A mid winter Sunday Double Header
It's Sunday morning so it's a Premier League double header. It starts with Arsenal vs Stoke from the EM where the main news is that we won't be sing Su Su Sudio as Wenger dropped his starting keeper, replacing him with David Ospina. Wenger said he was dropped , not for smoking , but for poor form. The late match is United vs the Saints at OT where one time Dutch friends , but now archenemies , LVG and Fat Ron face do battle at OT. It sounds like a must watch Sunday.

They're off from the EM.
It's a Premier League Debut for Colombian international, David Ospina. Will he be the permanent starter?
Begovic did well to turn around an early effort from, Alexis.
I just read on soccernet that Su Su Sudio was dropped for smoking after the match vs the Saints.
Morning MUR
I put up a post after yours... make sure you comment
Rosicky with a great run... nice save
Rosicky received a pass and Begovic did well tot turn his effort around the post.
Goal...it's been coming for six minutes!
GOAL !!! kOS PUTS THE GUNNERS IN THE LEAD.
Good morning UWS. How have you been?
Kosc passed the ball out to the flank and just floated back in
I'm good
Yourself?
It sure was coming as a cross from a short corner was not cleared and Alexis crossed for Kos to score with a free header.
I'm doing well. Thank you.
Swansea agree a 28m deal for Bony with City
I just posted on the other thread. A great post and a good choice for a picture. Well done.
I remember you and Bob talking about that move yesterday. I don't see him being a regular starter.
So many players go to the big clubs and never play!!!
Debuchy is down , seriously injured as he collided with Arnautovic . It looks serious
I agree. It's all about money instead of the reason they first started playing. A love of playing footie.
DeBu had a a little shove out of play and he has had to be replaced. They are still working on him as the game is going. Still in the same spot
Did you read that Arsene dropped Woijcech for smoking? If Ospina plays well that he may on his way. What an idiot.
They are still working on him. I am really concerned.
The Ox hits one just wide
Not confident about the other match today BUT it is a league match and there will be no negative talk from me.... you won't here from me much then!!
Debuchy sitting up on a stretcher as they finally take him
I figured it was his shoulder because I don't think he hit the advertising. It happened when he was pushed down and hit the ground
He is being stretchered off and that must be it for him as he is holding his shoulder. He will probably be out for a while. I wonder who will come on in his place?
I think the late match will be really close as the Dutch archenemies do battle.
Is Welbeck on the bench?
Same as at OT, not a starting spot.
Sigh... Starts for England
Alexis needs to shut it as he is lectured by the ref and Mert.
Pieters heads out for an Arsenal corner.
A poor corner from Caz , but the Gunners keep possession.
Another great save by Beg
A superb save from Begovic from Giroud off a poass from, Alexis.
Giroud beats the offside trap and shoots well wide with just Begovic to beat
Arsenal should be out of sight already
You are correct. Rosciky is in the starting lineup in place of Wellie , who was a starer until a couple of matches ago. I don't know if he will be on the bench on a regular basis or if he's being rested.
They would be but for Begovic. I wonder if will be a target for Arsenal after the latest episode with a certain Arsenal keeper.
A first test for Ospina as he caught a deflected cross at the near post and nearly collided with that post.
Mark Hughes is one of the few ex Reds that I don't like as a manager
He is a big whiner!!!!
When United played Stoke at OT, Untied were all over them that day and could have been way ahead but were only two goals. I don't think De Gea had anything to do all day long. They then score in the late 80s and then De Gea made some great saves
Hughes said they deserved something from the game... they didn't do anything for 87 minutes!!
A clash of Spaniards as Bojan is tripped by Nacho just outside the box. The Potters must be tasting a chance.
Free kick pulled back.... bloody useless... row Q
Glen whelan blasts over off a short free kick from Bojan. They won't get many better chances than that. What excuses will Hughes make?
I agree. Hughes was one of my favorite players, but definitely not as a manager. I could say the same to a lesser extent about Brucie and Roy Keane when he was managing.
Begovic makes a rare mistake, dropping a cross, but gets away with it.
I don't mind Brucie but I agree with you about Keane
Don't like Ince cuz he went to Liverpool and loved scoring against us
Ince has been a poor manager too Brucie is a good bloke, but has been a really average manager. Our former players have not been exactly the most successful managers.
