The Battle at the Bottom
Morning, chaps. It's all about the bottom of the Premiership this morning, as Leicester and Newcastle kick off in half an hour. Before that, we've got the final slate of Championship matches. The relegation slots are settled with Evil Millwall, Wigan and Blackpool consigned to L1 next season. So the only drama left is whether Derby will balls it up against Reading and allow either Brentford or Wolves back into the playoff picture. Join me for all the action this morning, won't you?

The NBC Sports Network coverage has started with the bizarre Nigel Pearson media interviews from this week. He seems to have lost the plot just when his side have hit a vein of great form. Before the Foxes ran up against presumed title winner Chelski in mid-week, they had won four on the trot.
Brentford v. Wigan is the Championship offering over on BEin Sports.
Wow - the Championship matches have started with a bang with a Karl Appiah goal for Reading against Derby. Suicidal defending from the Rams. That might allow either Brentford or Wolves back in.
Griffin Park is deathly silent, especially given the news out of Derby. I cannot believe this side might be 90 minutes from the playoffs.
Newcastle manager John Carver has also been in trouble, after having sworn at several Newcastle fans last weekend. He was forced to invite them to a reception when he publicly apologized for his behavior.
Good morning Bob. I wondered what match BEIN might show.It could be the ghost of Peter Griffin.
John Carver is cracking under the pressure of being a failure with the team he has supported all his life.
Bournemouth have gone top with a goal away to Charlton.
Morning, MUR - thanks for joining me this morning. I hope you've had a good week.
Lots of early goals in the Championship. Ipswich have taken the lead at Balckburn. The Cherries are two up at Charlton. If they hadn't clinched promotion, they have now. Evil Cardiff are one up at Forest
Hey Boys
I'm here for a while
Bournemouth two up!
Ipswich are ahead at Ewood... Town really need a point
My pleasure. It was a busy week like yours. How was your week?
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board this morning. Happy 9th anniversary to the LOB!
I really want the Cherries win the League and not Watford
Good morning UWS. Great to have you on board.
Busiest week I've had so far this year. I'm really glad to have gotten a big article off to a journal and I can now see the light at the end of the semester.
I just wished LOB Happy Birthday on that great thread you posted yesterday
I cannot believe the ghostly atmosphere at Brentford. No way do these chumps belong in the Premiership.
Glad you were able to submit the article. Time to celebrate with some cherry pie.
Cheers, mate - I can't believe that I missed out on the celebration on Thursday.
I just commented on the birthday thread
Happy Birthday DADDY
You're the father of this site... you must be so proud!
As things stand, The Cherries will go up as Champs. Their capacity is only 12,000. Does that Prem ground requirements or will they have to play elsewhere?
Noticed that United WBA is on CNBC this afternoon
Horse racing and Hockey on NBCSN and NBC
I'll be back
Taking Jon to SATs
wigan just had a goal disallowed. Wolves have taken the lead vs already relegated Evil Lions.
Wishing Jon the best.
Cheers, UWS - I am pleased that we've kept this going for nine years.
As things stand, wolves have replaced Derby in that last playoff spot. nI would love that. Surely Wally would be sacked.
Wigan have been the better team. The mood has transferred to the Brentford players. It must have been the bee spray that Dave Whelan brought.
So Wolves are in pole position to take that last playoff spot. I would love that. Wolves are a biggish club that belongs there.
Evil Cardiff are two up at Forest. Too little , too late.
Cardiff are now 0-2 up at Forest.
The sides are out in the tunnel at the King Power. Leicester players definitely looking the more relaxed. And so they should be - Newcastle have lost 8 of their last 9 matches.
The Hornets take the lead vs Not a Big Club. UWS will not be pleased. Bob will.
I would like the Foxes to defeat the Toon.
GOAL !!! ALEX PRITCHARD GIVES THE BEES THE LEAD.
Crikey - Brentford have scored now through Andy Pritchard. They're now in 6th!
The free kick from 30 yards out deflected off of a Wigan player's head and went into the upper 90.
Still no atmosphere at Griffin Park - wow!
They're off from the King Power stadium
Sclupp wins a corner seconds in. Quite a different atmosphere here.
GOAL !!! ULLOA SCORES 38 SECONDS IN.
Great atmosphere at the King Power, though. A huge roar now for the first corner.
And GOAL! Ulloa nods home Leicester's opener. The dream is still on for them and the nightmare continues for the Magpies!
