It's the Typical Sunday Premier League Double Header
It's the typical Sunday double header starting with the Toffees vs the Swans from Goodison Park . The struggling Swans are playing their first match with their new manager. This is followed by what is Arsenal vs Chelsea, normally a match between two top teams, but Chelsea are struggling this year despite recent improvement under Guus Hiddinck. It will be interesting to see what transpires.

The match just kicked off about a minute ago
Morning, David - thanks for getting us going. Here are the teams on display at Goodison:
Everton: Howard, Oviedo, Stones, Funes Mori, Baines, Barry, Besic, Deulofeu, Barkley, Mirallas, Lukaku. Subs: Robles, Kone, Lennon, Cleverley, Osman, Pienaar, Coleman.
Swansea: Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Cork, Britton, Ki, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Ayew. Subs: Amat, Emnes, Nordfeldt, Eder, Montero, Naughton, Barrow.
Referee: Anthony Taylor
Good morning Bob. Glad to help. It's great to enjoy the pleasure of your company .
OH!!! Off the post from Besic then the ball goes out for a goal kick. Nice solo run, but he was given the freedom of Goodison
besic goes off injured. That's a huge loss for the Toffees. He had a shot go off the post early on. Clever Boy replaces him
Ross Barkley is down under a high challenge from Leon Britton . Play resumes.
Deulofeu with a long range effort straight to Flappy.
Back with my cuppa and bagel. Great to join you, too. I'll be interested to see how Guidolin lines Swansea up.
PENALTY SWANS . SOME COMICAL DEFENDING FROM THE TOFFEES AS TIMMY TRIPS JORDAN AYEW OFF A POOR BACK PASS.
Penalty to Swansea!
And scored!
0-1 Swans - great start for the italian.
GOAL !!!! SIGGY SCORES WITH A PENALTY IN THE UPPER 90, SENDING TIMMY THE WRONG WAY. THEIR FIRST AWAY GOAL IN A MONTH
Now the Toffees have a free kick about 30 yards out
Into the wall by Baines and back to Baines as Stones is offside.
Welcome back, mate. Did you see how the penalty was won? John Stones was in the right back position and his back pass was short by a Stones throw. Also, Timmy mistimed the tackle and tripped Jordan Ayew.
A long range effort from Ayew is well over and finds Row M
A catalogue of errors from Stones and Timmy. But Swansea have been bright and lively and deserve their lead, IMHO.
GOAL! Gareth Barry flicks home a corner at the near post to level it!
1-1!
Deulofeu has a shot come off of Neil Taylor for a corner off a cross from Baines.
GOAL !!!! 1-1 BARRY DIVERTS IN A NEAR POST CORNER FROM BAINES AT THE NEAR POST.
Now Mirallis is down injured. If he has to be replaced then that leaves Roberto with only substitution remaining.
Now Kevin Mirallas has gone down - Martinez has a real injury crisis here with Besic already off. Looks like Stephen Pienaar to come on.
Pienaar is on for Mirallis. Roberto can only make one more substitution the remainder of the match
The Chunk heads just wide at the near post off a cross from Deulofeu. He wanted a corner, but didn't get his way
How was Bbrekkies? Hopefully you are alert and match fit.
Feeling great, mate - nice brekkies. I can't wait for the late one. This is merely the appetizer.
The replay shows that Barry won't be getting his first goal in two years. it was a Jack Cork OG.
Agreed. I was thinking opening act, but appetizer is a great description as well.
Routledge gas a shot deflected for a corner off a free kick
I reckon Barry’s goal may be re-awarded to Jack Cork. Not sure the flick was going in before it glanced off the Swansea midfielder’s calf.
Timmy catches the corner and that is followed by what sounds like sarcastic applause from the Gladys Street End
GOAL! Jordan Ayew strike again!
GOAL !!! AYEW WITH HIS AND SWANSEA'S SECOND AS THE SWANS GO 1-2 UP
Again Stones and Timmy were involved. Stones' deflection made the save impossible for Timmy. Good strike from Ayew, though.
1-2!
Not a good start from Timmy, though. I could imagine the new gaffer bringing in a quality keeper to put some pressure on him.
The Chunk is just wide from long range
Will Everton miss Stephen Naismith as a foil for The Chunk?
Kate thinks that the Swansea boys look like sheep from a distance, with their white shirts and black socks.
Timmy was beaten at the near post, but I think it would be harsh to blame him because the shot took a really wicked deflection off of John Stones. Also, the Toffees wanted hand ball when Ashley Williams won a tackle in midfield . He found Ki, who found Neil Taylor who passed for the assist
That could very well be. I think they're supposed to look like Swans , but that is an apt description as well.
did you see the schedule for the next few days. The Monday nighter is Burnley vs Derby , which is 4th vs 5th. ON Tuesday is the Bees vs Leeds and Forest vs JFH's lads. Also, the second leg of the two Capital One Cup semis. with one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.