I just got a reminder on facebook about a certain person's birthday. Any guesses?
Sanchez makes it two
Great finish
GOAL !!! ALEXIS PUTS THE GUNNERS TWO UP, BEATING BEGOVIC CHEEKILY AT THE NEAR POST
No idea... Jan 11? Doesn't ring any bells
I do know that January 11, 1964 was the date that a report was published that smoking was bad for your health
It was actually a poor pass from Alexis intended for Rosicky, but Nzonzi gifted it back to Roiscky , who played in Alexis, who beat Begovic at the near post.
That was definitely a landmark article . Quite a significant date!
Nacho is down, holding his head, off an unintentional elbow from Crouch
So, apparently only one injured player at Old Trafford
What will be the line up?
WIll Mata lose his place as Di Maria comes in?
Where will Blind play with Carrick? Can he go to the back with Rojo back too
Will Herrera play somewhere?
Does LVG know?
It's hard to blame Begovic for that goal. Alexis faked out two Stoke defenders, who must have blocked Begovic's line of sight.
When are United going play with all cylinders a blazin
Another lengthy injury fix for an Arsenal fullback. This time play has to stop... get off the pitch!
We want to be in a position where LVG has to make decisions. That's why he gets paid the big bucks! I would guess that Mata goes to the bench . It's hard to see Blind starting since Carrick is in top form, but that one is hard to determine.
Monreal is finally up... I guess eh'll be ok
Henry and Pires in the stands having a giggle
Terry Henry and Bobby Pires seem to be enjoying the match as it is the off season for TH-17.
Could Blind and Carrick play together?
Ospiuna easily gathers a high cross, but the previous one gave the Gunners defense some problems.
I don't see that. I would guess that LVG has decision to make with that one.
Blind playing in the back?
Morning, chaps - thanks for the birthday wishes!
It's been a good start. We were up late having a good old fashioned game night last night, then a lie in and breakfast in bed for the birthday boy. Kate's birthday is tomorrow, so we're really enjoying the weekend.
Five minutes of stoppage time.
5 added minutes
Crouch with no support.. became knackered.. back passed it
Good morning Bob. A well deserved breakfast and Happy Birthday to Kate.
Crouchie looked like Ichabod Crane off his horse bounding down the wing and launching a tame shot at Sussudio.
Bellerin wins a corner off of Pieters.
Good Morning Birthday Boy
Isn't that cute... back to back birthdays!!!
Birthday weekends!
well stated, Bob. That was probably Stoke's best effort of the half.
The birthdays go together just like this great couple does.
Half time
All Gunners
The Gunners are two up at the half as Giroud and Shawcross were exchanging words. Complete dominance by the Gunners.
I've enjoyed reading your comments. Looks like Arsenal have been in charge and that Begovic has kept the score down.
Great headed goal by Koz!
Hughes making a double substitution Steve Sidwell is on for Nzonzi and Pieters has been led down the tunnel injured as he's replaced by Muniesa.
The second half is underway
Two changes for Stoke at the interval. One forced - Pieters had to be led back into the dressing room with some problem. Muneisa on for him. And Sidwell, a former Arsenal youth prospect on for N'Zonzi, who sounds as if he had a stinker in the first half.
Shawcross heads out a cross from Bellerin for a corner.
Dressed for the second half
Will it be same as the first?
What's the snow situation for the Birthday Twins
Are you older than Kate?
Correct Bob. He did have a stinker, but so did a lot of Stoke players. I guess that was a tactical switch
Free kick chance for the Gooners
Steve Sidwell fouls the Ox just outside the box.
Our Bob is young at heart.
Early free kick for the Arse now. It could be all over if this one goes in. Alexis over it....
3-0!
It worked in the WC but in the Prem, the players ignored the spray.... they just stand on it
GOAL!!! Roles in... OG?
I think it is a goal
GOAL !!!! ALEXIS PUTS THE GUNNERS THREE UP FROM THE FREE KICK. BEGOVIC PUSHES IT OFF THE POST. IT WENT THROUGH THE SO CALLED WALL.
Might be an own goal as the hapless Begovic saved it onto the post and it went back in off his head. Hard to say what the panel will say about that one.
