Sunday Action in the Cup!
Morning, chaps - I decided to skip the early match-up between Oxford and Swansea in favor of a bit of extra kip this morning. But there is still plenty of FA Cup action today. Next up is the intriguing fixture between Chelski and Scunthorpe. Then at 11am is the mouthwatering prospect of Spurs v. Leicester, two of the most in-form sides in the Premiership going up against each other. Join me for all of it here on the LOB!

Good morning Bob. The coffee is a brewin'. I skipped the early match too.
Guus Hiddink has fond memories of this competition, winning it when in interim charge of Chelsea in 2009. He has promised to treat the competition seriously again, which makes complete sense considering how adrift last season’s Premier League winners remain of the Champions League places. This represents their best chance of a trophy. The Blues today will be trying to banish bad memories of a home exit to Bradford City last season.
I'm off to make my cuppa - welcome, MUR!
Some interesting news in the British tabloids
https://apple.news/AWVITfGjNPBqSR39YtEr9UA
Yikes!!!! Perhaps we should have woken up early. It sounded like a cracker as Alan Curtis was on the end of an embarrassing giant killing in his first match in charge as the Oxford Shoes stamped the Swans 3-2.
Here are the teams now getting set to kick off:
Chelsea: Begovic; Ivanovic, Zouma, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Ramires, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Pedro; Costa. Subs: Courtois, Terry, Baba Rahman, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Kenedy, Traore.
Scunthorpe: Daniels; Clarke, Wallace, Mirfin, laird; Dawson, Bishop, Ness; Van Veen, Madden. Subs: Anyon, Wiseman, McAllister, Canavan, Adelakun, King, Wooton.
Referee: Craig Pawson.
They're off from SB
I believe that Mark Robbins , the Scunny manager , was part of the MUFC Academy around the time the class of '92 was.
Scunny had two early efforts blocked.
I had a feeling that Swansea might get turned over. But I just couldn't face getting up at 6:45am again today. "The Blond One" as Graham Taylor once called Ronald Koeman, will really be under pressure now.
Yeah - I remember Robbins well, especially from his days playing for Norwich City.
I'll bet that Scunny wish that they had been able to play Chelski about a month or two ago, rather than now that they've recovered some form under Hiddink.
Did you see the link I typed? It involves United.
Hey Boys
I'm still upstairs and on my phone
Robbins was before the Class of 92
He scored the goal that save Fergies job at Forest. He was on the Norwich team that fought for the title in the inaugural premier league season
I agree. Mark Robbins would have wanted to have done another Bradford City.
Good morning mate. We can always count on you to be spot on. Well in.
So the Swans are out of the Cup
Yes. That must be the giant killing of the round.
Any thoughts about yesterday's action? I was pleased that Leeds, United and Arsenal all made it through to the 4th Round. UWS was not impressed by United late, late win, though.
Morning, UWS - how are you, mate?
The commentator just provides the trivia that UWS did earlier - UWS should be working for Fox.
Where are my manners? Congrats mate on a great result. A bizarre situation where both managers were in charge of the opposition last year.
I missed the trivia. was it Mark Robbins or the cup result?
Did you see the highlight of Leeds' goal?
What a corker!!
The Mark Robbins trivia about saving Fergie's job - well done, UWS. I wouldn't have remembered that detail.
Quite a predictable start here. Chelsea having a lot of possession but Scunthorpe bringing everybody back.
I didn't - was that Carayol's or Doukara's goal?
I started it off and UWS corrected me and rightly so.
Useless free kick from Willian, easily cleared out.
Not a classic Willian free kick as it was headed away by the first man. Mark Robbins did his homework in true United fashion.
GOAL! Diego Costa completes a lengthy move to open the scoring for Chelski. It was coming.
1-0!
GOAL !!! COSTA PUTS CHELSEA IN FRONT WITH A GREAT FINISH.
