bit winded.
Irish striker Shane Long on for the last quarter of an hour.
Brendan on the touchline, getting technical!
Henderson drags an effort well wide.
New signing Rickie Lambert coming on for his debut.
Another former Saint L as Lambert is on for Coutinho for his Pool debut, against his former club.
Lambert released by Pool at fifteen , but returns at 32!
Oh - Lambert was nearly in straight away!
A free kick from Stevie G is just missed by Loveren and makes it's way to Fraser Forster
GOAL! Sturridge has won it late on!
GOAL !!! 2-1 POOL AND THIS TIME MY GBB DEFLECTS AN EFFORT IN FROM CLOSE RANGE.
Some pinball action in the Soton box and Sturridge was there to poke home.
Definitely not offside as Nat Clyne, the Saints scorer, kept him on.
Pool up to second, level with Arse on points and GD.
Lambert has had a real influence in this match as he won a loose ball in the Saints box and passed it wide to Henderson, whose cross was headed away then headed back by Sterling as Danny deflected it in
If Pool score another then they are top of the pops, but Citeh and Chelski have yet to play.
Yes - Lambert has caused the Saints to drop deeper in order to cover him.
we did really well with 722 comments, which matches Melanie's birth date.
It was a terrific opening day, despite no points for either first scorer or red card.
Ward-Prouse with a decent effort that had Mignolet worried.
James Ward - Prowse shoots straight at Mignolet off a throw from young Welsh player, Isgrove.
Soton are giving it a real go.
Oh - how did Shane Long miss that header?
OH! off the bar from Shane Lane Long. Did it cross the line? Mark Clattenburg is using goal line technology and it did not cross. Great save by Mignolet.
We came close to earning points . Roon scored the second goal of the season and Tony picked someone from the Hammers for first sending off and that was the second.
Koeman looks as if he's been tucking into the smoked Gouda since retirement.
If the Saints lose at least they have sent out a message that they won't be pushovers.
I thought he was a little hefty as a player. He hasn't gained as much weight as some former players
It's over and Pool scrape out a 2-1 win vs the Saints.
I am going to take Sparky for a short walkies and will be back for the next match
Full-time - Liverpool hold out, but - as with Arsenal yesterday - they weren't entirely convincing and made hard work with clearly inferior opposition.
2-1 Liverpool
Back from walkies. The teams are out on the pitch at SJP. About five minutes before kickoff.
Citeh will go top if they win by more than one goal. That sounds familiar.
A minute's silence to honor two Toon supporters who were killed during the Malaysian Airlines disaster. Citeh fans and Sunderland fans are thanked for their support and help.
They're off from SJP.
Back for the Citeh debut in the Premiership away to Newcastle. Will they impress more than Arsenal or Liverpool?
BUGGER! David Pleat is part of the commentary team.
I think opening day is hard to predict. Last year Pool started with an unconvincing 1-0 win vs Stoke, but had a great season. It's definitely a marathon.
Citeh with an early chance as a lovely ball from Silva and Krul was out to block and outstretched volley from Jerko.
The teams:
Newcastle: Krul; Janmaat, Williamson, Coloccini, Dummett; Colback, Anita; Sissoko, Cabella, Gouffran; Riviere. Subs: Aarons, Perez, Haidara, Elliot, Obertan, Steven Taylor, Abeid.
Man City: Hart; Clichy, Demichelis, Kompany, Kolarov; Fernando, Toure; Nasri, Jovetic, Silva; Dzeko. Subs: Zabaleta, Milner, Caballero, Navas, Aguero, Fernandinho, Boyata.
Referee: Martin Atkinson
Citeh were not at their best, to say the least, last Sunday. Can they bounce back with a convincing win today?
Now the noise raises as Newcastle pinch the ball and attack, but Gouffran takes too long on the edge of the City area and loses it to Fernando.
I think Citeh will. They had an under strength team vs the Gunners. I noticed that it's as if most teams are shaking off the cob webs or world Cup hangovers. Some are still in the preseason mode.
Tim Krul does well to push away a long range effort from Nasri.
If Fernando and Fernandinho start together then it will be a commentator's nightmare.
Great overlapping run by Kolarov there but Williamson is able to scramble it away to safety.
williamson scrambles away for a Citeh corner taken by Silva and headed away. Kolorov fouls Cabella on the break.
True - and perhaps throw a Ferdinand in there as well.
Pleat would love that. He would call it a tongue twister.
Just over by Remy Cabella . Decent Toon build up.
Toon fans up on their feet paying tribute now.
A moment's applause at the Seventeen minute mark for the two supporters who perished in the MH-17.
Fred out prancing as he is eyeing his dreaded rivals.
I don't know this Riviere bloke - do you?
Riviere shakes off Kompany then shoots horribly from near the halfway line. Why is Pleat calling him of the great Newcastle United forwards.? he has played all of 23 minutes for the Toon.
They just mentioned that he's a French U-21 international just signed from Monaco. Sounds like the latest addition to the French Foreign Legion.
Yeah - sounds like it. They lost Debuchy to Arsenal, so they're filling their French quota.