What is Dixon talking about
IT IS GAME OVER!!!
Stoke went three up and the Gunners pulled two back. Will Stoke pull two back?
Of course, in the reverse fixture at the beginning of December, the home side were three up and only one 3-2
Terrible defending again from Stoke - that's unlike a Sparky Hughes team. He'll be livid. That was Defending 101 that they just failed.
Not sure why the Emirates faithful got so worked up about that yellow card.
So, the ball went through the wall .what was Alexsis's role in the goal?
I'm sure Hughes gave them the hairdryer treatment. They've been horrible today.
UWS - your sister Debs just said 'hi' to you - on Facebook! ;-)
I wonder if it Stoke will pull two back to make it closer. I don't see that happening.
I wonder if he had a chance to read it.
Has he gone off to the bog again? Might as well - this one's over. Next!
Arnautovic curls a free kick wide.
It appears that way. Will he miss a goal while on the bog?
Arsenal are back up into 5th ahead of their cross-town rivals.
I don't do BookFace
Tell her to text me then!!!
Citeh vs Arsenal should be quite a match next weekend.
I dunno - the Arse have their foot off the gas now.
Alexis Sanchez now has 12 Premiership goals - a great return for the Arsenal.
Geoff Cameron booked for an earlier foul as the Gunners win a corner
No United players in the top ten goalscorer - Wayne Rooney is 12th on 8 goals.
It's fitting that Bob typed comment 111 on his birthday, which is 1/11. That means you're number one!
Just wide by Crouch off a cross from Muniesa.
Bob will be disappointed to hear that he will not be singing Su Su Sudio on his birthday.
spooky... wish Leeds were #1 not #21
Crouch booked for a trip on Coq Au Vin.
I agree. When I was gone I heard it was a tale of two penalties at the Reebok.
Oh - I wish they were, too. We'll do well to stay up this year and then reorganize over the summer.
It was indeed. An early pen by Rudy Austin for us and then an equalizer pen for Gudjohnsson for them. I was surprised that he's still playing for Bolton.
I think s draw at the Reebok was a decent result, considering Bolton's improved form since Neil Lennon took over.
Just as surprised as Ivanhoe having a return to Anfield in a fortnight?
Great to see The Ox back firing. I'm not sure that he'd make my first XI for England but good to have in the squad for impact.
Really - Emile Heskey is going back to Liverpool?!
OH!!! Cax had an effort graze the crossbar off a nice one two.
Almost another as Carzola dinks one just too high
Walcott replaces the Ox
I agree - I wasn't that disappointed with it. If we were to pick up a point a game for the rest of the season, we'd be safe.
A standing ovation as Theo is on for Ox, who is a Fox in the Box.
I agree. I think Leeds have a great chance of surviving. It depends upon the run-in.
LOL!!! Ivanhoe is starting up front with fellow old timer, Gudjohnsson.
Unfortunately, we're on a transfer ban from the FA due to our Cellino ownership.
That does suck. If you all are on a ban then how did they approve Cellino as an owner. Did the Fa receive a payout?
This game is done and dusted and I have a very impatient dog staring at me
I am off for walkies and I'll be back for United Sotton match
Remember, no negative talk for league matches.... so I won't be saying much!!!
The final roll of the dice from Hughes as Stephen Ireland is on for Bojan.
Big hand for Giroud as he's replaced by Mezut Ozil. It's the return of the super crocks day today at the Em.
Beaker is on for Giroud as he returns to the first team.
Cheers UWS. Keep warm in the frozen tundra.
Even Lee Dixon fancies a kick-about now. It's party time at the Emirates now.
Enjoy your frigid walk with Shadow, UWS.
A cheeky chip by Alexis, but well over. Why not?
Should we join the party? After all it is your birthday.
Geoff Cameron has the ball in the net but the flag is up for offside. Derisive laughter from the Em crowd.
That sums up Stoke's day as Cameron has a goal disallowed for offside. A great chip from Ireland and Cameron volleyed off of Ospina's finger tips. He was well offside.
The Em faithful really having a good laugh at the away fans' expense. They've just announced that the trains back to Stoke are off. That seems overly unkind.
Three nil and you're not going home. I think I heard that from beaches of North Carolina.