1-0 to the Blues
They are back
They could still finish very high in the league
I think it was an OG
That almost looks like it came off the defender - I think that that was an own goal. Costa didn't celebrate much, in truth.
Chelski will finish in the top half but I can't see them getting a European slot, unless they win the Champions League!
Where you before the match Bob?
They showed the goal
If you have a DVR rewind and see it
The goal was scored 38 seconds and a dozen passes after after the rubbish free kick from Willian. Chelsea kept possession without Scunny getting a touch and Costa diverted in a cross from Ivanovic
Of course Bradford were two down
I think Chelsea could finish higher
Fab has a long range effort tipped over. Rubbish corner from Willian, but Chelsea scored the last time he took a rubbish set piece.
Will do, match, I probably missed it while I was making my brekkies.
I agree with Bob. Top half, but not a European slot. Jose dug too big a hole.
All Chelski pressure now; Scunthorpe will need a Plan B. Parking the bus clearly didn't work.
I completely agree with UWS about the performance at OT.UWS may be interested in the link sent in the comment I typed at 8:55
I don't see them coming from tow down like Bradford City. If Hose B was still here then I may have said yes.
Tried to put link in my phone but it wouldn't open
Pedro has a shot tipped over off a long ball. Route One Chelsea . The corner is cl;eared.
Chelski currently have 23 points from 20 matches. If they won all of their remaining 18 matches, they'd add 54 points for a return of 77 points. That would be enough for a top six finish. But we all know that they won't win all of those matches. I suspect that they'll end up with 55 points or so. Top half but not top six. They haven't solved all of their problems overnight.
Sorry mate. Basically, the tabloids are stating that it is highly likely that Pochettino will replace LVG this summer.
I agree, Bob. That sounds about right.
Lovely interchange between Costa and Oscar there. Should've been two up. Scunthorpe are on a hiding to nothing here.
Interesting; how would you two feel about Pochettino at OT?
Fred is disappointed. He " aw" Lens give his team the lead, but it was all downhill after that. Jordan Pickford, recalled on loan from PNE, had a good match in goal for the Black Cats. Fat Sam says he may be the starter the rest of the season
I personally don't like the idea of United being managed by a succession of European managers for hire. Bring back the Ginger, I say. Moyesey is tanned, rested and ready!
I would love that move. I like his philosophy and think United should have originally appointed him instead of LVG. He was available.
Scunny have a rare corner. Begovic punches away the corner and Chelsea counter after Dawson has a shot blocked.
Oh - great block by Cahill from that shot. Might have been an equalizer.
Carlisle take the lead vs Yeovil in an all L2 cup tie.
Carlisle have taken the lead against Yeovil
Sorry mate, but they're too inexperienced. Other than perhaps Giggsy, there aren't really any British managers ready for the United job. We need someone with experience and Pochettino does sort of play the United way. Far more attack minded than Moyes or LVG.
I checked the early match and UWS will not be pleased that Alan Curtis basically tanked the cup by playing a reserve side at Oxfords United. If the Oxford shoe doesn't fit then don't wear it.
Bishop fouls Fab about thirty yards from goal. The free kick from Willian is cut out for a corner.
Do you guys have the app QuizUp?
Get it so I can take you on
I had an account before and Lat my password so I signed up again
In the category Manchester United, both my accounts are listed
I'm am in the top four in nys and top 14 in country all-time
It's fun
Seven question.
I want to see Bob top in the country for Leeds Utd
Clarke heads out the corner from Willian for another.
Scunny attack off the next Chelsea corner.
I wasn't aware of that app. Thanks for sharing. Surely Bob should be up there for Leeds.
I would take either of those sides in the 4th Round. How about you lot - what's your dream match-up?
Begovic easily catches the Scunny corner. Chelsea fail to clear and Begovic saves a long range effort from Williams.
I would say the winner of Carlisle vs Yeovil, but we made hard work of Yeovil last year
Please get it
I'm Worliyank. There are two of me but my current one is the lighter red pic of Uniteds crest
Is it similar to that other website that we were doing trivia on at your place, UWS? I forget the name but you have a certain amount of time to fill in the slots.