It was superb in-swinging corner and Ulloa beat Sissokho to the ball to head in at the near post.
The King Power Stadium is bouncing now!
I hope the Foxes thrash the Toon. They would be a win from safety if they defeat the Toon.
I think Nigel uses his rants to motivate his players. They won four in a row just after his last rant.
Leicester now above Villa in 16th on 34th. They and Hull are now only a point behind Newcastle. Magpies in real trouble.
would you say that Rotherham are super heroes for relegating two evil sides in one evening. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Now Leeds don;t have to throw the match
That does help - I loved that result on Tuesday night.
I'm back as Blackburn equalize!
Bugger
OH!!! Just wide by Ayoze after a great run and pass by Jammaat.
Ayoze with a cross-shot that came to nothing.
How is Jon feeling about the SAT - I remember those days well.
Welcome back, UWS. You missed that really early goal from the Foxes.
This near post header from Ulloa is straight to Tim Krul.
Oh - Ulloa beat his man again to the near post but this time Krul gathered.
Missed the goal at the Walkers... I'll still call it that... forget King Power
Under a minute
The Canaries take the lead vs Fulham.
He's nervous
Bugger..just saw that Watford scored against Wednesday on Saturday
Norwich winning too
A new Royal Princess born this morning
Norwich two up
YIKES!!!! THis moves Ipswich out of the playoffs with Wolves in fifth and Brentford in sixth. That really stings!
Wow, just saw breaking news that Rio Ferdidnand's wife died from cancer at the age of 34
Norwich are 2-0 up now; as it stands they'd play Brentford and Boro would play Ipswich next week in the opening playoff round.
Oh - that's tragic news.
Oh - that's tragic news.
I told Bob you wouldn't be pleased. I am confident that Jon will do well.
Oh - Albrighton found Vardy well in the box and he flicked it toward goal. Good stuff from the Foxes.
I am really sad for Rio . Really horrible news.
Blackburn now take the lead!
I think Ipswich are still 5th on GD
We had a teacher pass away last week after fighting lymphoma. He was in his late 30s. I would love to see a cure for cancer ASAP.
Ipswich need a point to be sure but a loss could still be okay
Derby losing is really helping but Wolves are still 5 goals behind Town
I have Wolves fifth and the Bees sixth. As things stand, the payoffs would be Middlesbroguh vs the Bees and Norwich vs Wolves.
Oh - Vardy was nearly in again there but Jonas did well to track back.
Ipswich 78 +18 losing
Brentford 78 +17 winning
Wolves 78 +13 winning
Derby 77 +31 losing
Riviere stops Vardy on the counter.
I'll second that.
Thanks UWS. You are spot on.The Tractor Boys better by some bee spray. One more goal from the Bees would move them ahead of Ipswich on goals scored.
Another goal by Brentford would make them tied on GD but above Town on goals scored
Penalty to Derby... that would put them in the playoffs..... saved!!!!
TWO NIL LEIECESTER
Watford go into the interval on top.
GOAL! Wes Morgan scores Leicester's second again from a set piece!!!
GOAL !!!! BETTER TGHAN RUM AS CAPTAIN MORGAN PUTS THE FOXES TWO UP.
Terrible defending and two or three different Leicester players could have scored.
If that pen went in... they would have jumped about three clubs into 5th
What are Derby playing at? Do they not want to go up. It's all in their hands.
Rum or not , A great finish by Captain Morgan off the free kick from Albrighton . John Carver will not be pleased that both goals were the result of poor defending from set pieces.
I'd like to see the East Anglians to meet in the Final at Wembley but as it stands, they would meet in the first round
However, both goals look like typical goals that UWS scored at LHS.
Collo heads out a foxes corner for another.
Another dangerous corner - Newcastle all at sea at the back. John Carver must change things.
Sissokho heads out this time. The Foxes are on a hat-trick for goals scored from set pieces.
Derby go in at half-time 0-1 down to Reading. Cor!
That EAst Anglian final is a possibility if these results hold, which they probably won't
I'd like to see that, too, UWS. That would be a cracking day out for the East Anglians.
I'm not sure why the suits picked the match at Griffin Park. I would have picked Blackburn vs Ipswich . That seems the pick of the lot.
Albrighton thought that he'd earned another set piece. Not the case this time. Magpies really struggling to get out of their own half.
We're at 0-0 against Rotherham in the last match of what has been a turbulent season for us. Hoping for real change at the club over the summer.