Angel Rangel is late with a challenge on Clever Boy and receives the first booking of the match
That makes sense - I had never put that one together either. Very insightful, mate.
The free kick intended for Funes-Mori is just too high
It's a busy schedule for sure. Unfortunately, I've got a busier than usual schedule at work this week, so I'm unlikely to be able to follow much of it.
But I may do some updates on the implications for the PPP, particularly with the Capital One Cup.
Cheers mate.Kate makes a good point too.
Three minutes of stoppage time
Stones does better this time.
A tough one for Leeds at Peter Griffin Park?
Coming to the end of what has been an entertaining half of football.
Definitely so, but we picked a useful win against Bristol City yesterday, so we could afford a draw or loss.
Leeds are six points better than their form from last season. Still - not good enough to really mount a playoff challenge.
Agreed. It will probably be a mid table finish for the Whites.
Half-time - It's a good start for the new Italian boss at Swansea. They've done a real Italian Job on Everton so far. It has to get better for the Toffees in the second half.
The Swans are 1-2 up at the half amidst a chorus of boos from the home fans . A great start from Francesco Guidolin in his first match in charge of the Swans.
Back on at Goodison - Everton about to get us going in the second half. They'll have to do better. No changes as yet.
Back from the bog and a minute into the second half.
Everton trying to bring the match to the Swans.
Routledge straight at Timmy off a run and pass from Ki
OH!!! A missed sitter from Barkley as he blasts over from three yards as he had a wide open goal. His blushes were spared as the offside flag was raised.
Barkley makes one of those miss-of-the-season contenders, spooning Baines’ cross over the bar from virtually under it – but Baines was offside, so his blushes are spared.
Flappy picks up a yellow for time wasting. A bit early for that, mate.
Flappy booked for time wasting. A little early for that?
Two extremely similar comments. Great minds think alike.
Nice cross from Delafeu but no one could get on to it. Pienaar whiffed it wide in the end.
Pienaar gets in on the act as he blasts over a close range effort off a nice pass from Delofeu. His was from a more narrow angle than Barkley's
We're on the same wavelength, mate.
A win for Swansea would be a precious one, bringing them four points clear of the drop zone. Either way, Everton will be languishing in mid-table obscurity.
A tricky eun and nice cross from Deulofeu, but nobody was there to connect
Correct, mate. Swansea would be four points clear and move three places up the table. The Canaries would be only two points clear.
Williams clears out another good ball in from Delafeu from the corner. Williams will have to be immense to counter this onslaught.
Siggy straight at Timmy off a nice solo run
Nice back and forth to the match now.
Guidolin appears to be a nuts and bolts track-suited, training pitch kind of manager.
Lukaku tries a curler with his left peg but it's well wide of the mark.
The Chunk curls a long range effort wide. He's been feeding off of scraps today, not chunks.
He's a 60 year old pragmatic Italian. An odd time in his career to make a move so far from home. I guess he has grown children and needs time away from the missus, but still wanting to coach at the highest level.
It's our old LHS buddy Gary Chirgwin's 52nd birthday today.
Siggy booked for a naughty challenge on Clever Boy that was none too clever.
Last change for Roberto - a recovered Seamus Coleman on for Oviedo. Looks defensive but Coleman can overlap and ping balls in.
The final roll of the dice for Roberto as Seamus Coleman is on for Bryan Oviedo. I hope that move cuts the mustard
Thanks for the update . To be honest, he's not one of my FB friends. I really didn't know him at Lakenheath.
I guess he was more my year than anything else. Another guy I played soccer with.
Leon Britton cuts out a pass from Barkley for a corner.
Was he on the LHS soccer team? I don't remember him.
Big shout for a pen - referee thought not.
Yeah - just for one year when I was a freshman, then he ran track. He had a British mum.
I think the Swans got away with one. That should have been hand ball on Neil Taylor and a penalty for the Toffees.
Rather interesting. I remember the name, but otherwise don't really recall him other than what I see on FB.
Bloody hell - Chunk! Delafeu laid it on a plate for him again. Nothing on it.
another good Deulofeu cross that is missed. The Chunk should have done that at the far post instead of taking a whiff.
Jordi Amat on for Routledge. A defensive move as the Swans defend their lead with just under a quarter of an hour remaining
Guidolin has seen enough. Rutledge being pulled in favor a more defensive option, Amat.
The Swans have weathered this well - just over ten minutes to gut it out.
A bit flappy from Flappy there but his punch was effective in clearing the lines.