In any case, I'll give it a go.
Did you all see that Bolton needed a late equalizer to avoid a giant killing at non league Eastleigh?
I'm going to look for the Leeds quiz and rub it in to Bob that I'm higher than he is
even if Scunny lose, they can be proud of their performance at a full strength Chelsea side. Mark Robbins should be proud of his lads.
Azpi concedes a corner to Scunny.
Begovic easily gathers the corner.
willian curls a long range effort about a foot over after being set up by Costa.
You probably would do better than I would - you are a Statto, after all.
To be honest, I don't think Gus will be pleased with Chelsea's first half performance.
Ivcanovic concedes a free kick near his corner flag
They definitely have taken the foot off the gas since Oscar's big chance. If they'd gone 2-0 up then, they'd be coasting. But Scunny could ride their luck and get one back. I'd love to see that.
Scunny defenders got back well there to stymie the Chelski break.
great tackle by Zouma on Williamns for a Scunny corner.
A long Scunny corner eludes everyone and is out for a goal kick
Agreed, Bob. Scunny are definitely in this tie and with Robbins from the MUFC Academy , anything is possible.
Into stoppage time
Chelsea are one up at the half against a brave Scunny side.
Peep, peep - there's half-time. Scunny are still in this one, especially if Chelski continue to take the foot off. 1-0.
I am now at the computer
Make sure BOTH of you sign up for Quiz Up... it's fun
I love taking on some people from England and they think they'll beat me. I beat them... they rematch... I beat them again
One bloke rematched me SIX times and lost every one... he quit
Teams out for the second half at the Bridge
We are off
Gus makes a substitution as Ruben Loftus-Cheek has come on . I'm not sure who went off.
The second half is underway. He's on for Oscar the grouch
Let's hope that Chelski continue to be complacent and allow Scunny in.
Oscar came off for Loftus-Cheek (or "The Cheek," as I like to call him). Strange move - maybe a knock?
Bit of a nasty stamp there from The Cheek.
A naughty challenge by Ruben Loftus-Cheek on Bishop, but not check mate
Jose was critical of the Cheek in true Jose fashion and as a result the youngster lost confidence. This will be a chance for him to get afresh start
Funny video of a baldy Richard Chaplow of Doncaster caught on a train with Stoke fans.
He takes of the videos as the fans are singing
He looks like my thumb
He looks like my thumb
He's Richard Chaplow
And he looks like my thumb
Shout out for King Kev, a famous Scunny hero. I miss him in the footer world.
Clarke gets a warning after bringing down Costa
That free kick from Willian went straight through to Daniels. Dangerous!
Daniels, the Scunny keeper, catches the free kick on the bounce in a crowd of players
Bob... you and Kate have any plans for tomorrow?
Also , a shout out for Ray Clemence , who also joined Pool from Scunny and tweeted them wishing them good luck
Before I forget , Happy Birthday mate.
Yeah - we're heading up to our favorite spot in the Finger Lakes - the Bristol Harbour resort - near Lake Canandaigua. My birthday is tomorrow and Kate's birthday is Tuesday!!
I didn't think Scunny had a case for a penalty. Van Veen went down far too easily.
Cheers, mate - it feels good to have made it to 52.
Might have been a pen there for Scunny! Bugger!
Happy Birthday to Kate too.
Stone cold penalty, in my view. And for once the player didn't make a meal of it. That's why Premiership players do the exaggerated hop like 3.14 did yesterday when he was ankle tapped.
Kate says, "Thank you, MUR!"
Interesting that the two players involved in the Chelsea goal were two of the worst players during Jose's final days in charge. what would he make of that?
I didn't know it was Kate's birthday.... what a cute couple
Happy Birthday Kate
You're welcome, Kate. Hope you two have a great time.
To be honest , I don't think D 3.14 was fouled. Our United were bloody lucky and should have been facing a trip to Bramall Lane.
