Sunday in the FA Cup!
Morning, chaps! We're wrapping up the FA Cup 4th Round this morning. First up, is the romantic match-up between lowly Carlisle and Premiership perennials Everton. That's followed at 11 by the evil match-up of MK Dons and Chelski. Tune in from 8:30am to Fox Sports 2 and join me here on the blog for all the cup action.

So, what do we know of Carlisle? They are 13th in League Two but are only five points off the play-offs and have four games on hand on seventh-placed Mansfield because of all of their cup activity.
It’s a bit of a surprise to see the midfielder Gary Dicker in their side, as he was in talks over a transfer to Kilmarnock during the week. Their top scorer, the 12-goal Jabo Ibehre, starts on the bench – surely League Two players aren’t being rested for cup ties now? – while the well travelled Derek Asamoah is an obvious dangerman.
The team news out of Brunton Park this morning:
Carlisle: Gillespie, Atkinson, Raynes, Miller, Ellis, Kennedy, Dicker, Sweeney, Gillesphey, Comley, Asamoah. Subs: Wyke, Hanford, Ibehre, Gilliead, Thompson, Hope, McQueen.
Everton: Robles, Oviedo, Jagielka, Funes Mori, Coleman, McCarthy, Cleverley, Lennon, Barkley, Pienaar, Kone. Subs: Gibson, Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu, Osman, Howard, Galloway.
Referee: Lee Mason
And we're away in this fascinating Cup tie.
A lot of chatter about the continuing practice of Premiership managers fielding weakened sides in the Cup on 606 yesterday, especially with regard to Klopp's Liverpool. Their neighbors have done the same today, resting Lukaku, Howard and Stones.
GOAL! Doesn't seem to matter, though with Lennon skipping away down the right and sticking one right on Kone's toe for the first goal.
A lot of heated banter on the sideline there after Kone's goal between the Carlisle manager, Roberto Martinez and the fourth official. Not sure what the issue was. Seemed like a good goal. Carlisle right up against it now.
Oh - Everton were nearly in there again through Clev, but goalkeeper Gillespie grabbed it well.
Oh - Asamoah was in there and pulled a good save out of Robles. The crowd loved that!
Oviedo tries a pop from range. Never really troubled Gillespie.
GOAL! Aaron Lennon stuffs in #2 and this match is over within ten minutes for all intents and purposes.
Lennon had a lot to do there when the ball was whipped in from the left on this greasy surface but he took it with aplomb with his left peg, a touch that took him past the defender, and then finished with a deflected effort over the keeper.
0-2!
Sad news in from the Guardian this morning that Terry Wogan has died at the age of 77 after a brief battle with cancer. He was a big part of our lives in the UK.
Carlisle are just not in this one now - Everton just passing it about for fun.
Carlisle get a corner and then play it short and swing it out wide of the box. What a waste.
A bit better now from Carlisle, with Asamoah testing Jags.
Carlisle struggling to get a kick of the ball again. They haven't been able to stitch together concerted attacks.
Everton most definitely in control of this match as we move toward half-time. This result and performance might well be a tonic for the Toffees.
The second half is underway from Brunton Park
Good morning mate. How was the first half?
Morning, MUR - the first half was a bit predictable with an understrength Everton side rolling over the L2 team. Carlisle were only in it in flashes.
Nasty one there from Kennedy - yellow card.
A horrible foul by Jason Kennedy on Ross Barkley and deservedly booked.
Sorry. I think McCarthy is down, not Barkley. The one disadvantage of going to the lower league grounds is that you wonder if some of these players go out to injure the Prem players to prove a point
It looks like this one is done and dusted unless Carlisle pull one back soon.
Yeah - I don't expect much from here on out. How was your Saturday night?
It was a long evening.Melanie went to her first Cotillion at the Island , we we experienced the pomp and circumstance of the formal event and we had out father and daughter dance. It was a good evening, but we were all exhausted by the time we arrived home at 1:30 AM
It appears that the stuffing has been knocked out of this Kitty Carlisle side both by the performance and by the strangely subdued atmosphere. My understanding is that the fans can make this a difficult place to play.
OH!!!! A superb counter by the L 2 side. It was a simple through ball and Derek Asamoah blasted high and wide from the edge of the box.
I felt sorry for Elizabeth and Jacquelyn who sat in the audience for three and a half hours waiting for us to appear ,listening to Kenny G acapella . That would be enough to drive anyone crazy.