My United plays away to Derby County on Friday in the Cup.
Nice one. No wonder why he earned that name.
Leon Britton is called for a foul on Barkley.
This half hasn't been riveting. I'm looking forward to a short nap on the magical couch in a few minutes.
There will be enough for a power nap ahead of what is hopefully a great match.
The Chunk makes a decent save from a header from the Chunk off a good cross from Baines.
Oh - big miss from Seamus Coleman there after a super ball through from Stones.
Guidolin is throwing Eder on to do some running. Goalscorer Ayew comes off to polite applause.
OH!!!! Coleman went past Ashley Williams off a nice pass from John Stones then shot just wide with just Flappy to beat
The Swans are aiming for their first ever league win vs the Toffees.
Like for like in the final roll of the dice for Guidolin as Naughton is on for Angel Rangel. Four minutes of stoppage time./
We're into four minutes of stoppage time - another time wasting substitution that would have UWS gnashing his teeth if he were watching.
Leon Britton called for a foul on Clever Boy
Last chance saloon for Roberto and the Toffees.
Hey Boys
Just back from a chilly walkies
Bloody time wasting is right
What are your thoughts about my clock talk yesterday
Rubbish ball in from Baines but it's cleared for a corner. This has to be it.
A late corner for the Toffees
Oh - Coleman with another huge miss and that's it. Boos ring out while Guidolin celebrates his first win for the Swans. Good start for him but Roberto may be coming to the end of his reign at Goodison.
I'm off for a quick power nap.
What a miss with the last kick of the game!!
Was last chance caused by the sub coming on and adding more time?
The corner is headed on and Coleman blasts over from two yards out as the Swans hold on for a much needed 1-2 win. Their first ever league win vs the Toffees./
On my phone again cuz I want to sit in a comfy chair
Morning, UWS - I'm fine with the system as it is. I know that there are some instances in which the vagueness with the ref's watch leads to controversial late goals but I'm fine with that. It adds to the excitement. I always hated in the early days of the MLS that there was a count-down with the stadium clock.
Oh dear - it's Graeme Le Socks on the mic and Mark Clattenburg with the whistle for this one. Gooner will not be pleased.
Do you have any comments on my clock conversation? I was so adamant that I liked not knowing exactly how much time was left and would have arguements with American friends but the time wasting is just out of control and the added time is so inconsistent. If the clock stopped, the writhing in the ground would stop. Stupid late substitutions would stop.
I'm talking about stopping the clock for every stop of play but for injuries , subbing and goals
I've really changed my mind on this
Thoughts?
I know what you mean about the clock on the board. Didn't like playing in college knowing that was no changes of scoring when the ball was no where near goal but these damn managers and players are using it as a weapon
Teams in the tunnel now:
Arsenal: Cech; Bellerín, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Flamini, Ramsey; Campbell, Özil, Walcott; Giroud. Subs: Ospina, Chambers, Gibbs, Gabriel, Elneny, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sánchez.
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta; Mikel, Matic; Willian, Fàbregas, Oscar; Costa. Subs: Begovic, Cahill, Baba Rahman, Loftus-Cheek, Traore, Hazard, Rémy.
Referee: Mr Clattenburg.
Teams coming out with Theo leads them out
Didn't know he we a captain ever
5Live says cuz it's 10 yrs after joint the club
Oh - I thought you were proposing keeping the clock public like in the States. Don't like that. I agree with you. The clock should stop for all stoppages and the ref should add time for time wasting. But the time should still be up to the ref and a mystery to the crowd.
Joining the club 10 yrs this week
The Gunners vs Chelsea is about to kickoff. A win for the Gunners puts them back on top ahead of Chelsea, who are rivals, but are struggling this season
Theo has never had the impact that he should have. A useful servant but never a superstar. I doubt whether he's ever scored more than 15 goals in a season. Lots of injuries too.
Lots of needle between these two sides. We're set to go now.
I think Theo is an odd choice as captain of the Gunners. The match is underway
I wonder how Gooners feel about Theo being skipper.
Oh - Campbell whiffs on an early chance. Shame. That would have set the game alight.
I am sure Arsene is glad to see the back of Jose who sent United a six page essay asking them to make him their next manager. Poor in my opinion. I wonder if UWS agrees.
Oscar tests Cech at his near post. Nothing doing. Early corner for Chelski.
Meat and drink for Cech who is riding Twilight hard for Keeper of the Year.
Oscar has a short deflect into the side netting for a corner that is caught by Cech agianst his old mates
Azpi down under a challenge from Flamini. It didn't look that bad.
They are running neck and neck for that honor.
Fab found his way to the by-line and pulled back a teasing ball. Cleared out.