Rangers have defeated Cowdenbeath 5-1 in the Scots Cup.
Costa and Bishop being lectured by the ref. No surprise there
Dawson booked for a foul on Willian. There din't seem much contact, but perhaps it's for cumulative Scunny fouls.
Ramires well wide from long range as this match seems to be petering out.
Scunthorpe are beginning to press more higher
Thanks, mate - that was one of the first things we found out about each other. Sort of felt like it was fated from that point on.
Sarcastic cheers from the visiting Scunny fans as Ivanovic is booked . Now Pedro fouls Bishop as Chelsea players are starting to get frustrated.
This is looking more and more promising for Scunny. Free kick chance now. Come on!
It's a great story, mate. Fantastic!
I think Scunny players and fans feel that the Premier League side have been getting the benefit of the doubt from the ref this half.
Two Nil
Cheeky scores his first Chelsea goal?
GOAL! The Cheek on the end of a brilliant Chelski move and that should be that now.
2-0!
GOAL !!! THE CHEEK PUTS CHELSEA TWO UP. GREAT FINISH
It was a great Chelsea possession. Zouma passed to Fab, who found Wilian down the left . He passed to Azpi , who made a great run and Cheek put away Azpi's pass at the near post.
Anticipation they say... that's the secret
Don't react...anticipate
Are you listening men in red in the Northwest?
That was hard on Scunny, who have made it tough on Chelsea, but the cup can be cruel at times.
Spot on, UWS. That's exactly what Chelsea did as Kenedy is on for Pedro.
Zouma fouls Dawson just outside the Chelsea box.
Yeovil tie it up against Carlisle
OH!!! The closest scunny have come to scoring as a curling free kick from Van Veen had just too much curl and landed in the side netting.
I just did a wiki and that was the Cheek's first Chelsea goal in a competitive match
Great update, UWS. I'm not sure who would want to watch three hours or more of those two teams.
Willian had a chance to play The Cheek in there but his ball left him with too much to do.
Also, the Cheek is the half brother of former footballers, Leon and Carl Cort. Bob will consider him a tad naughty for being born in Lewisham, the borough where the Evil Lions are located.
Madden has a long range chip go about a foot over, but Begovic seemed to have it covered.
Carlisle retake the lead four minutes after being pegged back
Mark Robbins with a double substitution/.
Triple change there for Mark Robbins - a final roll of the dice?
Tony's boss, the Spurs season ticket holder, is not going to the game today. He is going to part 2 of the Spurs Foxes Show on Wednesday.
I told him to yell at Colin for dissing the FA Cup!
He said he has to pay extra for the cup matches... I said I don't care
Managers, media and fans are all dissing the Cup and I HATE IT!!!
That's good news. An hour and a half is plenty for that fixture.
Sorry - it was a double change for Scunthorpe as Williams is replaced by Adelakun and Dawson makes way for King.
Total disrespect for the FA Cup from Tony's boss.
The final roll of the dice for Mark Baskin Robbins as Kyle Wotton is on for Van Veen,.
I agree with Bob. I didn't know that they were playing twice in a matter of three days. The Foxes might as well stay in London.
Perhaps Ranieri feels as if the lads will be falling out of Stringfellows at 3am if they stay in the big city. Lots of distractions.
Did you know that the Toffees and Citeh face each other three out of four Wednesday evenings this month?
I would never question Claudio. He's a wise man, IMHO. I respect him.
Sounds boring. Who scheduled that?
It’s petering out now. Lots of niggly fouls and no real flow. Chelsea will be satisfied with their showing, though, and Scunthorpe can take great heart from a spirited performance.
Costa off for an early rest. Traore on.
Costa hobbles off and is replaced by young Frenchman , Bernard Traore.
Oh - that's better. Clarke rifling one off the crossbar!