Rubbing salt in their wounds. The away fans have really been stoked.
You lot could do the Arsenal a favor today. If you win by seven or more, Arsenal would be back up into the CL slots.
Oh dear - Alexis laid one on a plate for Theo and he fluffed it. Well wide.
OH!!! Theo misses a real sitter. Alexis led a counter and laid it on a plate for Theo, who shot wide of the on rushing Begovic. A scuffed effort.
I hope we win, but I don't see us going seven up. We don't seem to be that thirsty.
Boom, boom, mate!
The lineups were just flashed . The Saints playing Pelle up front as the lone striker. United with the typical 3-5-2 as there is room for both Carrick and Blind. I wonder who is making way.
Theo might have made the job easier for United there. Arsenal have improved their GD mightily today - they could use a home match vs. Stoke every weekend.
Strange that they hate going to the Britannia so much.
Cheers mate.
I think it exposes a weakness with the Gunners when they face certain types of teams . Stoke play differently at the Brittania.
Ozil shows his lack of match sharpness as he shoots well wide off a nice slide rule pass.
Ireland nearly gets a late consolation goal.
Ospina with a good save from Ireland. His first in his first start for the Gunners Two minutes of stoppage time.
It's over and a routine 3-0 win for the Gunners.
I am back and thawing out
Blind in the defense
Carrick in midfield
RVP and DiM up front
Falcao not even on the bench
Has to be ill or injured
Full line ups
Man Utd:
De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Carrick, Di Maria, Blind, Mata, Rooney, van Persie.
Subs: Evans, Ander Herrera, Fellaini, Valdes, McNair, Blackett, Wilson.
Southampton:
Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Steven Davis, Ward-Prowse, Elia, Pelle.
Subs: Kelvin Davis, Gardos, Long, Tadic, Isgrove, Reed, Targett.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire)
The starting XIs lining up in the tunnel:
United - Twilight, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Carrick, Di Maria, Blind, Mata, Roon, RVP.
Southampton - Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Davis, Ward-Prowse, Elia, Pelle.
United join Southampton in the tunnel
Here come the teams
I want attacking play by United
I don't possession with passes going sideways and backwards
United need to win to keep Arsenal and Sotton at bay
Did you ever answer my question?
You two were born a day apart but how many years?
Where has Danny Blind been - injured?
I'm back just in time for kickoff and the portly, egotistical Phil Dowd is officiating .
Devils vs Saints!!
COME ON YOU DEVILS!!!
They're off from Ot.
Arlo with a stupid comment... a draw would put them above United...that's not true...United would get a point too
All Sotton at first.
United not starting well at the back
Again, no negative talk
United's first home game of 2015
Sorry, mate - I didn't see it.
I'm nine years older than Kate - she'll be 42 tomorrow. I know - I'm robbing the cradle, eh?
Southampton on top to start
United not keeping possession and fouling already
Free kick chance, somewhat cleared
No, she's taking care of grandpa
The Little Neviller alongside Arlo today.
Pleased to see Blind in the back three but things have not started so well
Who's at home??
LOL!
You are young at heart in my book, but you have done well, mate.
I may have to stop commentating.... already!!
According to UWS, Arlo made a pointless comment.
United get the ball in the opponents half but go backwards with bad control by Shaw
If Falcao is rested then LVG is saying that he sucks!
ALderweireld fouls Di Maria just outside the box.
NO, a stupid and wrong comment
A point wouldn't put Sotton on top of United!!
Free kick chance for Untied
Rooney puts it in..cleared
The free kick from Roon was headed away and Alderweireld heads out for a United corner.
Good header by Smalling but United players weren't anticipating
It was one of my puns, UWS. His comment about a point was pointless.
DiMaria... doesn't beat the first man..sigh
He then has a shot... doesn't curl
duh
United need to attack at pace... too slow and wrong direction
Not negative just a suggestion
It finished Desmond in the Rome Derby. From a PPP point of view Juve could go three points clear if they win at Raffa's club this afternoon.
Wolves have 0-1 at Blackburn
Is it good to get Valdes.... it gives De Gea an excuse to go
Days of old, Untied would have peppered the goal a few times by now
Any worse than Arlo ? He's the supposed professional. I'm an amateur ad libbing.
IS that a criticism UWS?