Nice solo run by Barkley as he skipped easily past three defenders, but took too long to shoot and his shot was blocked.
Jabo Ibehere is on for Brandon Conley and for the Toffees , Leon Osman is on for Steven Pienaar.
Very sweet, mate. Kate has told me all about her Cotillion experiences as a kid in Richmond. Of course, we never had that experience in England. Sounds like a nice night out.
GOAL! What a strike from Barkley!!!
0-3!
GOAL !!! WHAT A SPECTACULAR FINISH BY ROSS BARKLEY WITH A ROCKET IN THE UPPER 90 THAT LEFT THE KEEPER ROOTED TO THE SPOT. THREE UP WITH THIS ONE DONE AND DUSTED.
I can't believe that Carlisle took this long to bring on Jabo, their top scorer. What were they resting him for?
This will be a confidence booster for Everton, who've gotten Kone, Lennon and now Barkley on the scoresheet. They wish they could play L2 sides every weekend.
It was typical Roberto Martinez footie with about thirty passes in the possession , culminating in Leon Osman doing well to keep the ball in play. He played a one two with McCArthy then passed to Barkley , who finished the move off in spectacular fashion
I agree. This is a big outing against a Prem side. Surely, the Toffees are tough enough opposition let alone playing without all their key players
Carlisle have a free kick in a decent position
Did Melanie enjoy the evening? And more importantly, did she meet any nice boys?
A short free kick goes horribly wrong, but the ball breaks kindly and offside is called,. Joel Robles rushed out to gather the ball jut in case he was on
Oh - a near thing for Cleverboy.
She seemed to enjoy the evening. The majority of the time was spent in a holding room where the fathers and daughters waited. Each girl came with an escort. Melanie spent more time chatting with friends than talking to the escort. He was really there for the event more than anything else.
Oh - Kone nearly scored from an impossible angle. Onto the post!
Not far wide. He's trying to show that anything the LUFC Academy can do, the MUFC can do better or at least match
Very close by Kone as the Toffees are looking to increase their lead.
Darren Gibson on for Barkley to increase the MUFC Academy factor by one and decrease the LUFC representation by that amount
WOW!!! A decent attendance for the L 2 side. The fans are to be applauded as 17k attended. Well done to the L 2 side.
Well, I'm certainly glad that you got to sleep in. Sounds exhausting.
Carlisle have been run ragged by the Toffees today. It'll be back to the humble business of struggling to get out of L2 next week.
I guess you are proud of the LUFC representation as Aaron Lennon did not play like Eleanor Rigsby and two out of three former Leeds players / loanees scored.
It was, but I feel well rested. Think of Elizabeth and Jacquelyn listening to Kenny G acapella for three and a half hours.
Always proud of my LUFC alums. I was chuffed that Sam Byram made such an impressive debut for WH last weekend.
I just checked . Carlisle is 13th in L2 , but have three games in hand. If they win those they would probably be in a playoff spot.
He did play well. So Lennon hasn't played like Eleanor Rigsby?
That's not fun for anyone. When my ex-wife Karen and I visited Shanghai in the summer of 2003. Kenny G music was being piped from a PA around all of the tourist areas. Atrocious!
The final roll of the dice for Roberto where it's like for like with Brendan Galloway on for Seamus Coleman
Absolutely.He's Not a Big Performer!
Nope - and not like a Fool on a Hill either. He's had a good day out.
A rare shot on target for CArlisle and a rare corner. Taken short and not a convincing punch by Robles.
LOL!!! Great to hear. You should be pleased.
Celtic take an early lead at Ross County in the Scottish League Cup. I presume it's the semis or is it the final?
Great Carlisle move and Ibehere has a close range effort well blocked. Great move by Gillead and great block by Jags, who was next to Robles.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Darren Gibson side foots a long range effort straight to the keeper.
It's over and The Toffees, predictably , with a comfortable win at Carlisle United as they win 0-3.
Well, that's that. Carlisle were never in it. Keith Curle never really gave them a chance, really, by resting Jabo from the start.
0-3.
Next up - the evil match-up between the Fake Dons and Chelski. Who on earth are we going to root for in this one?