Agreed about the playoffs but a Boro goal would change that but then a Brentford or Blackburn goal would put it back on
A decent chance for the Toon as a long free kick from Tim Krul was headed on by Sissokho and a volley from Riviere found the side netting.,
Correct UWS. I have really been error prone this morning. Still waiting for the morning coffee to kick in,
Ipswich currently occupy sixth spot by a solitary goal . Either or will do. I would prefer the Ipswich goal. We could use a visit from the Bishop to Ewood Park.
Reading holding vs the Rams as they did in the FA Cup would help too.
Several top flight titles can be cliched this weekend. Celtic will clinch the SPL if Aberdeen fail to win at Dundee United this morning. Celtic defeated the other Dundee club 5-0 yesterday. Juve can clinch Serie A with a win at Sampdoria later this morning while Chelsea can clinch the Prem with a win vs Palace tomorrow morning
Bayern have already sewn up yet another Bundesliga title.
Decent approach work but Riviere balls it up at the final moment.
Newcastle chanting for Mike Ashley to eff off out of the club.
Great save by Kapser from a cracker from Ryan Taylor. It had plenty of power and was dipping. Dad will be proud.
Second half starting up again in the Championship matches. What drama will this next 45 minutes bring?
Did you see my post , stating that several titles can be clinched this weekend?
I wonder if Ashley has even traveled for this crucial away match.
I think the suits should be showing the match from Ewood Park, not Peter Griffin Park.
He might have . He has been a regular at matches, I presume.
The Bees go two up vs Wigan and now occupy the last playoff spot, ahead of Ipswich on goals scored.
I did, yeah. It's a crucial weekend and then there are some humdinger matches during the mid-week. Hull v. Arsenal, the Champions League semis on Tuesday and Wednesday and then the Europa semis on Thursday. It will keep us busy here on the LOB.
COME ON DESMOND . GO TO EWOOD PARK.
Now the EA derby is back on for the Final
A goal by Derby would knock them out completely
I agree. The Gunners cannot take the Tigers for granted. They were excellent vs Liverpool. Juve and Bayern will be able to focus on the CL.
Love to see a Wednesday goal on Saturday
VERY VERY VERY NERVY FOR TOWN AT THE MINUTE
Why are Brentford ahead of Ipswich now - both have 78 points and both have +18 GD. What's the tiebreaker there?
The Bees just went two up, so I think they have replaced Ipswich in that last playoff spot.
Brentford are ahead on goals scored. That's the next tiebreaker.
Goals scored
I think Brentford have 60 and Ipswich 51
On this evidence, I do not want to see Brentford any where near the Premiership. They should be in L2.
Ah...I see. Cheers, mate.
Goal at Molineux... two nil but they are too far behind in goals
Nice by the Foxes fans , singing that late 70s disco song by Foxy. Well done, Foxes fans.
I'm off to the bog ahead of half-time here.
It's 52 and 61
I'm sure Bob is hoping for the Evil Lions to be hit for a dozen. That would help the Wolves , who should be snacking on some lion meat.
Oh dear.. three one Blackburn
I will be there at the half. Two minutes of stoppage time.
BUGGER!!!! It looks like curtains for Mick's Tractor Boys.
Wolves concede but not sure it really matters
Too many goals to make up
Fans invade the pitch at Bloomfield Road and sitting in the center circle and won't move
15 minuted delay so far
It's halftime and the Foxes are two up vs a dreadful opponent that is really out of Toon.
Half time at Leicester
Would they call the game off?
Would it matter
Blackpool wouldn't change positions but Huddersfield could jump over Leeds with a win
A single goal for Derby would jump them from 8th to to fifth!!
Of course, that would knock out the Tractor Boys
Kenny Jackett still leading vs his former club.
Bournemouth in the Prem
Brentford could follow!
Bournemoth will be the next new member of the Premier League
What number will they be?
Reading's loss relegated two evil clubs on Tuesday. Here's hoping that they win to help the Tractor Boys make the playoffs.
Still not playing at Blackpool
The Cherries are number one!
Watford still winning... COME ON WEDENSDAY
Huh
Bournemouth will be what number of different teams to play in the Premier league
That's disgrace. Their fate has long since been decided. They should be arrested and banned for life. Don't show up if you're disgruntled.
I think 46 or something like that
I think 46 or something like that
It still sounds like a cricket match at Griffin Park. I've heard noisier libraries.
You are correct
They will be number 46
Still quiet at Griffin. Why?
