Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

England are a Perfect Ten!

While we were all working (or celebrating Columbus Day) England did something that they've never done - finish a European Championship campaign with a perfect record. That's right - the goals today from Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain plus one o.g. from a generous Lithuanian defender meant that England notched their tenth win out of ten qualifiers. England became only the fifth country in the history of the European Championships to make it to the tournament with a perfect record in qualifying. France 1992, Czech Republic 2000, France 2004, Germany 2012, Spain 2012, and now England 2016. Not bad company to keep. Now, they just have to win the thing next summer, eh Woy?

So, here's the question - is this current England side that brushed aside all comers in their group win France 2016? What say you, gents?

Probably not. I think everyone should allow themselves a bit of happiness about England because it doesn't happen a lot. But two years ago, I remember being pretty confident about the chances of qualifying from probably the easiest group out of the velvet bag.

So I'm taking the opportunity to cheer today because looking at Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Germany, the England team isn't there yet.