They are one short . Cabaye was replaced by Yanmaaat, a Dutchman. Will they call an emergency board meeting?
The French foreign Legion have accounted for 57 out of the last 67 Toon Prem goals. They should for all the money invested in them.
I should think so!
I guess Cabella would fill their quota. No board meeting required.
Riviere well wide off a pass from Cabella.
I'm not convinced by either of these sides. Maybe Chelski will get off to a rip roaring start tomorrow? I won't be able to watch as I'm in a Teaching & Learning conference all day.
David Silva booked for a push in the back on Anita. It was a clip. That seems a harsh booking.
Me either. The match we will be televised again on NBCSN at 9 PM your time.I'm going to watch in the evening.
Riviere tries a left footed drive and get closer to the corner flag. An extraordinary effort. Does he have his contact lenses in today?
Citeh are capable of scoring quickly and could get in a rhythm in the second half and top the table .
Might well do that, too. Cheers!
I'm not sure. That's an excellent question.
Any time, mate.
The French boys do seem to enjoy experimenting with their hairstyles.
GOAL! Silva gives Citeh the lead close to half time. Great time to score.
GOAL !!!! A SILVER LINING AS SILVA SCORES A TYPICAL GOAL. NICE BACK HEEL FROM JERKO. GREAT PASS FROM YAYA TO JERKO.
That was made by a lovely take and backheel by Dzeko. The big man really laid it on a plate for Silva.
0-1 Citeh!
One more goal without reply and Citeh top the table.
You should be writing punny headlines for the tabloids, mate. You've missed your calling.
In tune against the Toon . They were tuning up their chords.
Ta, mate here another couple.
Citeh vs Pool should be a real cracker next weekend. I don't like them playing each other so early in the season.
Yeah - should be a good 'un. Might invite a few lads over for that one.
It would be better if they played next month after having some more match sharpness and getting down their timing.Oh well.
Newcastle just seem to lack a bit of sharpness up front. What's happened to Cisse? He was so dynamic when paired up with his countryman Demba Ba.
It's difficult to read into early season results. The second match of last season, Citeh lost at Cardiff and we know what happened to both those teams.
Is Cisse still on the Toon? Is he out injured?
Citeh get behind Newcastle again but Dummett recovers well.
Great tackle on nasri by Dummett for as corner off a n ice through ball.
Not sure either way.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
IS Riviere from the Riviera?
Kolarov and Jovetic got in each other's way there but Citeh are starting to flow.
Citeh one up at the half and firmly in the driver's seat.
Might be - that would be a Nice place to grow up.
Boom boom!
Nice one, mate. Rather clever.
The second half is underway.
Back at it at the SJP.
I just noticed that Arsenal are in CL action on Tuesday and your beloved Europa League on Thursday
Cabella wins a corner off of Di Michelis.
Hart blocks twice from an unmarked Gouffrhan off the corner.
Over from a sliding Cabella off a pass from Gouffrhan
well wide by Jerko off a pass from Jovetic . Great cover by Collecini.
Mike Cashley trying to sell shirts? I guess since he can't fit into any.
Stupid trip by Di Michelis on Cabella and deservedly booked.
Fans cheer as Martin Atikinson sprays the foam.
well wide by Jovetic.
Kolorov booked for a foul on Riviere.
Williamson heads over the free kick from Colback. Not the most convincing keeping from Hart.
Yes - it's a busy Tuesday with Championship action (Leeds are at home to Brighton) and CL qualifying (Arsenal v. Besiktas, etc).
Sadly, I'll miss the lot of it for a Chairs Retreat.
well stated by Jon Champion, stating that the wayward shot from Jovetic is headed for Gateshead.
Aguero warming up now. Looks ready for action.
I have staff development all week . I feel your pain.
I saw that the early match on BEIN on Saturday is the East Anglian Derby from Portman Road.I'll be up for that one.
Yeah - saw that. Not sure I'll be around for it. I'll try though.
I'm off to do a few errands, mate. Enjoy the rest of it.
Gouffrhan wins a corner off of compatriot, Clichy.
Cheers mate. Enjoy.
OUCH! Ober on for Anita. An attacking move , but one that will not help the Toon cause.
Kolorov darts past Ober then wins a corner off of Cissoko.
Jerko heads just over after Fernando won a tackle just outside the Toon box. Great cross by Jovetic.
Sissoko fouls Jerko just outside the box.
Fernandinho on for Jovetic. Both Fernies are on the pitch simultaneously.
The Free kick from Yaya is just over.
Eighteen year old Rolando Aarons is on for Gouffran, making his league debut. what time to make it.
Kompany booked for obstructing Colback just outside the box. Colback did well to win a tackle.
Milner on for Nasri against one of his former clubs.
Aguero on for Jerko.
Ayoze Perez signed by Spanish Second division club ,Tenerife, on for Riviere , and instantly involved as he has a shot deflected for a corner. A bright start for the young Spaniard.
The three subs combine as Aarons heads over a cross by Ober.
Fernando booked for a foul on Sissoko. The fifth Citeh booking.