An unusual situation where Foxes fans will be rooting for Chelsea today
True - but the Foxes have a really difficult sequence coming up. I think that's the beginning of their fall from grace.
Hard to say. They will have next weekend off to rest and give a chance for knocks to heal. We all thought that would have happened by now, including Yours Truly.
Oh - nice interplay there between Campbell and Giroud leading to Flamini alone in the area. Shame it fell to him.
First bad challenge of the match - Oscar goes into the book amid howls of protest from the Gooners.
Oscar the grouch is booked for foul on Campbell's Soup
A poor free kick is headed away by Costa, the first man
Nice dive by Campbell
What an actor
Campbell's not quite the answer for Arsenal; they're really missing Welly.
He should get the Oscar!
I actually believe that Campbell has performed better for the Gunners than Welly.
Jose's agent has denied the letter
If I were him, I would say... United don't want me
I was upset waking up with no news about LVG!!
Willian straight at Cech after ping pong in the Gunner's box.
Two bites at the cherry for Willian. Straight at Cech.
Two chances for Willy
Saved by Cech
Probably a good idea. I still think LVG will be around till the end of the season
Mert slides in on Costa and gets a straight red!
Arsenal down to ten men!! Wow!
End to end stuff
RED CARD for Merta
Wa he last man?
Yes
Was he touched?
I think that's harsh. It should have been yellow as I think Koz could have gotten there.
willian goes on a solo run and plays through Costa .Merte tackles Costa from behind and is sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity. It seemed the correct decision based on the rules.
Offside from free kick
Willian with the free kick and Cech punches out. JT is scuffed up in the process. This one is going to blow up at a certain point.
Cech punches away the free kick and is fouled by JT
Not sure there was touch
I'm not sure either.
It doesn't look like Kos would have been back in time to prevent Costa from shooting on goal
So that's a hat-trick of red cards for the Gunners vs Chelsea this season
Giroud is none too pleased as he's replaced by Peter Gabriel. That change is a result of the sending off
Kate's man is really annoyed about coming off
He was a doubt for the game
Derisive cheers as Clattenberg gives a foul for the Arse. And Giroud is being sacrificed for Gabriel. Disgraceful decision from Arsene.
I'd be annoyed too, as Arsene is essentially conceding a win there. He's going to play for a draw from this point on.
GOAL! Diego Costa nips in to score! Arsenal are in real trouble now.
GOAL !!! COSTA VOLLEYS CHELSEA INTO THE LEAD.
Is that giving up trying to win?
Goal
Chelsea take the lead
Now who's going to score the goal needed Arsene
A nice cross from Ivanovic after he whiffed at a pass from the left.
Sloppy stuff from Arsenal, as Ivanovic was allowed to whip in a cross unchallenged and Costa beat his man to the ball. Easy.
0-1
Roon , Martial.... Did you see what happens when you attack the ball as it comes into the box
So now Arsenal are in need of a goal and Wenger has taken his main striker off.
agreed. Now the Gunners need a goal and have taken off their top scorer.
Arsenal have a corner now as Ivanovic clears out.
Terrible corner that hits the first man.
Ivanovic heads out a cross from Bellerin for a corner. Obi Wan heads away the corner.
Monreal with another rubbish cross. Get under the ball!!
Chelsea have already had more shots on goal than United did the entire match yesterday.
Costa is caught for a deliberate handball - Gooners baying for a yellow card. They'd love to see the cheating Brazilian sent off.
Blues playing it about for fun now.
I would too.
I guess Alexis could be an emergency striker while Ox could be an attacking threat as well.
The long lost Alexis warming up. What's the point of taking Giroud off and then sticking Alexis on?
I don't want Chelsea to go on any type of run
Still haven't won back to back games
It doesn't look like he made contact, but the fact that he went for the ball and didn't make contact still rules it foul under the current rules.
Arsene didn't expect Chelsea to score the next possession after the substitution so that wrecked his plans. I agree, UWS. I'd love to see them finish around 14th place
Great block by Gabriel as Fab wound up a shot.
Nice block from Peter Gabriel off a shot from Fab after a fab solo run
I'd love that, too. I'm still predicting mid-table. It's clear that some players like Costa had stopped playing for Jose and are now trying to pick up their form.
Nacho wins a corner off of Ivanovic
Monreal just doesn't produce the service needed out wide left. Another chance there wasted.
The corner was taken short and OH!!! Inches wide by Theo, but he was offside.
Oh - nice football there but Theo was offside when the ball was slid in. Shot was wide anyway.
Fans in Leicester must be going potty
What happened to UWS? Is he quizzing up?
Welcome back. Foxes fans must be delighted.
Peter Gabriel called for a foul on Costa. I wonder if this is a reaction to the incident back in September.