YOU COULD BE IN THE BLOODY P[LAYOFFS!!! LET'S BE HEARING YOU?
BOOM BOOM! they need that at Griffin Park.
I heard that the Prem requires a minimum capacity of 15,000. The Cherries Goldsands Stadium is 3,000 short of that. I heard that they may ground share with the Saints next season.
I can't believe that we can't finish off an already relegated side at home to give the fans something at the end of a rotten season.
It looks like close to a capacity crowd at Griffin Park. I'm sure the Canaries would handily defeat this lot.
Wolves now 3-1 up now - still in 7th, though. Just outside the playoffs. They'll need five more goals to pip Ipswich.
Rotherham have survived. They clinched survival with a win on Tuesday. I think both sides are going through the motions.
Derby are two down!
Ipswich are closer to the playoffs
Kenny Jackett would like to stick it to his former club, who might rue him leaving them
Jonas taking it upon himself to gee up his side in the second half. John Carver is certainly not doing the job. No changes for the second half, shockingly.
They're off from the King Power Stadium.
It's a circus with this out of Toon side that have hit a lot of sour notes.
I'd love to see a couple of Wigan goals right about now to silence the crowd at Griffin Park....oh, right. Never mind.
Derby fans are leaving!
They need a goal and then another one!
Support them!
Of course, at least get a draw in your last HOME game!
Let's hope the Tractor Boys ride to the playoffs with a win by the Crazy rails of the Reading Railroad.
I would think that if Derby miss out then McLaren would be going to Newcastle
Speaking of Newcastle... they just conceded a pen
Penalty to Leicester - it's gone from bad to worse for Newcastle. Riviere with a ridiculous push at the near post.
Ulloa to take....
PENALTY FOXES AS RIVIERE BARGES INTO WASILEWSKI. IT GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE FOR THE SOUR NOTED SIDE.
Another goal for Wolves... they now need two more
Another worry for Ipswich
Three nil Leicester
Ulloa thumps it home - he's got a brace.
Leicester are nearly safe now.
GOAL !!!ULLOA WITH A BRACE AS THAT GREAT PEN LANDS IN THE UPPER 90.
Fred is singing a Toon. He's singing "You're Going Down."
By my count, Wolves still need three goals. Or a three goal swing with Ipswich.
What is the latest at Bloomfield Road?
Have you guys seen the NBC commercial with the song from The Sound of Music , So Long Farewell, playing and showing all the teams that could drop!
Great commercial
Those will be the games shown... forget the games like United Spurs in 99, City QPR in 12
Hey bob
Are there lists of hotels to stay in VA coming?
I haven't seen it but I'll look out for it.
Still 0-0 at Bloomfield Road.
I have Wolves leading 3-1 . If it's 4-1 they would need four because they would be behind on goals scored.
Ipswich pull one back and now trail 3-2.
Oh - Albrighton should have scored Leicester's fourth!
Just wide by Albrighton after great work by Cambiasso and Schlupp.
Brentford are three up... they look safe in the playoffs
Goal at Molineux... for Millwall.. good news for Town
Norwich score but Fulham score at Carrow Road too
Still want the EA buys to keep away from each other
Another Fulham goal or a Boro goal would fix that
Hearts get a goal back against Rangers
The Bees are now three up vs Wigan. It appears that they will face Middlesborugh in the playoffs.
More goals in the Championship now; Fulham have pulled one back. And Evil Millwall have got another back at Molineux.
What was that tackle from Williamson. He's better than that.
Or another goal from the TRactor Boys, themselves.
Vardy in again...corner.
Great news for Ipswich.... penalty to Reading
Nearly a fourth from the Foxes. Great block by Tim Krul.
Derby missed their penally....Reading don't
THREE NIL
Wow.. a point at home on the last day would have been good enough and then are down THREE NIL
I'm sure Wally in a Brolly would walk the plank as the playoffs are a minimum requirement with what could be the most talented side in the Championship. He has relly under achieved.
Ipswich fans going potty at Ewood with the news from Pride Park
Something must be wrong behind the scenes at Derby for that to happen.
Reading won at Pride PArk in the Cup and are doing the same today. Surely, it's curtains for wally.
Wednesday have scored... Bournemouth would be champs!!!
Great save by Tim Krul, who is preventing a cricket score.
Bournemouth have extended their lead too 3-0
Wednesday ruined stuff for Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago and now they're doing the same to Watford
Pen to Brentford...
Bournemouth are back on top!