Interesting - Guus Hiddink is fielding a fairly strong Chelski side at Stadium MK today:
MK Dons: Martin; Spence, McFadzean, Walsh, Lewington (c); Potter, Forster-Caskey; Carruthers, Hall, Murphy; Bowditch
Subs: Cropper, Hodson, Kay, Williams, Powell, Church, Maynard
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Terry (c), Cahill, Rahman; Matic, Fabregas; Oscar, Loftus-Cheek, Hazard; Costa
Subs: Begovic, Zouma, Mikel, Traore, Pedro, Willian, Azpilicueta
Perhaps Guus is a fan of the Cup?
Fox has really dragged out the B-team for Sunday morning. Warren Barton is anchoring the coverage alongside Super Crock Stu Holden and some bloke named Ian Joy.
Teams in the tunnel now. Diego Costa looks up for it. He's scored five goals in six matches since Hiddink took over.
Jon Champion and Danny Higginbottem on the mic this afternoon. And we're underway.
This is an incredible stadium for a side that was in L1 last season. Totally fake environment.
Oh - great move by Chelski ends up with Diego Costa in loads of space. He hits the keeper Martin with his effort. Good save!
Here come Chelski again. Good movement from them so far. They're a class above MK Dons, of course.
Back for this late evil match and see that Oscar shoots wide.
Now it's Oscar in on goal but he fluffed his lines. Bad miss. Chelski should be 2-0 up already.
Welcome back, mate. Any thoughts about Terry Wogan's death yesterday at age 77? Did you enjoy him as a kid?
Nice solo run by Rob Hall and hes fouled by JT just outside the D. I'm not sure why JT is complaining. He knew what he did
Better from the Championship side now.
The short free kick is then shot into the wall by Carruthers then nothing comes of the move.
With all the pandemonium yesterday I had not heard about it. I am saddened by the news . I do remember him quite well and listened to him. In terms of entertainment , I would rate him about 7 out of 10.
I read you comments about the crew at the studio. Ian Joy is a former Scottish journeyman player, who played in obscure countries and was recruited from BEIN. He seems like a wanker.
Raman Soup wins a corner,. A shot from Ivanovic is blocked from the corner then another Serb, Matic blasts into Row P.
More pressure from Chelski now. Good save from Martin from a shot by Ivanovic. Then Matic fired over. A goal is coming, you can feel it.
Will Chelsea be able to do what United failed to do here in the League Cup?
Oh - Chelski players are lining up for target practice now. Oscar again blows one wide.
Chelsea were over elaborate in the box and passed the ball around several times before Oscar tried to pass the ball into the net and shot wide.
I remember hearing Terry Wogan's voice in the kitchen every morning as my mum liked to listen to his BBC Radio 2 show while she was making our brekkies.
A little naughty by Rob Hall on Hazard, which it will be if he continues those types of challenges.
GOAL! Oscar comes good on the third effort. That was coming.
GOAL !!!! OSCAR GIVES CHELSEA THE LEAD WITH AN EASY TAP IN AS HE SLID IN.
It all came from a mistake at the back where the full back was trying to be too cute. Gave the ball away to Costa who stroked it across for his compatriot to stretch to score.
0-1!
The draw is on after this match, apparently. Will you stick around to find out who United get?
I'd prefer to get a big match-up at this point. We could use the big pay day. Away to a big Premiership side would be ideal.
Yes it sure was as Chelsea had a numerous chances and finally scored. A horrible school boy error as the Fake Dons right back was caught in possession of a Fake Dons throw. Costa picked his pocket then passed to a wide open Oscar ,who slid on a wet pitch to tap in.
I was thinking of Shakespeare plays and a home match against the Shrews so we can tame them and get an easy passage into the quarters
According to UWS, the draw is at 115 PM Eastern
That would be a nice one for you - good romantic cup tie.
GOAL! Well, I never! The MK Dons are back in business!
1-1!
GOAL !!!! THE FAKE DONS TIE IT UP AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY. I DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING
One of the jammier goals you'll ever see. A shot from distance that took a horrible deflection and looped up high over Courtois' head and into the goal. Game on!
I didn't see that coming as well. This one looked like the earlier one in terms of pattern. I expected Chelski to go on to win easily.
That shot from Potter took a wicked deflection off of Matic. The Fake Dons had enjoyed a spell of possession down the left and after several crosses were headed away, Lewington showed he wanted the ball more than Fab and passed to Carruthers, who passed to Potter.
Oh - big chance by Hazard! Saved by the keeper Martin onto the post. Great stuff!
OH!!! Hazard blew a chance to score his first of the season as the Fake Dons were caught out by a long ball. Hazard beat the offside trap and was one on one with the keeper. His shot ca offf the post then off of Martin then off the post and back to Martin.