Scunny hits the woodwork.. better and more attacking than you know who
Boring??? I thought it was a great match on Wednesday. They play the two legs of the Capital One Cup semis and face each other this Wednesday in the Prem.
I agree , lads. Really sad. Pochetino would change all that as you will witness in the next match, Should be a cracker.
If that shot had gone in or if Willian hadn't blocked one off the line, we would have been set up for a grandstand finish.
It would have been . Scunny should be proud of their performance.
Into stoppage time . Three minutes
Battling performance by the L2 outfit but they were short on quality in the end.
Laird wins a late corner off of Zouma
Another Scunny corner.
Agreed, mate, but they did better than expected .
Oh - that was a close call from the corner. And that's that. Another success for Hiddink. He's turned fortunes around for the Blues, who had just stopped playing for Mou.
2-0 in the end.
It's over and Gus being a true gentleman as he congratulates Mark Baskin Robbins on his team's brave performance.
Game over
It is amazing how many times that teams are scheduled to play each other in the league get drawn against each other in a cup
I remember when Citeh played Stoke in the Cup Final and it was those few years where the Cup Final was played in the penultimate weekend... they were schedule to play each other that weekend in the league
Agreed, Bob. The recent performances show it was Mou, not the players. United are better off without the little psycho.
Next up, the all-premiership battle between Spurs and Leicester at Shite Fart. Expect some squad rotation from both managers.
I remember that. I'm pleased that the Cup Final is played the week after the season ends as it should be.
Yeovil tie it up in added time at Carlisle
Desmond stays for good and forces a replay down in Yeovil
Strange last game of the weekend... Why is Cardiff and Shrewsbury playing at 6 o'clock local time?
A replay between the two L 2 clubs. Does anyone want the winners in the 4th Round.
Is that a police game in the Welsh capital. They used to face other in the welsh cup back in the day
Just as Bob predicted, there is squad rotation by both managers
The team news out of Shite Fart:
Tottenham: Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose; Carroll, Dier; Chadli, Eriksen, Onomah; Son. Subs: Lloris, Davies, Alli, Bentaleb, Lamela, Winks, Kane.
Leicester: Schmeichel; De Laet, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell; Inler, Kanté, King, Dyer; Ulloa, Gray. Subs: Schwarzer, Drinkwater, Morgan, Albrighton, Simpson, Okazaki, Mahrez.
9 replays to be played a week from midweek with two matches to go... also Newport and Blackburn have to play for the first time
Wonder what the record number of replays is?
The marquee tie of the round is about to kick off and they're off.
They are off at the Lane
Good that there isn't much break between the games but again FOX late getting there
I'm not sure, but I think it's more than the number this year
Typical Fox. Poor as Fox is televising the Foxes.
WHL sounds good
Someone must have taken Colin's seat
He sits equal to the side of the penalty area in the top right corner of your screen... to Hugo's right as he looks out
I'm so glad that these mugs only have the Champions League and Cup.
well wide by Damari Gray, the Foxes new signing from the Brummies.
They also have the Bundesliga if you're interested. Just an FYI.
It’s a quiet start, to be fair, but Leicester clearly have the pace to sting on the counter, as is their wont, despite the absence of key players.
That's what I* have observed. I have a feeling that will be a factor , especially during the latter stages of the match
I noticed that the drw for the Fourth Round is tomorrow at 2:15 PM. I'm none too pleased with the timing./
One Nil Spurs
Already more exciting than United
GOAL! Erikson rifles in Spurs' opening goal after some sterling work down the left from Dyer.
GOAL !!!! ERIKSEN GIVES THE SPUDS , THE LEAD . KASPER PUSHED OUT A POWERFUL EFFORT FROM CHADLI, THEN ERIKSEN PUT THE REBOUND PAST FELLOW DANE, KASPER.
Speaking of Fox
Remember, they have the WORLD CUP
Oh, bloody hell - I had repressed that news. A month of having to listen to Lexi and Warren Barton prattle on. (Sigh)
Sigh! I don't know if I can take a month of that