Incredibly, Hazard - who was Young Player of the Season last year, hasn't scored once for Chelski this season.
THe Fake Dons were caught out again as Top Raman got free down the left and played a nice ball into the box, but both Oscar and Costa slid to tap it in, both missed it, and both saw the funny side of it.
It's as if MK are playing without defenders today - Chelski are cutting through them like a hot knife through butter.
Hazard is pulled back on the right flank. Nothing comes of the free kick
Great analogy, mate.
Darren Potter did what Hazard to do, which was score his first goal of the season. Also, the Fake Dons average less than a goal a game, so they have exceeded that average
It's been quite an entertaining first half.
John Terry picks up his requisite yellow card for a crunching tackle.
JT is booked by John Moss for a rash challenge on Carruthers. He had been warned earlier.
A curling free kick is easily caught by Courtois.
GOAL! Oscar again. Nice goal. Chelski back in front.
Hey Boys
Just back from walkies as Oscar puts Chelsea in the lead
They could have 10 already
Lovely through ball from Loftus-Cheek to Oscar who looked up and picked his spot in the far corner well.
1-2!
GOAL !!!OSCAR AT THE DOUBLE AS HE SCORES WITH A LOVELY FINISH . IVANOVIC FOUND THE CHEEK , WHO PLAYED A LOVELY THROUGH BALL TO OSCAR, WHO SCORED WITH A SHOT IN THE CORNER FROM A REALLY NARROW ANGLE.
Morning, UWS - how goes the walkies?
On my phone again not the desktop
Good morning UWS. Great to have you on board for this entertaining match
Knackered this morning
Went to a late movie with a couple friends and then ate at a diner
Didn't get home til 2am
It's tough to blog on the phone. I've tried in the past.
I got home around 130 AM . I feel your pain.
Saw the Oscar nominated Live Shorts
I saw them last year too.
This year most were good but very depressing
I guess Oscar is making the opposing manager feel like a grouch. Sound about right?
This match could go down for an Oscar nominating performance.
I hope the German one wins
Girl actress was really good
Again, three out of the five were really dark
Really bad David
Really bad
Oscar, looking for a hat-trick as he shoots straight at Martin off some nice one touch Chelsea passing.
Sorry mate. I guess I'm not getting nominated.
Hazard fouled from behind. it's taken short and Chelsea keep possession
What movie did you see?
I don't think I've ever seen any Oscar shorts. I'm pulling for Spotlight on Oscar night - a really quality film about an important topic.
A rare Fake Dons attack and a long range effort from Caskey was not too far over.
Anybody else excited about the Iowa Caucuses tomorrow?
I'll be glued to it all day long.
sounds like an interesting film. I rarely go tot eh movies, but sounds like possible viewing.
I'm interested to see what transpires. Hopefully , we'll have a better idea as to who will win the primaries.
GOAL! Oscar bags his hat-trick!
GOAL !!! A HAT -TRICK FOR OSCAR AS CHELSEA GO 1-3 UP
I saw Spotlight
It was good
As for the shorts, this is the second year in a row I've seen them
Interesting viewing
Keeping with the Oscar theme
Hat-trick for him
More defensive woes - Oscar was allowed to jink inside on his favored right foot and drift into a good shooting spot and then curl one in. Too easy.
1-3!
This one is probably the best of the lot as Oscar scored a goal similar to what Hazard did last season. He got a pass from Fab down the left , cut inside a couple of defenders then shot from the D and it went into the upper 90
Into two minutes of stoppage time as our hat-trick hero has put in an Oscar nominated performance.
In the Scottish League Cup Semi
Celtic took the lead inside 2 min but gave away a pen and a red card
They are now losing 3-1 to Ross County inside ten to go
Hibs waiting
I think this one is pretty much done and dusted.
Chelsea are 1-3 up at the half and really should be further ahead
Chelsea are back
Top four???
Last minute at Hampden still 3-1
Celtic misses a second half pen
Fox pushing the Bundesliga coverage
They showed a match on regular Fox yesterday during my walk
WHY NOT THE FA CUP???
Good question. FOX really suck.
I think Chelsea would have to win the rest of their matches and hope for one of the top four to slip up. I'm predicting sixth place.
Ross County win 3-1
Some bloke on the BBC says bad for selling the game. No one outside Scotland will want to watch Hibs v Ross County
Fox, of course, aren't showing the draw
United visit the Bridge next weekend?
Typical bad timing from United
The second half is underway from Milton Keynes.
I think United are at the Bridge on Super Bowl Sun day as they have been the past few seasons. A coincidence?
Agreed about the Scots League Cup Final. They'll do well to have an attendance of 5,000 unless the Hi Bees bring more supporters.
The Nevs has lost again in Valencia today
He was roundly booed even after making the Cup semi midweek...got drawn against Barca
Typically sucky Fox, going through the motions with the FA Cup coverage. I'm guessing the FA , ITV or the Beeb have a link.
How has the Neviller been doing in Spain? Better than Moyes?
I'm just going to listen to 5Live
I saw your comments on Terry Wogan
Very sad
He was a great friend of Johnny Hates Jazz. They were on his TV show often. I was there for one of them. He also had them on few years back on his radio show for their new album
I heard he was a great bloke . I listened to him off and on. Very sad news indeed.
I agree. I was never a huge Terry Wogan fan but he was just a comforting presence.
Neville hasn't won a league game yet!!
Penalty for the Blues
Penalty to Chelski! Hazard chopped down.
PENALTY TO CHELSEA AS POTTER IS CALLED FOR A FOUL ON HAZARD. IT SEEMED SOFT TO ME.
Hazard gets fouled and is going to take it
First goal of the season!!!
Hazard has grabbed the ball and intends to take it. He needs this for his confidence.
And he scores! 1-4 Chelski!
I thought that the pen was a bit soft. He was already going down under the lightest of pushes.
GOAL !!!! HAZARD WITH HIS FIRST OF THE SEASON AS HE WRONG FOOTS MARTIN WITH A WELL PLACED PENALTY AS CHELSEA LEAD 1-4. TIME FOR THE FIFTH ROUND DRAW.
Sad, but not surprising as I thought the Neviller would be out of his depth. He needs to start in the lower leagues and work his way up.
A memory of mine of Wogan was his show befit the European Cup Final at Heysel
All set to build up the match and then the tragedy happened
I like him
Again, he did a lot for JHJ
Bertrand Traore is on for Costa
A huge miss indeed. Glad he was able to help out JHJ . I missed his show during the Heysel disaster because I had moved back to the U.S. by then
So, from the sixteen ties, 10 away teams won, 4 home teams won and 2 went to a replay
So much for home field advantage
It's sunny, breezy, and 77 here. Highs are supposed to be in the low to mid 80s the next three days. Similar to ENY and WNY?
It's been warm here the past two days, with a big thaw. Almost all the snow is gone from the backyard.
Im' surprised that there are only two replays and only one giant killing
No love for MK as Murphy gets upended by Traore in the area.
GOAL! Instead, Traore goes down the pitch and scores Chelski's fifth.
Courtois does well to tip over a long range effort from Rob Hall. The corner is taken short and Murphy goes down in similar fashion to Hazard off a challenge from Bertrand Traore, but no penalty
GOAL !!!! BERTRAND TRAORE WITH HIS FIRST EVER CHELSEA GOAL SECONDS LATER AS THE ROUT IS ON. CHELSEA ARE 1-5 UP.
Chelsea make it FIVE
Of the 18 teams in the hat
12 from the Prem
4 from the Champ
2 from L1
A Brazi swap as Willian is on for Oscar and the final change as Pedro is on for Hazard.
The goal came 28 seconds after the penalty shout . The Fake Dons were caught out by a long ball down the left to Hazard. He passed to Traore, who slotted it in. A goal and an assist for Hazard
So Chelsea doing slightly better than United did last season at the Don
Those stats confirm that there have been few giant killings this season. A very predictable competition bar a few exceptions
Tommy Williams, a Welsh international, is on for Josh Murphy.
This stadium would have hosted WC games?
It's nice but really??
Yes. Just a tad better than United
This one's over, lads, so I'm off to do some Sunday chores. I should be back for the draw at 1:15.
I doubt it. I don't think the capacity is large enough to meet the criteria. The best hope is for some under 21 matches.
Cheers mate. I'm doing mine after the Cup draw.
The MK manager is the third longest serving manger in England. He's been here for 6 years
Only trails the Exeter City manager and of course Arsene
They just said it was going to host matches
Bob says that there is very little snow remaining in WNY. How about ENY?
It's a nice looking stadium, but that is a real surprise.
